2022 HYUNDAI VELOSTER N Complaints and Recall Information

The 2022 HYUNDAI VELOSTER N has 4 complaints and 4 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues with power steering failure combined with lane keeping assistance malfunctions, as well as engine misfires affecting acceleration. Complaints describe these problems causing safety hazards including difficult vehicle maneuvering and loss of drive power.

Common Issues

  • Power steering failure. Steering becomes extremely heavy at low speeds or during operation, requiring substantial effort to control the vehicle. Alerts display on the cluster indicating power steering has failed.
  • Lane Keeping Assistance malfunction. LKA and power steering systems fail simultaneously, causing loss of power steering. The failure can occur during any vehicle operation including when parked and persists until power is restored after disconnecting the battery or shutting off for at least 15 minutes.
  • Intermittent system resets. Restarting the vehicle temporarily resolves power steering and LKA failures, though the issues can return unpredictably.
  • Injector misfires. Three separate fuel injectors misfire, reducing acceleration power and causing the engine malfunction indicator to illuminate. This problem creates a safety hazard during driving and is reported as common across 2022 Hyundai models.

The vehicle has 4 recalls addressing various systems including the fuel delivery, transmission, and engine controls. These recalls involve updates to software and replacement of defective components to address risks of power loss and potential crash hazards.

Recalls

  • Fuel pump control module. (NHTSA 24V528000) 54,647 vehicles affected. Fuel pump failure may cause loss of drive power, increasing crash risk. Dealers will update engine control module software and inspect or replace the fuel pump assembly. Repairs are free. Owner notifications began September 2024.
  • Automatic transmission oil pump. (NHTSA 22V746000) 56,148 vehicles affected. Transmission oil pump malfunction impairs fail-safe drive mode which can cause complete loss of drive power. Dealers will inspect and replace the transmission if necessary and update transmission control unit software. Repairs are free. Owner notifications began January 2023.

Owners coping with repeated repairs related to power steering failure, engine misfires, or unresolved recall issues may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting a qualified attorney could clarify potential remedies.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

3 separate injectors have misfired, causing very low power to the acceleration of the vehicle, and creating a safety hazard to drive. There is a misfire engine light. The dealership has inspected these injectors and determined that the OEM parts are prone to misfire. This is a very common issue among, they point out, model year '22 Hyundai cars.

LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST

The vehicle intermittently enters a state in which Lane Keeping Assistance (LKA) and Power Steering simultaneously fail, indicated by lights and notifications on the cluster and resulting in complete loss of power steering. This malfunction can occur at any point in the vehicle's operation, which includes when the vehicle is parked, and lasts until the vehicle has had the battery disconnected or power has been turned off for at least 15 minutes, after which point the malfunction may still return upon next operation of the vehicle.

STEERING

Driving the vehicle when arriving to my destination going a speed below 10 mph, the steering became extremely heavy and an alert showed on the cluster screen stating "power steering failed". I had to exert substantial physical effort to maneuver the vehicle to a safe location to investigate the issue. At that moment the Check Engine Light (CEL) did not illuminate, but I suspect there must have been at least a passive fault code stored in the computer regarding the malfunction. I turned off the vehicle, waited a while, and restarted it, at which point the issue was gone, still no CEL present. And, no cluster screen alert anymore either. Fortunately, this occurrence was at a point of the drive going low speeds, otherwise I would have worried for my own and my passengers' safety. I am aware of this issue affecting several owners of 2019 - 2022 Hyundai Veloster N vehicles many of whom may have reported the issue like I am at this time. This must be escalated and a safety recall be issued in accordance with regulations ASAP.
