The engine suddenly seized up on me. Was told by my mechanic that that year and make once they get to a certain mileage gets premature engine failure. I looked it up and that year has a huge problem with this issue.

This car has oil consumption issues due to a manufacturer defect, design of the engine 2.4L. This has been on going for the last three years and is getting worse. Now is affecting the catalytic converter because of it burning so much oil. The Hyundai dealership will do nothing for me. Now they want $4,500 for a new catalytic converter. I can’t afford a new car and this should be an expense of Hyundai. In my research I have found there are thousands of cars on the road with this issue. They knew about this years ago and just kept making the cars and selling them . They should be helping me and all they are doing is denying that this has a problem. What recourse do I have. Why hasn’t there been a recall?

My engine failed. Dealership put it through an oil consumption test which it failed. They ended up keeping my car for 3 weeks to build a new engine, add new belts, new spark plugs and new filters to go with the repair. After completing this repair they told me they noticed my air bag light on. They recommended a new sensor to fix it. Which I was to pay $600 for. I agreed to this and had it done. I picked up the car and had it for 3 weeks before the airbag light came back on. I brought it back to dealership. They assessed it and told me the problem actually came from the seat and the total.to repair the whole seat would be $2500+ I am the only owner of this car. It has never been in an accident where the airbag deployed. It is in it's original state. I feel this is a huge safety concern that should be looked into.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Blown head gasket How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Engine overheated and coolant boiled in 110 degree weather. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes by Hyundai. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Yes by Hyundai. Hyundai states that engine needs to be replaced because the head gasket isn’t repairable on the 3.3L engine. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No, engine overheated once and diagnosis was blown head gasket.

My vehicle we bought from carvana has been jerking/misfiring and now with no warning on freeway it wouldn't give power stalling. There was no warning nothing no lights came up. I drive my kids in this vehicle I've taken it to multiple mechanics they say they couldn't find why it's jerking and it must be a manufacturer issue. I looked online and yes lots of issues with the make and model recall about the crankshaft sensor cause these issues!!!

Subject: Urgent Safety & Warranty Concern – 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport (TSB #21-01-002H) Dear Hyundai Customer Care and NHTSA, I am reporting a serious safety and warranty concern regarding my 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport (VIN: [XXX] , mileage:97,320). The vehicle is exhibiting excessive oil consumption after an initial Consumption test burning 3quarts of oil in 725 miles as well as causing damage to the intake manifold requiring it to be repaired and is consistent with the connecting rod bearing defect covered under Hyundai TSB #21-01-002H. This TSB extends engine coverage to 10 years/120,000 miles for precisely this issue. Despite this, my authorized dealer, Premier Hyundai of Moreno Valley has refused to take immediate corrective action and is requiring me to drive an additional 1,000 miles before performing the repair — a delay that increases the risk of catastrophic engine failure and endangers vehicle occupants and other motorists. Key points: This is a documented defect with a known history of sudden engine failure. TSB coverage and my warranty should apply immediately, without dangerous delay. The dealership’s requirement to continue driving the vehicle is unreasonable and unsafe. I am requesting: Immediate authorization for the engine diagnostic and replacement under TSB #21-01-002H. Confirmation from Hyundai that I am not required to continue operating a defective engine to “prove” the defect. NHTSA to log this complaint as part of the ongoing safety concerns regarding Hyundai Theta II engines. Please respond within 5 business days with next steps. I am prepared to provide full maintenance history, documentation, and dealership correspondence. Sincerely, [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

My vehicle is a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport AWD with a GDI Theta II 2.4L 4 cylinder engine. We purchased it in Feb. 2024 with 120,310 miles. Since then we have only put approximately 8,000 miles on it in 17 months. On Aug. 1st 2025 while driving up a hill out in the country the engine suddenly quit. Of course the steering and the brakes failed to operate. However I was able to coast to the next road and barely able to turn the wheel but made the corner and coasted to a stop. Without a nearby corner I would have been stuck on a state highway with many semi-trucks traveling on it. Could have been much more dangerous for my wife and I especially since we had to have the car put on a flatbed to be hauled home. The person who came to haul it checked the battery which was fine. You could hear the starter engage and try to turn the engine but it would not turn one bit. Once home we had a mechanic with many years experience have a look and listen to it. He could not get the engine to move even when trying to turn it by grabbing the engine belts and pullies. By all appearances the engine is seized. No warning lights were one and the oil was checked that very morning before leaving home. The vehicle was using about 1 qt of oil every 200 miles or so. Always used a high quality oil of proper weight/viscosity. Had no visible oil leaks on ground where it was parked every night. Hesitate to spend hauling fees to take it to the dealer 40 miles away if they are not going to do anything but offer to replace it for many thousands of dollars. For a couple living on social security this can absolutely turn things upside down as we only own one car (which we still owe on).

Motor replacement. I had taken my car several times into Hyundai for oil consumption issue. I replaced the recommended parts through Hyundai and ended up having to come right back after being stuck on the side of the interstate due to lack of compression two cylinder two I was told I needed to replace the motor. This has been a very expensive process and I haven’t had the car but 10 months.

Hyundai knows about the excessive oil consumption of these 2.0 Turbo GDI engines. My engine went out while driving my daughter down the road. Had to tow it to the dealer. Dealer is saying no compression on cylinder 3. Also a known issue. There was a massive lawsuit over engines already. Hyundai is no help. Excessive oil consumption has led to my engine going out. This needs to be investigated by safely board and Hyundai.

I am reporting a sudden engine failure involving my 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0T. At just 68,000 miles, the vehicle experienced catastrophic loss of power due to zero compression in Cylinder 1. The vehicle is equipped with the Theta II turbocharged engine, which has been the subject of previous investigations and safety recalls due to premature failure risks, including stalling and fire hazards. This failure occurred on [XXX], while I was driving on the highway. There was no warning. It put all drivers near me at risk as I had no power, was traveling in the left lane and had to navigate through 3 lanes of traffic to reach the breakdown lane. I request that this case be investigated further as a potential safety risk and recurrence of known issues with this engine type. This vehicle has experienced numerous serious failures, including two engine replacements, a transmission replacement, and persistent safety system malfunctions. The Downhill Brake Control (DBC) system remains stuck in the "on" position, and the traction control warning light stays illuminated. These issues directly compromise vehicle safety and stability, particularly on hilly or wet roads. Despite extensive service at Arapahoe Hyundai in Centennial, CO, these problems continue to return. The vehicle has been in the shop multiple times and was most recently in service for nearly 30 days. My wife was stranded at the dealership today due to the same unresolved safety system failure. Dealer communication has been poor, and repairs are often incomplete, requiring immediate return visits. The repeated failure of safety-critical systems, combined with the inability to resolve the issues long-term, presents a significant safety concern for both my family and others on the road. I am requesting NHTSA to investigate whether this is part of a broader defect pattern affecting 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe models and if a recall is warranted.

Twice my car's gear shifter went from Drive to the right hand side of the gear box. 90% or more of the power cut out immediately creating a massive safety issue. In both instances, i was pulling into traffic after making complete stops at stop signs. The first time, i turned left, the second time I turned right. The shift was untouched by me as it is not a stick shift car. Hyundai charged me close to $400 for the privledge of telling me that I or something bumped the shifter to the right. Also they claim that the shifter is designed to go into low gear if it does go to the right. a low gear should provide more power not cut it out. They refuse to fix the issue, but wanted me to bring it in so they could duplicate a problem that has occurred twice in four months.

The turbocharger failed on my 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0T. It is still on the vehicle and available for inspection upon request. The turbo failure caused a severe loss of engine power, making acceleration dangerously slow and unpredictable, especially when merging onto highways or passing vehicles. This sudden reduction in power could have caused a rear-end collision or made it impossible to avoid faster-moving traffic. Yes. The failure was confirmed by two independent service centers: Mavis Tires and Brakes, and Tires and Trust in Pensacola, FL. Both observed loss of turbo boost and excessive oil consumption consistent with turbocharger failure. Yes. The vehicle was also inspected by Allen Turner Hyundai in Pensacola, FL. They did not detect the failure during their inspection, but the issue persisted and was documented by the other two shops. The check engine light came on around 118,000–119,000 miles. After that, the turbocharger lost significant power, making the vehicle unable to accelerate normally. At the same time, the engine began consuming oil at an abnormally high rate, requiring frequent top-offs between oil changes. This suggests internal oil seal failure in the turbo or related component issues. These symptoms are consistent with failed turbocharger bearings or seals, oil starvation, or blocked oil lines causing overheating and damage. Such failures can release oil and metal debris into the intake and exhaust systems, risking further engine damage or even fire. Hyundai previously issued a software update (KSDS) to detect early bearing wear in these engines, which my vehicle received in 2019 (Service Campaign 953). Despite this, the turbo failure still occurred, suggesting the underlying design or manufacturing issue may not have been fully resolved. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this pattern of failures, given the safety risks of sudden power loss and potential fire hazard from oil leaks.

Hyundai previously issued a software update (KSDS) to detect early bearing wear in these engines, which my vehicle received in 2019 (Service Campaign 953). Despite this, the turbo failure still occurred, suggesting the underlying design or manufacturing issue may not have been fully resolved. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this pattern of failures, given the safety risks of sudden power loss and potential fire hazard from oil leaks.

engine oil excessive consumption. We bought (Sept 2024) this 2017 vehicle used at a Hyundia dealership, beautiful, loaded orange SUV, for my senior college student. We have to add quart after quart after quart of oil in-between oil changes. She hardly drives the car as she walks to class and works 1/2 mile from her Apt. We are scared for her to take even a 2hr road trip due to this issue. She is devasted and scared to drive it much and we are furious that we are stuck with this issue.

The car has been experiencing significant problems with oil consumption. During a routine oil change on 2/27/25 I was told my oil was significantly low and I had it refilled. When I checked the following weekend [XXX] it was significantly low again after only 500 miles. I took it to Take 5 in Lebanon, Tennessee, weekly for 3-4 weeks, near where I was working at the time, who topped off the oil again with 2 to 5 quarts weekly. On April 14, 2025, I brought the car to Hallmark Hyundai. They started an oil consumption test and a 20-point check when the mileage was 69,752. After 500 miles was driven, the oil tank was almost empty. Another check revealed the oil was leaking in 4 different places, that they (Hallmark Hyundai) reportedly fixed, including the valve cover gasket. On [XXX] while driving back to New Jersey from Nashville, I checked the oil after roughly 1000 miles of driving since the repair, and the dip stick was dry. (The service light did not go on.) Upon returning to New Jersey approximately 5/13/25, I took the car to Circle Hyundai in Shrewsbury, New Jersey, was told the valve cover gasket was still leaking, and replaced it again; I was charged a second time for this service. At another 500 miles I checked the oil, and it was again very low. Miguel at Circle Hyundai told me I needed to wait 500 more miles or when the service light comes on; I informed him the service light had stopped working (this was first noticed in Tennessee). On 6/2/25 I emailed Miguel again at 539 more miles and the dip stick registered oil halfway below the low line again. I was instructed to drop the car off and they would submit the claim to Hyundai; Hyundai reportedly responded that they were no longer responsible for a repair because the warranty had run out and I wasn't the original owner. I was told to continue to drive until an engine malfunction for my extended warranty with Assurance to cover repairs; I am concerned about the safety of the engine seizing. The engine is experiencing excessive oil consumption. A Hyundai dealership performed an oil consumption test 8 months ago and confirmed the vehicle is burning around 2 quarts of oil every 500 miles, which is far beyond normal operating limits. The engine is still installed in the vehicle and available for inspection upon request. This level of oil consumption puts the engine at high risk of failure while driving, which could result in a sudden loss of power, stalling, or even engine fire. The need to constantly monitor and refill oil creates an ongoing stressor and safety concern. There was no warning light or indicator before the oil levels dropped dangerously low. The Hyundai dealership that inspected the vehicle (Maguire Hyundai in Ithaca, NY) verified that the engine is burning oil at a rate consistent with known defects in Theta II engines, but stated the vehicle does not qualify for engine replacement under current recall or warranty guidelines because I am the second owner — despite the fact that I purchased it Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) through Hyundai in 2019 and I'm still under 100,000 miles.

The engine had no oil. No indication was given by the dashboard lights. I heard a ticking noise soon after I started my car. My husband checked the oil; it was bone dry. I still had 200 more miles before my next oil change. Needless to say, the engine would have blown up if I hadn’t payed attention to the noise coming from the vehicle. In fact, this happened about a year ago, I just thought it was a fluke. Since this is the second incident, this is not a fluke and something needs to be done. We can’t afford to have a vehicle blow up on us. There was no sign of leaking on the driveway.

This engine burns/consumes oil and the engine code that shows up in P00100. All of this after I paid it off. Not within warranty anymore either. $22,000 down the drain it seems... called hyundai customer service to see if there was anything that could be done but they said there is nothing they can do and I have to fix it even though it is a manufacturing issue.

They performed tests and required us to drive 1k miles to see how low the oil would be once brought back in, it did not make it back to the service department by the 1k miles as it completely failed beforehand with no warning light.

The engine in my 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe (VIN [XXX] ) began knocking, losing power, and showing signs of imminent failure. These symptoms directly match those identified in Recall #168 (NHTSA Campaign 17V578000), which involves engine bearing wear due to crankshaft irregularities in Hyundai 3.3L GDI engines. However, my VIN is not currently included in the recall batch. Hyundai has denied engine replacement under warranty or goodwill, citing a gap in oil change records between 5,000 and 45,000 miles — mileage which occurred before I purchased the vehicle used at ~60,000 miles. I have since performed multiple oil changes, though not always on a tight schedule. The vehicle is now at ~89,000 miles and located at Murdock Hyundai of Logan, UT, where technicians confirmed the engine is failing. This defect poses a serious safety concern due to the risk of sudden power loss while driving. The issue has been reproduced and confirmed by Hyundai service technicians, but they declined coverage and repair despite the failure matching a known federal recall issue. There were no warning lamps initially; the knocking and loss of power began subtly, then worsened rapidly. The vehicle is available for inspection, and all failure symptoms are consistent with others affected by Recall #168. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this VIN for potential inclusion in the recall and take action to expand the recall scope, as this appears to be the same dangerous engine defect already recognized under federal recall. They discovered there was no oil in the car and they have also found metal shavings in my oil. Now they are telling me I need a whole new engine. I only have 124000 miles on this car. I have only had my car 7 years and it is at 151,000 miles. I purchased it brand new in 2018. At about 15,000 miles I reported a burning smell under the hood and took kt in. The service department stated they did not smell anything. I continued to keep up with the service and had some issues with oil consumption. Hyundai did the test, but came back and advised it was okay and Hyundai's do this and it is okay. I later had an issue where it began jerking as if it were about to cut off after coming back from Virginia. I had it towed in and they advised it was nothing. Maybe bad gas. I was also told to just always check my car to put oil in it. I felt like this was crazy to have to carry around oil to put in my car within the same month of having an oil change or anytime. I have taken this vehicle in for this reason before I reached 150,000 miles and they would not give me an engine starting it necer had a recall. I explained that it has had issues where it stalled pulling out to get in traffic and I almost had an accident and it has had issues with the engine where it would jerk and hesitate. At this time, I recently went to Simpsonville for a funeral and it began the jerking and hesitation when we got into Fountain Inn. It was a lot and I was told by a mechanic that I needed a new engine. Hyundai would not help me. I called consumer affairs, I guesd with Hyundai and they took over 2 weeks and said there were no recalls and they couldn't do anything. I bought this car brand new, made sure I took care of it and this was what I got. Hyundai is a rip off and they do not guarantee anything. I will never buy from them again. Now I have been without a vehicle for over a month and not even anyone trying to get me a loaner, help with giving me a discount to purchase another vehicle or anything. I should have not had any issues with this car. I was having the exact issues of the recall vehicles but they state there were no recalls on it. Something needs to be done.

Vehicle has been excessively consuming oil. I have been doing regular oil changes every 3k miles and topping off when it gets low. I was driving on the highway and experienced total engine failure with no warning signs. Engine completely locked up and is at the dealership waiting to be inspected.

My 2017 Hyundai SanteFe (76,000 miles) stoped running late night, dark highway. Manged to pull off onto the shoulder. The engine wouldn't even turn over. After about a 2 hour wait I had the vehicle towed to my residence, eventually having it towed to the dealer from which it was purchased. After a few days the service advisor called to tell me that the entire engine needs to be replaced. That, he said, will take 3+ months because it's a manufacturer"s defect. I explained to him that I depend on my SUV for personal and professional reasons so I asked if a loaner car could be provided. The dealer, Heritage Hyundai of Towson, and Hyundai corporate (I called) both refused. Also: Aproximate Blue Book value is $15k. Hyundai's cost to replace the engine is $30k according to the service writer at Heritage.

I am writing to express my serious concerns regarding the vehicle we purchased in October 2022. Initially, the vehicle performed adequately with only the usual repairs. However, in August 2024, we began to hear a rattling noise coming from the engine. Regrettably, the situation has since worsened significantly. At any given moment, the vehicle can stop working entirely while driving, posing a severe safety risk. We have found ourselves having to pull over to the side of the road and attempt to restart it. To avoid being stranded, especially during the winter months, we limited our driving to within a five-mile radius of our home. By January 2025, the engine had completely failed, rendering the vehicle immobile. Upon contacting the Hyundai dealership, we were informed that there are no recalls associated with our vehicle's VIN number. It was at this point that we discovered our vehicle had already undergone an engine replacement before our purchase, a fact that was never disclosed to us. Additionally, we learned about a class action lawsuit against Hyundai for issues with smaller engines. Our vehicle, which is equipped with a V6 engine, is experiencing the exact same problems as those smaller engines. We are now left with an unusable vehicle that we still need and pay for every month. I am bringing this matter to your attention in the hope of receiving guidance or assistance. Thank you for your time and understanding.

In October I took my car to dealership for an oil consumption test and I was going through 10-15 quarts of oils between oil changes. In 322 miles I used 2 quarts of oil.Replace the engine is what I was told and manufacturer denied all goodwill. I ride around with a 5qt jug of oil and funnel in my car at all times. 10 days I was driving down the highway with my husband and child with the cruise control on, when I noticed that my tactometer was continuing to increase and the engine reving for no reason. I shut the cruise control off and the car speed slowed immediately, and when apply my foot to the gas I was not gaining any speed only slowing down. I pulled over into the break down lane and put the car in park. Once I put the car into park, it started to idle very loud and hard with the check engine, oil pressure and battery lights coming on and stalled, would not start. Had towed to personal mechanic he recommended taking it to the dealership as he was coming up with no pressure in the 4th cylinder and the 3rd at about 50%, checked with boarscope for faulty valves and saw nothing. Towed to dealership they say valve was consumed thru the engine it runs fine but not because engine needs to be replaced.

I am [XXX] old and live in Denver, Colorado. In August of 2021, I bought a Hyundai as a graduation gift for myself. This has easily been the worst mistake I have ever made, a decision that haunts me every second of every day. With the car chip shortage and the pandemic, car prices were at an all-time high, so it took longer than expected to find my dream car. I eventually focused on finding a car online rather than in person. My car was delivered from Vroom with the check engine light on. I had a three month warranty with Hyundai. I took the car to Schomp Hyundai, located at 100 Havana St for a diagnostic test. They said nothing was showing up, so they reset it. A month later, the check engine light came back on, so I returned, and the same thing happened. This occurred a third time before my warranty ended. There have been a total of 3 recalls on my car. In the summer of 2023, I received a letter about the "Service brakes, hydraulic: antilock/traction control/electronic limited slip: control unit/module" recall. I made an appointment and was able to get it serviced almost three months later receiving a warning that "an engine compartment fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury" should have been taken more seriously. Until this was fixed, I did not drive my car and instead spent hundreds on Ubers, Lyfts, and public transportation, all while paying my monthly nearly $400 car note and insurance payments. The check engine light was still on, and I thought it was related to the fuse (recall). After the fuse was replaced, I learned that the check engine light was due to a leak, not the recall. Now I am being told that it is an engine issue and Hyundai Consumer Affairs (Tasha) made it seem like this would be part of the Goodwill program, they are not sure if they can fix it because I don't have warranty on the engine after they told me to take the car in and promised to fix it for me to find out I do have a warranty on the engine. & car break ins INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF IN

I purchased a used 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport with 77,500 miles from Auto Boutique in Columbus, Ohio, on [XXX]. On November 8, 2024, I had the oil changed and a new oil filter installed. However, on [XXX], I experienced catastrophic engine failure with only 85,000 miles on the vehicle, just months after my purchase. I was not informed by Auto Boutique that a Hyundai Engine II Class Action lawsuit had been filed against Hyundai regarding certain models, including the one I purchased. This lawsuit pertains to engine defects that could cause stalling, seizure, failure, and even fire. I have also been denied warranty repairs by Hyundai. Auto Boutique informed me that I purchased the vehicle "as is," but I was not made aware of two recalls on my vehicle related to excessive oil consumption, which can lead to a defective engine that uses too much oil, stalls, and ultimately fails. I am seeking assistance in understanding my rights and would appreciate any help in resolving this issue with either Auto Boutique or Hyundai. Thank you. When driving, my vehicle had a loss of power. The check engine light came on. My mechanic informed me that I needed a new engine. I had it towed to a Hyundai dealership. They also confirmed the engine needs to be replaced. According to the vin number my vehicle's engine is not one recalled, and yet the engine has failed. It is currently back at my original mechanic. I've been told a bolt came loose and cracked the valve cover. There was no oil it it when I got it to the mechanic and there were metal shavings in the oil filter. The last oil change was Nov 2023

My santa fe stalled on me while I was driving had it brought to a garage. I was told that there was metal shavings in my oil and that the crank shaft was bad and I needed to get a new engine. I was told that there was a recall for this and I called the manufacturer and was told that it was not covered under the recall.

The engine of my 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe failed at 126,000 miles. Upon a prior oil change maintenance, metal shavings were found in the filter and discarded oil. Couple days after the oil change, the car stalled on the road. The car was thawed to a Hyundai dealership. The dealership identified that there were loose metallic parts in the engine. They sent the result of there diagnostic to Hyundai Motors USA. Prior to this issues, engine light will come on and off.

My vehicle has 84,000 miles and has regular maintenance done. On 1/20/24 my wife was driving the car when suddenly it started to make a terrible knocking sound, the oil light flashed for just a second and the check engine light came on. She was near an auto store and they checked the code, which said "replace engine block." I came with a trailer to tow it home and by then the check engine light is flashing when the car is turned on. I have done some research and calling to mechanics to find out that these vehicles have a major "oil consumption problem" that causes them to do this at relatively low miles and it has affected thousands of people. I also learned that as a second owner I am not within any warranty from Hyundai since I bought it 4 years ago, and I still owe $10k on the car. The estimated cost for a new engine is $10-12,000 and I can't afford to double what I owe on a car, especially when I have little faith in a new version of the same problematic engine. We are a family of 5 with small kids and jobs and are down to one vehicle. I don't understand why a recall hasn't been issued or why Hyundai isn't being held accountable for this. Thank you.

2017 Santa Fe with 85k miles suddenly has engine failure. Come to find out this is a common problem in these vehicles specifically. Was stranded on the side of the freeway for over four hours. Told me there was practically nothing they could do for it. Never had an issue before and got regular oil changes before the 3k mile mark. Told me the engine threw a rod. Never had a problem like this with any other car, even ones much older (over 7 years over).

I took my Hyundai Santa Fe sport to Central Valley Hyundai in Modesto, CA on 10/31/2024 to have a diagnosis done to the car since the car turned off on me while I was driving and after a week being at the dealership this was their response. Hello [XXX], sorry for the late reply! We are short handed today, and busy! Anyways, My technician had the chance to take a look at your vehicle. Your vehicle is going to need an engine due to it not passing the bearing clearance test. I submitted paperwork to Hyundai and I am currently waiting to hear back from them in regards to a decision. I will let you know as soon as I hear something. after another week went by this is what Hyundai had to say. I just checked, and they declined the coverage of your engine, this was their response: The vehicle is not eligible for extended warranty TXXI. Per the terms of the extended warranty, the campaign 953 software must have been installed on the vehicle prior to bearing malfunction. Our records indicate campaign 953 was not completed on this vehicle. For further clarification, the terms of the extended warranty and related settlement. Notice may be reviewed here. [XXX] . No goodwill assistance is being offered at this time I was never made aware of a recall that needed to be done to the engine. I never received a letter in the mail and also I spoke to Hyundai customer service and they said that I never received the notice due to being sent to the original owner which was a car rental business. While driving my 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, I heard a knocking sound coming from the engine. Shortly afterward, the vehicle began moving jerkingly forward, and the oil, engine, and battery warning lights illuminated on the dashboard. The vehicle then shut off completely in the middle of a busy street. I attempted to restart it, but while the engine made a starting sound, it immediately shut back down. The electrical system remained functional (lights and radio), but the vehicle would not restart. Due to the failure, I had to exit the vehicle and physically push it to the side of the road in cold, rainy conditions with reduced visibility, creating a risk of being struck by oncoming traffic. Strangers who assisted in moving the vehicle also placed themselves at risk. A certified mechanic has since confirmed that the engine has locked up and identified this as a known issue with Hyundai engines. Prior to this incident, the only warning sign was the oil light briefly flashing while driving on an uneven road surface. At the time, I was on my way to have an oil change within the manufacturer-recommended time frame and assumed the light indicated routine maintenance was needed.

My wife and I bought a used 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe, and the car has performed admirably over the last 4 to 5 years. Within the last month, the car started having stuttering issues and we took the car to our local shop, where we asked for a quick check and an oil change. The local shop reported that we had a Crank Shaft Advance error code, and that the car did not have much oil in it. We have not seen major oil loss between oil changes before, which concerned me. Once the car was full on oil the error codes cleared and the car worked well over the next few weeks. Oil levels seemed good during that time, but my wife took the car out to New York and back, then a trip into Boston (around 600 miles overall). On the way back from Boston, the engine stalled and would not start. We sent the car to be checked at a local Pep Boys, they performed a borescope and believed that the engine needed replacement. I contacted Autofair Hyundai and had the car towed there to service under Hyundai TSB 24-EM-007H. [XXX] >> The dealership mentioned that the diagnostics would cost ~200 dollars and detailed a number of error codes (low fuel flow, crankshaft advance, etc.). They then quoted a $8,000 to make the repairs and then they could check to see if the car met any warranty requirements. I opened a ticket with Hyundai and the ticket was closed. I believe this falls under Docket No. [XXX] and should be covered under Hyundai Technical Service Bulletin (23-EM-007H) [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

My 2017 Hyundai Santa fe sport burns through 2qts of oil between oil changes (every 3000 miles). I check my oil once a week to make sure I have adequate oil to ensure my engine doesn't blow, Hyundai has open recalls on the 2017 models of my vehicle but my VIN number is not included...I have complained to Hyundai corporate and also the dealer and they state that I have to do an oil consumption test, at cost to me, to prove that their engine is defective...I first noticed this issue about 1 month after I purchased my vehicle, I was driving and my oil light flashed on for less than a second, I stopped at my sisters house and let my engine cool down and checked my oil and there was absolutely none... I refilled it and then began checking my oil weekly. I add at least 1/4-1/2 quart per week between oil changes. Every time I take my car in for an oil change they have to add an extra quart and make me aware that my vehicle is burning a significant amount of oil... This is my everyday car, I use it to get back and forth to work, I transport my children in this vehicle. There is a 953 Recall and also 218 but my VIN is not included.
