Our vehicle was towed to a Hyundai Dealership on July 26, 2025 (VIN [XXX] ) 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe to see if the engine falls under Hyundai's TSB #22-EM-001H-1Engine Failure Campaign. This vehicle has now been at Chapman Hyundai in Scottsdale AZ for over 5 weeks. We have yet to receive confirmation from Hyundai that any testing was done to see if the rods failed, thus having the engine fall under the recall. What we have received was a statement that “The engineering department did some tests and said that they didn’t think it was a rod issue, that it was due to lubrication not getting to the engine. When I asked for that data to be sent to me so I could review it with our long-time mechanic and my mechanical engineers that I work with, I was told that would not be possible, I just had to “trust” what I was being told. However, as a show of “good faith” in their unwillingness to provide us data, Hyundai was willing to pay for half of an engine replacement, leaving us on the hook for over $3,000 to the dealership. While I told the Executive Correspondence Department that that offer was not satisfactory, I did tell him we would be willing to pay $1,000 towards the replacement if Hyundai absorbed the remainder since on the above offer, I was paying retail while Hyundai is absorbing costs at wholesale prices. Five weeks on, we still have not received any confirmation as to the real issue of the engine failure, and frankly I have a hard time believing that any manufacturer would be willing to come up with the offer proposed if they didn’t believe the issue was substantially theirs. The company’s lack of willingness to provide data for us to review is very concerning and makes me think that the issue would indeed fall under the recall. The passenger airbag sensor is malfunctioning and does not recognize that a passenger is in the car. The dealership advised that they don't know if the airbag would deploy if an accident occurred, which presents a risk to passengers. The airbag light stays on all the time. The dealership performed the diagnostics on the vehicle on 2/5/2025 and confirmed that the sensor was malfunctioning. They advised that the parts were on back order (88104-4Z591-VAS and 88952-4Z500). We still have not been able to obtain both parts as of 8/26/2025. We have contacted dealerships in other states who advised that they've been waiting on these parts for over a year. We are unable to fix the vehicle, and it is unsafe to drive with anyone in the passenger seat. We opened an issue with Hyundai Corporate, but did not receive any resolution. We were told that they would reimburse us for the cost of a rental when we needed to transport additional passengers. They later denied our request because 1) They claim it is not a safety-related issue, and 2) it occurred outside the state where we initially took the vehicle to the dealership since we are on a long-term work assignment and temporarily living in another state.

While I was dropping on the highway my vehicle suddenly slowed down when and the engine started shaking when I approached around 40mph and the check engine light started flashing. After checking I’m getting the error codes P1326 and P0014. I’m not unable to go past 40mph and the vehicle starts stalling when I approach that speed which is incredibly dangerous depending on what road I’m on. I’ve had zero issues with this vehicle previously and have always had regular maintenance. After researching other Santa Fe sport have had identical issues and there are recalls for other years but my year 2018 was skipped for some reason even though it’s clearly affected.

I was driving down the road when the check engine light began to flash. The vehicle started to decelerate and began to sputter. This was a serious safety issue as there were vehicles behind me which put myself and other drivers at risk. I was able to pull over on the side of the road. I cut the vehicle off and waited a few minutes. I cut the vehicle back on and the check engine light was still blinking. I was able to drive the vehicle back to my home but was not able to go over 40 mph and had to repeatedly pull over to ensure my safety. Diagnostic of the vehicle indicated a code P1326. The vehicle was taken to a local Hyundai Dealership to get a second diagnostic. This was truly terrifying for me. I’m glad I didn’t have my son in the car with me at this time. Also done research and it states that the P1326 code in Hyundai Santa Fe sport vehicles, particularly those with 2.0L turbo and 2.4L engines, is linked to a recall concerning connecting rod bearing wear and potential engine failure. This issue is addressed through a recall or a product improvement campaign, which may involve engine replacement or software updates. The knock sensor detection system (KSDS), associated with code P1326, is designed to detect excessive bearing wear and activate engine protection mode. My Hyundai only has 82000 miles on it. So I’m writing this to let you know that this is a big safety issue and needs to be addressed and fixed on my Hyundai.

In May while driving on the highway my car suddenly wouldnt accelerate and started jerking. It would go past 60-65 and the engine light was on. Took it to get repaired and they stated the whole engine needed to be replaced. Never once had an issue with my car until then. Of course we got the runaround went it came to the warranty. After repairs I notice my car does not run the same and that its slow to accelerate. Fast forward about a month later the starter goes bad in the car and now its completely unoperable.

In under 5,000 miles, my vehicle consumed over 5qt of oil. No indication of leaking. Took to an auto shop with ASE-certified technicians who verified that the vehicle is over-consuming oil. They explained that the rings around the pistons are no longer sealing properly, allowing combustion to escape. This explains the char marks on my dry dip-stick, which I checked immediately when my engine light turned on, which was my first indication of a problem. I had the vehicle checked out and oil changed immediately upon the engine light turning on. The light turned on as I was parking at the parking lot where I work. I added oil in order to make it to the auto shop, so as not to drive on zero oil. This is a risk of the engine failing while driving and potential to cause a fire.

I was driving on the highway in April when my engine jolted and my car would not accelerate over 65mph. The engine light came on, and I was afraid that my car would seize and cause harm to myself and to other drivers. The flow of traffic was much higher, and I could not keep up with other vehicles. I feared that faster cars would crash into me or cause an accident trying to pass me. I pulled over ASAP and had to wait for roadside assistance. The dealer confirmed it was the knock code sensor p1326 that kicked in. I have maintained proper oil maintenance and have had a fuel induction service, prior to this event. An independent service center told me about the service recall on the engine, but the dealership will not acknowledge it nor my car's warranty.

Vehicle failed an oil consumption test. Dealership acknowledges that the vehicle burns 1.5 quarts per 1 thousand miles. The dealership initially told me that Hyundai would cover a combustion cleaning. However after acknowledging my mileage, they are now refusing to provide any assistance. This is a known issue and they are not acknowledging it. The dealership instructs me to drive until the problem progresses, but according to their data there is already a problem outside of the manufacturers specifications.

The car stopped on a local road. The car was moved to a local mechanic shop, and the mechanic there diagnosed that the engine was locked up. It was towed to the dealership where the car was serviced last. If it had happened in on a highway, it would have caused very dangerous situation. There was no warning sign - no check engine light, no low engine oil light. Everything appeared to be working normally.

The contact owns a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. The contact stated that while her husband was driving 50 MPH, the vehicle jerked and failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal. There was an abnormal sound coming from the engine compartment with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact's husband was able to pull over to the side of the road and ended up inside a ditch before the vehicle came to a stop. The contact stated that there was smoke coming from underneath the hood. The vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine had failed. The vehicle was then towed to a dealer, who confirmed that the engine had failed; and there was gasoline intrusion into the engine, causing engine failure. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that a manager would contact her. The vehicle remained at the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 99,501.

I’ve got a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport with a Theta II engine that’s failing—burning oil way too fast, coolant mixing in the cylinders, and throwing a P0304 misfire code. It’s been undrivable since late April 2025, and I’m worried about safety because the misfire and engine failure risk could cause it to stall on the highway, putting me and others in danger. It shakes when I try to drive, which feels unsafe. A Hyundai dealer confirmed the issue, finding coolant in the cylinders and the misfire, with no visible oil leak. Oil change receipts show the oil disappearing over a few weeks. The manufacturer reviewed my case but denied the warranty claim, saying it’s not covered since I’m a second owner and it’s not a rod bearing issue, even though the 2021 Theta II settlement should apply to this. The seller didn’t disclose the engine’s defect history when I bought it in 2023. The check engine light came on in early April 2025 with the misfire code, and I noticed the oil issue then. It’ll be out of service over 30 days by mid May 2025, so I’m taking legal action.

Vehicle has an excessive oil intake and it is constantly blowing out the spark plugs and coil packs causing poor performance on the vehicle overall. My vehicle's VIN number was listed as a qualifier in a class action lawsuit, but the manufacturer says it is not making the noise it needs to make in order to have it checked. Was also informed I need to pull out my spark plugs and clean them regularly because of the oil buildup. This problem has caused other problems with the performance of the car the excessive oil intake has caused countless problems terrible performance of the vehicle and is attributing to other poor performance issues. This has been an ongoing problem and have only recently been told by the dealership of this instance. Even though my vehicle is one of the ones in the extended recall because it's not making the noise they like they won't do anything about it. This vehicle is still being financed and I am refusing to pay for anything until the matter is resolved. I am getting the oil change for the highest amount of mileage, usually driving sparingly throughout the week, and still having to get oil added in between oil changes. I purchased this car in December 2023. As 2024 happened, I had a routine maintenance check on the car. The oil was changed, all the fluids checked etc. It appeared fine. Within a year, I have to change the spark plugs twice and once again in 2025..That's isn't normal. The plugs were jet black. Oil is seeping out of the gas tank. Not natural. There is an OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUE. My mechanic had typed notes on my receipt on what the problem(s) had been. Every other week, I am adding oil to my car. It isn't paid for. I would like a recall established on my car. I am [XXX] and need a reliable car. I went to one HYUNDAI dealership, provided the information my mechanic had written. Refused to give me the oil consumption test. I paid $200 or $238 for an oil change and a plug of some sort. I am aware that there was a class action lawsuit against HYUNDAI in 2022 for the same issue for my car. Money was paid to those whom had this issue ( I read). I have problems with my legs and back. I really need help. I need a recall on my car. Approximately, maybe a little less, every 5000 miles, my engine light comes on. I know a faulty spark plug shake. I can't afford to buy a new or replacement engine that work. I have never contacted NHTSA before I purchased this vehicle. I did call HYUNDAI main customer service line and was informed a recall had never been issued for this problem. Yet, numerous owners had and still have this issue along with the car hesitating at time to start. That is a problem with my as well. I am not sure of the exact date the first set of spark plugs were replaced. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The day after I purchased this 2018 Used Hyundai Santa Fe, the passenger air bag light came on. July 2024. I have been working with the dealership where I purchased the vehicle (Larry H Miller Chevrolet, in Murray Utah), and calling Hyundai Corporation for months. Hyundai called me every 3 days for almost 3 months with a customer update and they would say is "We have no updates". This is extremely frustrating. The main idea Hyundai Corporate office is telling me is that they don't have a contract with someone that would provide the vehicle part to fix this issue. They don't have a car part available in existence to fix this issue. This is a huge safety concern. I asked them "does that mean my passenger airbag could randomly go off while I'm driving down the road, or does this mean that my passenger airbag won't go off in case I got in a wreck?" They said that it could mean a number of things, but at this time, do not put anyone in the front seat of my car. The car part is a passenger airbag plate sensor that is underneath the passenger seat. Hyundai said there are no after market parts that are sufficient enough to put into the vehicle. Especially with it being a safety issue. How can this be on the consumer??? This is very crippling. This is a huge safety concern with no timeline for resolve. I am very mad. I have been fighting this for 9 months now.

The motor is gone in the vehicle. Oil light would blink and valves rattling right after having the oil changed. I have had the car checked by numerous mechanics and no oil leaks were found but oil levels would be low a week after the oil change. I ride around with oil in the car and have to make sure to check the oil before every trip even if it’s right around the block. I’ve had the car for a year in February and the motor went out a weeks ago. I have checked for engine recalls and have not found any but have found multiple forums of people having the same issue. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The Engine with the 2.0T had a valve train malfunction possibly related to a bearing or other issues. Hyundai dealership did not determine the root cause and is denying engine replacement under the rod bearing warranty. Also as a 2nd owner they won't reimburse for any repairs. This vehicle was well maintained. 2018 with 90K miles. The engine is last known to be at the dealership but probably not available. I was not offered to get a 2nd opinion and the technician notes are vague in my opinion. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? While traveling on the interstate at 65 MPH the vehicle began to make a knocking noise and had a loss of power. The steering and breaking system also became difficult to use. I was able to get off an exit after only crawling along at a unsafe low MPH for the interstate. The vehicle stalled and lost all power while on the off ramp. I was able to glide to a stop and was ready to use the emergency brake. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Hyundai's response is that it was in there opinion that the breakdown was not due to rod bearing failure however there is not a good diagnostics of a root cause. The failure was not due to poor maintenance. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Just the dealership. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warning lights. Sudden loss of power following by warning lights. Loss of power steering and brakes by the time the engine stalled.

I bought my 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport from Toyota of Scranton as a certified pre-owned vehicle. I was told by the sales representative, Doug, that the car had been “checked and serviced, everything down to a full tank of gas”. In March, my oil light quickly flashed. When I checked it there was low oil, so I did an oil change. In June the oil light quickly flashed again. I informed Toyota of Scranton and they recommended an oil change and changing the drain plug. They reimbursed me after I did so because I had bought the car so recently so I “likely bought it that way”. However, the issues continued and I had it looked at by Kost Tire & Auto Service to rule out a leak. On November 6, 2024 I brought it to Toyota so they could diagnose the issue, as I am still in the mileage window for my warranty. I picked up November 8, 2024 to begin a 1,000 mile oil consumption test. I brought the car back November 27, 2024 and it was established that the car was “excessively burning oil”. -- The engine has failed. -- The dealer confirmed the issue. -- The warranty company says they do not consider this issue a "mechanical failure" and will not cover the damage. -- Toyota tore down the engine and the warranty company inspected it. The car is still sitting at Toyota torn down.

In May 2024, the vehicle's oil light came on while slightly turning the wheel or braking. When taken to a dealership, they stated that the car only had one quart of oil remaining, which was 4,000 miles after my last oil change and not due for another 1,000 miles. They stated there was excessive oil consumption and recommended the vehicle be taken to Hyundai dealer. I took the vehicle to Hyundai dealer in August 2024 because the car was making a rattling sound when accelerating from 0-40mph along with the car jerking between 30-40mph if accelerating except when only applying light pressure to the accelerator. Hyundai dealer stated there was no oil remaining in the vehicle, which was why the vehicle was shaking and rattling when accelerating. They began a claim process with Hyundai as the vehicle was under 100K warranty. After two consumption tests, it was deemed the vehicle was not consuming oil as previously thought. After the last consumption test in October 2024, the oil light began to come back on with me braking the vehicle. Hyundai dealer stated there was nothing further they could do to assist and stated I'd need to reach out to Hyundai customer care to file a report. I did this 10/18/24, and in December, Hyundai customer care told me to take the vehicle back to Hyundai dealer. Hyundai said at that time that now there was an oil leak from the oil pressure sensor, which allowed oil to pass through the entire main wiring of the engine until it reached the PCM. They said I need to replace the PCM, oil pressure switch, and engine control harness for $7,000, not covered by the warranty. Parts are also on backorder for over a year. My car's oil light continues to come on, and now the engine light is coming on while my car shakes when I reach 45mph or greater. It is deemed no longer safe to drive the vehicle, especially with my children in the car. When I checked the dipstick, it was completely out of oil, which was 1500 miles after they performed oil change.

In 2024, I initially suspected that my car was being improperly serviced at local Jiffy Lubes. Later, I thought it might be an oil leak, so I took it to the dealership. They informed me that there was an oil pan gasket leak and replaced it. However, when I returned the car a week later and said it wasn't fixed, they inspected it and claimed everything was fine. As months went by, I found myself consistently adding oil to the vehicle whenever the warning light came on. Whether I added 1 quart or 3 quarts at a time, the oil light would come on again about a week later, and I continued this cycle of adding oil. It was not until I found social media platforms/forums about a reoccurring problem with Hyundai vehicles burning oil. I have not talked to the dealership since so many people have stated in these forums that there is no solution because Hyundai denies there is a problem. I have 110k miles on the car and as long as there is no recall, I am forced to have the engine replaced at my cost. I am a retired, disabled veteran and cannot afford to have such expenses. There has to be a resolution to this problem with all of these peoples reports.

For the past 1.5 months my oil light has come on intermittently. This is odd because the vehicle has regular oil changes still not due for almost 2000 miles. 4 bottle of oil was added recently. Today the car stopped working while on the NJ turnpike when checked there was no oil in the engine.
