POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:FLUID/LUBRICANT:PUMP

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Palisade Tucson, 2023 Sonata, Elantra, and Kona vehicles. The electronic controller for the Idle Stop & Go oil pump assembly may contain damaged electrical components that can cause the pump controller to overheat.

Risk: An electric oil pump assembly that overheats increases the risk of a vehicle fire.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:POWER ASSIST

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2023 Palisade vehicles. The brake booster diaphragm may become misaligned and cause an internal vacuum leak, which can result in a loss of power brake assist.

Risk: A loss of power brake assist can extend the distance required to stop, increasing the risk of a crash.

Leased vehicle in 2023 after a few months rear suspension was giving problems after a year of ignoring claims they saw the rear bushings were out. They changed it and after a few months again the problem came back more permanent. They admitted the part was faulty. Change the suspension and now it sounds like a space ship when breaking. Went in for 30k maintenance and now the ac vents sound like a plane. Two days later after a storm I see the roof is leaking and rear sunroof is also leaking. Since the near three year ownership it has been problem after problem not cause by me but by poor quality management at the dealer.

Anti locking braking system malfunctioning and preventing me from braking at low speeds in a parking lot and at a stop light. No lights on internally (Dash). Had to swerve to avoid hitting the vehicle in front of me at the stop light and had to hit my horn to have the person in the parking lot slam on their brakes to avoid hitting me. Both incidents happened at about 5 miles per hours on flat grounds.

While sitting at a stop sign, I attempted to place my vehicle in Park. I opened the driver’s side door, but the car had not actually shifted into Park. None of the vehicle’s safety systems engaged when the door was opened. The car rolled forward with me partially outside the vehicle, dragging me until it struck a tree. ABS system engaging at unpredictable times. Unable to stop. Have slid into intersection when braking with perfect road conditions. Feels like I hit ice in 100 degree weather. Experience shaking/brakes locking up. Extremely concerning and frightening when I am driving with children in the car and purchased the vehicle under the assumption it had superior safety ratings. Pleading for recall to be issued due to this system.

Safety of occupants as well pedestrians and other motorists affected. Problem can be reproduced although dealer refused to confirm. I am in the process of getting it confirmed independently. Vehicle and components not inspected by manufacturer, police nor insurance. Although I am in the process of putting an insurance claim in. The issue has been reported and confirmed by several other owners of same make and model and year. No prior warning of issue to it happening. The problem: At low speed below 30mph and braking simultaneously when going over rough ground (non slippery), potholes or in my accident going over a 6” drain to my garage, the ABS kicks in when it shouldn’t and the brake pedal vibrates and the vehicle lurches a bit. The result is that the braking distance increases significantly. I can reproduce the issue in particular roads areas. The accident I had involved when I was parking the car and the drain cover was dislodged at the entrance to the garage. I hit the brakes as usual but the brakes were ineffective and I ended up crashing into my refrigerator and freezer in the garage which took the full brunt of the impact and were damaged. I hardly had any brakes at all and the fridges took the full impact. Luckily it was at low speed. So only the front bumper got cracked and got damaged along with the fridges being fully crushed in. After the incident I was so shocked at what happened and couldn’t believe I lost the brakes so I found that several other owners of the same vehicle has had the same or even severe brake failures. I was able to replicate the problem fairly consistently in certain roads where it was slightly bumpy or rough. I didn’t want to try in my garage for obvious reasons. Furthermore the emergency brakes and collision warning did not activate either.

SUSPENSION

Bumping, Creaking, Popping noise from rear of vehicle, at low speeds (30MPH and under) and when turning. Rear shocks replaced in September 2023 at 10,018 miles; Rear shock mounts replaced in June 2025 and rear shock absorbers replaced in July 2025, at approximately 32,000 miles. Same bumping, creaking, popping noise from rear of vehicle again - Less than 1 month and less than 1,500 miles since rear shock absorbers replaced.

SERVICE BRAKES

ABS system malfunctions when traveling over bumps and applying brakes simultaneously. This condition happens intermittently and is found to be present in other automobiles of the same make and model. (Experienced in a rental vehicle). The result of this malfunction is the sensation of the abs system activating by the presence of vibration in the brake pedal. This occurs for a short duration, accompanied by a brief but significant decrease in braking performance. This condition almost caused a collision while entering a busy intersection. Dealer service advisor was notified but declared it to be normal. Also, a formal complaint was sent to the manufacturer.

STRUCTURE:BODY

The sunroof glass exploded while traveling on the highway. The glass panel was closed shut about a minute before the incident. Small and large glass fragments entered the passenger cabin while traveling at highway speed. One large fragment caused a small laceration to the drivers arm. Another fragment struck the vehicle traveling behind and caused minor damage. Other large and small fragments landed on 2nd row passengers. There was no evidence of a foreign object or road debris causing this incident.

In spite, the car light on and the issues they refused to attend the car and asked me to go back Monday morning, which I did , same issued on my way there, and I arrived there with the engine light on , service advisor Rasheena M Dyer , took the car, saw the light on, took pictures and asked me to wait for the mechanic to review the car. After two hours the service advisor, said “ there’s nothing we could do, or anything could do, the car is misfiring and anything could be causing the car to misfired, the mechanic don’t see the light right now, therefore, we can’t diagnose anything, but the car is misfiring “. I replied:” my car is under 50,000 miles and under manufacturer warranty, can you give me a rental, while you fixed the engine problem, I have 5 children , how can I drive around with my kids with an engine light on and the issues is giving me”, she replied: we won’t give you a rental because we don’t know what the problem is , ( although they know and said the car motor is misfiring )unless you pay $200 dollars . They sent me away with the engine light on, and the car making sounds and movements as if is going to go off anytime . Hyundai refused to help me although the engine lights are on and my car is still under warranty. SEAT BELTS

The second row seat belts will randomly unbuckle themselves while the car is in motion. As parents this is extremely concerning to us and we are worried about the safety of our children in the event of an accident.

POWER TRAIN

When you were at a complete stop and go to make a turn, the backend makes a clunking noise it almost hesitates like it’s having a hard time going and feels like it wants to lock up. I brought it to the dealership. They told me it was my tires and I needed an alignment. I brought it to a tire shop. I got an alignment. They told me it was not my tires. They believe it to be a differential.

SERVICE BRAKES

On July 16, 2025 in stop and go traffic on I55 the cra failed to stop at 5mph. The road was bumpy on an overpass. I attempted to stop the car. The brake pedal was hard and would depress. The accident avoidance system kicked on right before it was about to hit the car in front of me and stopped the car. After that the car braked fine. It did again on July 22, 2025 on a bumpy road. It felt like the car couldn't tell it was suppose to stop on the bumpy road. Almost ran a red light into oncoming traffic as the car only stopped once the road was no longer bumpy. That is hard when living in the Chicago area and the roads are terrible. Dealership claims there is nothing wrong with the car.

I recently purchased a Hyundai vehicle and discovered that the previous owner still has full access to the vehicle’s Bluelink system. This includes remote start/stop, vehicle tracking, horn/lights, and other controls. Despite contacting Hyundai support and proving ownership, they still have not revoked or disabled this access. I am unable to override or reset the system myself. This poses a serious safety concern, because an unauthorized individual can: •Remotely disable the vehicle while in motion or parked, •Track my exact real-time location, or •Manipulate vehicle functions without my knowledge or consent. This is not a one-off issue. Hyundai has no effective system in place to guarantee owner control or revoke prior access, which leaves other buyers vulnerable too. This constitutes a design flaw in connected vehicle control systems, not just an isolated customer service problem.

VISIBILITY/WIPER

Sun roof exploded and there is a football sized hole in the roof.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

The way this vehicle is designed, the angle of the lower screen that controls the ac is at the perfect angle to blind its drivers at times of sunset and sunrise and even some times between the two. This can happen no matter which cardinal direction you are traveling. I am blinded on a curvy road I drive every day to pick up my child to school. Its to the point where I have to completely cover the lower controls due to this reflective blinding.

SUSPENSION

Rear shocks keep breaking and needing to be replaced. Vehicle has about 35,000 and is about to go into the dealership for it 7th and 8th rear shocks in the last 9 months. If I was not vigilant about looking out for this problem, it would create an extremely unsafe vehicle on the road. This seems to be a common issue with the vehicle and the dealership even admitted it. There is a flaw in this OEM part and Hyundai has not recognized the problem to create a more reliable replacement part. The first instance of replacement was Oct 2024, the second was early June 2025. It is now the end of June 2025 and I have to bring the vehicle back again for more rear shocks.

It felt like the break was not releasing. Yesterday leaving my driveway we slowed down and both rear tires felt like you were dribbling a ball. As if the breaks were going on and off. It was less than 15 seconds but it was scary. I read an article where in other states other Palisades are having the same issue and they were not repaired. It has to do with the abs per the article. No warning signs pop up on my dashboard. I'm glad I don't drive fast. I'm worried something worse can happen. I did not report to police there was no accident.

SUSPENSION

Both rear shock absorbers have failed. Right side failed at 5,200 miles and was replaced 5,418 miles. Left side failed at 18,164 and was replaced also at that time. Currently the vehicle has 21,200 miles and both right and left side shock absorbers have failed again. Dealer is aware and has not admitted the shocks are of poor quality, yet it is obvious. I am searching for an aftermarket brand but none is available at this time. I will have the dealer replace both soon again. My concern is when there are failures in suspense this can: Reduced braking efficiency, Tire wear, Loss of handling and control, and Increased wear on other suspension parts.

We were in slow traffic, stop and go…and my wife went to stop and the car started pulsating and the brake pedal did not work. I checked online and there are reports of this issue and there are no recalls for our car. This was not anyone’s imagination and she had to pull/turn the car to the right to plan on avoiding hitting the car in front of us…as it was pulsating.

VISIBILITY/WIPER

I was driving down the street in my neighborhood and heard an extremely loud explosion. I pulled over to check that it wasn’t the tires and that there wasn’t anything on the street. As i pulled into my driveway i heard rattling on the roof, i got out the car to check and saw that the sunroof was shattered and there was shards of glass everywhere. There did not appear to be any impacts though, just shattered glass. I had the sunroof shade closed so no glass fell on me, thank God.

STEERING

Steering does a loud thud as if you have hit a curb when you are starting to move the car when auto start stop is engaged. does not do it when at speed but does it on every signal stop and go making a turn.

SERVICE BRAKES

At 2:38 pm on Thursday, April 17th, I was driving southbound on a street and I had just picked up my daughter from school. There were a lot of cars since school just got out. I was behind a car approaching a light going less than 10 miles an hour and braking lightly, then all of a sudden, the ABS system kicked on and my car jerked and vibrated violently forward for about 5 seconds and would not stop. I thought I was going to hit the car in front of me. Finally, I felt the brakes work normally and was able to come to a complete stop. There were no collision warnings or beeps even though I was very close to the car in front me.

SEAT BELTS

The front passenger seatbelt will randomly release after being securely latched. Has happened at least 20 times. Happens when driving smooth, happens if I slam the brakes. Extremely dangerous and I took to the Hyundai garage and they wouldn’t do anything to fix it.

Second row seat belts become unlatched randomly while driving. They have been confirmed "clicked in" and tug tested each time. During driving, the seat belt unlatched indicator comes on and we have to pull over and re- latch the belt. Service technicians have been unable to reproduce the problem, likely as they cannot have 3-7 people ride in the car for hours to verify.

This is a known issue happening to Palisades and Hyundai isn’t acknowledging the issue. A braking issue has been going on for a while but hadn’t become a safety concern for me until this month. As I was slowing to stop, the ABS issue occurred. I braked as hard as I could but continued to get the push back/the automatic pumping action of the ABS system and continued moving forward. The car was shaking as well. I continued pushing the brake/attempting to get the brake to engage the entire time, and my car finally stopped, mere inches away from rear ending the car stopped in front of me. I was slowing at a safe distance and would have stopped at more than a safe enough distance away if my car had let me stop. Now I’m deathly afraid of hitting a bump or some sort of uneven road when I need to stop and my car not stopping and hitting someone else, something else, or losing further control of the vehicle. No lights came on or any noises made to indicate a system was activated. My car also didn’t warn me of a possible collision and didn’t stop on its own, as it’s capable of doing. It’s as if the ABS issue overrode everything and my car just wouldn’t brake. I’ve never experienced anything like this with any other vehicle, driving on the same exact roads.

My seatbelt (driver) repeatedly and randomly opens. This has occurred on multiple occasions and with different drivers, and occurs even when the seatbelt is entirely buckled/clicked in.

The seatbelts will come unlatched after they have been buckled without notice. It happens to the drivers seatbelt as well as the passenger seatbelt and the seatbelts in the second row. It has been happening for over a year and has happened several times.

Front driver and passenger as well as second row driver and passenger seat belts have spontaneously unbuckled while we are driving- several times. No one was injured but it puts myself and my family at a huge safety risk. We have almost stopped driving it because we fear the belts will not hold up should an accident of some sort happen. There were no warnings before it happened any time. The second row seatbelt warning light did come on after seat belts unbuckled. This has been going on since November 2024.

SERVICE BRAKES

On Friday, February 14. 2025 at approximately 9:05 am I was leaving a parking lot to make a right hand turn on to a busy three lane road. Since this issue with the brakes has occurred three times previously I make it a point to drive no more than 10 mph in parking lots. The pavement was dry, then there was a 3 foot patch of thin ice, then the pavement was dry to the stop sign at the road. I pressed the brake pedal well in advance of the patch of ice and once the tires contacted the ice, the brake pedal pulsated harshly causing my vehicle to shake. This situation caused me to be unable to stop at the sign and I almost got broadsided. This is the third complaint I’ve filed regarding this matter. This is the fourth occurrence of the brakes acting in an abnormal manner (since June 2024) and whatever is occurring is terrifying. The dealership claimed it couldn’t replicate the issue and no warming sounds or lights appeared on my dashboard. I fear for my life, my spouse and children’s lives, as well as pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists. Someone is going to get seriously injured or potentially killed because of this issue, therefore, I have to petition the agency to look into this matter in depth and hopefully open an investigation.

SEAT BELTS

The buckle on the seatbelts in both the passenger side and behind the passenger side in the 2nd row doesn't latch. Sometimes it takes 4/5 times to click the seatbelt in before it latches. It also will randomly unlatch. VERY unsafe to be always using seatbelts, only to have them not be trusted due to un latching. It happens multiple times a week, and has been going on since Summer 2024.

SUSPENSION

Vibrations on the rear side started happening last October 2024. Seats were shaking while driving. In addition to the rough ride, Clunk and rattling are heard while going over small bumps. Took it to dealer Feb 10, 2025, and tech found rear shock mounts are bad. The write up also said they replaced the shocks. It was all under warranty. Vehicle is only 13K miles, and suspect/concerned that the replacement may not last long too. Please investigate for possible recall.

SERVICE BRAKES

ABS system is engaging on gravel road when coming to a stop at 20-25mph. Brakes don’t work and vehicle starts shaking. Hyundai dealership is saying there are no issues but this has happened periodically 4-5 times.

The front seat belt has unbuckled on it’s own at multiple occasions, the system does alert of the unbuckling but it is a safety hazard if we get into a car accident. It happens randomly without any warning. We did not get it inspected yet

Passenger side wiper stopped working after being stuck by ice/snow. Won’t work unless assisted

My Ongoing Car Leak Issue Ongoing issues in my vehicle’s moon roof. •Late September 2024: I first noticed water leaks in the front and rear of the moon roof. •[XXX]: Took to Wilson County Hyundai. They claimed to find no leaks. •[XXX]: The leak was evident again. I took it back; they acknowledged a factory defect in a drain tube and claimed to have repaired it. •[XXX]: I took it to a different dealership “Hickory Hollow Hyundai”, They were unable to replicate the leak. They suggested I record a video of it during the next rain event. So I did on [XXX]. See: [XXX] •December 11th: Frustrated with the lack of progress, I filed a formal complaint with Hyundai Customer Service, receiving case number #[XXX]. Hickory Hollow Hyundai then then told me to bring the car back in for repairs. As of Jan 16th: •Hyundai of Hickory Hollow said it was fixed and allowed me to come pick up the vehicle. They also said they had tested it thoroughly and there is no longer a leak. I brought the vehicle home and waited for the next rain so I could see for myself. As of January 27: •It rained less than .25 inches last night, but when I drove the vehicle this morning it leaked in both the front and rear. I did make a video of the leak, which is at: [XXX] As of February 1: •It has been 115 days since I first took the vehicle in for a leak repair. •There have been four (4) repair attempts and more leakage. •This has caused a very dangerous situation for my family. Hyundai has virtually done nothing that corrected the problem. Nor have they responded to my requests for a resolution. •I have full documentation on all the above. ENGINE

The first time this happened I was at a light waiting for it to turn green. My car went into a shutdown mode and gave me a message of " Auto Stop is Off. Shift to P or N Start Engine Manually". I tried repeatedly to restart the car after putting it into park, but it wouldn't respond. Finally, after 5 minutes of sitting blocking traffic, the engine started, and I drove away. This has now been happening off and on for 3 days. I cannot be stranded in a 50 mile an hour zone blocking traffic. It's an accident waiting to happen. After doing some research online I discovered this has been happening to Hyundai vehicles of different models for over 8 years! Why has Hyundai not recalled this? I think it's a manipulation to force you into one of their shops. I contacted several Hyundai dealerships to speak with someone who knows of this issue. One service manager told me it sounds like it needs a computer update. I ask the cost, and he said $260 and that does not guarantee it will fix the problem.

Repeated issues of rear self leveling shocks/suspension noise

ENGINE

In Snow Mode, I was at a complete stop and then pushed on the gas pedal to go, the car did not accelerate. I pumped the pedal, still nothing. The car moved slowly like it was in neutral, but would not accelerate. I was trying to turn left at an intersection, it was very scary. I could have gotten rear ended or T-boned. The car finally moved when I changed the driving mode to Smart Mode. The exact scenario has happened several times to me and my husband when driving in snow mode. It happens from a full stop.

VISIBILITY/WIPER

AFTER REMOVING snow from my windshield, the left (driver's) side wiper is not moving. I'm trying to make an appointment with Key Hyundai of Milford, CT - the dealer does not have an appointment until February. This is a real safety issue.

POWER TRAIN

11/16/2024: I was at a complete stop at a stoplight waiting for it turn green so I could turn left. When the light turned green, I pressed on the accelerator and made it about half way through the intersection when I noticed that the car had stopped accelerating but could hear and see the RMPs going up. I looked down to see if I had accidentally put it into neutral, but the DRIVE light button was still lit up. Luckily, I was close to my destination and was able to roll into the parking lot without getting trapped by traffic. I turned my car off and when I came back to it, it started and everything seem normal. 12/20/24: I drove to my office to pick up packages to mail. Then I was going to run a few errands with my mother-in-law before my 10:15 am appointment for an oil change at my Hyundai dealer. As we were turning left out of my office across 2 lanes of traffic, my car did the same thing it had done in November. This time, I had traffic approaching me from both directions. My car had enough inertia to finish the turn, but it would not respond to the accelerator. Both my mother-in-law and I were trying to figure out what was going on because she could feel it and noticed the RPMs going up without any acceleration. We intentionally looked at the "drive" button to make sure neither of us had somehow knocked into neutral. The cars coming up from behind ended up passing me on the right. Eventually, maybe 15-30 seconds later, my car "kicked back into gear" and we were able to drive normally. I took the car directly to the dealer. Told them what had happened and asked for a loaner car until they had figured it out. I had the loaner car for about 5 days and the dealership said they couldn't replicate the problem. They told me to try video it if it happens again. I laughed nervously and asked which part they wanted me to video tape while driving??? It has not happened again, but seems to have happened with other Palisades.

Second row seat belts come unlatched while driving. This has happened multiple times. 2 times this week, once for each seat.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

I made a U-Turn and coming out of the turn I stepped in the gas and nothing happened; however, the engine was racing and held steady at 3,000 RPMs. The vehicle did NOT respond after multiple attempts at stepping on the gas pedal or simply stepping off the gas pedal - the engine/transmission was racing loud at 3,000 RPMs for about 7-10 seconds until the vehicle corrected itself. This is obviously a safety issue since I had no ability to accelerate and could have been rear-ended. I went to AutoZone and ran OBD diagnostics and nothing showed up. I then made appt at Dealership with the description above and they recorded the incident as "a hesitation issue", then said it was due to the Auto-Start being on! WHAT!? I was not happy and made them read the description AGAIN and now writing this NHTSA safety issue. I feel like they purposely mis-recorded the issue and tried to send me on my way. Recent snow in North East - removing snow and clearing windshield AFTER REMOVING snow from my windshield, the left (driver's) side wiper is not moving. Called Key Hyundai of Milford, CT - the dealer does not have an appointment until February. This is a real safety issue.

The driver seatbelt and the middle drivers side seatbelt will unlatch randomly while we are driving down the road.

The seat belt for the second-row passenger seat on the driver side frequently comes unbuckled. This sometimes happens within minutes of buckling it and sometimes over 20 minutes later. My daughter is in a booster seat, and this happens regardless of whether I buckle her in or she buckles herself in. Even when I buckle her in and then pull hard on the belt to check that it is fully buckled, the seat belt still sometimes comes unlatched. The driver seat belt has also come unlatched several times when I am driving, also within minutes or long after I have buckled myself in. Yes, this is available for inspection upon request. My safety and my children's safety is obviously at risk if we cannot trust our seat belts to remain latched. The problem has not yet been inspected, reproduced, or confirmed by any third parties. There are no warning signals prior the belts unbuckling; the "seat belt unbuckled" alarm in the car begins to sound once the belts unbuckle themselves.

VISIBILITY

The contact owns a 2023 Hyundai Palisade. The contact stated while driving on the highway at 65 MPH, the contact heard a sound like a shotgun blast. The contact opened the sunroof shade and saw that the sunroof glass had shattered. The contact started closing the shade and the center glass started collapsing inside the vehicle. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be inspected, and the contact was informed that the impact from a rock had caused the sunroof glass to shatter. The contact decided to take the vehicle to another dealer. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not repaired. The contact was informed by the second dealer that a claim would be submitted for the failure and the failure would be escalated. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,296.

After about 10000 miles, started to notice a thumping sound then it got progressively worse. The ride started to get rougher and thumps all the time. Dealer verified rear shocks bad and ordered new set. Now at 14000 miles and shocks still on back order. Was told that this is happening all the time and that the replacement shocks are the same as what came on the vehicle. This does not solve the problem.Soon handling will suffer.

While driving to work, the seatbelt suddenly unlatched midway through the drive without any pressing of the release button, and nothing close to it that could have pressed on it. This happened while moving (not stopped at a light). The cars seatbelt warning system started beeping to alert that the driver was not buckled.

ABS shakes when crossing over different terrains. Car does not stop as fast as it should. I am afraid for the safety of my family and other drivers on the road if I can't stop. I have brought the car to the dealer several times since I bought it new and they say they can't recreate it. The last time, they recommended changing my brakes. I brought it to a private mechanic and they said it's not the brakes, it's the ABS. Then I come to find out that many people have the same problem and some have had accidents as a result of not being able to stop. There are 2 class action lawsuits calling for a recall. Please make Hyundai fix this issue before there are deaths on their hands.

Reported/Confirmed by Dealer: I reported the issue to my Hyundai dealership, but they stated that there is no recall or warranty coverage for this problem. Inspection Status: The dealership acknowledged the issue but did not provide any solutions, leaving me to seek independent repair options. I have not yet involved an independent service center, insurance, or other third parties for inspection. Symptoms Prior to Failure: There were no warning signs or indicators before the crack appeared. It developed suddenly and unexpectedly, despite regular vehicle use under normal conditions. Additional Information: Upon researching online, I discovered numerous complaints from other Hyundai Palisade owners regarding the poor quality of the windshield. This pattern suggests a potential manufacturing defect that Hyundai has not yet addressed.
