2022 HYUNDAI IONIQ HYBRID Complaints and Recall Information
The 2022 HYUNDAI IONIQ HYBRID has 8 complaints and 0 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to the electric parking brake and Auto Hold warning lights activating improperly. Several complaints also describe sudden loss of power and engine or transmission failures requiring dealer repairs.
Common Issues
- Electric parking brake and Auto Hold failure. Warning lights illuminate and the system disengages unexpectedly, often linked to electrical shorts. Some dealers refuse repairs unless the lights are currently active, despite Hyundai technical service bulletin 23-BR-001H requiring repairs if lights are present in system history.
- Dashboard warning lights. Multiple warning indicators including engine and Auto Hold lights turn on suddenly, sometimes accompanied by dashboard beeping while driving.
- Vehicle shaking and stalling. Sudden shaking and power loss result in the vehicle stopping unexpectedly on the road, creating hazardous conditions.
- Abnormal ticking noise at startup. Engine emits ticking sounds leading to failure of the charging actuator, which requires replacement but may fail again shortly afterward.
- Auto Hold sensor faults. Yellow Auto Hold and EPB indicator lights activate immediately when pressing the Auto Hold button or even without user input, often triggering intermittent beeping alerts while driving.
- Electronic parking brake erratic behavior. The EPB warning light activates erroneously with Smart Cruise Control, and the brake system disengages while stopped, causing the vehicle to move forward unexpectedly and almost hit pedestrians.
- Transmission failure. Sudden loss of automotive power occurs, and a dealer diagnosis reveals a faulty transmission that requires replacement.
Owners dealing with repeated repairs related to the electric parking brake system, sudden engine or transmission failures, or unresolved dealer refusals may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting a consumer protection attorney specializing in automotive defects could help clarify available options.

The "Auto Hold and EPB" yellow indicator light constantly turns on, which, according to the owner's manual, suggests a sensor issue. When I press Auto Hold after starting the car, the light comes on immediately. Even if I don’t press the Auto Hold button, the light still turns on. Yesterday, after driving approximately 9 miles, the light came on again and began beeping every 7 to 8 minutes while driving.

On December 2nd 2024, I was driving my lovely 2022 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid to home. All of a sudden, my car started shaking and popped out the engine sign light and other lights on the dashboard. Car moved straight up to about a distance of 50 meters and stopped on the rod side. This incident happened on the residential street not on the Highway. I could have been killed if this incident had happened on the Highway. I feel I’m lucky and blessed because I’m alive today. But car is still in Hyundai car dealership under repair. Hopefully my car repair cost will get covered under manufacture warranty. Hopefully, the whole measures for the engine defects or improvements team of Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid manufacturing engineers may be taken relook or recall so that thousands if not millions of drivers driving Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid may be in safe in the near future. Thank you
