2022 HYUNDAI ACCENT Complaints and Recall Information

The 2022 Hyundai Accent has 2 complaints and 5 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report an issue with the passenger seat belt warning system failing to alert when the passenger seat belt is unfastened while a passenger is present. The "Passenger Air Bag" off indicator functions correctly, but no audible or visual warning activates for an unbuckled passenger seat belt.

The vehicle has five recalls addressing safety-related components. The recalls affect seat belts, seat belt pretensioners, and the steering column, involving risks such as injury from exploding parts and loss of steering control.

Common Issues
  • Passenger seat belt warning failure. The system does not provide any alert, audio or visual, when the passenger seat belt is unfastened while a passenger occupies the seat despite the air bag off light functioning correctly.

Below are the recall details for the Hyundai Accent 2022 that affect multiple safety systems.

Recalls
  • Seat belt pretensioners. NHTSA recall 22V354000 affects 230,233 vehicles. In a crash, the front driver and/or passenger seat belt pretensioners may explode, projecting metal fragments and risking injury. Dealers will install a securing cap on the pretensioners free of charge. Notification letters were sent on August 28, 2022.
  • Steering column bolt. NHTSA recall 22V311000 affects 2 vehicles. A bolt in the steering column might be unsecured, risking detachment from the steering rack and loss of steering control, which increases crash risk. Dealers will inspect and tighten the bolt as needed at no cost. Notifications were mailed July 5, 2022.

Owners facing repeated repairs or unresolved recall issues related to these safety defects may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting a qualified attorney to understand available remedies is advisable.

SEAT BELTS:FRONT:WARNING LIGHT/DEVICES

We have two 2022 Hyundai Accent SEL cars and both have the same problem. When there is no passenger aboard, the "Passenger Air Bag" Off sign lights up as it should and when there is a passenger aboard, the "Off" light goes off as it should. What doesn't happen is when there is a passenger aboard and the seat belt was not fastened and the car is being driven, there is no indication (either by beeper or dash light) that the belt is not fastened! This I feel is unacceptable and is clearly a safety defect and Hyundai should be able to possibly reprogram their system so a warning comes on to advise that the passenger seat belt is not in place. The second car with the same problem is VIN [XXX] . INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
