2022 HONDA PASSPORT

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:MASTER CYLINDER

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Civic, 2020-2023 Ridgeline, 2021-2023 Passport, 2021-2022 Pilot, and 2020 Acura MDX vehicles. The tie rod fastener that connects the brake booster and the brake master cylinder may have been improperly assembled during manufacturing, which can cause the brake master cylinder to separate from the booster assembly.

Risk: Brake master cylinder separation can cause a loss of brake function and increase the risk of a crash.

VISIBILITY:REARVIEW MIRRORS/DEVICES:EXTERIOR

Honda (American Honda Motor Co) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Pilot and Ridgeline, and 2020-2022 Passport and Odyssey vehicles. The heating pads behind both side-view mirrors may not be bonded properly, allowing the mirror glass to detach. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."

Risk: Detached mirror glass can reduce driver visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL

“Road departure mitigation system problem” is the error that comes up on the dash. The error shuts down cruise control and slows the car down unexpectedly. I’ve taken the vehicle to the Honda dealer in Tampa Florida where I purchased it and they will not fix the vehicle. The error is a safety issue slowing the vehicle down in traffic and a driver distraction triggered by the Collision Mitigation System and Roadway Departure System.

Call the dealer, they towed it to their shop and “calibrated” the Collision Mitigation front facing camera. This service was Completed but within the next 2 years, the situation repeated itself over and over But would always go away. The last time the system failed (with all of the bells and whistles) I went back to Honda and they informed me a replacement was required. $1500 later the front facing Multipurpose Camera was replaced. The car’s 3 year warranty expired 2 months before the needed replacement. The dealer told me that these cameras have been a significant problem, and are replaced often. The replacement camera has a different part number from what was installed on the car when built. This indicates that Honda knows of this problem, and has upgraded the camera but left it to the owners to replace if it is out of warranty (even 2 months). As a retired degreed Engineer, I think this is a significant safety issue….. to have all of the alarms activate while sitting in the drivers seat.

While driving and pressing on gas the car started beeping and started to brake. There was no obstruction in front of me to cause this. The break flashing signal didn’t come on. It just beeped and started to brake and then stopped

POWER TRAIN

The contact a 2022 Honda Passport. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The contact stated that the transmission hesitated prior to accelerating. In addition, the contact stated that while reversing, the transmission jerked into reverse. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was persistent during cold temperatures. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the contact was informed that the transmission was shifting normally. The vehicle was taken to another dealer for a second opinion, and the contact was informed that the transmission was shifting abnormally. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was 8.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

Auto has a known defect with headlight condensation ,Honda put out a bulletin sb 23-024 Stating they are aware of this issue.Vehicle had this problem at 38000 miles just outside Their standard 3 year 36000 mile warranty. This has happened with the cruise control set, or while under foot control. No warning of any kind show up on the dashboard. We have taken our vehicle to the dealership on May 15 2025. They could find nothing after polling the computer or on multiple road trips. This loss of throttle has occurred six times in the last five months. We will keep a written record of these events as they happen, and pray that nobody gets hurt or dies from this.

STEERING

At 62,000 a very noticeable gap in steering going left or right become present. As you turn the steering left or right before the tires began to turn a noticeable clanking notice like gears hitting. The action of clanking was repeating every move more noticeable in park while running and off. Same while driving at 30 and below. ASE mechanic stated it was the rack and pinion issue which could lead to a lost in control resulting in a crash. Dealer refuses to fix due being a 2022 not a 2023

The contact owns a 2022 Honda Passport. The contact stated that while driving 40 MPH, the transmission shuddered. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that the fuel injectors needed to be flushed. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the same diagnostic information was provided. The contact stated that the fuel injectors were flushed again. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 25,300.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

I was exiting a highway onto another highway. It was a pretty sharp exit to the right. The vehicle lost engine power, and I couldn't travel greater than about 40 miles/hour. The vehicle would not respond to my pressing the accelerator. Upon getting off the exit onto the next highway, I immediately pulled over and shut the vehicle off. I waited a few minutes before restarting the vehicle. Once I restarted the vehicle, it was back to normal. There were no further issues for the rest of the drive (about 90 miles). This has happened 3-4 times since I purchased the vehicle.

STRUCTURE:BODY

In February of 2024 my 2022 Honda Passport wouldn't let me reverse out of my sloped driveway. I realized the emergency brake must be frozen and sure enough as soon as it hit 33F I was able to release the brake and drive the vehicle. I figured just a little water got into the cable in the rear. In January of 2025 I found myself with the same problem with another frozen brake. I took it into the Honda dealership and after a week they found out there was a leak in the body seam that let water under the driver's seat and froze the emergency brake cables. According to the mechanic, this was either the result of a major collision or a defect. Since the vehicle hasn't been in a collision, this is a concerning defect that Honda has so far refused to cover, including the damage to the soaked carpet. Both times, I had driven for 3-8 hours in pouring rain on the highway. Unacceptable for a 2- year old vehicle to have this issue.
