ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2018-2020 Odyssey, 2019-2020 Passport, and 2019-2021 Pilot vehicles. Incorrect instrument panel control module software can cause the instrument panel to not display critical information, such as engine oil pressure, speedometer, and gear selector position until the next ignition cycle. Additionally, it can prevent the rearview camera image from displaying. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) numbers 101, "Control and Displays" and 111, "Rearview Mirrors."

First issue was I was in need of a transmission while only having the car for 1.5 years. I reached out to Honda corporate and I was unable to receive any help with goodwill. Secondly I am now experiencing issues with my alarm going off suddenly, and frequently. The dash board lights up and flickers. Upon doing research I have found that 2019 Honda passport has had major issues with transmissions, keyless modules controls and electronic issues. In addition my radio keeps going off and it says connection is lost. This has also been a very known and common issues upon doing research on the 2019 Honda passport There’s different dates for events. I will be able to email my invoice for my transmission

I was at a stoplight on a bridge in a left turning lane for ramp entry onto an interstate. I was going zero mph, with foot on brake. My auto idle stop was engaged. When the light turned green, I took my foot off the brake. At that moment my engine did NOT restart, instead my car stalled. Cars were coming up behind me going 45-50 mph as they saw the light was green. It was very scary, as I thought I would get rear-ended. I had to step on my brake, turn off car, then step on brake again to restart the car. I cannot trust the auto idle stop feature. At this point I try to always turn that feature off upon start-up. (1) to avoid the above situation and (2) to avoid breakdown of key components especially the starter.

I had 5 lights comes on 2 days ago. Airbag system problem, collision mitigation system problem, road departure mitigation problem, high beam problem, and adaptive cruise control problem. The dealership said that it was a camera issue and everything except the air bag issue is covered with my warranty. It’s currently in the shop getting fixed. Also currently has a recall for the fuel pump that they never have the part. Still waiting to see if they are able to get that part. This recall has been there since 12/2021 and they haven’t been able to get the parts.

Car does not restart after auto-stop leaving car stranded at times in an intersection or stop and start highway traffic. It will restart after putting the car in park and waiting several seconds. One instance I had to get a jump. After getting a new battery, it still occurred. Battery showed dead cells so had to get it replaced again (on warranty). Issue is still occurring when forgetting to disable auto-stop

The Auto Idle stop, turned off the car at a busy intersection, I was able to restart the car and took it in to the dealer. They installed a new battery, which has been working for about a year, then yesterday the AIS caused the car to stop again at a stop light and again today when I was waiting to make a left turn. Each time it has stopped it has taken longer to get the car to restart. This is a very scary situation when driving in traffic with my grandchild in the car. It seems unlikely that I need another new battery. The car only has 55,000 miles. I will be taking the car in again, but doing my research on this issue I find it is a very big problem with this model of car, so I wanted to add my issues to the count, so hopefully something will be done to solve the problem before there is a major crash.

Hello, I have put 3 batteries in this vehicle so far and it is a 2019 model year. In April, the car died while my wife was stopped at a light in the middle of town. I could not do anything...put it in gear..nothing...could not even open the door locks. I had to crawl into the back of the vehicle over the seats to get to the booster cable in very rear of the car. I was able to boost the battery and get it started after watching 100's of cars drive directly by me and around me while the car was stuck. It was a little dangerous. An automotive shop replaced the battery. the manufacture date on the battery is 2/25. My wife went the start the vehicle today...6-19-25 and the battery was dead again. There is something wrong here! I looked at the website for recalls and the only thing that comes up is the fuel pump recall which I tried to schedule several months ago and they did not have the part. Please make Honda expand this recall and make them responsible for this problem until we are sure it is fixed. This really should be covered at no cost. thank you! May 5, 2025, I took the Honda 2019 Passport to Bend Honda, Bend Oregon for three items. First an oil change. There were two recalls, MOST and the fuel pump. Neither American Honda nor Bend Honda sent any letter stating part were available. The workmanship appears as though a "PIG" worked inside the car. Mud, dirt, bits of leaves, etc. were found. There are some scrapes on the driver side panel from someone's foot. The windows were down when I received the car. It must of be left outside the dealership overnight because of a gasoline leak. On the way home I had to drive with the windows part way down because of the fumes. The Passport is inside my garage and several times I've opened the doors to vent out the gasoline fumes. The fuel pump is either installed incorrectly or the interior had a large spill of gasoline while removing the fuel pump. Could be the wrong pump? The fumes should not be this terrible.

Car won’t turn back on after coming to a complete stop at a red light or stop sign. It has happened multiple times and I have taken it to the dealership a few years ago and they couldn’t help me out. The car goes into neutral mode and I have to completely turn the car off and restart it. It keeps happening so I have to turn the idle stop button off when I plan to drive anywhere. It happens off and on.

I have had several incidents where my car does not restart after auto-idling at a stop light. When there is a delay in restarting, a warning flashes briefly that there is an issue with the collision mitigation system. On some occasions, it fails to restart completely and I have to turn off the car, open the door to reset everything, then close the door to restart the car. I have had it inspected by Honda several times and was most recently told it needed a software update, but it has continued to happen since the software update.

Description: I have a concern that I will follow-up with a letter via USPS. Imagine driving your 2019 Honda Passport on an Interstate, Speed Limit is set at 70; your speed is 75; you're in the middle of the three lanes of travel; and your vehicle suddenly decelerates and every warning the vehicle is equipped with start giving alerts in rapid succession. This is what happened to me on [XXX] at approximately [XXX]. What is concerning is that this exact same thing happened April 2023 and I was told it was the Idle Control Sensor. The dealership that sold me the vehicle was gracious enough to let me bring it to them for repair, without charging the full cost of the part but, labor cost I incurred. When a consumer purchases a vehicle, the second most expensive purchase in one's lifetime, it is implied that outside of normal and routine maintenance, the car has been assessed and inspected for drivability. Being that this is the second occurrence, I am questioning if this vehicle was thoroughly inspected for this issue? I had my vehicle towed to the Greensboro Honda Dealership, 3633 W. Wendover Ave., Greensboro NC 27407. Although my faith and loyalty to the Honda brand has diminished, the customer service provided by Ms. Karen was comforting and reassuring. She understood my concerns and was phenomenal in letting me know what to expect. Surprising for a weekend as, most employees are not wanting to work. The reason for this email is two fold, notification of the issue and hoping that Honda will take accountability financially and resolve whatever "root" issue(s) that could be cause. Thank you and if my life has any significance to you, I hope to hear from you regarding this serious concern. What component malfunctioned: The driver's side visor has malfunctioned and is extremely difficult to raise and lower. It's motion has become very stiff and requires both of the driver's hands to raise or lower it, which means that the driver must remove their hands from the steering wheel to utilize the visor. It is available for inspection as it is still installed in the car. Safety Risk: The malfunctioning visor is a safety risk to both the driver, the car's other occupants and other drivers as it requires both of the driver's hands to raise or lower it which means the driver must temporarily take their hands from the steering wheel while driving to operate the visor. Removing ones hands from the steering wheel can cause the car to be temporarily undirected by the driver which can result in accidents. The malfunctioning visor also creates a visibility hazard. As the visor is too difficult to raise and lower, the driver can be blinded by the sun glare that the visor would normally block. such a visibility issue can lead to accidents, especially if there is oncoming traffic. Inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others:? The dealership (Ziegler Honda, Kalamazoo Michigan) was asked to look at the visor to determine why it wasn't working correctly. They informed me that this was a common issue with this model of Honda and that the only option to fix it is total replacement at a cost of $300. Warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? The visor started to not function smoothing in Summer of 2024 and the problem has consistently progressed to the point that the visor is now extremely difficult to raise and lower and requires to hands to move. I can provide a video of the visor's operation showing how difficult it is to move.

This would not be covered by insurance and there is currently no recall in place to address the defect. This issue has happened three times. The first two times, I attempted to accelerate while driving on the highway and the engine momentarily lost power. I would say the events lasted 3 - 5 seconds. The third time, the engine lost power while I was driving on the highway and the vehicle never regained enough power to go over 26 miles an hour - with the accelerator depressed to its maximum limit. Fortunately, I was near my exit, so I exited the highway and drove the car 4 miles to my destination. This is the only time out of the 3 instances a flashing "Check Engine" light came on. I shut the car off, went to my appointment and then restarted the vehicle approximately 30 minutes later. No other issues were noted on the 3 hour return trip. This last event happened on [XXX]. I took the car into the service department at Ken Vance Honda, in Eau Claire, WI on January 29, 2025 and they were unable to find any stored codes in the computer related to the issue. The service advisor said he has heard of this issue several times. The estimate to fix the issue was roughly $850.00 with parts accounting for $501.74 I researched this issue online and found several references to it. The first is a post from a online group for Honda Odyssey owners. One post in that thread leads to another thread for Honda Ridgeline owners. Ever since I purchased this vehicle in April of 2024, I've noticed that the forward collision mitigation system seems to see and respond to things which aren't in front of the vehicle. It seems like this system is watching the lane to the left of my vehicle, more than the lane which I am in, which causes the over-reactions, (but also means that the adaptive cruise control is less reliable about slowing when traffic ahead of me, in my lane, slows.) This has only rarely resulted in brake activation. Generally, it's just the warning which comes up on the screen. This happens most times I drive it, and I just live with it. I have had it into the local Honda dealer (Ken Garff Honda Downtown) to be checked out, and they say it's fine.

The vehicle has made multiple abrupt emergency brake activations in non-emergyncy situations. Nearly causing a crash multiple times. It's my opinion this system is severely flawed and extremely dangerous - not only to me but anyone around me. SHAME on Honda for allowing this system to drive on our roads.

The Idle-Stop system engages as expected when the vehicle comes to a stop, but the engine fails to restart when I release the brake pedal. This leaves me stranded in traffic and vulnerable to collisions, especially in high-traffic areas like intersections. The car has completely stalled and remains frozen for at least 3 minutes. Instrument panel lights up and says to depress pedal fully and press the start button. Another message says something about being in neutral and then to put it in park. I'm doing what it says and I cannot get the car to start. I have a green light and I'm stuck in an intersection where opposing traffic has a green light as well. People are honking at me and nervous because of the unpredictibilty of my car. - Frequency: This occurs at least 1x/month for the past 65 months (lifetime of the vehicle) - Conditions: Occurs during normal driving conditions, typically in stop-and-go traffic. - Impact: This issue has resulted in significant delays and near-misses with other vehicles, posing a clear safety hazard. The vehicle has been evaluated by a Honda dealer regarding Idle-Stop system malfunction specifically on the following dates October 1st, 2020, February 2nd 2023, March 16th, 2023 May 11th 2023, November 7th 2024 and January 9th 2025. The vehicle was found to be in normal working order and multiple times I was told to disengage the auto idle stop (press the button) to prevent that from happening. There was a recall for idle-stop software update which failed to repair the issue. This has been a persistent problem and the above dates by no means reflects the only times that the engine fails to restart after auto-stopping.

Unknown component failure on 2019 Honda Passport. While operating the vehicle, the engine shut off and automatically placed the vehicle in neutral. The battery light appeared on the dashboard, and instructed, "To start engine: Brake + Push". The vehicle would not allow me to press the start button unless placed in park, however, the vehicle would not allow me to select park while the engine was off. After a few minutes, I was able to place the vehicle in park, but the engine would not immediately start upon pressing the start button. I then had to manually reset the vehicle by pressing the start button three times before the engine would turn on again. This issue has occurred three times over a span of three months. Once while I was parked. Once while I was operating on the highway, thus posing a risk being rear-ended at a high speed. And once while I was operating through an intersection on the main road, again posing a risk of being rear-ended or T-boned. During these times, the vehicle was rendered inoperable until it was eventually restarted. There were no warning messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the times of failure. It is noted the issue seems to present itself while the speed of the vehicle is decreasing. For instance, while slowing in traffic on the highway and on the main road. The issue was brought to the attention of the Honda Service Center on two separate occasions. Both times Honda was unable to replicate the issue or identify the component at fault. Honda stated that the vehicle diagnostics and computer system presented no codes or record of the malfunction. The issue remains unresolved.

The 3.5 engine is ticking (knocking hard from 1-2 rpm same engine that is in all the recall on pilots and other Honda cars! My car has 65k miles on it . Honda has it for a week they can’t figure it out and say it’s normal. I know my car and a loud tick is not normal! Honda knows these engine have issue and don’t want to fix it. I’m now out of warranty and they don’t want to do anything basically they want me to get stranded when it breaks down or I’m in an accident if my engine breaks.
