ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2018-2020 Odyssey, 2019-2020 Passport, and 2019-2021 Pilot vehicles. Incorrect instrument panel control module software can cause the instrument panel to not display critical information, such as engine oil pressure, speedometer, and gear selector position until the next ignition cycle. Additionally, it can prevent the rearview camera image from displaying. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) numbers 101, "Control and Displays" and 111, "Rearview Mirrors."

Risk: Operating a vehicle without a functioning instrument panel or rearview camera display increases the risk of a crash.

BACK OVER PREVENTION: SENSING SYSTEM: CAMERA

American Honda Motor Co. (Honda) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Odyssey vehicles. Water may get into the rearview camera mounting holes and enter the camera lens and cause a distorted image, or no image at all. Additionally, if the rearview camera view mode is set to top-down view, or switched from that view to another mode in a bright environment, the image may not display. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rearview Mirrors."

Risk: A distorted or inoperative rearview camera display can reduce the driver's view of what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

324196 vehicles affected

20V437000

LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LATCH

Honda (America Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2018-2020 Odyssey vehicles. Water may enter the outer door handle cables for the sliding doors. If this occurs, the outer door handle cables may freeze in cold temperatures, preventing the front and rear sliding door latches from securely latching.

Risk: A power sliding door that fails to latch may open while moving, increasing the risk of injury.

2020 HONDA ODYSSEY

241339 vehicles affected

20V066000

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2018-2020 Odyssey vehicles. The wire harness for the third row seat accessory power outlet may get pinched between the unibody and rear trim panel, possibly damaging the wires and causing an electrical short.

Risk: An intermittent electrical short could overheat the wire harness, increasing the risk of a fire.

2020 HONDA ODYSSEY

499344 vehicles affected

20V440000

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2019-2021 Pilot, 2019-2020 Odyssey and 2019-2020 Passport vehicles. Incorrect central network software programming may cause several errors to occur that can delay or prevent the rearview camera image from displaying. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 111, "Rearview Mirrors."

Risk: A delayed or inoperative rearview camera display can reduce the driver's view of what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

I’m have had trouble with the infotainment center since less than 5,000 miles. Supposedly it was fixed during a recall. I still have issues with it. Shortly after the recall was done, I started having all kinds of dash lights come on. Transmission system problems, adaptive cruise control problems, lane assist problem, emergency breaking problems, forward collision problems, and so on. All together, they are about 7 different lights. The rear air/heat no longer work at all. Every so often, I crank it and the radio is black. Won’t work unless I restart the car. Auto headlights no longer work. Side mirrors no longer adjust. Sunroof will no longer open. Interior lights don’t work. Automatic doors and trunk lift do not work. I can’t even lock the van anymore. When I crank it, I have to hold the key fob on the ignition button and press 3 or more times before it cranks. Switch batteries in the key fob and still no different. I paid a lot of money for this van after never having one issue out of my 2014 Odyssey. The 2020 has been nothing but a nightmare since a month after I purchased it. I will never buy or recommend a Honda vehicle to anyone. In fact, I will discourage anyone who tells me they’re thinking about a Honda purchase. I am now stuck with a barely working vehicle because who can afford another car in this economy?

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS

The front multipurpose camera has failed “due to internal failure” according to the service tech at local Honda dealer. The camera functions - lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, front collision warning, and auto High beam lights, have not functioned for the past month. The windshield was replaced more than a year ago and no other incidents caused the failure, so it seems the camera itself is the issue. My van only has 63,868 miles on it.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

The multipurpose camera in mounted underneath the rearview mirror stopped working. No apparent reason for the malfunction to shut the vehicle off while filling gas and then five different warning lights occurred, including issues with lane keep assist, adaptive, cruise control, automatic, breaking, and several other safety features no explanation for the failure when that vehicle was taken to the dealer and currently being charged $2500 for a replacement of the camera and labor associated with the repair. My belief is that the system is malfunctioning due to overheating, which is a design issue associated with the vehicle and isn’t something that I should be responsible for.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS

On [XXX], while driving my wife to the RDU airport, our Odyssey's engine failed to restart after an Auto Idle Stop (AIS) at a busy intersection in Greensboro. Instead of starting, the dashboard displayed a Collision Mitigation System Problem alert, the Drive ("D") indicator light started flashing, and then the dashboard displayed a "Shifting to Park: Apply Brake Pedal" message. We were stranded at a busy stoplight, at the front of a dedicated left-turn lane, unable to drive or shift to park as instructed. The only way to resolve the issue was to hold the Start/Stop button for several seconds to shut the vehicle off. And the vehicles behind us had to swerve around us because our malfunctioning vehicle was blocking the lane. This problem has recurred semi-regularly since [XXX], forcing us to manually disable the Auto Idle Stop feature on every drive to prevent being stranded in traffic. An independent mechanic found no stored diagnostic codes but identified relevant Honda Technical Service Bulletins (23-008 and 23-009) addressing similar AIS failures. A Honda service center misdiagnosed the issue as a faulty battery, but subsequent testing by the independent shop confirmed the battery was in excellent working order. The actual Auto Idle Stop malfunction remains undiagnosed. The vehicle and its Auto Idle Stop system remain available for inspection. This issue appears to be part of the ongoing NHTSA Engineering Analysis EA25-004. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

LANE DEPARTURE: WARNING

The Multipurpose Camera Unit failed in my 2020 Honda Odyssey. This camera is responsible for enabling multiple advanced driver-assistance systems, including the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM), Adaptive Cruise Control, and Auto High Beams. The component has not been replaced yet and is available for inspection upon request. The failure of the camera disabled multiple critical safety systems while the vehicle was in operation. These systems are designed to prevent lane departures, collisions, and unintentional road exits, especially at higher speeds. With the systems offline, I was at increased risk of collision or lane departure, particularly on highways or in low visibility conditions. This malfunction removed key layers of protection that the vehicle is designed to provide. The issue was confirmed by a Honda dealership on August 8th 2025, which diagnosed the problem as a failed multipurpose camera unit. They acknowledged that this malfunction disables all related safety systems. The vehicle was inspected by a certified Honda dealership technician, but not by police, insurance, or the manufacturer directly at this time. Multiple dashboard warning messages appeared simultaneously one day when starting the vehicle, including: "Collision Mitigation System Problem" "Road Departure Mitigation System Problem" "Lane Keeping Assist Problem" "Adaptive Cruise Control Problem" "Auto High-Beam Problem" These messages first appeared on or around the end of June 2025, and the systems were disabled immediately upon the failure.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS

The forward-facing camera and/or radar unit failed one morning while running errands, resulting in 5 separate ADAS system failures. With these safety features not working, our safety and the safety of others is at risk. We took it to our dealer and were told we would have to pay a diagnostic fee of $205, even though they clearly already knew what the problem was- based on the multiple complaints through NHTSA and various other forums and websites from Odyssey and other Honda model owners and across multiple years. The problem was confirmed by the dealer and they quoted us $2025 and we're still not sure if that includes just the camera and/or the radar unit, which is another $600 part. Other dealers have quoted only $1200 to fix the exact same thing, with others charging more than double that. The 5 separate warning messages scroll across our screen repeatedly and are very distracting as you're driving. With multiple electrical issues already in recall status by Honda, this is another one that they should be taking responsibility for and not dumping this defective electrical repair on their customers. Who's to say that we won't be in this exact same predicament 3 or 5 years from now if the part or parts aren't fixed! Definitely expect more from Honda... very disappointed and feel betrayed by the inferior parts they're passing on as quality products.

While driving at approximately 12 mph on slightly snowy roads, my vehicle slipped and made a light impact with the sidewalk curb. Despite the minor nature of the collision, the entire left-side curtain airbag and seat airbag deployed with full force, as if a severe accident had occurred. This deployment was unexpected and excessive given the low-speed impact. I have found multiple online reports of similar incidents involving premature or overly sensitive airbag deployment in Honda vehicles, which raises concerns about a potential safety defect. Concern: I believe this may indicate a flaw in the airbag deployment system or sensor calibration. This poses a safety risk and could result in unnecessary injuries or repair costs

LANE DEPARTURE: WARNING

For the past couple of weeks, every time I drive the car, I get a number of error messages regarding problems with the advanced driver assistance features. These include: "Adaptive Cruise Control Problem", "Collision Mitigation System Problem", Lane Keeping Assist Problem", "Road Departure Mitigation System Problem", and "Auto High-Beam Problem". A diagnostic check showed error U3000-49, namely "Control Module Internal Electronic Failure". I took it to a shop, they ran diagnostics and told me I needed to replace the multifunction camera in the windshield. It seems to be a common problem and is very expensive to fix, at more than $2000.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

Several months ago my wife was driving when the automatic brake system engaged when a car was turning in front of her. This engagement startled her and she felt the emergency braking was unnecessary considering the speed and distance the car was in front of her. This incident concerned her and made her lose confidence in the safety of the car. Then just recently we began encountering a almost consistent but sometimes intermittent brake System Error along with multiple trouble notices about problems with Road Departure Mitigation System, Lane Keep Assist System, Collision Mitigation Braking System, Adaptive Cruise Control, etc.. when using the car. We received an error code U3000-49 reporting an Internal electronic failure in the multipurpose camera unit. Online searches of this issue seem to be very common and concerning on how many are occurring considering this is a safety system. Our van has approximately 54,000 miles on it.

ENGINE

Engine recently began making noise and the car was taken into Honda. The dealer checked engine components to find the cause and recommended that we remove oil pan to inspect the issue because they assumed it might be engine bearing related. Before we could schedule the service I was driving with my family on the highway when we heard a loud noise and complete loss of power. I was able to move over avoiding other cars to reach the shoulder and come to a stop. The car would not start or go into any gear. Car was towed to shop. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The car has not been inspected yet. Currently at shop being evaluated. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Engine was making noise at the dealership when it went for service. There was no concern made by dealer stating car was unsafe to drive. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Was inspected before the car broke down, but currently being evaluated by local shop. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? There was an unknown noise coming from the engine, and dealer stated they needed to remove oil pan to diagnose the noise but stated it could be bearing related. The dealership did not say the car was unsafe or should not be driven. Before we could look into the issue more the car broke down on the highway.

The rear hatch will randomly close after it is opened. The hatch will not stop closing if someone is standing under it. Several times now it has closed while someone is getting something out of the back and you can not make it stop without quickly getting out of the way and pressing the button. Both, myself and my wife have been hit pretty hard on the head by the hatch closing on us. This is a HUGE safety concern as I have children that could easily be harmed by the sheer power of this hatch. I have had the issue inspected by an independent shop and was informed that it would need both new power struts at a cost of over $1,200! The van is only 5 years old with 75,000 miles! There are no warning lights, messages or problems prior to the failure.

The vehicle failed to start and lost all power, including hazard lights and brake lights. I had no way of indicating to other drivers behind me that the vehicle was disabled other than getting out of the vehicle and waving them around me. This happened while I was taking my son to school and could have resulted in us getting in an accident or causing another accident. Honda was not able to identify root cause and replaced the battery. ENGINE

Honda has been serviced at Honda of Ames #190 since 2022. 2023 - Issues with the engine stalling when it goes into idle mode at a stop. September 2023 – contacted Honda of Ames, IA dealer. They indicated it’s the battery which will need replaced. Took the car to Interstate Battery on 9/26/2023 where it tested at 12.5 volts out of possible 12.6 volts. Then took the car to dealer who insisted it was an issue with the battery. Replaced battery for $391. Problem continued. In 2024 there was a recall re: a known issue with the engine idle functionality requiring a software update. Took the vehicle in for the software update. Complained to the dealer that I unnecessarily spent $390 on new battery when that wasn’t the issue. They refused to refund any money. Problem persisted. On 5/21/2025 the car was brought into dealership for 100k service. I complained again that the auto-idle feature still stalling. Was told that it's not a universal known problem, they don’t have a fix that he’s aware of other than to check the battery. I explained we’ve been through this before and brought up Sept 2023 battery situation. He stated that the quick/handheld battery testers are not reliable; repair shops have “the big testers in the back” that are more reliable – that is what they will test my battery on. I asked if they could turn off the feature permanently and was told no. When car was ready I was told that the battery life tested fine. They did a software upgrade and I will need to drive it and just see if the stall issue continues. He repeated that it’s not a “universal known problem” and there was nothing further he could do. 7/5/2025 – the auto-idle has stalled twice since the service on 5/21/2025. Stalling in an intersection, at a red light, bottom of an off-ramp, etc.i s a serious and highly concerning safety issue.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The start/stop system engaging at a red light on a busy highway shutting the engine off. When the light turned green and my foot was released from the brake the vehicle would not restart. The vehicle would not go into neutral so i was stuck in the lane of a major highway. This happened twice before and Honda said they needed to reprogram the system. They did and now it has happened again leaving me and my family in a very dangerous situation.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Recently, my 2020 Honda Odyssey required a new battery replacement. Shortly after the battery was replaced, the front camera system failed unexpectedly. This failure has caused a complete loss of all safety features dependent on the front camera, including but not limited to: Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS) Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM) A diagnostic assessment revealed that the front camera system needs replacement with an estimated cost of $1,200. This issue arose without any previous physical damage to the camera or windshield and appears to be electronic or firmware related. According to Honda, this happens frequently when a battery is replaced. Context of Vehicle History: This vehicle has already been subject to 11+ recalls, which have affected various major systems and components. The accumulation of defects and the continuing need for critical system repairs is deeply concerning, particularly for a relatively recent model known for its family-oriented safety features. Owner’s Statement: Given the number of recalls and now a costly camera system failure that directly affects key safety functions, I find this situation unacceptable for a vehicle of this age and mileage (72,000). The loss of these features significantly compromises driver and passenger safety. I believe this issue may be part of a broader reliability concern and request that Honda (or the responsible service entity) address this matter urgently and consider full or partial financial assistance for the repair.

LANE DEPARTURE: WARNING

Our Odyssey has had mounting concerns w/electrical system. These are safety issues. 10/20. Work done related to electrical system-rear camera having issues. Left/rt rear door wires were replaced due to recall. Software update completed. Gage control module software updated-know issue.10/23: rear windshield wiper not functioning-electrical issue & pump malfunctioned. Idol stop was not properly working. The car would stall out at stoplights as lifting foot off the brake & attempting to accelerate. Battery was replaced at this time & the vehicle was only 3 years old-we were charged. Issues with our car are electrical related & are seeing many others with similar issues. 8/24-11/24: key fob batteries died. After batteries were changed, issues with the power windows began immediately. Windows would not going/up or down all the way and were sticking. Soon after they stopped working all together. Auto locks wouldn’t work & the gas tank latch had to manually open to fill the gas tank. Finally took the car in for diagnosis. Said the motor in the door was broken & needed to be replaced. We were not convinced that this was the real issue b/c the problem began immediately after the fob battery issue. Instead of new parts, the dealer glued pieces together & gave us a discounted price. This was & is a real safety concern especially knowing windows were altogether not functioning & we don't believe that it was properly addressed. 2/25: After snow/icy weather front passenger side windshield wiper dispenser/sprayer wasn’t working. Upon checking, discovered it had become dislodged. Adjusted the piece & reattached this piece into place. As soon as car was turned on ,right after reinserting the piece into place warning lights came on-all brake/lane mitigation lights. After diagnosis, said it was an issue with camera at windshield & the camera needed to be replaced. UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Rear tailgate doesn't open with keyfob or with switch on the back door. it had to be pulled hard to open in manually and pushed hard manually to close it. There are so many incidents reported on line for the same. The fix seems be a control board (Which gets bad due to water getting in the compartment (or on the board). We have talked to Honda - as per them there is no active recall on this.

Online forums show this is a pervasive problem with 2020-2021 Odysseys at around 50,000 miles. Took it dealer for diagnostic, paid $229, and told me it would cost $2,000+ to fix.

Subject: Urgent Vehicle Safety Concern – Sudden Malfunction and Safety Risk On [XXX], at approximately [XXX, I experienced a traumatic incident when my vehicle unexpectedly malfunctioned while I was driving home. After making a left turn on a green signal from [XXX] toward the Community, the car suddenly stalled. By God's grace, I managed to cross Woodbridge Avenue before stopping, avoiding a major traffic obstruction. However, it came to a complete stop in the middle of the street, creating a hazardous situation. After a brief pause, the car moved approximately 10 yards before stopping again, becoming completely immobile in the middle of a public road. Attempts to jump-start the battery failed. All warning lights turned on, but the engine would not start. The vehicle could not be restarted or moved under its own power. 911 was called, and police responded promptly to the scene. With the assistance of my wife, police officers, and local neighbors, a tow company was called to remove the vehicle from the roadway. It was then towed and parked in a nearby lot. This incident was highly traumatic and posed a serious threat to my safety, my family's safety, and the safety of the public. Diagnostics and expert assessments indicate the issue may be related to a manufacturer defect, which is deeply concerning given that this is a new vehicle. At this time, the vehicle is no longer drivable. I am seeking urgent assistance to resolve this matter with the manufacturer and to ensure that other consumers are not exposed to similar risks. The front camera has failed for apparently no reason at all. There has been no crash, no damage on our end. We turned the car on and all of the safety warnings came on. The dealership has inspected it and said the code is for the camera failing. Many warning lights appear on the dash due to none of the safety features working without the front camera. This has caused all of the adaptive safety features to fail. There have been no recalls yet, despite the recalls for the rear camera, and many other odyssey owners having the same issue with the front camera. We have reported it to honda and were told that it has been reported by others, but not enough times to issue a recall. It is expensive to fix and poses a serious danger to leave due to none of the safety features working. This is a manufacturing defect that honda is not taking seriously.

1) Infotainment system crackles, pops, and shuts off frequently. Will not come on sometimes until 5 minutes into the drive, meaning we cannot use our rearview backup camera. This was recalled in other models but not our specific VIN. 2) “Shutter grill problem; power reduced” comes on randomly even when just idling. 3) Sliding doors will bounce shut or not open all of a sudden! Both doors affected similarly. Turning off the power doors does not solve the issue, so we lose access to one side. There was a recall on sliding doors for other models but not our VIN. We are taking it into the dealer to investigate but this is a safety issue.

Auto Idle Stop (AIS) system. had many of the other same symptoms that people reported. our car would go into idle mode and then it would not restart. I would have to turn the car off I tried to do various things just to get it started again. this happened one time was the exited the highway and also happened coming out of a car wash location. I took it to Honda and they said because of the idle stop functionality the starter went bad and they had to replace that. I was compensated some money from Honda but I believe I was only done so because they knew something was wrong and I really believe there should be a recall for this. it is completely unsafe and very scary when it happens especially in the middle of traffic. our starter was replaced because of this issue on November 5th 2024, but the symptoms had been going on for that whole calendar year prior

The idle start stop feature constantly doesn’t work. When stopped at a light or stop sign the engine will turn off and when I release the break it is supposed to reengage the engine. Instead it stalls out causing me to have to put the car in park and restart the car. There have been several incidents where this is during rush hour traffic causing traffic jams. Sometimes I have to wait a few minutes before it will actually turn over. The car is 5 years old and I have had the replace the battery twice and I have been told that this feature puts a lot of pressure on the battery. Never can the dealership recreate the issue.

The problem was confirmed by the Honda dealership claiming there was an internal short that caused the issue. The component hasn't been inspected beyond this initial diagnosis. My family's safety is at risk with this malfunction in the event that we need assistance with breaking in an emergency situation, the vehicle can no longer take steps to prevent the car from drifting outside its lane and the high beams will no longer automatically turn off because the car can no longer sense oncoming traffic. I was stopped at a light at a busy intersection and when I went to drive when the light turned green, my van did nothing. It had turned off the engine when I stopped at the intersection. I tried to switch gears and it wouldn’t change. I was kind of panicking because I was holding up a ton of traffic and my toddler was in the backseat so I can’t remember exactly what was happening on my dash. I would turn the car on and off but I could not get it back into drive as the engine would not restart, but all of the electronics were still working. Finally someone offered to jump the car with one of those portable battery jumpers and that worked. I drove straight to Autozone to see if it was something their machines would pick up on but they couldn’t find anything wrong. The dealer also couldn’t find anything wrong. I believe this is related to the auto idle stop feature.

My 2020 Honda Odyssey died at a stop light while driving on 5/12/2023. The auto on/off feature caused the van to turn off at a stop light and then there was not enough power in the battery to start the car again. It had to be towed to the Honda dealership where they could not diagnose the issue. They said the alternator was fine and the battery charged up fine. So no root cause found. Then 6/26/2023 - I drove the van for an hour to the airport and back, parked it in the garage (engine off) for about 10 minutes, and the van struggled to start but did on the second attempt. Then on 7/7/2023 - my wife took the van to the store, came back home and parked it in the garage with the engine off. She came back 5 minutes later to leave again and the van wouldn’t start. The battery was drained. Now it’s sitting on a trickle charger just so I can take it into the dealer. On 7/10/23 - I had the battery replaced and the Dealer did some sort of warranty work to help and that corrected the issue. UNTIL it died again On 11/27/23, I had to get yet again another battery as the same issues began happening and it was deemed a “bad battery”. Throughout 2024 and now into 2025 I continually have the same issues where the vehicle will stutter but still managed to kick back on after an auto shutoff. I have been to the dealer countless times and they continually tell me there isn’t anything wrong. Something is happening that causes this - whether is an electrical parasitic drain or something else. I have heard that other vehicles this has happened to but Honda claims nothing. I also had a case opened with Honda on this that never went anywhere - Case #13952151 There is clearly something wrong and not being able to diagnose it is even more frustrating given the issue. If it drains while driving - I CANNOT DO ANYTHING. I can’t even put it in Neutral to move it manually because everything is electronic!!

I am filing this complaint regarding a serious safety defect that persists in my Honda vehicle following Honda's PGM-FI Idle Stop software update. Recently, I experienced a dangerous incident on [XXX] outside Washington, DC. My vehicle completely stalled in heavy traffic, leaving me unable to start my car on the highway. The vehicle would not restart for approximately one minute, creating a significant safety hazard as traffic moved around me. Of particular concern was that during this incident it is not clear whether or not the airbag system would deploy since the car was off. This is a major safety issue and, reviewing complaints online, I am not the only customer to experience this, despite having received the software update. This is not an isolated incident. The vehicle's auto start-stop feature continues to malfunction, repeatedly shutting down when it goes into idle. This issue is also causing significant battery drain, making the vehicle increasingly unreliable and unsafe to operate. Worse, Honda indicates that this feature can act up when the battery is low, but the feature itself drains the battery. You can turn the feature off every time you get in the car, but this is not a fix. I have been informed by Honda there is no way to permanently disable the feature. I strongly urge NHTSA to investigate this matter. The current recall repair has proven insufficient to resolve the safety defect, and the malfunction creates unacceptable risks for me and my family. This issue requires immediate attention to prevent potential accidents and ensure the safety of all road users. Please require Honda to implement a repair that allows consumers to permanently disable this feature. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Tailgate Control Unit failed due to water entering through the seals of roof seal which resulted in damaging the functionality of the tailgate. Failure to open. I noticed one day that the tailgate would not open (the back hatch). My Honda dealership got the vehicle in rather quickly (One week). Dealership stated they have never seen this and requested repairs of over a thousand dollars. After further research on the issue, I noticed that there are multiple class-action lawsuits with multiple law firms. This is not an isolated issue. However, I am glad that the dealership was able to get my vehicle in and fixed in an appropriate amount of time. The worry was that just one day, the back tailgate quit working and there was no manual way to open the vehicle in case of collision, fire, or water incident and used as an escape route. With multiple class action lawsuits on the same incident, I believe this incident needs to be followed up on. Solutions: Revist the type of seal Honda is using. Move the control unit to a different location within the vehicle so the control unit will not become waterlogged and damaged. Lastly, provide a manual unlocking and opening mechanism for escape out of the rear tailgate if vehicle is involved in a collision, fire, or water event.

Regarding my 2020 Honda Odyssey vehicle, there is a manufacturing defect which allows water to infiltrate the rear driver’s side body panel, where it comes into contact with the control unit for the rear power tailgate (a/k/a power liftgate). Once water infiltrates the control unit, it causes the power tailgate to malfunction. Many consumers have reported that the malfunctions include the tailgate opening and closing without notice and while operating the vehicle, the tailgate failing to open, and the tailgate failing to close. With the control module getting wet and becoming oxidize/faulty that also makes the battery work harder which causes the car not to start, etc.. Consumers are then forced to pay out of pocket for expensive repairs only to have the replacement control unit also prone to future failures caused by further water infiltration. Honda of Tenafly is saying this is not a recall and not covered. [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The contact stated that while driving during a snow day at approximately 15 MPH, the vehicle lost traction and crashed into a curb on the front driver's side where it came to a stop. The crash was minor. No property damage was on the curb. The air bags deployed with excessive force. No injuries were sustained. The vehicle was taken to a local independent dealer where it was diagnosed that an air bag replacement was needed. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was repaired cosmetically by the insurance provider. The contact believed that the impact to the curb was minor and equivalent to going over a pothole which should not have warranted an air bag deployment. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 93,000.

The power tailgate continues giving issues. I made the first repair about 1.5 years after purchasing as a new vehicle purchase. Now a few years, after the first repair, I', seeing the same issue. The power tailgate stops working and makes all the warning lights on my dashboard light up and drains my battery. During the last repair, the tailgate power unit was replaced as water gets into the compartment and causes damage. Initially it affected the driving assistance, the power steering system and lights as they were all acting up, with the dashboard full of warning messages, when the tailgate initially stopped working.

We bought this van with a clean bill of health as far as accidents and single owner prior to us. The car had a documented maintenance history but after 5K miles of driving it the active cruise control began to through all kinds of errors. I researched this issue and find that many more Honda owners with active cruise control have the same issue. A few customers say that they had their front camera replaced and calibrated for a cost of about $1,600.00 only to have the error show up again. I am writing this message to report that in my case I have found a work around. It’s not a permanent fix but points to Honda’s computer throwing a false positive error that is costing a great deal of money to Honda owners. On our van when this error happens, I force a diagnostic scan followed by a forced computer reboot and the warning lights are fixed an all equipment back to working. It’s horrible to read that Honda charges $1,600.00 to replace perfectly good parts in all their line without taking the time to truly diagnose their issues with ACC errors and do good to their customers. I hope this helps reach someone who can further investigate this issue with Hondas. In our family’s case we are lucky that I have an IT background and was able to find a fix for this issue without any costs to our family financials and avoided paying Honda to replace perfectly working components due to their lack of knowledge of how their equipment works. LANE DEPARTURE: WARNING

ENGINE

It happened twice this month already. Once while driving, the car lost power (as if engine was never turned on), and the gear changed to N so I tried to slow down, then the power came back on, and then I was able to shift to D and continue my trip. Second one happened this morning. It was on auto-shutting idle position and when I put my foot on the accelerator, it completely lost power again (I recently changed the battery and tested in the afternoon and all working properly).

After driving for about a minute, there is a beep and the brake system warning light comes on. Then the dash begins cycling through multiple warning messages - LKAS/ACC/CMBS/RDM - and will not stop. Now the repair shop tells us that the front multipurpose camera ADAS needs to be removed and replaced, and the ADAS calibrated. Including the fee to diagnose the issue, total cost is $2,980. Van has about 56,500 miles. We have already had it towed twice for battery replacement following similar symptoms, and had battery replaced both times. But with the new battery only 3 months old, it became clear the issue was bigger.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Infotainment system - while driving suddenly there is a cracking/ shrieking startling noise and infotainment system goes off shutting down ( network communication lost sign comes on) and the screen goes blank. No camera works. Radio and all electronic display goes off for a couple of minutes. Slowly, it begins to come back to life by itself in a couple of minutes. This happens randomly on and off. In last 4 weeks, it happened at least 15 times while driving. Honda dealership has my car for three days without a diagnosis or correction.

Vehicle was acting normally, and unexpectedly 5 warning alarms came in concurrently all related to ADAS features, creating confusion for the driver. No other abnormalities were observed. Vehicle runs and drives normally. All the ADAS features are disabled and the warning lights continue to display every time the vehicle is driven. There is no way to disable the lights and the culprit of the alarms is a bad multipurpose camera behind the windshield. Honda wants around$1500 (parts and labor) to replace the camera. A quick search finds this a common complaint amongst Odyssey owners and a recall should be issued.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL

__ The present complaint alleges as follows: 1. Honda has a defective design in the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) of all Honda Odysseys, models 2018-2023. 2. Namely, Honda has placed the RADAR behind the large HONDA emblem on the front grille. This causes the radar to give a "RADAR OBSTRUCTED" warning, which disables all Advanced Driver Assistance Systems in the car (Automatic Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning). 3. The "RADAR OBSTRUCTED" warning cannot be reset by restarting the vehicle or disconnecting the battery, requiring recalibration of the RADAR at the cost of $800 each time since it takes several hours to do (per Dealership). 4. The official Honda Odyssey Forum online has countless complaints on the same issue without resolution by Honda. 5. Honda has acted in bad-faith towards their customers since this defect impacts the vehicle's advanced safety features for which buyers incur additional expenses, endangering the lives of passengers. 6. Honda has acted in bad-faith towards their customers by designing a system that requires continuous and substantial expenditures without resolution because it is an engineering problem, i.e., the placement of the radar behind the large, thick plastic H emblem obstructs the radar. 7. I hereby ask that the NHTSA investigate this issue and order Honda to offer a solution in the form of a RECALL that permanently addresses the problem.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS

Several engine failures, starting one month after purchase in September 2020. multiple system failures (all on video) leading to very poor acceleration and operation. No compression in engine and only able to go 20 mph. White-Allen Honda made four attempts to solve the matter over the course of two years. The dealer has had the car a total of 120 days. Then end of December 2024 then engine began making a knocking sound and I was told it needed at new engine, to the tune of $10,000.00. Then I see a recall for a similar issue but only up to 2019 Odysseys. Please help find resolution for this.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS

While driving on 12/20/2024 the 2020 Honda Odyssey started showing 5 warning lights (ACC, LKAS, Collision Mitigation System Problem, Road Departure Mitigation System Problem, & Auto High-Beam Problem) on the dashboard, along with the “BRAKE SYSTEM” light. After these messages and light popped up, the cruise control would not work. The crash mitigation system would not work (automatic breaking). The lane assist would not work as well. All of these safety features would not work which posed a combined severe safety issue to my family while driving the van, and those around me on the highway. After parking the van, I Googled these messages and saw that not only was this an issue with my model of Odyssey, but with several of Honda’s vehicles which use the same Monocular Camera. After getting my battery checked to ensure there was no low voltage issue (to which there was non and the battery checked out okay), I took the van to a Honda dealership. The Honda dealership performed a “Express Service Multi-Point Inspection” diagnostic test and told me on 12/23/2024 that the Monocular Camera was defective, which controls all of the safety systems listed above. On 01/02/2025, the Honda dealership replaced the defective Monocular Camera, to which they charged me full price for the Monocular Camera part itself and the labor to put the Monocular Camera in the Odyssey. Once the repair occurred, ALL of the messages and lights on the dashboard have cleared and all of the safety systems mentioned above are now working correctly.
