FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

The vehicle would not accelerate while merging onto Interstate and it made a grinding sound. It hesitated for about 5 seconds and was able to finally pick up speed and merge. It is very scary when my vehicle does this.

The Auto Engine Idle Stop causes the car to die while at stop lights, stop signs, in the middle of intersections. Etc. when disengaging the AIS the engine stutters and then displays “Shift to Park” then it says to push the brake to start the car but it doesn’t always start up. Sometimes it requires opening the door. Sometimes the collision mitigation system turns off after as well. And the entertainment display turns off or says “No Audio”

ENGINE

My Van has only 110,000 miles on it. Yesterday I was driving my family home from a sports event my wife myself and my four kids. I got a flashing check engine light and was able to pull over, but it was an unsafe area on the side of the interstate. After sitting there for a while. we were able to get the vehicle to Honda. Honda is telling me that it is bad rod bearings. But that my vehicle falls outside of the recall that is already issued for bad rod bearings in a van that is the same year as mine. This rod bearing issue put myself and my kids in an unsafe position.

ENGINE

My 2018 Honda Odyssey (VIN: [XXX]) experienced a catastrophic engine failure due to a spun connecting rod bearing in Cylinder 4. While driving, the engine suddenly began making a loud knocking/tapping noise. I immediately drove the vehicle to the Honda dealer, and as I was pulling into the service bay, the engine completely seized. The dealer confirmed that the engine suffered a spun bearing in Cylinder 4, with severe crankshaft and connecting rod damage. The failed parts and metal debris in the oil system are available for inspection if requested. This failure occurred without any prior warning lights, messages, or check engine indicators. There was no advance notice other than the sudden onset of knocking just before failure. The defect caused loss of engine power and risk of stalling in traffic, which could have easily resulted in a crash or fire. This type of failure is consistent with Honda Recall 23V-751, which covers connecting rod bearing defects caused by crankshaft machining errors, and also matches the ongoing NHTSA investigation into premature rod bearing failures in Honda Odyssey and other models. However, my VIN is currently excluded from the recall. I request that NHTSA review this case as potential evidence that the recall should be expanded to include additional Odyssey vehicles. ENGINE

I have maintained 2018 Honda Odyssey regularly, getting it serviced when or before it was due. A month ago (at 90K) miles, we started to hear a noise in the engine. I took it to Honda and they said that I need an entirely new (rebuilt) engine. I did see there was a safety recall report 23V-751 regarding crank pins that were produced out of specification. This did cover some 2018 Honda engines, but my VIN was not one of them. Is there any possibility that this deffect could have effected other Honda engines of the same year? My engine should not be failing at 7 years and 90k miles. Currently the vehicle is not being driven until we figure out the best course of action.

POWER TRAIN

2018 Honda Odyssey gear shifting switch letters are rubbing off. This caused the drive to click wrong button as they do not have letters to identify the functionality of the each button. This can cause accidents. I see many online forums customers are discussing the same issue. [XXX] [XXX] / [XXX] [XXX] This is manufacture defect and please be kind to investigate it. ENGINE

The engine stalled while driving the 2018 Honda Odyssey van on the freeway. It happened while cruising on the freeway. Engine suddenly locked out/stalled after a loud 'thug' sound. The situation posed a high safety risk to the occupants. Luckily no vehicular accident occurred. The dealer checked it out and confirmed it is an engine problem. Their recommendation is to change the engine and charged the cost to the owner. Dealer said the problem is not covered by recall. Dealer will not specify the engine problem unless the engine is opened for inspection. There were no warning lamps and messages of the problem prior to the failure.

I bought my van used in March of 2025. within 6 weeks I noticed when accelerating my van hesitated about 3 seconds before going when I went to take-off. This has caused great concern . Last week it caused me a accident because of the delay in acceleration. Luckily I was not hurt but did cause a accident. I feel they're should be a recall to fix this after reading many complaints about the same issue.

The sliding doors will not open at intermittent times. Warnings will flash off and on about door error but not consistently. If there is an incident or an emergency, the door will not open. If there were an accident and the driver cannot turn off the power door switch then anyone in the back cannot get the door to open, they would be trapped. We have had one motor replaced already. We opted to do that because we had a newborn on that side and we needed to be able to get to her quickly if she needed us and we were unable to rely on that door. The other door is doing it as well.

SERVICE BRAKES

The automatic braking system beeped alert then applied brakes when I was going around a sharp curve, with cars behind me. Luckily they were far enough behind that they didn't hit me. This has been happening since I first got my Odyssey. I asked the Honda dealer about it if it was a defect and they said no that's how it work. I asked if I could turn it off permanently and they said no - I had to turn if off each time I turned on the car. Which I do most times but I forgot yesterday. I started turning it off regularly when it slammed on the brakes going around a curve some time ago bringing me to almost complete stop with car behind me. I probably should have reported earlier. I was in the car with a friend yesterday when it happened and she has a different model Honda and says it happens to her as well. I also am in a Odyssey Facebook forum and someone with a 23 Odyssey is experiencing it - I thought perhaps it was my year and they'd work out the kinks but it does not appear so. I was willing to give Honda a little grace on these early safety systems, but this looks to be an ongoing problem which is unacceptable. I'm going to look into a dashcam to record these incicdents. I asked the dealer because surely they would be able to see a log of when they automatic braking engaged? If not, they should.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

As you are driving the car, out of nowhere, you will hear a very loud chainsaw noise coming from the engine compartment that will last a few seconds, immediately after the noise the car seems to roll as if the engine is not in gear or there is no gas going into the engine even though you are pressing on the gas pedal. This has happened around 5 times over the last month. It doesn't happen every time we drive the minivan. This can be very dangerous as you can imagine that when you are pressing on the gas pedal as you are driving at 30, 40, 60 mph, and the car engine just seems to disengage for a few seconds. I took the minivan to the Honda dealership. They first said to change the transmission oil first to see if that fix the problem. They said if by changing the transmission oil didn't fix the problem then they would need to replace the transmission. Within the first week after getting the fluid changed the problem came back. The minivan is now back at the dealership, and I expect that the transmission is going to be replaced. The minivan doesn't have even 50,000 miles yet. No warning lights has shown up. The problem seems to come and go without any warning.

LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST

I In August 2025, I experienced a sudden and complete failure of the forward-facing windshield camera in my 2018 Honda Odyssey, which disabled multiple safety-critical systems. After having new tires installed at Discount Tire in preparation for a road trip, I started my vehicle and was immediately confronted with multiple dashboard warnings, including: •“Road Mitigation System Problem” •“Auto High-Beam Problem” •“Adaptive Cruise Control Problem” •“Lane Keeping Assist Problem” •“Brake System” I took the vehicle to a Honda dealership. They diagnosed DTC U3000:49 — Internal failure with multipurpose camera unit and informed me the only repair option is to replace the camera and perform camera aiming. The quoted repair cost is approximately $2,000. The dealer explained that this failure is “common in hot climates.” If true, this represents a serious design flaw. The Odyssey was marketed as a family vehicle equipped with advanced safety systems, yet a single component failure suddenly disables nearly every major driver-assist safety feature. This is a serious safety defect for several reasons: 1.Safety systems suddenly fail without warning. One moment the systems are working, and the next they are completely disabled. A driver relying on lane keeping, collision mitigation, or adaptive cruise control would be placed at immediate risk. 2.Known widespread issue. The dealer admitted this happens in hot climates, suggesting Honda is aware of the problem but has not addressed it. 3.Unreasonable repair cost. A vital safety component should not have a built-in failure mode tied to environmental conditions, forcing owners to pay thousands out of pocket for safety-critical repairs. 4.Loss of federally encouraged safety features. Forward collision mitigation and lane departure warning systems are strongly promoted by NHTSA itself. Their failure removes protections drivers expect when purchasing the vehicle. This issue appears to be a common defect in Honda Odyssey vehicle

Engine has been running very rough the last 20k miles, and East Coast Honda in Surfside Beach, SC noted engine bearing wear prior to the rough engine performance during a service visit in May 2023. In June-July 2025 driving on [XXX] driving between Washington D.C. and Surfside Beach, SC, we went to pass and the engine cut RPM's drastically and went into 'limp mode' nearly causing an accident with the sudden decrease in speed. We have asked American Honda Customer Service [800-999-1009] to provide an engine evaluation but they have declined and have stated our VIN is not included in the rod bearing recall/TSB. We did mentioned about the further investigation for 2018 Honda Odyssey's but was advised any action we take would not be compensated since the vehicle is out of warranty by date and mileage (73,000 miles). Several people have told me that they hear a banging or thudding heavy sound coming my 2018 odyssey engine. The sound frequency increases as the engine rpm’s increase. I have seen many reports that state that this symptom could lead to a total engine failure which makes the car unsafe and is caused by incorrectly machined crank shafts (oversized). I called Honda and was told there is no recall at the time ( 8/23/25). In my opinion there should be a recalled. There was not warnings presented. Another failure occurred when mice ate the fuel injector wiring. This caused the engine to malfunction . The cause of this failure I have been told was caused by Honda using wire with a soy based insulation which mice eat.

ENGINE

There is a recall on this engine, same year, same make and model, but not my VIN number, same problem as the recall. Honda NHTSA campaign 23V751000 On [XXX] my husband and I were driving from our home in Scottsdale, AZ to Las Vegas, NV. About one hour from Las Vegas a yellow light came on the dash. I immediately pulled off the highway and looked up what the light meant. The manual said to continue to nearest service location and add oil. I restarted the car and there was a very loud clanking sound and a warning of Emissions System Failure came on. I turned the engine off, called AAA and had the vehicle towed to AAA Las Vegas. In the late afternoon of [XXX] they advised us that the car needed a new engine. Also troubling is that Right Honda did not fully evaluate the engine, but charged $180. They relied on the AAA report and wanted to sell me a used engine, one year warranty, but could not tell me about the engine, other than mileage because it "was on a pallet." 1. Report from AAA 2. Right Honda Estimate for USED ENGINE 3, E-mail from Right Honda stating they could not tell me about the engine 4. FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS

In our 2018 Honda Odyssey EX-L, a few weeks ago 5 different warning lights started coming on when the vehicle was started and continued while the car was driven. Lane Assist, collision warning, auto high beams, braking system and adaptive cruise control. Just yesterday the rear hatch started to malfunction; currently the rear hatch can be opened and closed manually but the power lift does not function and now is the 6th warning on the driving display. The car was taken to a Honda Dealership for diagnosis, and after paying $99 for the diagnosis of the issues, several other diagnosis fees would be required to get to the root of the issue which the Tech states is most likely a control module malfunction due to a water leak. The fix would then be finding and fixing the leak, then replacing the module and wrapping the module in plastic to prevent future issues. Then more diagnosis fees to find and correct the other issues which could include replacing the multipurpose camera. -If a selling point of the driver assist, collision warning and automatic braking are safety improvements, by default if the system is faulty then ours and others safety is at an increased risk. -the vehicle has been inspected by a dealer -before a few weeks ago no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms were present. All of the symptoms have been rather sudden. We have been getting rain almost daily for the past few weeks.

LANE DEPARTURE: WARNING

The windshield-mounted front camera assembly (part number 36160‑THR‑A81) that powers LKAS, ACC, Collision Mitigation, Auto High Beam, and other safety systems has failed on my 2018 Honda Odyssey. When the camera fails, multiple critical safety systems become disabled at once, posing a significant risk to driver and road safety." Supporting Evidence from Other Owners: Honda Odyssey owner posted in a parts-related forum: > “The Honda garage wants $1.5K to replace the front camera, but I’m wondering why it catastrophically failed after 3.5 years and 30,000 miles!” A documented complaint filed with NHTSA highlights a very similar situation: > “All Honda sensing technology is not working… ACC, LKAS, Collision Mitigation, Auto High Beam… many warning lights appear on the dash… diagnostics… indicated the issue may be related to a manufacturer defect… dealership… said the monocular camera was defective… The contact… replaced the defective monocular camera, … once the repair occurred, all of the messages and lights… cleared and all of the safety systems… are now working correctly.” Costs: Owners have reported paying approximately $750 for the camera part and another $500 for calibration, totaling around $1,250. We have even been quoted $2,500 to replace the front camera. Safety Risk: The failure disables multiple driver-assistive safety systems simultaneously, increasing risk of collision — especially since these systems (ACC, LKAS, Collision Mitigation) are intended to help prevent accidents. Conclusion / Call for Action: Given the frequency of similar reports, recurring nature of the front camera failure (36160‑THR‑A81) in 2018–2019 Odyssey models, the high cost of repair, and the safety-critical systems that fail when this component fails, I believe this qualifies as a design or manufacturing defect. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate this issue and consider issuing a recall for affected vehicles.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Water intrusion, verified by observation/application of water. The leak resulted in water dripping on the Tailgate/Liftgate Control Module and the general rear cargo area, causing corrosion inside the control module rendering the control module inoperable, which made the power liftgate inoperable as well. Additionally, the rear cargo area had standing water that had accumulated over an unknown period of time that was visible when you lifted the carpeting. The liftgate latch mechanism also "locked" while the liftgate was open, making securing it closed in the normal way impossible. I would have needed to secure it with bungee cords or tape or some other haphazard way if I wanted to drive it safely on the streets or any contents in the back of the van could have fell out in traffic, or the liftgate may have inadvertently lifted at any time or place uncommanded, causing any type of hazard. Replacing the Control Module ($331.53) remedied the liftgate failure. However, the leak remains, and will allow the same thing to continue to happen. Applying water to the area where the seam on the drivers side body panel and the roof panel meet resulted in water being seen dripping in the interior of the vehicle and onto the liftgate control module. This area should have been made waterproof before the vehicle left the factory, and should be recalled to make it right.

The driver side coil spring broke on the lower end of the spring. It started to sound squeeky after a change in the road or a bump. 2 years ago, the right (passengers) coil spring broke in the middle of the spring on a main highway going 60miles/hr in another state from where we live. The car needed towed then and replaced. I filed a report with you then. No one was hurt either time but could have been. The springs have been on back order....2 years ago we couldn't get a replacement because they were on back order for 2 years then and needed to get a backup from a juck yard to replace. This time we still can not find a replacement in stock and are afraid the springs are not strong enough for the honda cars which is why they have been on backup and keep failing. So now they have been on back order for 4 years. My husband's car has springs bigger than what they put on the minivan. And with the part on backorder still...I don't think they are good or that Honda wants to replace them. We had to get springs from somewhere else to replace this spring....causing us to pay for 2 new ones to put on the car. Car is currently in the shop (auto shop) waiting for the parts to arrive from another state to replace. These should definately be recalled! I don not have a heavy family or put heavy stuff in my vehicle but someone is going to get hurt soon. Honda needs to take care of this safety problem and reimburse for all the coil spring problems.

We do not own the vehicle anymore, but I just learned of recalls for this issue and wanted to make sure I submitted this as our lives were significantly affected. In July 2023, on the way home from a trip, we began to hear knocking in the engine and shortly after the check engine light began flashing. We got to the closest mechanic, and they suspected an issue with rods due to metal filings in oil. We had it towed 2 hrs to the closet Honda dealership. Garcia Honda in Albuquerque, NM. After days in a hotel and the dealership making the repairs they thought it was, we were told it was ready to go, they just needed to do a test drive. On the test drive, the engine lights come on again, and on closer inspection, they too heard knocking, and diagnosed engine failure due to rod issues and told us we needed a full engine replacement. We were still 9 hours from home and had missed work for a few days, and being dejected and overwhelmed that we still did not have our car to get home, we made the snap decision to purchase a new car there and “trade in” the odyssey for the bare minimum. We mentioned to someone today that we had a Honda with engine failure, and they brought this recall to our attention. After researching, I wanted to make sure to get this complaint failed, to hopefully help others going through what we did.

Rod knock diagnosed and confirmed by dealership July 15, 2025. Van is currently at dealership and is available for inspection. I have paused work to allow Honda (case 15705425) and now this team the opportunity to diagnose and inspect first hand. Inspection and first hand visuals have only been completed by certified Honda dealerships. All warnings and my concerns are documented in our ROs with Honda dealerships. When any light or reminder came on, I immediately took the van to Honda for service. Safety: slow starts and sluggish acceleration. Noise that was not normal. Out to eat 30 minutes away from home July 13 and van wouldn’t start. Dealership thought initially battery but then kept van overnight and nod rock confirmed. Also repaired back suspension. Additional details: Problem has been reproduced and confirmed. Have been experiencing slow start, van not driving properly. Our family went out to lunch July 13 and van wouldn’t start. Waited handful of minutes and then started. Immediately took to dealership next day. Honda dealerships have done all servicing and repairs on this van. (I was told there are 55 repair totaling $22k for your research purposes.) Honda notified me July 29, 2025 that they will NOT offer any assistance and/or goodwill because of the age and mileage of the van. Escalating case 15705425 up Honda chain - we have been very loyal to Honda. As of today, July 31, 2025: Van sits at dealership; has been there since July 14, 2025. I have been advised not to drive the van, esp on the highway. I want to keep the van and want to drive it for many more years. Took very good care of it and followed all of Hondas recommendations for servicing. Just put brand new tires front suspension (March 2025) and rear suspension (July 2025) on it as well. Appreciate your investigation. I’m working diligently to do the right thing and allow the proper people time to investigate the van before any work begins on the engine.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond as intended. The contact stated that the failure has caused the vehicle to hesitate while attempting to accelerate. The contact stated that the failure had occurred on several occasions while driving on the interstate and the freeway. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the software needed to be updated and the vehicle needed to be driven approximately five thousand miles to correct the failure. The vehicle was repaired, and the transmission was replaced once before. The manufacturer was notified of the failure; however, the warranty department failed to return the call. The approximate failure mileage was 108,900.

I recently replaced a battery on the 2018 Honda Odyssey. When I turned the car on, the dashboard showed 6 issues: adaptive cruise control problem; lane keeping assist problem; collision mitigation system problem; road departure mitigation system problem; auto high beam problem; and the brake system light was on. I paid a mechanic to clear out the code and the was told that the front sensing camera needs to be replaced. Without a replacement, all these errors will continue to show up. I search online to find out if other people have had this issue because it was just too coincidental that a battery replacement broke the front camera. I found posts by many people who own the 2018 Honda Odyssey having similar or near identical issues that I have had. The cost to replace the camera and have it recalibrate it is going to cost $1,800.00 as estimated by a local Honda dealer. The Honda dealer told me that they have seen this problem over and over again.

They claimed the bad battery, bad wheel alignment but they were not an issue. The front camera was failed, and it costs $2,408 after their discount coupon. Same thing happened to my 2019 Honda Accord hybrid. I googled it and found a lot of Honda vehicles share same problem. All the malfunctioning come from the failed front camera and it could be very dangerous if it happened during driving. This is a serious safety issue and all Honda's fault. They provided the problematic part. I never heard the similar problems happened to other brands such as Toyota, Chevy, Hyundai, and more. All happened to Honda car. They provided the poor quality front camera and they charging fortune to replace it. That front camera costs more than 10% of my current car value. It does not make sense. I strongly claim Honda should recall their front cameras and reimburse all the expense we already paid. Thank you very much.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

I bought a 2018 Honda Odyssey new. When the recall for the fuel pump came out, I had it completed on the emergency basis because it said if you had been experiencing the engine cutting out, to call and get it completed soon. I had had issues with the engine cutting out. Recently, I noticed a loud engine rumbling and rough noise during idling and acceleration. I took it to a Honda dealership, and they diagnosed a failing high-pressure fuel pump that required immediate replacement. There were no warning lights. The most frustrating part is that so many other 2018 Odyssey owners are reporting the exact same issue. It’s all over forums and Reddit — people with Odysseys from around this year are dealing with premature high-pressure fuel pump failures. This is clearly not an isolated case — it's a widespread defect that Honda has yet to acknowledge. While Honda recalled the low-pressure fuel pump, they’ve ignored the high-pressure pump — even though it presents serious drivability and safety concerns. I am being forced to pay $1,775 out-of-pocket at a Honda dealership to replace this failed part. I’m urging NHTSA to investigate this pattern and hold Honda accountable. This is not normal wear and tear — it’s a systemic failure that deserves a recall and reimbursement for affected owners.

ENGINE

While driving Oct-Nov 2023 I noticed a rod knocking sound in the engine and made an appointment with Jones Honda, Lancaster PA for inspection in Dec 2023. While driving to my base in Horsham, PA on [XXX] the engine seized and shut down leaving me stranded with my family. We had it towed to Reedman Toll Honda, Downingtown PA and it was determined by the Honda technicians that it was the same issue that affected thousands of other makes/models of the same year. Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2015-2020 Acura TLX, 2016-2020 Acura MDX, 2016 and 2018-2019 Pilot, 2017 and 2019 Ridgeline, and 2018-2019 Odyssey vehicles. Due to a manufacturing error, the connecting rod bearing in the engine may wear and seize, damaging the engine. A damaged engine may run improperly or stall while driving, increasing the risk of a fire, crash, or injury. The technicians verified this is the same issue and we opened a claim with American Honda. American Honda claims that our VIN was not affected and that the technicians do not have the authority to claim it is the same issue and refused to assist. We have service records to indicate the vehicle was maintained, oil and filter changes, other recalls, etc. There is no reason a five year old engine, at the time, should have died without it being a manufacturing issue. This issue put my family at risk and the safety of others. The engine was maintained and verified by Honda certified technicians that it is a manufacturing issue that caused this. We have been talking to American Honda for over a year and half now and they finally closed our claim about a month ago, May 2025, with no resolution. The passenger side sliding door was generally having issues with latching fully closed. But even after managing to get the sliding door fully closed, the rear passenger sliding door partially opened up by itself whilst going over a speed bump. It seems to be very dangerous for a sliding door to even partially open itself while the vehicle is driving and in motion. I've asked Honda to look at this pursuant to recall No. 20V-437 (which would seem to be the issue described in the recall of the door opening by itself), but Honda is advising that I may need to pay for even the diagnosis out of pocket without any acknowledgement that the repair or diagnosis will be covered. Defect-Linked Electrical Failures and Refusal of Support – 2018 Honda Odyssey I am filing a formal complaint regarding Honda’s refusal to cover a known, dangerous defect in my 2018 Honda Odyssey (VIN: [XXX] ). My vehicle is experiencing electrical and system-wide malfunctions that directly match Technical Service Bulletin 21-013, yet I’ve been denied goodwill coverage, and I am being forced to pay out-of-pocket for diagnosis and repair. The problems include: •Ongoing, loud popping sounds from the speakers while driving and after shutdown •System power failures, with audio and Bluetooth activating before the key is turned •Low battery warnings without cause •Factory HondaVAC system failure, now showing “PWR SAVE” despite a running engine I am a parent of five children and rely on this vehicle for daily transportation. These failures not only distract and stress the driver but compromise safety, communication, and vehicle reliability. Honda’s decision to shift financial responsibility for a known defect to the customer feels unjust and exploitative especially as many others have reportedly received goodwill repairs for the same issue. I am asking for assistance in holding Honda accountable under Massachusetts consumer protection laws. This is not typical wear and tear it is a manufacturer defect with ongoing safety implications. There is a recall on other 18 model year vans for the rod bearing failure. This happened to me on my van and it has had regular oil changes and has around 139000 miles on it. This could have been catastrophic for the ones around me if I was driving on the interstate and the bearing gave out and hurt my family due to the engine seizing. The vehicle has not yet been inspected due to this just happening. I am not the only one with this model year having this issue and my vin not being covered by the existing recall. There were no warnings prior to the issue. Oil was always clean and changed on time. This vehicle has a good history report and records.

Driving on the freeway my lane keeping assistance, automatic emergency breaking, and adaptive cruise control warnings were flashing. The prompts keep my focus off the road as the beeps and flashing orange lights cannot be disabled. During my drive, the multicamera on the windshield seems to be malfunctions and often I would get a signal of on coming traffic and my steering wheel would vibrate to prompt me to move. This can be extremely terrifying and sometimes caused me to swerve, potentially hitting other cars. The multicamera needs to be recalled and fixed.

Honda issued a recall on the fuel pump December 2023. They did not have any parts available to replace mine. I had brought in my Odyssey Elite to Space Coast Honda multiple times before the recall stating my engine wouldn't crank. I was unable to get the fuel pump replaced until December 5, 2024. ONE YEAR after the recall. I am now getting Emissions System Problems and Stop Driving When Safe Engine Temperature Too Hot. The dignostics that were pulled were P219A Secondary P219A, P0420, P219A. Also, my intake manifold gaskets are leaking coolant. I have had nothing but problems with this van since April 5, 2023 with my car not starting and stalling. My kids and I were stranded at their school two times and there were multiple times at my work. I don't believe I should have to pay thousands of dollars for these items to be replaced since I believe they're an issue due to me driving on a faulty fuel pump. I even called Honda Customer Service multiple times and they told me to keep driving it even though I expressed concern for my kids and having been stranded multiple times. Both dealerships said there was nothing wrong even though I brought it in multiple times for the same issue.

Automatic Idle Stop function causes car to stall in the middle of roadways. Idle is initiated when car comes to a complete stop at intersections, traffic lights, etc. Instead of rolling back on, engine stalls and brake seizes up, causing us to block traffic in the middle of roadways, intersections, traffic lights, etc. Car does not restart when power button is pushed. Only solution that has worked is to completely turn car off, open driver door and pretend to be ending trip by getting out, closing the door, walking away so car locks, waiting 30 seconds, then reapproaching the car and starting over from the beginning. This obviously causes major issues in the middle of roadways. On one occasion, no solutions worked, the brake pedal completely seized, and the battery had to be jumpstarted, despite the fact that it was a fairly new and undamaged battery. Problem persists even after changing battery.

The vehicle would make noises and stalls during accelerations and decelerations. It would struggle to shift into gear, especially from 1st to 2nd gear. When the vehicle comes to a stop at traffic lights or stop signs, it's really hard to get the car to move when accelerating. In high speed on the highway, the vehicle would struggle to increase speed when accelerating and the vehicle would automatically slow down and get weighted down. This would result in having to pull over. Sometimes, the vehicle would not be able to be put into Park, and automatically shifts to Neutral not allowing it to be put into Park mode. When attempting to put it back onto Drive, the vehicle would not go and emission and transmission warning would start flashing. The majority of the time, the emission or transmission warnings would not flash. This is very frightening because I was not able to control the speed of the vehicle, and luckily when the car automatically shift to N and came to a stop, I was able to pullover to the side of the busy highway right on time. The car has been inspected for the same issues in the last 3-4 years by the dealership for the same problem. The transmission fluid got changed and that was all. Now it's happening again.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

My tailgate stopped working, I was getting messages on my dash board that there was transmission system problems, reverse warning problems, keyless entry system problems. It always seemed to happen after a rain. I found that the van is leaking water through the driver’s side roof rack gully, near the back, and water is leaking right on the tailgate control system, causing all these other problems. It is also causing the battery to drain when car is parked idle. There should be recall to fix the leakage and replace the controller. It's a design defect, water shouldn't sip inside and burn the electrical components. Costing me hundreds/thousands. This is also safety issue because water damaged controllers causing issues with ADAS components too - getting check engine, break lights, etc. while the car is in motion. If those safety features are not working, that can be very dangerous. Thanks

AIR BAGS

While driving my 2018 Honda Odyssey at approximately 35-40 mph on a regular city road, the passenger-side front airbag deployed suddenly and without any impact or external trigger. The road was clear, traffic was light, and no collision occurred before, during, or after the event. The airbag deployment was abrupt and loud, startling me and posing a serious safety risk to both myself and my passenger. Immediately after pulling over, I conducted a visual inspection of the vehicle. There was no damage to the front bumper, fender, windshield, or undercarriage, and no sign of impact or obstruction. The dashboard did not display any warning lights prior to or immediately after the event. I took the vehicle to an authorized service center, where they confirmed that no diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) were stored and no mechanical fault could be identified. Despite my efforts to escalate the issue, Honda has declined to offer any support or written findings, stating they cannot assist if there is no identifiable cause. My insurance provider, State Farm, denied the claim as well, citing the absence of a collision. As of now, I am left with an unsafe vehicle, unexpected repair costs, and no accountability from the manufacturer or insurer. This incident could have resulted in serious injury if my passenger had been present, and I am extremely concerned about the safety implications for other Honda Odyssey owners. I am submitting this report in hopes that NHTSA investigates this potential safety defect. I’m willing to provide full documentation, photographs, and service records upon request.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

I recently began hearing a strange noise when starting the engine of my 2018 Honda Odyssey Elite. While driving, I also noticed reduced acceleration and a change in engine sound when pressing the accelerator, indicating a performance issue. I took the vehicle to an authorized Honda dealership, where they diagnosed the problem as a malfunctioning fuel pump and recommended a full replacement. I am aware that Honda has issued fuel pump recalls affecting a number of vehicles, including some 2018 Odyssey models. However, when I checked my VIN, it showed no active recalls. Despite experiencing the exact symptoms associated with the recalled fuel pumps, I am being asked to cover the full cost of replacement—approximately $1,700—including parts and labor. I believe this may be the same defect covered under the broader fuel pump recall and request that Honda reevaluate whether my vehicle should be included. I am requesting either coverage of the repair under warranty or a goodwill repair to address what appears to be a known issue.

After removing passemger side inner door panel to inspect, found rear latch cable frayed closest to a microswitch found (as of 05/04/2025, it is currently held together by 2 strands of the cable). I also verified the operation between the front and rear latch of the passenger sliding door with the door panel off, and noticed it intermittently touches the microswitch when closing the door, further confirming the issue. Have had the vehicle for about 10 months and noticed the smell the first time I filled with gas, but did not suspect it was caused by a leak until recently. ENGINE

Honda has issued a recall for the 2018-2019 Honda Odyssey vehicles and certain Acura, Pilot, and Ridgeline vehicles due to a manufacturing error on the connecting rod bearing in the engine, which can damage the engine. Might also be in service bulletin 24-003. This recall, identified as #23V751000, was announced on November 12, 2023. MY VIN is not currently covered by this recall yet I am experiencing the exact same symptoms. I have 6 children that a transport in the vehicle daily and we are moving from Minnesota to Georgia soon. I cannot afford to pay for the repairs of this manufacturer defect out of pocket. Local Honda dealership estimates over $10,000 for this repair! I am now going to an automotive service center to see if they have a more affordable solution. It isn't looking good. I am still driving this vehicle, but the knocking coming from the engine compartment is getting louder and louder and I fear the engine could seize while driving on the road with my children in the vehicle. I also reported this to Honda Corporate on March 28, 2025.

The car has stalling problems and low power problem (changed 3 batteries in 5 years), took to dealership first time and they could not confirmed what's wrong. The problem became worse and stalled a few times, took to local shop and code p2638 torque management feedback signal came back, indicating problem with transmission or TCU. Then, it was noted that there's a NHTSA RECALL NUMBER:19V-299, specifically "Low voltage situations resulting from loose battery terminal connection(s) or a degraded battery could cause the Transmission Control Unit to reboot and shift the transmission to Park". The recall was on 2018-19 Honda Odyssey, however, my car's VIN is not included, therefore it is not covered. Contacted Honda corporate, they are saying since VIN is not part of the recall, it is not covered. The year, the model and the problem are exactly matches what's in the recall but Honda refuse to cover it or giving good will discount.

The contact owns a 2018 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at 50 MPH on the highway, the vehicle went into LIMP Mode. The vehicle failed to accelerate above 40 MPH. There was an abnormal clicking sound coming from the engine. The contact restarted the vehicle. The engine, steering assist, and battery warning lights became illuminated. The low engine oil message was displayed. The contact checked the oil level, and the oil was sufficient. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who determined that the long block needed to be removed and replaced. There was metal in the oil. The mechanic recommended an engine replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The local dealer was not contacted. The contact stated that previously, while driving at undisclosed speeds, there was a misfire coming from the engine. The engine had overheated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was taken to another local dealer, Hoehn Honda Carlsbad (5454 Paseo Del Norte, Carlsbad, CA 92008,) and an undisclosed repair was performed. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 126,000.

When the vehicle comes to a complete stop at a light or in heavy traffic, the auto engine stop feature will engage but the engine will not restart. During rain and snow storms I will get warning lights that the power tailgate isn’t working. Last year when I took it into the dealer they said the tailgate would open and close randomly and there was water in the rear fuse box. I thought I fixed the issue by replacing all the wires from the rear all the way to the front. They fixed my tailgate and did water testing to make sure no water was coming in through the tailgate and all was great. Fast forward to this year and the middle of February we had an all day snow and rain storm and I start having these same warning lights along with a couple others. By the end of the day the tailgate completely stops working. I take it back to the shop that had originally fixed it and water is getting in. Not from the tailgate but through some unknown opening. The fuse board is completely corroded and we have to replace it again. They could not determine where the water is coming in from. I do not want to be driving down the road and have my tailgate randomly open and have items fall on the road causing injury to someone. Nor do I want to have to pay $1000 to fix the circuit board every time it rains or snows. I live in Utah it happens frequently.

AIR BAGS

During a normal drive on city road, the right side airbag and copilot passenger seat airbag both activate with no collision or agitation of the vehicle. Vehicle was sent to dealership for inspection; data transmitted to Honda USA. Honda USA replied that it is normal for airbag to activate even if there is no collision; Honda said even a speed bump could activate the airbag. Honda has refused to investigate further or compensate my repair. During the incident, the car was not going through any speed bump; it was just on a normal flat city road. There was no prior warning signs in the car. It could have caused significant personal injuries had my kids were sitting next to the airbag explosion because the bags activated with.no collision; there is no counterforce to the airbag thus it would thrust straight into a person. Luckily my kids were not in those seats at the time. It took so long to file to NHTSA because Honda had been very unresponsive after hearing my case, it took Honda half a year to inform me they are not doing any corrections or compensation to this incident.

This is a known faulty safety feature that is far to common for the newer odyssey models. This is ridiculous that Honda has put this system into their vehicles, in particular the odyssey and there needs to be a service bulletin to repair this issue or recall completely. It is obviously a faulty part and needs to be resolved.

My 2018 family van purchased brand new. Exclusively serviced at dealer. Immaculately maintained records kept. Driving 70 mph on toll road while driving to dealer for service, car lost power and had to be towed remainder of the way. 100k service done at dealer, 40k miles later car had to be towed back to dealer due to broken rods. Honda says my vin# not effected yet car is inoperable for exact issue with open recall effecting rods. Recall states cars effected produced 2015-2020. Honda offered for us to pay $10k for new engine and they would cover remaining $4k. We do not believe we should get stuck with larger portion of payment when Honda has a known issue with part. Research on line states many more cars affected than the 250,000 initial recall. We appreciate NHTSA’s 2nd probe into this issue.

POWER TRAIN

My 2018 Honda Odyssey experienced a heavy snowfall in January 2025. The control panel displayed an alarm, Power Tailgate Problem , and the trunk door could not be opened. I asked a professional who pointed out that it is usually due to water intrusion into the control unit located on the rear driver's side body panel, which causes the tailgate to fail to open, close normally, or even open accidentally. They believe that this is a manufacturing defect caused by the manufacturer and there is a safety hazard. For safety reasons, I went to the dealer for an inspection. They said they could not find the cause but that the control panel was broken and needed to be replaced. I had to spend a lot of money to replace it. But I still think that the problem was caused by the manufacturer itself.

There is a major safety issue that has happened a few times now. As I come to a stop, or come out of a stop, the engine stutters and completely shuts off. All electronics stop too. Immediately there is a message flashing “right sliding door problem.” I have to put my foot on the brake and restart the engine to get going again. This recently happened as the red light turned green, and a car almost slammed into me from behind.

My car has had all recommended service completed by the dealership since I purchased my Honda Odyssey in 2018. On 2/18/25, my power liftgate started malfunctioning. An error message beeps inside my car 4 times, every 4 seconds and cannot be manually turned off. I took the car to the dealership and was quoted $7500 to make the repair. My car only has 90,000 miles on it and has passed all of my previous service inspections. Supposedly, water is getting into the rear control module. I have never had water in my car so this is clearly a manufacturer's defect that is allowing water to seep into the rear control module.

I took my 2018 Honda Odyssey to the dealership for a fuel pump recall repair. The next day, the engine warning light turned on, and I heard a loud abnormal noise from the high-pressure fuel pump.I scheduled an immediate service appointment. The dealer charged me $230 for a diagnostic but claimed no fault or error code was found. They turned off the warning light without explaining why it was triggered. The abnormal noise from the high-pressure fuel pump persisted, and the dealer recommended replacing the high-pressure fuel pump for $1,942.78 while denying any connection to the recall repair. Component/System That Failed: High-Pressure Fuel Pump Engine Management System How Was Safety Put at Risk? A fuel system failure can cause engine stalling, leading to sudden loss of power while driving and an increased risk of a crash. Has the Problem Been Confirmed by a Dealer? Yes. The dealership acknowledged an abnormal noise from the high-pressure fuel pump but denied any connection to the recall. They only reported a DCA-8000 code, which is not a standard fuel system error code. Has the Vehicle Been Inspected by the Manufacturer? Yes. The dealership inspected the vehicle but refused to take responsibility. Honda Corporate was also contacted, but they denied warranty coverage. Any Warning Lamps or Symptoms Before the Failure? No prior issues before the recall repair. The engine warning light turned on the next day, and the abnormal noise from the high-pressure fuel pump began immediately after. Why This Needs to Be Investigated: The issue began right after the recall service, suggesting a possible defect. The dealer charged me $230 but failed to explain the warning light activation. If other vehicles experience this, it may indicate a recall defect. A fuel system failure can create serious safety risks for drivers and passengers. NHTSA must investigate whether the recall service contributed to high-pressure fuel pump failures, as this could pose a significant safety hazard.

AIR BAGS

The airbag system malfunctioned, causing the airbags to deploy unexpectedly while driving. The vehicle is currently at the Honda dealer for repairs and the airbags, as well as related components, are available for inspection upon request. The unexpected deployment of the airbags posed a significant safety risk. It startled me, which impaired my control of the vehicle suddenly as I was driving on the highway. Afterwards, I noticed fumes in the vehicle and I began feeling nauseous and light headed. I managed to pull over on the highway and stepped out of the vehicle. This could have led to a loss of control of vehicle, increasing the risk of collision or injury to not only myself but others on the road as well. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center yet. However, my insurance appraiser inspected the vehicle immediately after the incident and confirmed that the airbags deployed without any signs of a collision or impact. The cause of the deployment remains unknown, and the appraiser recommended that Honda investigate the issue further to identify any potential malfunction in the airbag system. The issue has been inspected by my insurance appraiser, who concluded that while the airbags deployed, there were no visible signs of a collision or any impact that would typically trigger airbag deployment. The inspection of the vehicle’s exterior panels, undercarriage, and suspension showed no signs of damage. The cause of the airbag deployment is unknown, and the appraiser recommended that Honda investigate further to determine if a malfunction within the vehicle’s airbag system is responsible. I believe Honda is at fault, as this issue appears to be related to a malfunction that they need to address. There were no warning lamps, messages, or symptoms prior to the airbag deployment. However, after the airbags deployed, warning lights appeared on the dashboard, indicating a potential issue.

ENGINE

The vehicle has recently and suddenly developed a loud engine knocking sound which sounds like an engine bottom-end knock (crankshaft or connecting rod). The sound is dependent upon engine RPM and is most noticeable at low RPM and when the engine is warm. The knocking sound is severe for the first 1-2 seconds on cold engine start, until oil pressure is developed. There are two known incidents believed to be caused by this issue: 1. While driving on a public highway with a 75 MPH speed limit, the engine knock became severe and the check engine light began flashing. The car would not accelerate, and once speed was reduced it would not accelerate at all and "limped" home at much-reduced speed. Prevailing traffic had to take action to avoid colliding from behind. 2. While driving up a very slight incline on a public highway with a 65 MPH speed limit, the engine knock became severe and the check engine light began flashing. The engine was unable to produce power and struggled to climb the hill at around 33 MPH with prevailing traffic coming up quickly and swerving to avoid colliding. The vehicle "limped" home again. The problem has been confirmed by an independent service center specializing in Honda and Acura vehicles, and confirmed that the knocking sound does indeed sound like a connecting rod and referred me to Honda service bulletin 23-097. I called American Honda to inquire as to whether my vehicle's VIN qualifies for the associated recall, and they said the vehicle does NOT qualify, and that it was a very narrow range of VINs which do qualify. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance, only the independent service center who did NOT open the engine bottom end for inspection, only listened and did non-invasive troubleshooting before referring me to Honda. Our 2018 Honda Odyssey has continued to experience power sliding door issues that were initially addressed by NHTSA campaign numbers 18V795 and 20V437000. Our vehicle underwent the recommended repairs in both campaigns. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request, and the problem was reproduced by a dealer. In short, after undergoing both warranty repairs, the same problems gradually cropped up again. When attempting to close the door with the power-close button, the sliding door would sometimes stop about three-quarters of the way, and then open fully again. This would happen even when nothing was obstructing the sensor. This happened on both sides of the vehicle (i.e., both sliding doors), and eventually the doors ceased working altogether (albeit at different times) and we brought the vehicle to Honda for a non-warranty repair. The dealer was able to reproduce the problem in both doors, and they made the necessary repair in both cases (see attached invoices). Now, very similar issues have cropped up again, and our concern is that the initial warranty repairs may not have sufficiently addressed the root cause of the issue with these sliding doors. Once again the door sounds like it isn't latching completely. It's hard to describe, but everyone knows the sound in a vehicle when a window or a door is cracked just a little bit. The sound is exactly like that. The dealer told us that moisture intrusion and/or a latching issue may have caused this problem, and we also experienced a severed cable. Word for word, these are almost exactly the issues that campaign numbers 18V795 and 20V437000 were intended to address. If these are indeed the same issues that were the focus of the two recalls, then our vehicle is at risk of the same safety failures, i.e., the sliding doors opening while driving, failing to latch, and/or the snapping of the outer door handle cables due to moisture intrusion.

SEATS

The seam seals on the rear driver's quarter panel of the vehicle are faulty and allowed water to flow into the cabin of the vehicle. The resulting damage was loss of function to the rear power lift gate, front seats, remote start and other key fob functions, as well as a dead battery(assumedly due to arcing on wet circuitry). The damage rendered the lift gate inoperable as I it initially closed but came open during operation. We continued to receive a power lift gae problem on the "Heads Up Display" but the power gate would not open or close, electrically or manually. After a few days the gate opened but would not close, rendering the vehicle unsafe to operate. Furthermore, the battery was dead and would not start. Had this incicdent not occurred in our driveway we could have been susceptible to being stranded in sub-freezing temperatures with kids. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and they confirmed a roof leak was a cause of the water incursion. The power lift gate module and floor harness were damaged causing failures to lift gate operation and other electronics. It will cost $7000 to have it repaired at the local Honda dealer. Pending completion of repairs and paperwork for submission.

This issue is also causing a drain on the battery, which impacts other items due to low voltage. My van is currently at the dealership and I am being told that I will have to purchase a new camera which will be around $1500. The following lights are on; BREAKS, ACC and LKAS. These items first appeared within a few weeks of having the rear camera recall completed.
