2019 HONDA HRV paint began to come off the car at 3 years old. Now the car is 5 years old and the area of concern is growing. The paint is pealing off down to the base of the car structure. This is a safety issue because when it begins to rust, the car parts will fall off. The area around with windshield is pealing decreasing the structural soundness of the car. When it rusts the windshield will not be held in place. Honda USA: Anthony at 800-999-1009. EX: 88024 was contacted and reported that even thought this same make and model car was recalled in 2016-2018 they will not fix the defect they knowingly manufactured. I have had the car inspected by Fisher Honda Colission Center in Boulder, Colorado. They said it is the same paint issue they saw on the cars in 2016-2018. Where Honda did recall the vehicles.

SERVICE BRAKES

The Multipurpose camera that controls all advanced driver assistance fuctions malfunctions causing these systems to intermittenently not work properly or at all. It has caused the vehicle to fail to brake, and brake on its own without cause. Upon doing my own research I found numerous reports online of other owners of this make/model having the same issue. The problem first occured when my vehicle reached about 50,000 miles. It has been ongoing since. It caused damage to my vehicle when the automatic collision assist failed to brake for a vehicle that stopped abruptly in front of me. The alerts that these systems are not working do not always show up when the vehicle starts. Sometimes they stop working in the middle of the route. I have been in correspondence with the dealership who informed me the cost to fix this issue is $1968 (this does not include the $150 diagnostic fee while the vehicle was being serviced for a recall related to the fuel pump - I already paid to the dealer that fee and for which I've attached my receipt.) There is clearly some issue with the part that was installed by the manufacturer. It makes the vehicle unsafe to drive not knowing if these systems will fail or malfunction at any given moment. I do not feel as the customer this should be my responsibility to have repaired, as many others report the same issue with this part. There is clearly a widespread issue that needs to be addressed in a recall in order to replace the faulty part.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Component/System that failed: Fuel mileage range display began fluctuating erratically after a fuel pump recall repair on [XXX], at Open Road Honda, Edison, NJ. Is it available for inspection? Yes. How safety was put at risk: The fuel range display jumps unpredictably (30+ miles up or down), especially after refueling. This causes a driving distraction by pulling my focus from the road. Has the problem been confirmed by a dealer or service center? Open Road Honda confirmed the issue, stating the system lost 63,000 miles of driving data during recall repair and won’t stabilize until 100,000 miles are driven. A second Honda dealer said this is not normal and recommended diagnostics. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer or others? Yes. Inspected multiple times by Open Road Honda and reviewed by their District Parts & Service Manager (DPSM) from American Honda, who called it a “normal characteristic” post-recall. Honda Corporate opened a case but found the explanation unreasonable. Warning lamps or messages: None. When symptoms first appeared: Days after the recall repair in February 2025. Summary: I provided photo/video evidence and returned multiple times for service, but the issue remains unresolved. The head mechanic told me to “just not look at the mileage range.” The problem began after the recall and continues, causing distraction. I request investigation and a proper fix to restore the vehicle’s original condition. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

STEERING

Steering become stiff and sticky while driving it was sudden and I was unable to turn the steering wheel specifically to the left. The other driver stopped short so an accident was avoided. Brought the car for service and was told there is a gearbox issue with swelling causing stiff/sticky steering and the rack and pinion needs to be replaced. It is the same issue that newer model Honda HRVs have been recalled for. It is a serious safety issue. This car has only 56,000 miles on it. There is no way their safety recall on this exact situation should not be expanded to vehicles prior to 2022. It's a serious safety issue.

SEATS

I bought my car brand new off the lot in March 2021, it is a 2021 Honda HRV sport all wheel drive. I've been noticing over the past year that the lever to my seat has been changing the amount of times you need to pump it and the height at which it goes. When I first got the car I want to say that it pumped around 5 to 8 times, now I must use the lever anywhere from 10 to 31 times, and it is always different. The fact that the car no longer holds its position has led me to need to buy a cushion to sit on to see over the steering wheel. This is a huge safety concern because I would have never bought a car that I cannot see over the steering wheel too and nor would I have bought it brand new off the lot. There's also leads to issues where I am constantly needing to adjust my mirrors, adjust my seatbelt, and adjust my steering wheel as well as adjust my distance from the steering wheel. This is wreaking havoc on my mirrors motor and is causing me to break rapidly or not be able to reach the gas pedal if I don't notice that the seat has sunk. When the sea sinks on its own, I am unable to pump it up any higher because it thinks it's at the max amount. I am done forced to get out of the car pump it all the way to the bottom and then pump it all the way to the top. Every time it is a different amount of pumps on the seat lever. This is a huge safety risk while I'm driving. I've also noticed that the seat looks to be leaning while it's on its rails, and the section that sits in the rails while it is at the highest point, don't even look secure I will attach pictures. I weigh 90lbs so I know I have not crushed the cushioning in the seat.

LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST

I have only 40,000 miles on my 2019 Honda HRV. Due to utilizing the lane assist, my rack and pinion, inner tie rod ends and steering shaft assembly have all came lose. When I drive, I can turn my steering wheel to the right and left one inch and the wheels do not move. I need to move my steering wheel more than an inch for the wheels to engage due to everything being faulty and loose. I believe this stems from the vibration caused in the lane assist. I will now need to do a $2,000+ repair on a element of my vehicle that should last between 100,000 - 150,000 miles where my vehicle is only at 40,000 miles. I do not have invoice for the repair yet as I'm shopping around due to high cost. I have a video showing what the incident is, but the form won't allow me to send videos. I'm happy to send that video in a follow up.

STRUCTURE:BODY

I am writing to request your assistance regarding a paint peeling issue that has developed on my 2019 Honda HR-V (currently at 50,320 miles). Recently, I noticed significant paint peeling at the top of the hood — in the exact same area previously identified in the 2016–2018 HR-V models covered under Honda’s paint warranty extension. When I contacted Honda Cares, I was informed that my VIN is not included in that warranty extension. This is very disappointing because I made a conscious effort to protect my vehicle by purchasing the clear coat warranty at the time of sale, believing it would cover or help prevent defects like this. Unfortunately, I was told that this issue is also not covered under that protection. This situation is particularly difficult for me, as I just finished paying off my car last month and am preparing to retire this year. My plan was for this HR-V to be my retirement vehicle, and facing an unexpected repair so soon is a financial hardship I did not anticipate. Furthermore, I am aware of the lawsuit filed with the NHTSA concerning paint defects on Honda vehicles. Given that my paint is peeling in the same area identified in that investigation and covered under the prior warranty extension, I respectfully request that Honda extend that same paint warranty coverage to my vehicle as a gesture of goodwill and fairness. I chose Honda for its reputation for reliability and quality, and until now, I have been very pleased with my HR-V. I hope you will consider my circumstances and the documented history of this paint defect, and help me resolve this issue so I can continue to enjoy my vehicle into retirement. Thank you very much for your time and understanding. I look forward to your response. Sincerely, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Not sure of the cause, but my vehicle burst in the flames unexpectedly. Prior to fire, the vehicle was running very well and up to date on maintenance. We were driving and smoke started coming from the hood. Suddenly the screens/monitors turned off on the vehicle. We pulled over, off the street as quickly as possible. Heard popping sounds, exited the vehicle. Then it burst into flames. Police showed to the scene first. Fire department arrived shortly after to put out the fire.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

I’m writing to express my concern regarding a recurring issue with the instrument cluster on my 2019 Honda HR-V. Specifically, the far-right section of the cluster — which includes the odometer and fuel gauge — frequently flickers or fails to display entirely. This makes it extremely difficult to monitor fuel levels or mileage, and I’m particularly concerned that the odometer may not be accurately recording the vehicle’s true mileage. After researching this issue, I’ve found that this is a well-documented problem among HR-V owners, with many attributing the failure to cracked solder joints on the instrument cluster circuit board. These cracks are believed to result from thermal expansion and contraction, exacerbated by the use of lead-free solder, which is more brittle than traditional alternatives. Given that this issue stems from a design and manufacturing decision — not from any misuse or neglect on my part — I feel strongly that this should be addressed as a manufacturer defect.

Around July 2024 my 2019 HRV began displaying warnings regarding the Honda sensing camera and the features associated with it. After spending my own time and money diagnosing the issue, the dealership explained the Honda sensing camera is malfunctioning. Without any further explanation they expected me to pay almost $2,000 to fix it. Now my car will not pass inspection unless I pay out of pocket to fix the malfunctioning camera despite the lack of reasoning. This feature should be removed from Honda vehicles if it is going to malfunction for no reason.

I paid Honda in Surprise AZ $210 for a diagnosis and they told me that it needs a new U3000-49 Multipurpose camera unit will cost $1,730 to replace and install and possibky another $1,420 for a new SRS unit. The car was never in an accident, and both of these should not be breaking after just 5 years of ownership. Clearly the multipurpose camera unit and also likely the srs are defective and should be recalled.

i made an appointment with Garden State Honda of Passaic, NJ located (225 River Drive Passaic, NJ 07055) after waiting months for an appt. finally took my car today 01/20/2025 and when at the Counter rep named Chelsea state that their honda dealer could not honor nor repair my car due to how I purchased the car in an action.. My understanding is even though I purchase a salvaged vehicle the issue is with a recall part from Honda not the car..Now my vehicle has been parked for months waiting for this appt. Has too many lights due to this fuel pump recall and I cant even get my inspection sticker since its now expired with NJ due to the many lights the car has on. I need some help and guidance as to what can be done

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

I am not sure what part of the system is failing. While driving on the high the car just stopped no warning just stopped it went from 55- 60 miles an hour on 287 all the way to 20 and then stopped. This was all random. Then it was taken to a independent service who ran the codes and none of them stayed so i drove the car again and all that happened before happened once again. The independent service told me its the transmission and they are not sure why its happening he noted that these hondas have transmission issue
