2014 HONDA CROSSTOUR Complaints and Recall Information
The 2014 HONDA CROSSTOUR has 4 complaints and 3 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues with the rear backup camera fogging up and failing due to a bad seal. Problems with starting the vehicle despite multiple starter replacements are also reported.
- Backup camera fogging. Moisture enters the rear camera housing, causing the lens to fog and blur the image until the camera eventually fails.
- Camera replacement failure. The rear camera was replaced by a dealer but failed again after about a year, while the passenger side mirror camera does not have this problem.
- Starting failure. Vehicle fails to start despite replacing the starter three times, with repeated grinding noises heard during attempted starts.
- Torque converter misalignment. The incorrect positioning of the torque converter ring gear prevents the starter from spinning the engine properly at startup.
There are three recalls related to the 2014 HONDA CROSSTOUR affecting mainly the passenger frontal air bag inflator system. These recalls involve potential air bag inflator explosions and installation defects that impact occupant safety.
- Air bag inflator defect. Recall 19V502000 affected 9,555 vehicles due to propellant degradation in the passenger frontal air bag inflator, which may explode and send metal fragments into occupants causing serious injury or death. Dealers will replace the inflator free of charge. The recall began August 12, 2019.
- Air bag inflator installation. Recall 19V378000 involved 19,138 vehicles where the passenger air bag inflator may have been installed incorrectly during replacement, increasing injury risk in a crash. Dealers will inspect and replace the inflator assembly as needed. The recall began July 5, 2019.
- Air bag inflator propellant degradation. Recall 18V661000 covered over 1.3 million vehicles nationwide with inflators that may explode due to propellant degradation after exposure to varying humidity and temperature. Dealers will replace the inflator at no cost. The recall started November 6, 2018.
Owners dealing with repeated starting failures or unresolved air bag recalls may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting a qualified attorney can help determine legal options related to persistent defects or safety recalls.

I am having problems with my car starting… even after replacing the starter 3 times. I am having the exact issue referenced in TSB No.16-002. I can hear the grinding noise but due to the incorrect positioning of the torque converter ring gear, the starter isn’t spinning the engine at startup even after replacing the starter. I can’t afford to keep replacing the starter and have my car not start everyday. Is Honda able to help with this issue?

The rear camera, backup camera appears to have bad seal. The inside fogs up. Blurring the camera image. This eventually leads to failure. I had the Honda dealer replace my previous original camera at my expense, a year later the same problem has arisen. The Camera mounted on the passenger side mirror does not have this issue and seems to be a different model camera.
