STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Honda Civic and CR-V vehicles. The magnet that controls the torque sensor output signal for the electronic power steering system may not be properly secured, allowing the magnet to become dislodged. During a full lock turn, the dislodged magnet may cause steering assist to be applied in the opposite direction.
Risk: The unintended steering input reduces vehicle maneuverability and increases the risk of a crash.

Hi I have been trying to take care of fuel pump related recall for a while and went to Millers Honda NYS REG R- 4040274 3 times and every time I realize there is problems with vehicles safety features and acceleration and it won’t pass inspection. Few times it felt like as if vehicle would stop in the middle of the road because i couldn’t accelerate. Recently I was charged almost 1500 dollars for a problem they should have fixed in 2023. In 2023 I attempted to make a complaint with the DMV and they temporarily fixed the problem and it would come back time to time. Please help and investigate.

I was driving on the highway, 65 mph using cruise control, in the right lane. There was one car in my relative vicinity, already halfway through it's exit off the freeway, with my car still about 6 or 7 car lengths away. The automatic braking system suddenly engaged hard. I quickly disengaged cruise control, which mitigated the problem. In the moment of unexpected braking, I was thankful there was no one around me, because my hard, sharp braking could have caused me a rear end accident and someone else, a front end accident. No one has confirmed my experience. The car is currently being inspected by my local mechanic. There were no warning messages or lamps prior to the 'short stop'. UNKNOWN if warning message came on in the midst of the short stop.

The 1.5L turbo engine in my 2018 Honda CR-V is experiencing oil dilution. Raw fuel mixes with the engine oil, lowering flashpoint and thinning viscosity. This creates a fire risk, loss of lubrication, accelerated engine wear, and potential stalling. Honda issued TSBs, but the problem persists. This is a serious safety defect.

To Whom It May Concern: ‚ÄãI am writing to file a formal complaint regarding a serious and recurring safety defect in my 2018 Honda CR-V EX, VIN# [XXX] . I have experienced at least four incidents within the last two months involving both sudden, unintended braking and intermittent steering lock-ups. These are not isolated events and pose a significant risk to the safety of myself and other motorists. ‚ÄãThe sudden braking issue, often referred to as "phantom braking," occurs when the vehicle's Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) activates without any obstacle or danger present. The car abruptly comes to a full stop, without warning, on a clear road. This is extremely dangerous and has nearly caused multiple rear-end collisions. ‚ÄãIn addition to the braking problem, the steering has also become intermittently stuck. This happens without warning and makes it difficult to turn the wheel, which could lead to a loss of control, especially at higher speeds or on curves. ‚ÄãI have already reported these issues to two authorized Honda dealerships: ‚ÄãCurry Honda in Atlanta, Georgia ‚ÄãHonda AutoNation in Columbus, Georgia ‚ÄãOn each occasion, the dealerships have been unable to replicate the problem and have told me they cannot find anything wrong. Despite their inability to diagnose the issue, the problems are very real and continue to happen. ‚ÄãThese defects are not just an inconvenience; they are serious safety hazards that could lead to a crash. I am concerned that if this problem is happening to my vehicle, it may be affecting other 2018 Honda CR-V owners as well. I urge the NHTSA to investigate this matter thoroughly to prevent potential accidents and injuries. ‚ÄãPlease contact me if you require any additional information. ‚ÄãThank you for your attention to this critical matter. Driving along a city road, and the CMBS (Collision Mitigation Braking System) engaged. The brakes were slammed on, out of nowhere for no good reason. The closest car in front was several car lengths away, but there was a car closely following behind. That car (and the car behind it) had to brake hard to avoid collision. No injuries occurred in our vehicle. We were, however, pretty fucking scared and pissed.

At around 88,400 miles my Enging light came on saying I had an "Emissions Problem." Shortly after the Emissions problem was being signaled, several other lights came on including, ABS problem, Adaptive Cruise Control Problem, Electronic Break problem and several others. I took my car to a Honda dealership's service shop to have a dianostics test run. According the the report the "check found code P0172 fuel systtem too rich." "Performed A/F test, CYL,1,2,3 Failed too rich." And they recommended replacing the injectors and I opted to have it done by them. When asked if that seemed ealrier for fuel injectors to go, the service rep said yes that they typically last the life of the egine.

When the car is hot, (warmed up and the temp the ambient temp is over 80 degrees F) the electrical power steering "sticks" while highway driving and makes it difficult to steer the vehicle. We took it to a local Honda dealer who has indicated that they find nothing wrong with the steering but there is definitely something not right. We have noticed that other 2018 Honda CR-Vs have had power steering recalls, but ours is not indicated on the list. We are wondering if this is simply not something that has been discovered for our vehicle VIN yet. Hoping for some kind of resolution that assists in getting problem properly addressed issue has been occurring for about 2 months now. Issue is ongoing.

When driving the steering is sticky, making steering corrections constantly. Happens at all speeds, but very noticeable and dangerous at highway speeds. This has been occurring for quite some time and I thought there would be a recall. This is a known issue for Honda but goes unaddressed. Dealer says the EPS needs to be replaced to the tune of about $3000, not the solution I wanted. By reading the complaints from other Honda owners this issue is on many model years. My vehicle has only 61,000 miles and this should not happen to this many model years. This puts my family and others at risk. There were no warning lamps or messages regarding this issue. Please review and take some action to help resolve this situation

The steering input on this vehicle could be described as "sticky" or "notchy". It requires higher levels of force for a moment (as if it is getting stuck or bound up on something). The steering will often times not self-center when going around a curve. The independent shop (Honda specific) shop that cares for my vehicles says that is not the power steering pump but something in the rack that has gone bad. They pointed to: NHTSA Recall #128844 NHTSA Compaign #18V663000 However my VIN is not covered by that recall. But it is definitely close to the VIN range. This "sticky" steering can make it very difficult to make the small corrections necessary to keep the car centered in it's lane and could potentially make the Lane Keep Assist dangerous. It could also potentially hamper the drivers ability to make an emergency maneuver to avoid an accident.

Summary of Problem: Steering issue with 2018 Honda CR-V – unsafe wandering and direction changes at highway speeds. Detailed Description: Approximately four months ago, the steering on my 2018 Honda CR-V began to feel unstable. Over time, the condition has progressively worsened. At highway speeds, the steering will unpredictably shift direction and “wander” within the lane without driver input. This requires constant correction to maintain lane position and creates a serious safety hazard. The condition feels especially unsafe at speeds over 55 mph because it compromises the driver’s ability to keep the vehicle centered in the lane. Due to the severity of the issue, we have stopped driving the vehicle for the past month. A Honda dealership confirmed a problem with the steering gearbox and quoted $4,800 for repair. Honda has acknowledged the defect but will only offer 10% coverage. This is unacceptable given that other 2018 CR-V vehicles have been recalled for steering box defects, and the symptoms in my vehicle match those recall descriptions. My VIN, however, is not currently included in the recall. This defect matches NHTSA Campaign 18V663000, which describes a torque sensor magnet in the steering gearbox that may become dislodged, causing unexpected steering behavior and increasing crash risk. Only four 2018 CR-V vehicles were officially recalled, but numerous other owners have reported identical symptoms. Public complaints from owners on forums such as r/crv and sites like [XXX] and [XXX] describe wandering steering and sticky steering at highway speeds, often resolved only after steering gearbox replacement. These issues mirror my experience exactly. The problem is systemic and not limited to the small number of VINs in the official recall. The defect significantly affects vehicle control and poses a risk of loss of steering at highway speeds. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate and consider INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The steering requires different amounts of pressure to turn the wheels. The steering wheel is stiff in the center then breaks free making it hard to control. When driving on long curves my steering sticks and I need to correct it by turning the wheel slightly inorder to continue on the road. It feels like it could lose control and veer off the road causing an accident. It is both frightening and dangerous to feel the steering stick and not possibly be able to be corrected. i took my car to my local Honda dealer and to diagnose the problem it would cost $224 I could not afford that and would lose it if they did not feel the sticking and if they did it would be applied to the repair. I decided to wait for what I feel is a pending recall. Now it has gotten worse and confirmed by my son who drove my car and asked what the heck is wrong with the steering. Now I feel confirmed and will have to have it repaired. There are no warning lights or messages the driver feels the steering stick and adjusts the direction to stay on the road. This is dangerous, frightening and please do a recall before someone is injured.

Was driving on a main road in the afternoon. There was a car ahead of us, but not directly ahead, and did not have its break lights go on. My car suddenly flashed the "break now" sign and put on the breaks without warning. Fortunately, there was no one behind us, and I was able to continue without incident. This has never happened before, but it really shook me, as it could have been a very dangerous situation. Had there been another car right behind us, we would have been rear ended. It makes me nervous to drive my car, as I don't know if this could happen again.

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the ongoing steering problems I have been experiencing with my 2018 Honda CR-V. This has made it difficult and even dangerous to operate the vehicle at highway speeds. Specifically, the steering wheel often becomes extremely hard to turn, creating a feeling that the power steering is not working as it should. Additionally, the steering wheel frequently fails to return to its center position after making a turn, further compromising my ability to control the vehicle safely. Upon researching this issue, I discovered that other CR-V owners have experienced similar steering problems. Furthermore, a recall (18V-663) was issued for some 2018 CR-Vs due to a potential problem with the torque sensor magnet in the electronic power steering system, which may result in unexpected steering behavior during full-lock turns.

I am submitting this complaint due to repeated and unresolved safety and performance issues. Beginning in mid-2023, the vehicle experienced multiple system-wide failures, including: -All dashboard warning lights illuminating intermittently without cause, sometimes for days. -Sudden failure to accelerate after stopping, including stalling in intersections. -Engine running rich with repeated check engine light activations. On two occasions, the vehicle stalled in the middle of busy intersections, once with my [XXX] child in the car, posing a serious risk to my family and other drivers. The dealership replaced the A/C Control Unit (June 2023) citing it as the cause of the system alerts, but no improvement was seen. The dealership then diagnosed a faulty VSA unit, quoted $2,500, but never ordered the part or followed up. A third-party shop (Mr. Tire) diagnosed a faulty ECM, which the dealership ignored. In September 2023, dealership recommended replacing the fuel injectors, which I paid for out-of-pocket (~$1,000), which resolved the warning lights and stalling. However, ongoing problems persist: The air conditioning system is no longer cooling effectively, despite prior repair. The car also feels underpowered when accelerating or starting, with weak engine revving compared to when the car was new. While no current warning lights appear, the performance is noticeably degraded. In April 2025, the vehicle’s fuel pump was finally replaced under Honda’s service bulletin recall after being on the waiting list for the parts for nearly 1.5 years, but these other concerns remain unresolved. I am submitting this complaint because: The stalling incidents created serious safety hazards in live traffic. The vehicle has experienced repeated systemic failures that align with known issues reported by other 2018 CR-V owners. Despite multiple dealership visits and significant personal expense, the vehicle has not been restored to reliable and safe operating condition. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORM

Sticky Steering is what its being called. I have been dealing with this for several years (after the warranty was out) but over the last 2 months it has gotten worse. While at highway speeds (45+) there is more resistance when trying to straighten the steering wheel causing an over correction and veering into another lane. Problem is known to dealer but has yet to be duplicated by several garages.

Although the incident date is recent (since an alignment was done a few days prior) this issue has been happening for over a year, but is now getting to the point that we are unable to drive safely at highway speeds. Our steering wheel, especially at highway speeds, gets stuck either side of center, pulling the car to one side or the other. The steering wheel feels stuck and has to be turned with effort constantly to keep the car traveling in a straight line. Even the lane assist feature is also constantly having to correct the steering. After a wheel alignment the problem seems to have gotten worse. The steering also does not recover to the center position after making a turn at low speed.

The steering at highway speeds doesn't allow for small corrections. If you move the steering wheel slightly nothing happens , then it suddenly “grabs” causing overcorrection then , you get it back to center but then it “grabs” too much in the other direction. Taking the car to dealer tomorrow for inspection. Something wrong with the steering rack cpuld cause big problems.

On [XXX] I was driving my 2018 Honda CR-V on [XXX] near Livingston Montana. I was traveling at about 70 mph with my vehicle's sunroof closed and the inside panel closed, it was a warm day and my AC was on, all windows closed. Suddenly I heard a Bang above my head, I heard particles bouncing off the roof. I looked in my rear view mirror and saw chunks and particles landing in front of a Semi Truck behind me, the truck swerved to avoid the glass and passed me. I slowed down, slightly opened the inside sunroof cover and saw broken glass. Closed the inner cover and I pulled off the Freeway and inspected the damage to the skylight; a large area missing (1/3 of the glass) and glass remnants lifting up toward the sky. It looked as if the skylight glass had exploded outward. The safety part is: 1, If I had the inner skylight cover open, I or my passenger(s) could have been sprayed with glass particles traveling at 70 mph. 2. If a motorcycle or other vehicle was behind me they would have been sprayed with glass chunks and particles. 3. Swerving by the Honda being driven and Swerving by the vehicles following. I have read that other Honda owners have had similar Honda sunroof glass explode when not in use in a class action complaint. My vehicle was in excellent condition with only 43,000 miles at the time. When turning, the steering wheel has a very loud creak and when driving, the steering wheel sticks. The Honda maintenance dept said there’s a recall on 2018 CRV’s for this exact problem due to a faulty steering gearbox but that my VIN # is not affected. The problem on my car has been confirmed by the Honda dealer. The maintenance supervisor at our Honda location stated there is also a recall on newer model Honda’s for the steering gearbox. Honda, as well as multiple independent mechanics, have stated that this issue can cause catastrophic injury or death. However, Honda Corporate has refused to offer assistance in fixing this issue and said the out of pocket cost to me will be $4300. There have been no warning signals about this issue and it started about 1 year ago. The car currently has only 62k miles. The original owner of the vehicle was my mother-in-law who leased it directly from the Honda dealer. She only put 18k miles on the car. We both have had it serviced according to Honda’s official maintenance schedule. This is a serious, known issue with active recalls that can cause a fatal accident and Honda refuses to expand their recall for public safety.

The steering wheel sticks especially after being driven for a while. It is necessary to use slightly more force to move it sometimes causing overcorrection. I took it to the Honda dealer and they said eventually the gears will be worn so much that the steering mechanism will fail and potentially cause an accident. There are no warning lights for this issue, and currently no recall. I have not had it fixed because the repair cost I was quoted was $4,300. My vehicle has not even hit 100K miles, and should not have such a dangerous, costly issue already.

We started to have "catches" in the steering wheel when driving - from just small catches when turning the steering wheel to more noticeable occurrences. This had been ongoing for several months prior to taking it into the Hertrich Honda dealership in Easton, Md. (We had, previously, taken it into the mechanic that regularly services our cars but they could not recreate the problem), The Hertrich service tech had to drive it several times before experiencing the problem and ID'd it as an issue with the steering rack, requiring replacement. We, then contacted Honda Corporate (05/21/2025) as we saw that a recall had been issued back in September, 2018 (1 month after we purchased our CR-V) for same year and model cars as ours for "Steering : Electric power assist system" - recall# 18V663000. We explained our issue and asked if it would be covered for repairs as it appeared to be the same. We were told that since our vehicle was not included in the recall and that the repair that the dealer listed as being necessary - "replacing steering rack (53620-TLA-A13)) is not the same as the recall repair authorized, "...the steering gearbox assembly...". A follow-up call to the dealership service manager to clarify the difference resulted in being told that they are essentially the same repair, that they do not replace the steering rack without the steering gearbox assembly for that model. Calling Honda, again, for additional clarification we were told that, from their viewpoint they are separate repairs and would not authorize coverage. However, they are willing to provide a "Customer Good Will Adjustment" to the quoted dealer repair estimate of $5,020. and reduce it to $3,500. As it appears that we have no other alternative, we will be contacting Honda to accept this and arrange to schedule the service. Also, as an aside the service manager at Hertrich told us that we wouldn't believe how many of these repairs they have had to do on these Civics and CR-V's

Subject: Fuel Pump Recall Remedy Denied – Ongoing Safety Risk I purchased a used Honda vehicle in December 2024, and shortly after, I learned it was under recall for the fuel pump. In January 2025, I took it to Lia Honda for an oil change and to perform the recall. The dealership refused to do the recall, saying the fuel pump had already been replaced with an aftermarket part by a previous owner. However, the official Honda recall repair was never performed. On June 5, 2025, the car stalled on I-91 while I was accelerating, and all the dashboard lights and alarms came on. I was able to coast to safety. I took the car to AutoZone at 7:28 PM, where a scan confirmed a faulty fuel pump. The car would not start and had to be left at AutoZone temporarily. Later that night, I was able to start it and immediately brought it to Lia Honda, leaving it overnight. On June 6, Lia Honda returned the car to me and claimed the issue was unrelated to the fuel pump, giving me a vague diagnosis involving fuel system cleanliness. Despite the AutoZone scan, the known recall, and the dangerous highway stall, Lia Honda refused to perform the recall or acknowledge the fuel pump as the problem. On June 13, the same issue occurred again while accelerating on I-91, this time with my family in the vehicle. The car stalled dangerously in traffic, again putting all of us at risk. I later contacted Honda Customer Support, and two representatives told me I was eligible for the recall repair. But when Honda USA followed up, I was informed they would not honor the recall or cover the repair, because the part had been replaced with a non-Honda pump by a previous owner. This is unacceptable. The recall remedy was never performed, and the part clearly failed again. Lia Honda’s refusal to acknowledge the fuel pump failure on June 6 prevented me from protecting my family’s safety, leading to a second highway incident that could have resulted in a crash I have all diagnosis and receipts in paper()

Steering becomes "sticky," and it becomes difficult to turn the steering wheel. This happens after about 45 minutes of driving and at speeds of 50 miles per hour and higher. The steering wheel sticks in one position and it takes greater effort to unstick it. This is a safety issue, because turning and lane changes take longer and could lead to a crash. This issue hasn't been confirmed by a dealer because of the time it takes for the problem to manifest itself. The vehicle has not been inspected outside of normal dealer servicing.

When the steering wheel is turned to its maximum angle you can hear popping noises at slower speeds in parking lot or when backing out of driveway. When traveling at higher speeds 35mph or more the steering wheel sticks and is hard to move. When it unsticks it jerks the vehicle in the opposite direction. Worried this can cause a crash. Why is this not covered under a recall? There are other 2018 CR-Vs that are covered under 18V-663 recall why is my VIN excluded considering i am having the same issue?

This has reoccurred several times since 2024. Appointment has been made with dealer since the danger is whether warning sign is legitimate or just an electrical problem. This happens when car is first started and prior to initial drive. Does not prevent use of the car.

2018 CRV with less than 55,000 miles on it has developed an issue with the steering control felling "sticky" at times. This is very noticeable at speeds over 40mph and once the car has warmed up. The feeling while driving is that the steering is stuck in a notch and is not smooth causing the driver to put more effort into steering which then causes over correction and erratic driving. No warning indicators are lit and vehicle does not have any ADAS systems

This vehicle was purchased new and I am the sole owner. Immediately upon purchasing the vehicle, I experienced what has been described as 'sticky' steering. I believed at the time it was related to the adaptive cruise control, the lane keeping assistance system, or the road departure mitigation system. However, the sticky steering continued and was always present. In 2024 I took my vehicle to an authorized Honda dealer, Planet Honda in Lakewood, Colorado. They could not recreate the problem, but now I realize that this is because they did not get the vehicle and its parts warm enough to cause the problem to reveal itself. Upon becoming aware of two recalls of Honda CR-Vs with similar issues (NHTSA Campaign numbers 24V744000 and 18V663000), I took my vehicle back to Planet Honda last week and more fully described the problem. I was shocked to hear from the service advisor that he was not even aware of these recalls. However, I explained that EVERY SYMPTOM I was experiencing was and always had been exactly as described in the 2024 recall. I requested that they get the vehicle warm and then they would experience the problem. They did in fact confirm the problem, but stated that because the vehicle was not included in the recall they would charge me over $5,000 for repairs, despite the fact that it had been present since the inception of my ownership, and had been reported to them earlier. I do not dispute that my vehicle was not included in the recall, but would submit that given the situation, it SHOULD HAVE BEEN included, and even if not, the evidence is clear (and not disputed) that the problem is and always has been related to this manufacturing. design or assembly defect. I also recognize that my vehicle has over 136,000 miles. However, Honda readily advertise that its vehicle should last hundreds of thousands of miles, and I agree, IF a manufacturers' defect is repaired under warranty or SHOULD BE, as the subject of a recall. This is to report an activation of the Collision Mitigation Braking System on my Honda 2018 CRV despite there being no collision danger. While driving approximately 30 mph on a 2 lane suburban residential street, my car suddenly slowed when the CMBS system engaged despite my car being at an ample following distance from the car ahead. There were no pedestrians or any obstructions in the road. I believe my safety was at risk because there was no reason for my car to reduce speed and luckily the car behind me did not hit me. My car slowed considerably but did not stop. I have not had the car inspected or serviced with regard to this problem. There were no other warning lamps or messages prior to the system engaging.

No crash, but ongoing issue that could cause a crash easily as it is increasing in difficulty in steering the vehicle. Abnormal sound when turning. Sticky wheel that has difficulty releasing at the end of a turn. Increased effort to turn. Safety issue due to uneven force needed to turn or straighten at end of turn which can result in under or over correcting. Honda dealer can reproduce and says the steering gearbox needs to be replaced but the cost is over $5000 and will have to be budgeted for. Other models of Hondas have been recalled for same issue but not this year of vehicle.

After turning to the tight, steering resists centering and tries to continue to the right. Problem first occurred in late 2023. Honda dealer could not identify the cause but suggested rotating and realigning the tires. That reduced the problem for a while. However, it has retuned now and requires much greater effort to return to center, more so at higher speed, I.e. on the freeway.

June 2, 2025 –Started slowing for stoplight and left turn. Car again was not slowing down as expected when braking so I pressed harder on the brake pedal. It slowed down then but I didn’t go to a complete stop because traffic was moving. Instead, I let the car creep a bit while waiting for an opening to turn left. I then drove a couple of blocks to a 4-way stop where the revving started again when the car came to a full stop. I put it into Park, and it went to 8000 RPM. I turned it off and back on—again back to 8000 RPM. Wouldn’t come out of Park. Turned off again and back on—same thing. Turned off and took my foot off of the brake. The car lurched forward quite a bit before stopping—guess the Parking gear took hold then. I started the car again, and the RPM was normal. This is the second occurrence. Occurred first time in late June, 2024. - Braking and speed control affected - Car trying to accelerate when applying brake can lead to accident harming me and potentially others - Problem has occurred three times over the past year - Vehicle was checked and diagnostics run by dealership in July, 2024. Nothing found, was not able to recreate the scenario. No diagnostics available. - No warnings, messages, or other symptoms other than car not slowing as expected. Took car back to dealership on 6/6/2025 who reminded me that they didn't find anything last time. Am taking it to different dealer for a check this time.

I am writing to express my concern and disappointment regarding persistent electrical issues with my 2018 Honda CR-V (VIN: [XXX] ). My vehicle has recently experienced multiple warning lights turning on simultaneously, including brake, VSA, and TPMS. After inspection, I was informed that the issue may be related to the battery or sensor systems, even though the vehicle has not experienced any incidents or misuse. I would like to emphasize that this is a well-known issue reported by many 2018 CR-V owners, as evidenced in online forums, service bulletins, and consumer complaints. It is extremely frustrating to be responsible for repair costs for what appears to be a design or manufacturing flaw. Additionally, I visited a local Honda dealership for diagnosis, but I was given no explanation regarding the cause of the problem and was simply asked to pay for service. I found this experience to be highly unprofessional and upsetting, especially considering the seriousness of the issue and my loyalty to the brand. Given the potential safety risks and the common nature of this problem, I respectfully request that Honda consider my case for goodwill repair coverage or reimbursement. I am also aware of an open fuel pump recall (Campaign: 24-007:6FE00) on this vehicle, and would like to confirm that any and all necessary service campaigns are addressed. My steering wheel gets "sticky" at highway speeds. For instance: At 55 MPH I take a slight turn or curve to the left. The steering wheel does not return as it normally should. It seems stuck. It takes a definite firm pull back to the right. It has recently gotten worse. My dealer says there is nothing they can do other than a $4,500 repair. My wife is the main driver of this car and is very afraid the car is unsafe. My dealer said he called Honda to inquire about "goodwill assistance " for me. They told him due to the age and mileage there was nothing they can do. It is a 2018 Honda CRV - with 86k miles. Given the importance of steering I am afraid this car is unsafe to drive. We feel certain there should be a recall on such an important part. Thank you.

Steering Safety Complaint – 2018 Honda CR-V (Sticky/Resistant Steering) This is to formally document a persistent safety defect in my 2018 Honda CR-V. The steering is continually sticky and fails to return to center smoothly, requiring ongoing corrections and posing a safety hazard. This issue exactly matches the symptoms in NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V663000, though my vehicle is not included in the recall. Honda informed me that only vehicles from specific manufacturing locations are covered—even though many 2018 CR-Vs are reporting identical problems. According to [XXX], over 150 steering-related complaints exist for the 2018 CR-V, and your own organization is currently investigating more than 532,000 Honda and Acura vehicles for similar steering issues. I contacted both a local Honda dealer and Honda Headquarters. Both advised me to visit a Honda service center for a paid inspection. My mechanic already diagnosed the issue and quoted $3,000–$4,000 for a full steering column replacement. There is no assurance Honda will assist with these costs, but an expanded recall will increase the chances of reimbursement. This complaint should be included in the NHTSA investigation, as it clearly demonstrates that the steering defect impacts vehicles beyond those currently recalled. My power steering rack needs replacing. When I turn my steering wheel to the left it sticks and I have to pull it back right to go straight again. I took it to my local Honda dealer and they stated the steering rack needs replacing but it is not listed under recall from September 18, 2018, where other CRVs had steering issues. It is dangerous to drive and Honda isn't willing to help or stand by their product defects.

The steering in the steering column feels "sticky." I see that Honda issued a recall on some VINs for my vehicle, but not my specific one. Even Honda says it is a dangerous problem that can cause a serious accident. But they refuse to do anything about it for my VIN even though I am having the exact problem they described. I have been quoted a ridiculous amount to fix it. Honda is clearly prioritizing money over safety by not issuing a recall.

This issue occurs daily and has progressively worsened. Even with Lane Keep Assist (LKA) and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) turned off, there is noticeable resistance in the steering wheel. It happens at all speeds, but it's especially noticeable—and potentially dangerous—at higher speeds. The resistance is most apparent when turning the wheel to the right while the steering wheel is still positioned to the left of center. At the same time, it often makes a creaking or rubbing noise. Additionally, at lower speeds—such as during U-turns or in parking lots—I experience resistance and the same noise when re-centering the wheel after turning fully to the left. However, I don’t notice the issue when re-centering from a full right turn.

The car developed "sticky steering" when turning either left or right, and became very difficult to maneuver especially when returning back to center. Highly unreliable and unsafe to drive. I took the car to service department and they concluded that the steering gear box is the issues, where the "gears are disintegrating". The car only has 40,262 miles on it. I had no other option but replacing the ESP gear box and getting an alignment done. As a result, I paid a total of $5,022.

We have been having a problem with our steering wheel and have taken it to the dealership ,but they have been unable to replicate the issue with only test driving for several minutes. During a recent trip I experienced for 4 hours the steering wheel pushing left and right slightly like the lane assist was activated, which was not , but the steering was pushing me out of the lane almost causing a crash repeatedly during the trip. I had to keep both hands tight on the steering to maintain control of the vehicle . It felt like two magnets repelling each other creating a dangerous situation. This was at speeds over 70 mph on the highway. It was sporadic at slower speed. I saw a recall with the steering but ours was not listed .? This issue deserves investigation. My wife had reported this incident prior and has been occurring for months.

Ever since I purchased this car, my air conditioning have had nothing but problems. Even though it was recalled once and was repaired another issue is the Discharge Hose leaking which is preventing my air conditioning from cooling the cabin. This has been an ongoing issue ever since I purchased the car. I have not done any excessive or off road driving which would cause the damage and I believe it is a manufacturer defect on Honda. I have attached the report from the Honda Service Department.

My brother in back seat said it felt like a bowling ball hit sunroof. I slid open the protective guard and noticed all the glass in sun roof was pebbled and shattered. There were no overpasses nearby...there was little traffic as it was [XXX]. Not sure what happened. My insurance doesnt want to cover as they feel manufacturers defect. There is mention of several class action suits in progress online for imploding sunroofs, but I received no notices. Honda denies any defect and says not their problem. The mechanic told me that cylinder #2 misfired. He replaced the spark plugs and the ignition coil. A few days later after driving for a few miles "Stop driving when safe, engine temperature too Hot" sign came up. I stopped driving immidiately and got the car towed to the repair shop. After testing the car the mechanic told me that the head gasket leaked and the coolant is mixing with the lubricant. He told me that there is damage to the engine so the engine need to be replaced. The steering gearbox mechanism is faulty. It causes the steering to be jerky and unstable, having to constantly adjust steering. We took it to the Honda Dealership in Ft. Walton Beach, FL for evaluation. They indicate "the steering gearbox is faulty and would need a new rack to fix issue". Cost to repair is approximately $4600. An independent mechanic locally also confirmed the same issue and provided a Honda Service Bulletin 18-103 showing this was a recall on 2017-2018 CRVs. Cost for them to repair (due to cost of parts) is nearly $7,000. Honda says our VIN is not covered under the recall. The car has only 55,000 miles on it and the steering gearbox is failing. At the direction of the local dealership service manager, we created a case with Honda corporate but they have denied the request to repair under prior recall. Honda directed us to the NCDS to file a request for review. NCDS denies the review since the CRV is out of warranty. Honda knows this was an issue on the 2017-2018 CRV and it is a safety issue and they refuse to repair it. I don't feel safe driving the car as I don't know when the steering gearbox will ultimately fail.

I have noticed within the last 6 months that the steering seems to stick. When I am turning the wheel it hesitates and I'm not comfortable and feel safe. It's getting worse and more noticeable. I've been reading some more information from other drivers of my 2018 Honda CRV and see that there are different recommendations and it's costing $4,000 and up to fix. I am not able to do that repair and feel like this should be included in the recall of the previous 2018 Honda crvs. There's clearly something wrong with the steering.

Started having issues with steering rack about a year and a half ago. Steering would stick and make creaking noises. Brought it to my local Honda dealership last spring and they diagnosed it as needing steering rack replacement which would cost about $4,000. I reached out to Honda Corporate and they said the best they could do would to reduce the repair by $1,000. I told them I don’t think I should have to be responsible because 1) I didn’t to anything to cause it and 2) the CRV only had 75,000 miles on it. From going online I’m not the only one to have steering issues on this model. The driver side sun visor became very difficult to operate and when trying to place in back in the stored / upright position it will not go into place and hangs down 2-4" that can cause visibility problems especially for taller drivers. This is a very common defect on several Honda vehicles as seen on Honda Forums or a Google search of Honda Sunvisor problem.

My vehicle became difficult to steer, similar to driving with all the tires low on air. I made an appointment with Proctor Honda. They determined the Electronic Power Steering Rack was sticking and replaced it with a 5320-TLB-A23 : G/BOX ASSY, EPS. Honda assured me this was not a recall issue. After paying the $4365.66 repair charge, I determined there was a Service Bulletin 23-037 issued for this same problem. It applied to 2018 Honda CRVs. However, it only covered 54 vehicles and my vehicle was not included. This seems unreasonable given it appears to be the identical issue as the vehicles subject to the recall. I'm a 76 year old female and have no means to challenge this other than to ask for your help in determining if I am being treated fairly. If it truly is not the same issue, then I understand. Mileage is 87,661.

I'm a 76 year old female and have no means to challenge this other than to ask for your help in determining if I am being treated fairly. If it truly is not the same issue, then I understand. Mileage is 87,661.

Similar to the open investigation on these CRVs, we have had at least 3 occurrences of the vehicle activating automatic emergency breaking with nothing obstructing the vehicles path. There were, however, metal plates in the roadway to cover utility trenches. These are designed for vehicles to drive over them all day, every day, so the vehicle should not emergency stop. Although there were luckily no rear end collisions as a result of this, it was certainly possible given how abrupt the stop was.

In January 2023 our vehicle began having numerous issues with sensors, alarms, door locks, the car would turn itself on and drain the battery overnight and at times would not shut off without pulling the main fuse. Through research online it was clear that the problem was the Body Control Module (BCM). There are many, many reports online of the 2018 CRV having this problem, so I took it to the dealer and they had never heard of the issue. They tried to do diagnostics but had no way to determine if it was the BCM. Finally, I asked them to just replace the BCM even without a diagnosis, and after 2 months (there were significant back orders of this part) we were able to get it installed in the car and all was fine. Fast forward to last week (April 2025) and it’s starting up again - electronics turning on randomly, battery drain, windows going down in the garage, warning lights all illuminated, dead battery every day - so the BCM that was installed in 2023 has failed AGAIN. Honda absolutely knows about this issue as they have a recall for Accords. However, I paid $1000 to fix it in 2023 and will no doubt pay at least that much now to do it again. Meanwhile, the car is effectively inoperable and can’t be safely operated on the road. Honda needs to RECALL this issue and fix it for good.

The infotainment display on my vehicle's dashboard flashes and emits a "beeping" sound frequently. The only way to remedy the problem is to pull off the road, shut down the engine and restart it. The flashing and beeping is not only annoying, but poses a safety hazard - particularly at night. I belong to a Honda CR-V owners group and my complaint is frequently echoed by other CR-V owners, so the problem is not limited to my vehicle. My Honda dealer will fix the problem for $1,600. The car developed "sticky steering". In a curve the steering would stick and then give way suddenly to continue the turn. The dealer said the electronic power steering rack was binding and it needed to be replaced. The safety issue was the sudden give to the steering which led to some overcorrection. When this problem was first identified in 2018 Honda recalled 54 cars which they said had a faulty part. Now they refuse to recall or pay for the power steering rack even though the problem is identical to the cars they recalled. The dealer's chief mechanic checked out my complaint in the parking lot, said he didn't need to drive it, he knew exactly what the problem was and had seen it in several other cars. There were no warning lamps or messages ever seen with this issue.

Steering sticks at highway speeds, particularly around curves. While driving on the highway I noticed around curves that instead of the steering wheel straightening out on it's own (or with very minimal effort) the steering would stick and I had to force it out of that stick. It was very alarming at first and frankly terrifying with how badly it was stuck. I did have the lane keep assist on so I thought maybe it was that, however I have since been driving this vehicle without the lane keep assist and although it doesn't stick as badly, it does indeed still stick. This issue occurs nearly each time I am going around a curve, sometimes when I am making slight turning maneuvers like lane switches, and rarely while going straight. The exception to that last one is when I have the lane keep assist on, then sometimes it will stick even when going straight. Now, before you start thinkin that this is somehow user error and I am unaware of how these systems are supposed to work. I was a service advisor for Honda for several years, I have driven many Hondas and many other vehicles with these types of systems; this is NOT supposed to happen and this is NOT normal. I have driven this car for just over a year and put over 20K miles on it and there is a distinct difference between normal operation and when the issue occurs. Additionally, there is a metal-on-metal clunk and what I think sounds like a very slight grind when turning the steering wheel fully to the left and right that comes from the steering box and you can feel that the steering wants to push you back in to the opposite direction. I believe that there is a connection between the steering and the lane keep assist for this issue and that it's related to Service Bulletin 18-103. However, I have not yet had this vehicle diagnosed at the dealership since I no longer work at Honda and I do not want to pay their diagnostic fee.

The driver side sun visor will not stay in a stowed position. Instead, it flops down and blocks my view of the road. It has become progressively worse. I have tried moving the visor to the side position so I can see out of the front windshield but that creates another safety issue because it is so loose that it literally swings when I turn or go over any bumps and hits me causing another major safety distraction. By not being able to see without obstruction, my daily drive is much more hazardous. I've shown this to the dealer who said that the issue is "VERY COMMON" and that the failure is due to the internal parts of the visor simply breaking and rendering the car visor to be useless for its' intended purpose and dangerous as it now obstructs view and swings uncontrollably when car is in motion. This is now a constant safety hazard.

Summary of Issue: I am submitting this complaint regarding unresolved safety recall issues and recurring emission system failures with my 2018 Honda CR-V. Safety Recall Unresolved for Over One Year: I received a safety recall notice in early 2024 concerning my vehicle’s fuel pump, but despite numerous follow-ups with both Honda Customer Support and my local dealership, the issue has not been addressed. The necessary parts are not available, and the problem continues to be postponed for over a year, presenting potential safety risks. Emission System Disorder: In 2022, I experienced issues with the emission system in my vehicle, and the case was registered under Case Number 13205072. However, in 2025, the emission system malfunctioned again, and the dealer attributed it to a fuel injector problem. This contradicts the original diagnosis and raises further concerns about a defect in the emission system that may have existed since the vehicle was purchased. Dealer Excuse for Issue: Recently, the dealership has suggested that a faulty fuel injector caused the emission system failure, but I believe the underlying issue could be more serious, potentially related to the recall and the original emission system defect.

Fuel Pump Module improperly molded impeller. Manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall for your vehicle in a timely manner, I thought car manufacturers were required to fix safety recalls within 1 year. This recall came out 12/18/23. 1/25/25 I finally received a letter that parts are now available for repair. When I call the dealership to schedule a repair they tell me the parts are on back order and I am on a list.

Braking alerts also occur for some forks in the road, seemingly alerting for the barrier that is in place.

Honda has failed to provide the necessary parts to fix a safety recall on my vehicle. This recall is affecting my ability to renew my California DMV registration, as the state requires all safety recalls to be completed before renewal. I have contacted my local Honda dealership multiple times, and they have informed me that the parts are unavailable with no estimated repair date. This situation has put me in a difficult position where I cannot legally drive my vehicle due to expired registration, even though the issue is beyond my control. Honda has not provided an alternative solution, such as a loaner car or reimbursement for transportation costs. I request that NHTSA investigate this matter and urge Honda to resolve this issue immediately.

Honda CRV in it’s first signs failed to start. Vehicle ignition would fail to function, there was no respond. I had to shut off for 15 minutes then tried initiating, it would start as if nothing happened. I thought this was due to a battery/electrical issue. At times I thought it would not turn on and I would be left stranded where I was. Second issues began with Honda CRV not responding to gear changes, it would shake in the middle of the road, in between trips. I was praying this was not the transmission. Did have this repaired since I would regularly keep up it’s maintenance and no further damage was announced by dealership. In the scariest of events, Honda CRV stopped in the middle of freeway! Car began to shut off, would not advance further and completely lost power. I had to safely move to the side of the road, exiting freeway very frigthtened. Only warnings signs I had other than the unfortunate events mentioned above, where vehicle failed to operate. It was the last 2 or 3 times I took my vehicle for scheduled maintenance. I began to get information from service center about extremely costly repairs my Honda CRV vehicle needed. There were no other lights, messages or warnings on vehicle dashboard. I automatically though the repairs recommended were an intent to charge me more than needed. I also did not have the amount of money required for the costly the repairs. I did receive a safety recall repair notice on or before behinning of 2024. Around January/February then again January 2025 regarding an “Important Safety Recall.” I do not know why parts had a “limited availability,” if this was “IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL” why then did this take so long to be properly attended? The letter does state that “safety consequences” of not repairing could cause engine issues. Prevent engine from starting, cause vehicle to loose drive power or stall while driving, increasing risk of crash or injury. Please help me with this issue. Thank you in advance for reading.

Multiple vehicle warning lights showing up on dashboard, but only when the weather is cold - usually under 35 degrees F. Once the temperature goes above 35 degrees F, the warning lights disappear. Not exactly sure what is going on, but have read online of a bunch of other owners of 2017 and 2018 Honda CR-V’s experiencing the same exact issue. Would like to get Honda Motor Corp. to cover the cost of repair.

Head Gasket Problem The Engine would have rough starts occasionally for about 20 seconds then drive normal. Started about 1 month intermittently until diagnosis and most likely misfire. Vehicle has been inspected by two Honda dealerships stating coolant is leaking into cylinder 3 and has a sticking fuel injector with burn oil on dipstick due to low coolant. Oil change interval between time of symptoms and diagnosis was normal. The last start caused engine codes to appear and when the idle smoothed out the vehicle would only drive about 10 mph until restarted. Safety of not being able to start the engine reliably and not knowing the mph limitations after a misfire when trying to enter a road was a concern for safety.

This recall 23V-858 was issued in mid-December 2023. Honda has not offered the necessary steps to correct the problem as of this email. The primary concern is in the language of the recall that states "If the fuel pump module is inoperative, the engine may not start or can stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash or injury." My concern is that appears that there is no monitoring of the recalls that NHTSA issues and therefore, apparently no reason for the manufacturer to comply. If this defect can lead to the consequences that NHTSA itself warn of, it is hard to understand why 14 months has elapsed with no corrective action. We would like to make our vehicle safe again as soon as possible

When making a steering correction, there is a tendency for the steering to get stuck in a fixed position for a brief period. It takes an abnormal level of force to overcome this stickiness before it becomes un-stuck and allows a steering change. As a result, there is some jerkiness in the steering, which presents a significant safety issue. It is more noticeable at higher speeds and can be a bit alarming, and a potential collision hazard, particularly if surrounded by other vehicles on a major highway, which I have experienced with this vehicle. I have not yet taken it to a dealer or service provider but have read several forums on-line and tried some of the recommended remedies, such as adjusting the steering column and turning the wheel slowly through full motion, which did not resolve the issue.

In this model of Honda steering wheel looses controls like loosing the steering for fraction of seconds it like steering and wheel movement has lag you feel like it's tiny motion in steering wheel. If you holds steering wheel while driving it tends to not stay in place and you need to keep making tiny motion to keep in place. Dealer did not recognize this as issue and asked to comeback if it's get worst. As driver my fear is for me and my family as if it fails or do malfunction we can loose control of the vehicle and loss of life can occur. Someone needs to carefully inspect it to find what component making is responsible and provide remediation.

Driving on a regular paved road following the speed limit (35 miles per hour) when the automatic emergency braking system engaged randomly; the car speed went from 35 miles to a near and sudden stop and almost caused a rear-end collision. Phantom braking. This is the second time this has happened with no visible reason in terms of road conditions or flying birds, blowing trash, etc. that could explain this. I am afraid to drive the car out of fear that Phantom Braking will cause an accident/potential injuries. I cannot imagine this happening on a freeway at higher speed—distater. I was driving on a viaduct (on the top level with car traffic below and on the first occasion, with a river running below). Could it be that the safety features such as camera sensors are misfiring and putting people in real danger. It makes no sense for safety features such as are making driving more dangerous than without them. I am going to have to spend $250 for Honda mechanic to diagnose and who knows how much to repair it, but it is clearly an engineering/mechanical problem created by Honda. This vehicle also fewer than 40K miles on it despite being a 2018 model. Please, please require Honda to issue a recall before something tragic happens.

This is with reference to 23V-858. I own a Honda Cr-v 2018 model. I got first notice about open recall of Fuel Pump module back in December 2023 follow by couple of other reminders but whenever I called Honda dealership, they said part is not available. It's been more than a year now, I got another notice that part is available and to call any Honda dealership to schedule a repair. But now when I called my nearby Honda service centers, they don't have a date available for appointment in next 30 days. I am really worried of driving it further as this looks to be an issue with Fuel pump or engine. Pelase help me file a complaint against Honda for this inconvenience and help me get this repair done asap.

Fuel injector warning light has come on for the third cylinder. There has been absolutely no impact to gas mileage or overall car efficiency and yet I'm being told I need to replace all of my fuel injectors at a cost of $1,600 in order to clear this code (P219E). This code just started appearing right after I had my fuel pump replaced under warranty recall. I have to presume there is some link and this is not just a coincidence. But that cost for a part that is not even presenting as an issue in terms of overall car performance I don't understand. But without this correction other parts of the car (i.e remote start that I literally just had repaired at a cost of $500) will not work. Certainly seems as if that is linked together. One other issue is that remote start was linked to a hood issue. Evidently an electric connection that seems to zero out at the hood was not presenting. But it does not appear as an issue on the dashboard. The remote start simply stops working. In order to get it replaced it's a $500 new part with a new electronic connection, but no one seems to be able to explain what that electric connection is for or why it does never presents if that connection is not being made. It simply does not appear as an issue on the dashboard. The only awareness is that the remote start simply stops working.

Issues started in 2018 when it was bought. Before the first oil change dipstick oil level keep going 1 inch over the max level. Exhaust smells gas. Dealership said it’s nothing. Keeps happening over and over. Dealership made a recall fix but fix didn’t help. One day while on a trip, suddenly all lights warning display come on the dash, engine lost power, had to make emergency roadside stop. After a while of sputtering, car run ok until I got into a gas station and bought chevron Techron. Engine running good enough to travel. Warning lights still going off all the time. Went to dealership, they said it was bad fuel and told me to use premium. The warning light came off. Fuel level still go 1 over dipstick max line and exhaust smell gas. Dealership it’s not a fuel dilution issue. warning light ssues linger on and off and too much oil in the dipstick and gas smelling issues never got. resolved. Last year I was told I need the fuel injectors changed but was told self pay as not covered by warranty. I argued that it should be covered as issues started on my first oil change. Dealership said they’ll order new injectors but it’s not changed up to now. Yesterday car lost power again, all dash warning light are on . I wrote Honda USA a year ago but didn’t get a reply.

BCM box failed without warning. This caused the brand new battery to die without warning and caused the vehicle to stop recognizing both key fobs, locking me out of the vehicle. Panic alarm randomly went off in the middle of the night. If this happens in an area without cell phone service, I would not have been able to call for roadside assistance. If this happens in an unsafe area, drivers are put at risk. Problem has been diagnosed by two separate mechanics, one of whom works at Honda. There were no warnings. The only warning that seems like a warning in hindsight is that the original car battery failed without warning overnight. That battery was promptly replaced, only to have the above problem occur within two weeks.

I am reporting a dangerous malfunction of the CMBS system, and I don't know if the fuel pump recall, which my Honda dealer will repair on 2/3/25, has any affect on the CMBS, causing the car to brake without cause/randomly, when no vehicle or anything else is near. Last year I was almost hit from behind on the Harlem River Drive when it happened, and last week on the Palisades Parkway, an equally dangerous situation, and the car behind had to swerve into the left lane to avoid hitting me. It has happened a few times when I am on local less populated roads. Honda owner websites have several reports of the same thing I experienced, but Honda reports that it can't find the problem and therefore can't fix it. I have tried to document in what conditions it happens, e.g., broad daylight, night time, accelerating, maintaining same speed, or what other activity is happening on dashboard console, but can't detect a pattern, seems random. I use this car for only myself now, and not my family, for fear we could all be wiped out, even though it was purchased to be a family vehicle. What recourse do owners have?

I received a recall notice by mail in February 2024 that the cars fuel pump is a potential safety hazard and might have vehicle emissions issues that needs resolution. I have been trying to get the affected parts fixed by several Honda dealerships since I received the recall notice. The dealers do not have the parts, don't know when they will receive the parts and can't resolve the problem. I am told that the Honda Motor Company "trickles" out the required components need to resolve the issue and they don't know when they will get parts and can't schedule resolution due to insufficient parts. NO ONE can tell me when my safety issues will be resolved.

The harness inside the left hand side back door was crushed and shorted thereby autolock not functioning. After discussions with dealer and Honda US HQ they would not cover any portion of $530 bill to replaced crush harness cable that is inside the door, Even though nobody has access to this wire as it is inside the door. The only reason why it would be crushed is due to poor or incorrect assembly during manufacturing and over time it shorted out causing the autolock to stop. The only thing that is visible is the black tube that routes the wiring from door frame to inside the door. The problem is crushed wire inside door. On a door that is hardly used (left hand passenger side behind driver door). Due to safety issue, car was repaired at Madison Honda at Madison, NJ for $530+tax. This is an unreasonable repair expense to consumer.

Upon driving the car that evening all warning lights on dashboard lit up, and every warning started popping up on the dash - hill start assist error, power steering problem, parking brake problem, vehicle stability assist problem, etc. Car drove without being affected but the warnings continued cycling through on the dashboard. Took it back to the dealer I bought it from, and they said the battery wasn't tightened down all the way. I drove it and the next day all the lights came back on, and cycled through all the warning system errors. It has since stopped again, but this seems to be an issue with the 2018 CRVs.

Honda dealer service has replaced Fuel pump as part of recall for my vehicle. After replacing the fuel pump, my car battery gets drained off very often and not able to start. I checked the battery and other parts including alternator in Firestone, everything looks good. So this is something to do with Fuel pump recall which was causing the battery to drain out.
