I own a 2017 Honda Accord “Touring” model that has developed an intermittent audio problem (described below) that is a safety issue because it causes serious driver distraction and impatience to reach a destination to turn the car off. There is NO WAY for the driver to stop the problem without turning the car completely off. Despite numerous reports from others (documented below), Honda has not issued a recall. It is hoping that a “goodwill discount” of 40% or so (offered only if the owner knows to demand it) will prevent a recall. The ONLY fix is to have a Honda dealer replace the OEM “audio head unit”. Without the “goodwill discount”, the installed cost is $1,400 - $1,600 to fix a condition that is obviously out of warranty. The problem is that in hot (85+) weather, even with the audio system turned OFF, a modest “scratching” sound begins from all speakers, gradually becoming a loud, continuous static which lasts for 3 or 4 minutes and then gradually tapers off to silence. If I turn audio power ON while this is occurring, the static instantly becomes intolerably loud until I turn audio power off; then the scratching continues for a few more minutes until it gradually disappears. When this problem is not occurring, the audio system plays normally. This problem is significantly frequent. 10,000 to 15,000 such cars were sold. •CarComplaints.com lists 170 such complaints under the Electrical System and Other Problems categories. •CarProblemZoo.com lists 99 general equipment complaints; the static noise issue stands out as the most common recent problem.. •DriveAccord.net, a popular owner forum: “2017 Accord Radio Static” has around 470 posts. That is a total of about 700+ reports of this problem, on 5 -7% of these vehicles. That is a safety problem that must be recalled! Problem first occurred in May 2025. More frequent in hot weather: 3 times in last 3 days. Symptoms occur randomly and don't last long enough to reach a dealer for diagnosis.

It is an ongoing situation. I am the only driver of the car, and would never letanyone else drive it, due to this. I happens very regularly.

This is happening a couple of times a week now. With the audio system locking up while driving making for the audio volume to not be able to be adjusted. They audio system is locking up and there is no way to reset the system while driving. There is not always a place to stop and shut the car off then restart -which is how I have been dealing with this issue for many years now. Sometimes, I am on the highway in heavy traffic while this happens. It is a massive distraction having to listen to blaring commercials that have increased volumes that jars drivers' focus on the situation surrounding me. I have tried holding the power button down for over 5 straight minutes without anything helping. I have tried multiple buttons hoping for a reset... still nothing. Today, this happened again in heavy traffic without a place to stop and do an ignition off/on... as this is how I have been dealing with this issue. The audio system has no volume knob, only flattened button. This happening in heavy traffic is dangerous. My car is a 2017 Honda Accord Touring Hybrid. It appears that this is a known issue with other owners of the 2016-17 Honda Accord Touring Hybrid. This has been happening since the car was new. it's REALLY OLD and dangerous.

In addition, the front driver's side door seat control buttons failed to respond while being pressed. Two local dealers were contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 180,000.

Several times when driving at speeds of 50-60mph with my foot steady on the accelerator, the car will suddenly start to slow down so that I am going only, say, 40 mph. Either at the same time or shortly after this occurs, multiple warning lights/messages appear on the dash: Collision Mitigation System, Brake System, ACC System all appear and messages say they are not working, which is true, although the brakes seemed to still work fine. When this occurred the first time, I was able to pull off the highway and stop, unsure of what to do. I continued to try and drive because I was in the middle of a long trip. The slow downs kept happening intermittently, but I discovered that if I pumped the accelerator a couple of times, the speed would be restored. However, this was still a dangerous situation because I never knew when it would occur, so I stayed in the right lane and had to avoid any situations requiring confident acceleration, such as crossing a busy street. In total, this has occurred while I’m driving approximately 10-15 times, but the warning lights may or may not go away after a while, or after stopping and re-starting the car. I took car to DAR Cars Honda Fairfax (Virginia) dealer who updated software and said it should be fixed. Next day as I was driving about 50 mph, the slowdown occurred again and the warning lights came on. I drove back to the dealer, during which time the slowdown occurred one more time with me pumping accelerator to get power back, and left it with them. They could not reproduce the symptoms. I had them keep and drive it another day to see if they could make the slowdown occur, but it did not, so I picked up the car. However, I feel that this is a dangerous situation and I can no longer drive this car confidently on long trips or in situations where I need acceleration that I can rely on.

Honda issued a recall for the torque converter on my 2017 Honda Accord. I had received the paperwork in June of this year and have been battling with them ever since. I had to have my transmission replaced due to repeated issues with my torque converter code appearing and lose of power over a year ago. After losing power going uphill several times and being fearful of causing a crash, I had to have it repaired. In January 2024, I paid an independent car repair facility(DynoTrans in Temecula, CA) $4,200 to replace my entire transmission because of this recurring issue. I have submitted the receipts from the facility to Honda and because they requested "proof" of our cash payment, screenshots of both mine and my husband's bank statements showing cash withdrawals(since we paid the owner in cash in order to get a cash discount), and Honda is denying to reimburse us for this repair, even though it is a nationwide recall, a known issue, that I had paid for out of my pocket to have repaired prior to them ever issuing a recall due to this recurrent issue with the torque converter. I feel like this is an illegitimate denial and therefore am filing this complaint. Sandra P. is the representative that I have been in contact with from Honda.

Issues with the radio. Unbearable, ear piercing static coming from speakers. You can turn the volume all the way down and even power off the radio and it continues to have loud static coming from speakers. You have to pull over and turn the car off to stop the noise and alot of times it will not stop. There is no way to stop the noise. The car had this same issue when I bought it from a honda dealer. The dealer replaced the radio and 1 year later im having the same issue and the radio is 1 month out of warranty. I was quoted 1400 dollars for a new radio plus labor. Just doing a quick Google search, this seems to be a common problem with this year make and model vehicle. There are no recalls for the radio at this time. This is definitely a safety issue that needs to be addressed. Ive contacted honda america and have a case started.. please follow up on this issue... thanks

Honda Service Bulletin 21-018 extends the warranty on 2018-2020 Honda Accords for the A/C condenser to 10 years from the original date of purchase with unlimited miles. This afternoon, I paid over $1,700 to the dealer for a fully diagnosed and repaired condenser replacement. Given the near-identical failure mechanism and that the faulty condensers in question are likely from the same production-era manufacturing process, I respectfully request that Honda consider extending the same 10-year, unlimited-mileage warranty coverage to affected 2017 Accord models.

The audio system in my car has gone bust - there is a periodic loud static noise that blasts out of the speakers at maximum volume and can not be turned off, even by setting the audio power off. It was brought to the Honda dealership and confirmed the audio system. The noise is so loud and startling that it causes the driver to easily lose focus on the road. It can also be so unexpecting that it can cause sudden jolts in movement, endangering the roadway. When looking online, this seems to be a common issue with the 2017 accord model ex-l as there have been many forums of people posting their same complaints. To make matters worse, there are no after-market replacements that work with the ex-ls dual screen setup and getting the actual part is in indefinite back order. It appears that Honda simply wants us to cope with the dangerous issue.

Cylinder 3 misfire as indicated through an obd2 scan caused by a faulty spark plug and igntion coil. This is the second time these needed to be replaced when the vehicle is at 58,000 miles. The driver seat belt has locked up, rendering it unusable. My mechanic confirmed that I needed a replacement seat belt; it cannot be repaired. I paid for a replacement seat belt 17 June 2024 from Val Strough Honda dealership in Seaside CA, a special order. Seat belts for 2017 Honda Accords have been back-ordered ever since. I have checked back every couple of months; still back-ordered 13 months later. At one time the dealer said there were 59 back-orders for that part. The dealer received one July 6th which went to a customer who had waited 2 years for it. Seat belts are required in California. I drive as many as 20,000 miles each year. If there is an accident, I have no seat belt that protects me from major injury or worse.

I am writing to formally raise a serious safety concern regarding a known and recurring defect in the infotainment/head unit system of my 2017 Honda Accord. Like many other Honda owners, I am experiencing unpredictable and extremely loud static or popping sounds through the speakers, which occur without warning while the vehicle is in operation. This issue significantly compromises vehicle safety. The sudden, blaring static drowns out critical audio alerts such as collision warnings, lane departure signals, and other safety-related notifications, placing me and others at increased risk while driving. Upon bringing this issue to a certified Honda dealership, I was informed that the head unit cannot be disconnected, as it is integrated with the vehicle’s essential safety features. In other words, I am forced to choose between enduring a hazardous and disruptive audio malfunction or disabling key safety systems entirely—an unacceptable situation for any driver, particularly in a vehicle marketed as reliable and safe. Furthermore, I was advised that the only known solution is a full replacement of the head unit, which comes at a cost of approximately $1,800 out of pocket. It is deeply concerning that Honda is expecting customers to bear the cost of repairing a defect that is both widespread and clearly rooted in manufacturing or design flaws. Given the scope and severity of this issue, I urge Honda to take immediate and responsible action by issuing a recall or providing an extended warranty repair for all affected vehicles. I am requesting a formal response regarding how Honda plans to resolve this matter in my case and ensure the safety of its customers moving forward.

While driving my 2017 Honda Accord, I suddenly lost the ability to accelerate when pressing the gas pedal entering the freeway. At the same time, the check engine light flashed along with multiple other warning lights, which caused the car to go into limp mode. This put my safety at risk, as I was unable to speed up in traffic, creating a dangerous situation. Same situation occurred the next day - narrowly avoiding the accident. The car is not safe to drive. Honda dealership determined issue was due to a fuel injector failure, on a very well-maintained vehicle it seems strange for this issue to come up. I believe this issue is directly related to the faulty fuel pump which is being recalled for many 2017-2018 ACCORDs as the defective fuel pump caused excessive strain on the fuel injectors over time, it could explain why so many owners, including myself, are experiencing premature failures. Given the safety risks involved and the growing number of similar reports, I urge NHTSA to investigate this issue and hold Honda accountable for addressing the problem and cover the cost of the injection repairs

Radio emits loud static, on or off. Sometimes starts low and builds to high volume, sometimes full blast without warning. Cannot be silenced without stopping car and turning off. Dangerous especially in traffic. Honda defect reporting phone line acted as if they never heard such a thing, same from the service manager where the car was purchased new. Different honda dealer service manager said same. I told him online forums were loaded with reports just like mine. I asked him to take out his phone and search 2017 honda accord radio static....he said yeah I guess there alot of reports of this issue. I made one last at my original dealership to see if there was a recall in the works for the defective radio head. New from honda 2300 dollars just for the part. Definitely a safety Hazzard from a defective part. Problem is so pervasive multiple repair services have sprung up for this series of radios. All told cost me 500 dollars to do myself. Radio head has many functions including back up camera which is gone with fuse pulled. Honda lied to me when they acted as if they never heard of such failures. Last service manager admitted we change a couple of these radio heads a week.

The orange engine light flashed two or three times on the instrument panel but that was it. The owners manual states that a flashing orange engine light indicates a misfire. No other lights prior to that moment had illuminated on the instrument panel. The car is a 2017 Accord Sport with approximately 101k miles. Purchased in November 2021, this is the first time there’s ever been a problem and my car is maintained regularly. The car was towed to a local mechanic and I was told there was a misfire on cylinder 3, the valve spring is broken, the valve is bent, and the timing chain is loose. I was told I need a new engine. I don’t understand what happened because there was no warning or indication that anything was wrong. The safety concern is that the car died while driving on the highway and the vibration and jerking was scary trying to control the car while traveling at high speeds. I called Honda directly and I was told that my vin isn’t included in any recalls so there’s nothing they can do to help. I know there was a service bulletin in 2019 for the cam chain tensioner but I don’t know if this car was serviced since I bought it in 2021. I can’t afford to replace the engine and I’m still making payments. My VIN isn’t included with the fuel pump or oil pump recalls despite now including the L4 2.0 engines. This is my third Honda and I’ve never had anything like this happen before. The customer service rep said there was nothing they could do to help after confirming that my vin wasn’t included in any of the recalls. I had the car towed to a Honda dealership earlier this week for a deeper look into how and why this happened and the tech said the engine suffered a catastrophic failure. He also stated that he’s never seen anything like this before - referring to the broken valve spring. Valve springs are not wear and tear items.

I had the radio replaced under warranty but the problem was never solved and only gave a 90day warranty on a refurbished unit. I complained about the refurbished unit and they refused to put a new unit under the waranty. Honda has known about the radio issue creating a very loud static pulsating noise thats unbearable and distracting while driving causing distraction and you would not even be able to hear an emergency vehicle or anything near you while this noise is pulsating at a very high decibels. This problem is all over the internet with people having issues with the very loud noise being distracting and unbearable. Seems this only happens on the hybrid touring model. There is a serious problem with this being a safety issue being very distracting and unbearable. I also get a noise warning exceeding the normal decibels required. I believe the radio is over heating and also might cause a fire in the dash.

Loud static noise from speakers When sound is off / muted , this is a concern to my safety because it’s completely loud making my ears hurt, not only that it’s very difficult to hear around my surroundings with this loud static noise playing, definitely not safe to drive and there is no way to turn it off unless I completely turn off the vehicle. It has not been inspected by anyone or dealership which is why I have made this report.

I am writing to bring to your attention a serious safety issue I have experienced with my 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid Touring, which has 58,757 miles on it and has been diligently maintained with all scheduled services up to date by Honda dealership. On March 18, 2025, I reported a brake fluid leak originating from underneath the brake pedal inside the cabin. Upon taking the vehicle to an authorized Honda dealership for inspection, I was informed that the root cause is a faulty brake booster Simulator. What is particularly concerning is that there was no warning light, alert, or indication of this issue prior to the visible brake fluid leak. The only reason this dangerous condition was discovered was due to visibly seeing brake fluid inside the vehicle cabin. This issue has been reported to Honda customer service center, however their focus was only not vehicle millage being out warranty without offering any root cause or resolution. Honda dealership stated that this very uniqe they haven't face this type failure.

The speakers and sound system emit a VERY loud static sound that is often accompanied by computerized sounds. It usually happens after I've been driving the vehicle for about 10-15 minutes. It seems to be coming from the head unit/radio unit, but the sound will continue even if I completely turn off the radio/sound system. It's so loud that it's often hard to concentrate and is going to damage my hearing if it persists. It started happening shortly after my car turned over to 100K miles. There are hundreds and maybe thousands of other Honda Accord owners who have posted online about this VERY same issue (usually 2017) and the Honda dealers recommend replacing the entire unit to the tune of $4-5,000. This is a manufacturer defect!! The ONLY thing that stops the noise is to pull over, turn the car off, and wait 10-15 minutes, but sometimes the sound starts right up again. I have not yet taken my car to the dealer or a repair shop due to the hundreds/thousands of other posts online stating the exact same problem and the recommendation by Honda being to replace a part that was manufactured defectively. The sound is VERY loud and I cannot drive my car very far unless I just want to put up with it and try to ignore it. Even if I put headphones in my ears (which I don't when driving as that's unsafe), I can STILL hear the static. Honda needs to issue a recall for this problem and fix it!

There appears to be a model-wide problem with 2017 Honda Accord audio system that manifests in screeching static noise through audio speakers (whether the radio is turned on or not) at decibels in excess of 100 (sounds like a lawnmower being operated inside a closed 4 door sedan). This noise comes with no warning (or waring lights) and shocks the senses that can cause erratic vehicle operation. Once the noise starts, it will last varying lengths of time that include in excess of 12 minutes. The only means to make it stop is by turning off the car, which is not easy or safe if highway driving. The screeching is so loud, it is impossible to hear emergency sirens or honking horns, making this a serious safety issue. This is also very distracting -- imagine a passenger screaming in your ear as loud as they can non-stop -- simply not conducive to safe driving! Honda of America acts like they have never heard of this issue (I can see that many, many 2017 Accord owners have reported this very issue over the last several years). Dealer diagnostics reveal nothing. They only recommend replacing the entire audio head unit ($4K) and owner expense. For a car that is only 7 years old, it is not working as intended. A recall seems warranted. This has been going on over a month now and is getting progressively worse. Please help us. [XXX] Please open this video to hear the problem. LOUD crackling static noise coming from all stereo speakers randomly. Nothing can stop this loud static noise, except by pulling over off the road and restarting the vehicle. This happens randomly and does not matter whether you are using bluetooth or not using bluetooth, plugged in charging using USB or listening to music on phone with USB. The radio can be completely shut off and nothing playing or plugged in and it will start with decibels so loud it is dangerous to adults and children's hearing and again can only be stopped by pulling off the road and restarting the vehicle, the silence of static may only last a few minutes to an hour but will start again every single time I drive my 17 Accord. There are many forums out there with 17 Honda Accord owners having the same issue. I believe Honda has addressed the Pilot, Odyssey, ridgeline etc. models for infotainment problems, but I really think they should address the 2017 Accord also, this is impossible to drive this Accord to anywhere of distance.

The problem with the LKAS manifests in the following ways: The system unexpectedly disengages without warning, failing to provide lane-keeping assistance. Erratic steering corrections occur even when the vehicle is properly centered in the lane, causing instability. The system frequently displays error messages indicating LKAS failure, requiring manual intervention to reset or disable the feature. At times, the system does not activate as intended, even when road conditions and markings are clear and well-defined. I have attempted to troubleshoot the issue by ensuring that the vehicle’s sensors and cameras are clean and unobstructed. However, the problem persists. I have also reported the issue to a Honda dealership, but they have not been able to provide a definitive resolution. This malfunction creates a serious safety concern, as an unpredictable LKAS system can lead to unintentional lane drifting or sudden corrective actions that may startle the driver or lead to a loss of control. Given that LKAS is a key component of Honda's driver-assistance technology, I believe this issue warrants further investigation by NHTSA to determine whether it constitutes a broader defect in the 2017 Honda Accord Hybrid model. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate this matter and determine if similar complaints have been reported. If this issue is determined to be a widespread defect, I urge NHTSA to take appropriate action, including a potential recall or mandatory software update from Honda. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. I would appreciate any updates regarding your findings and any further steps I should take. 2017 Honda Accord first noticed a tachometer that at town/hwy speeds would fluctuate a few rpm (surge and reduce) going down the road. Took to Honda dealer and they stated flushing the transmission fluid and to do so every 30K and have continued to do so, the surge and reduce subsided but, we also notice a loud cold start tic in the engine. After starting up cold, and engaging in drive the vehicle jerks and feels to stall suddenly causing forward motion of driver to the extent that the seat belt locks until the engine is normal temperature. This is a major problem in traffic with other vehicles around for your car to suddenly jerk back and may even cause rear end accidents from other vehicles behind putting driver and surrounding vehicles/drivers at risk for an accident. This tic and jerking in this 2017 Honda Accord V6 EX-L started at around 120K miles and has continued to tic and jerk until the engine is a normal temperature Tac surge/reduce has not been as prevalent with transmission fluid flushing. When vehicle is up to full temp the tic and jerking subside until normal temp the jerking/stalling continues at any rate of speed. There have been no warning lamps or messages since the onset of this problem. This 2017 Accord currently has 150K
