ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

I purchased this car in winter, summertime comes around and it’s very hot in the car. I turn my car on and it connects to my phone. Ear piercing static comes through the radio. I’ve tried to buy sunshades, sit with my air on to cool the car down, and also pull over, turn the car off and on. It does not stop still. My car usually stops 20 minutes into driving. Then will start again. It is very scary and has startled me while driving. This is distracting and these cars are too expensive for this issue to not be resolved. I don’t even like to drive my car because even when it is not blaring hot, it still does it. I can’t go through a drive thru or roll my windows down or even listen to music in this car! It is unbearable and ridiculous that this is not resolved. I have not gotten quoted on a price to fix it but I’ve done some research and have seen people pay $700-$1000 to get it fixed. I wish I would’ve done more research on issues because I would have never bought this car. Please look into this and everyone else’s complaints and start a recall! I can’t even hear myself think while driving let alone hear anything else around me!!

I left work on an unusually hot day, and several minutes into my trip, a deafening static noise began emanating from the dashboard area. I was frantically hitting all the radio and air buttons while driving, but I could not stop the noise, so I pulled over on the side of the road. The noise stopped after I turned off the car. I inspected the battery connections and the grounding cable, but found no obvious culprit. The noise resumed when I began driving again, but did not happen the next morning. The deafening static was unpredictable and unresolvable over the next few weeks, and it was so loud at times that my noise canceling headphones did not prevent pain in my ears. It happened on intermittent occasions, in all instances while I was driving on busy roads or interstates, and several times leaving me and my child stranded in unsafe conditions while waiting on help. I finally discovered through forum chats and online videos that this is a common occurrence with my specific car; that the source of the problem is a known faulty amp that overheats and causes interference; and importantly, that the problem occurs only when the outside temperature is excessively hot. Due to the specific conditions required to trigger the interference, the static noise is impossible to replicate on command, rendering troubleshooting efforts prohibitively costly and unlikely to bear fruit. For reference, there are videos of the problem online with search terms "Honda Accord static noise".

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The Infotainment system crashes when using Apple Carplay. This is troublesome because the navigation seizes and does not give you any information to where you're going. The screen turns dark until you either restart the car or unplug and replug the phone which is DANGEROUS to do while driving the car. However when I use Apple Carplay on my wife's 2017 CR-V, same phone same car manufacturer, different model and year but there are no infortainment system crashes. Clearly this points to the software operating system running the infortainment system, on forums people reference that version is too old and crashes. Please help; driving this car as is, becomes dangerous and risky. Please apply pressure to Honda to fix this problem before someone dies. I'm the original owner of this car.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

I am writing to bring urgent attention to a significant and concerning issue affecting the 2016 Honda Accord, specifically the audio head unit, which is causing severe static noise through the vehicle's speakers. This issue poses a serious safety risk to drivers, passengers, and others on the road, and I believe it warrants immediate action, including a formal recall. The static noise occurs regardless of whether the audio system is on or off. This interference compromises the ability to clearly hear essential sounds while driving, including emergency vehicle sirens, honking, and other important auditory cues that are vital for safe driving. The loud, distracting static significantly reduces the ability to focus on the road and may cause delayed responses to critical situations, including traffic accidents, pedestrian crossings, and other road hazards. Safety concerns include but are not limited to the following: inability to hear emergency alerts such as sirens and horns which could result in delayed or incorrect reactions when an ambulance, fire truck, or police vehicle is approaching, potentially leading to dangerous situations where first responders are unable to get through traffic quickly or safely, distracted driving, reducing ability to focus on the driving task, and ability to hear other critical sounds, such as tire issues (like a flat or blowout), or the sound of other cars around you, and can medically affect hearing of drivers. Given the severity of these issues, I urge an investigation to this matter thoroughly and issue a recall for the affected 2016 Honda Accord models and other year models that are affected. This would ensure the safety of drivers, passengers, and others on the road. Addressing this problem promptly will not only safeguard lives but also demonstrate a commitment to consumer safety and quality. I appreciate your attention to this urgent matter and trust that the necessary steps will be taken to resolve it as soon as possible.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: AUTOMATIC EMERGENCY BRAKING

I have been having issues with my Honda Accord with the electrical system. Over the past couple of years I have had to take my car to get serviced for the battery, alternator and other electrical issues. Several times I had to take my car to get checked because the ABS, power steering, traction control and brake lights intermittently light up at the same time. I was told it was a battery issue but now years later I am being told it is the VSA modulator. I am frustrated because the Honda dealership i have taken it to has failed to identify this issue when it has been repeatedly occurring and now that my warranty is expired now it is being explained that I have to fix this out of my pocket.

My radio is throwing static. You can turn it off, turn the volume to 0, nothing helps. It only gets louder, and from my understanding this has happened too 100+ people. They have the same make/ model/ year as mine and they are all experiencing the same problem with no solution. I feel not only my safety, but other peoples safety are put at risk. This is a severe distraction from the road, that is something that would result in a wreck because of the sound. Lots of dealerships say the vehicles experiencing this problem need a whole entire head unit, or new radio. That’s $5,000, and more. It’s ridiculous that we are all experiencing the same problem and all having the same trouble and nothing is being done about the issue. With almost 100+ people having the same exact problem, there should have been a recall a long time ago. This is absolutely dangerous for drivers, children, and passengers of the vehicle. I ask that something be done about this immediately. I am afraid to drive my own car places because of this issue. It needs to be resolved asap. This is no longer a “us” problem. This issue has everything to do with the manufacturing of the vehicle.

The vehicle head unit is emitting a loud static sound just minutes after the vehicle is turned on. Sound only stops when vehicle is turned off. I purchased this vehicle because of the stereo system and since this problem started I am not able to hear my music, either from Bluetooth FM radio any source. I drive uber to make a living and this prevents me from working because the noise is deafening causing pain to my passengers. I have looked online and it’s a lot of people complaining on this issue with no way out. When we visit Honda we have to pay the diagnostic fee for them to tell us the issue is the stereo and need to be changed for over $1000 which is unfair for them to charge us for a defective unit which is happening to their vehicles. I am putting this complaint in because someone should be able to hold them accountable for their clients especially spending $40,000+ for the upgraded version for the amazing head unit and now not being able to utilize the unit.

Persistent and Excessive Speaker Noise in Honda Accord My Honda Accord is experiencing a severe and persistent issue with extremely loud, constant static noise emanating from all speakers, even when the radio is turned completely off. Our 2016 Accord Sedan EX-L suddenly in the past month has started having the issue with a very loud static noise emitting from all of the vehicle speakers shortly after starting up, and will not stop until the vehicle is turned off. The two displays seem slow to turn back on after this occurs and this occurs more frequently when the outdoor temperature is 85+ degrees Fahrenheit. From a search online, this seems to be a common problem for the 2016-2017 Accords, and so this should definitely be addressed by NHTSA and the manufacturer. The noise is pretty alarming and distracting and will likely cause many accidents for owners with this same issue, please do something about this.

Loud, pulsing, static sound from the car speakers. I was driving home after purchasing this car and an impossibly loud static sound came from the speakers even though the audio unit was powered off. I thought I had been hit by a truck and went off the road. There was some damage to the body and the underside of the car, but I was able to drive it back home. I pulled the fuse for the radio thinking that was the problem, but the sound returned, still blasting static from the speakers and now my side cameras and blind spot warnings do not work. This is not just an annoying problem, it is a serious safety issue. Even when I am driving with hearing protection the noise drowns out all other traffic sounds. This static is full volume, measured at 90 DBA on a calibrated Radio Shack 33-2055 sound level meter. I can't drive the car because of the hearing damage, and because of the intermittent nature of the problem, it can surprise you and cause a crash. It is the most distracting thing I have ever had to deal with while driving a car.

The malfunction is of the audio/speaker system. Periodically it will begin making a horrible pulsing screeching noise without any warning. It continues to make this horrible noise at a deafening level causing a huge uncomfortable distraction while driving. Turning down the volume on the audio system has no effect. Completely powering off the audio system has no effect. The noise continues relentlessly until you completely shut off the vehicle. One instance happened while I was driving home from work and sitting in traffic on the freeway. I rolled down all the windows to try to minimize the sound bouncing around inside the car and the sound was so loud it was making the other drivers around me uncomfortable. I had to learn to drive home with earplugs to help prevent myself from going deaf. The only relief has come since I completely removed the fuse for the audio system, however now I am left without access to multiple features on my vehicle. Research on the internet is showing that this seems to be a common issue with this make/model/year of vehicle but the manufacturer is not willing to acknowledge it. Because of this I have not bothered to take it to a dealership to have them inspect it.

It was a hundred degree day when this incident first occurred. When I turned the car on after 5 seconds, the speaker started to make a loud static noise that got unbearably loud, and it spread from speaker to speaker, until all the speakers in the car were blaring a staticky sound. It didn't matter if my phone was plugged in, or if the radio was on, or if the sound system was turned off, it continued to make the sound. I turned off the car and turned it back on and it immediately started again. It didn't matter if I was parked or if I was driving, it would make the noise. Eventually, this sound got louder and louder, and then the speakers stopped working altogether, no radio or music sound would come on. I turned the car off, then back on, and the static noise came back. It happened again the next day (another 100 degree day) and so I had a mechanic look at the car the next day when it was slightly cooler, and he could not replicate the problem. The speakers went back to normal the next couple times that I turned on the car. I have a video that recorded the static noise.

No warnings whatsoever just spontaneous static that doesn’t stop

The Radio emits static noise VERY Loud sometimes when the car is driven. It is so loud sometimes that my grandchild will scream and cry. Sometimes it is just a small static noise that doesn't get louder, but you never know. I have to stop and turn my car off and restart to try and get it to stop, sometimes it works other times it doesn't. This happens when the radio is off or on. And when you try and turn the radio off, it won't turn off periodically. It seems to happen more when someone is in the passenger seat, so I thought it might have something to do with the weight sensor, but no.. it also does it when you are by yourself. And it is happening almost every single time we get in the car. I have been looking this up and a lot of people say they just unplug the fuse for the radio, but I shouldn't have to do that. If there are this many people having the same issue, they should do a recall on it. The noise is so loud and sudden sometimes that it shocks you and could potentially make someone have a wreck. There have been no warning messages on the screen and this first happened a few months ago. I have not had it inspected by anyone yet. I can get a recording from the car the next time it does it and send it. It just the fact that you will be driving down the road not expecting it and it goes off full blast static noise which has almost made me crash several times. It's very startling.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

We were driving our 2016 Honda Accord LX down the highway and our vehicle started sputtering, causing us to swerve and gain control/slow down rapidly. The car could no longer accelerate to high speeds (could only go about 35 MPH), and a bunch of engine lights came on the dash. Upon taking it to a Honda dealer, they diagnosed the problem with the high-pressure fuel pump. Apparently our year of Honda Accord (2013-2017 models with 2.4L engine) had a recall on the fuel pump system, but that recall was associated with the fuel pump impeller. This existing recall number is 34V-858, MFR Campaign ID VIJ. It does seem odd that I would face a similar issue to this recall, but this high-pressure fuel pump failure is not covered under the same recall program according to Honda. I did submit for potential reimbursement under this recall, but Honda denied our claim. Could this issue be related to the same issue and therefore should this be part of that recall? This was a dangerous incident that happened going at high speeds on the highway, and we were simply lucky that our swerving didn't lead to an accident. Given that a more recent recall from Honda (2023-2024 Honda Accord) is associated specifically with the high-pressure fuel pump failure (Recall # 24V-763), I think it's reasonable that this same issue could apply to older models of the Accord as well.

VISIBILITY/WIPER

I was driving in the city at a speed of thirty mph when my wife, a passenger in the car, and myself, heard a loud pop. Suddenly I was unable to see the traffic which was following me because my rear window was completely shattered. Since I had traffic behind me and it was raining hard, I decided to drive a few more blocks to seek refuge and help at a nearby Car dealership, which specializes in glass repair. There they taped and covered the rear window opening in plastic after removing the shattered windshield and vacuuming up the many glass pieces which fell into the car. I have had to contact my insurance company, as both Honda Corporation and the warranty I have remaining on the vehicle will not cover the repair. This I was told by by the Honda dealer where I purchased the vehicle.

Please note this is reported by tens of thousands of 2016-2017 Honda Accord. When the inside temperature is above a threshold, there is continuous high volume static and high pitched sound coming from all speakers. The head unit does not respond to any user interaction like switching off the radio system or volume control or anything. The high volume and high pitched static sound just continues. This poses a safety hazard because of the super loud noise inside the car and cannot hear anything from outside, plus it will cause deafness after prolonged high noise with high pitch and static. It causes distraction for the driver as well, particularly on highways. The only way to stop this sound is to stop the car, switch off the engine and wait for some time and start again. But still the high static sound may come anytime after , if the temperature is still warm or high. This is an issue with the Head Unit fan as reported by many. There is no warning and the high volume sound suddenly comes out from all speakers, startling the driver and passengers. This is a serious issue and will cause distraction and annoyance for drivers. My 2016 has been experiencing audio issues for the past few months. There is a loud static noise that comes through my speakers at random times. When this happens, there is no way to control the audio unless I pull the car over and let the care sit for at least 30 minutes. The static will randomly increase and decrease on its own when this happens. I have tried to control this by just keeping the audio system turned off, but have recently found that doesn't help. The static will still occur randomly and not shut off. This is very dangerous when trying to drive and you can't control your audio system. The static noise can get pretty loud which has now caused me to stop driving my Honda. (which is awful) My car is still in very good shape and now just sitting while I try to find a replacement audio unit which will will cost roughly about $1000 to repair. This appears to be a common Honda issue as I have read so many similar reviews online. I'm hoping Honda will do what's right and put a recall out to help it's customers with resolving what now appears to be a common issue caused by the original factory setting. Overall, this has been very frustrating for myself as I only have one vehicle and hoping that Honda will do something to help it's customers.

My 2016 Honda Accord has approximately 137,000 miles. I change the oil, filters, etc. at regular intervals. One night I noticed a ticking when going uphill. I thought it might be a belt.(no warning lights) The next day I had to go somewhere, and on my way back the ticking got noticeably worse and then the engine started screeching. Massive loss of power. Shortly after, a loud bang/thump noise and the car stopped running. I pulled into a school parking lot, got the car towed. Next day the mechanic where the car was towed said I threw a rod, and it went through the engine block and the oil pan; and my engine would have to be replaced. I have not (yet) replaced the engine (waiting for estimate). Spoke to Honda corporate (case #XXXX) to see if they could help me out (financially) with the replacement, because everyone I talked to said it's highly unusual for a Honda to throw a rod with mileage this low (anecdotal I know, but still). I spoke to local Honda dealer (Honda corporate said it would have to be inspected by Honda) but have not had it towed there yet.
