2014 HARLEY-DAVIDSON FLHX Complaints and Recall Information

The 2014 HARLEY-DAVIDSON FLHX has 1 complaint and 5 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to saddlebag detachment. One complaint details the saddle pins becoming inoperable, causing the right saddlebag to detach while the motorcycle was stationary.

Common Issues

  • Saddlebag detachment. The saddle pins may fail, allowing the saddlebag to detach from the motorcycle even at low speeds or when stopped.

There are five recalls affecting various systems including the clutch assembly, brakes, and saddlebag mounting components. These recalls address defects that may impair essential controls and safety equipment on the motorcycle.

Recalls

  • Clutch assembly air intrusion. NHTSA recall 13V515000 affects 19,597 motorcycles. The clutch master cylinder may allow air in or have an incorrect clutch release plate, preventing clutch disengagement and making it difficult to slow or stop. Dealers will rebuild the clutch master cylinder and install the correct release plate free of charge.
  • Front brake line pinching. Recall 14V319000 covers 66,421 ABS-equipped motorcycles. The front brake line may be pinched, increasing fluid pressure and risking a front wheel lock-up which could cause a crash. Dealers will inspect and replace damaged lines and install cable straps to prevent pinching.
  • Saddlebag mounting receptacles. Recall 15V427000 affects 185,272 motorcycles with inadequate mounting receptacles. Saddlebags may separate during riding, creating a hazard. Dealers will replace the mounting receptacles free of charge.
  • Clutch lift loss after parking. Recall 15V216000 involves 106,966 motorcycles. The clutch master cylinder may not generate enough lift to disengage the clutch after prolonged parking, increasing crash risk due to unexpected movement. Dealers will flush the clutch system and rebuild the master cylinder at no cost.
  • Clutch master cylinder component failure. Recall 14V537000 affects 105,746 motorcycles. A component failure in the clutch master cylinder may reduce pressure needed to keep the clutch disengaged, causing the motorcycle to creep forward unexpectedly. Dealers will rebuild the affected master cylinders free of charge.

Owners facing repeated repairs or unresolved safety recalls should review their state’s lemon laws. These laws may provide protections for buyers encountering persistent defects or warranty service issues involving safety-critical systems.

POWER TRAIN:CLUTCH ASSEMBLY

Harley-Davidson Motor Company (Harley-Davidson) notified the agency on April 9, 2015, that they are recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Electra Glide Ultra Classic (FLHTCU), Electra Glide Ultra Classic - Twin Cooled (FLHTCU TC), Ultra Limited (FLHTK), Police Electra Glide (FLHTP), Street Glide (FLHX), Street Glide Special (FLHXS), CVO Street Glide (FLHXSE), 2015 Electra Glide Ultra Classic Low (FLHTCUL), Ultra Limited Low (FLHTKL), Electra Glide Ultra Classic Low - Twin Cooled (FLHTCUL TC), Road Glide Special (FLTRXS), Road Glide (FLTRX), and 2014 CVO Road King (FLHRSE) motorcycles. On July 31, 2015, Harley-Davidson expanded the recall to cover an additional 61,065 motorcycles. In the affected motorcycles, the clutch master cylinder may lose the ability to generate enough lift to disengage the clutch, especially if the motorcycle has been parked for an extended period of time.

Risk: When the engine is running and the motorcycle is in gear, if the clutch cannot be fully disengaged, the motorcycle may move unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.
