2014 HARLEY-DAVIDSON FLHTP Complaints and Recall Information

The 2014 HARLEY-DAVIDSON FLHTP has 0 complaints and 5 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to the clutch system and brake components. Other reports include problems with saddlebag mounting security and hydraulic brake line routing.

There are five recalls affecting various systems on the motorcycle. The recalls address clutch master cylinder defects, front brake line routing, and saddlebag mounting receptacles. The affected motorcycles span several model variations closely related in manufacture date and design.

Recalls
  • Clutch master cylinder defect. NHTSA recall 13V515000 affects 19,597 motorcycles manufactured May to October 2013. The clutch master cylinder may allow air into the system or have an incorrect clutch release plate, which can prevent clutch disengagement. This increases crash risk due to difficulty slowing or stopping. Dealers will rebuild the clutch master cylinder and install the correct plate free of charge.
  • Front brake line pinch risk. Recall 14V319000 covers 66,421 ABS-equipped Touring and CVO Touring motorcycles made July 2013 to May 2014. The front brake line may be pinched between the fuel tank and frame, raising brake fluid pressure and potentially causing front wheel lock-up. Dealers will inspect and replace damaged lines and install cable straps to prevent pinching.
  • Saddlebag mounting failure. Recall 15V427000 affects 185,272 motorcycles across various 2014-2015 models including the FLHTP. The receptacles may not properly secure saddlebags, risking their detachment during riding and creating crash hazards. Dealers will replace mounting receptacles at no cost.
  • Clutch master cylinder fluid loss. Recall 15V216000 involves 106,966 motorcycles produced 2014-2015. The clutch master cylinder may lose pressure, especially after extended parking, causing unintended motorcycle movement when in gear. Dealers will flush the clutch system and rebuild the master cylinder free of charge.
  • Clutch master cylinder component failure. Recall 14V537000 covers 105,746 motorcycles manufactured in 2014. A clutch master cylinder component may fail, reducing clutch disengagement pressure and causing the motorcycle to creep when stopped. Dealers will rebuild the clutch master cylinders free of charge.

Owners who have dealt with repeated repairs or unresolved recall issues related to the clutch assembly or brake system may want to explore their options under state lemon laws. Persistent safety defects coupled with multiple recalls could entitle affected owners to protections or remedies under applicable law.

POWER TRAIN:CLUTCH ASSEMBLY

Harley-Davidson Motor Company (Harley-Davidson) notified the agency on April 9, 2015, that they are recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Electra Glide Ultra Classic (FLHTCU), Electra Glide Ultra Classic - Twin Cooled (FLHTCU TC), Ultra Limited (FLHTK), Police Electra Glide (FLHTP), Street Glide (FLHX), Street Glide Special (FLHXS), CVO Street Glide (FLHXSE), 2015 Electra Glide Ultra Classic Low (FLHTCUL), Ultra Limited Low (FLHTKL), Electra Glide Ultra Classic Low - Twin Cooled (FLHTCUL TC), Road Glide Special (FLTRXS), Road Glide (FLTRX), and 2014 CVO Road King (FLHRSE) motorcycles. On July 31, 2015, Harley-Davidson expanded the recall to cover an additional 61,065 motorcycles. In the affected motorcycles, the clutch master cylinder may lose the ability to generate enough lift to disengage the clutch, especially if the motorcycle has been parked for an extended period of time.

Risk: When the engine is running and the motorcycle is in gear, if the clutch cannot be fully disengaged, the motorcycle may move unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.
