Common Issues
  • Frame fractures. Multiple frame fractures were diagnosed requiring re-welding; some owners noticed frame flexing and separation at joints during hitching and transport.
  • Excessive pin box movement. The original equipment manufacturer (OEM) pin box exhibits abnormal movement impacting operation.
  • Slide-out problems. The bedroom slide-out fractured and detached during trips, creating safety and usability issues.
  • Suspension failures. Rear leaf springs cracked and axles along with suspension components required replacement.
  • Structural separation. Separation noted between the roof and nose cap along with other roof-related problems causing gaps and potential water intrusion.
  • Wall damage. Wrinkling observed in walls, sometimes accompanied by sawdust and metal shavings inside the unit.
  • Door detachment. Cargo and main doors occasionally detach during transport, raising concerns over security and safety.

There are 42 recalls associated with this model impacting various components including steps, propane systems, and refrigerator installations. These recalls address structural defects, potential fire hazards, and injury risks from step failures.

Recalls
  • Step tread reinforcement. (NHTSA 25V061000) 21,982 units affected due to unsupported step tread joints that may break and increase injury risk. Dealers reinforce steps with metal brackets free of charge. Owner notification began May 22, 2025.
  • LP supply line interference. (NHTSA 20V523000) 8,161 units recalled because the propane supply line may contact the refrigerator burner tube causing a gas leak and fire risk. Dealers inspect and replace lines as needed; thermal barriers are added. Recall started September 17, 2020.
  • LP gas line routing. (NHTSA 18V399000) 200 units recalled due to liquid propane gas line on outside kitchen potentially contacting hot grill, creating a fire hazard. Dealers re-route lines at no cost. Notification began July 10, 2018.

Owners with repeated frame damage, safety defects, or unresolved recall repairs may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting a consumer protection attorney could help determine available remedies.

Resubmitting from 2/3/2025 as the first form was not received. Attn: Jonathan Harrison I am the original owner of this unit and there is approximately only 1,500 miles on my trailer. This Grand Design is a swap from the original 2019 Grand Design that I already had. When I am able to camp, when my trailer is not in the shop, we only camp about an hour away from home as I don't feel safe. We have been experiencing frame issues. There is excessive pin box movement (this is the OEM), cargo, main doors, as well as the kitchen slide out coming out during transport, separation of roof and nose cap (and other roof issues), axels have been replaced, multiple replacements of suspension components, wrinkling in my walls, saw dust and metals shavings found throughout the unit. l I have been in contact with Grand Design many times, but not much help. I have the feeling they are trying to delay any kind of repairs for their manufacture defects. These have been an ongoing issue since the day I brought this trailer home.
