2010 GMC YUKON Complaints and Recall Information
The 2010 GMC Yukon has 1 complaint and 10 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to the hybrid battery module catching fire, with at least one case involving a short circuit and visible burn marks on the module.
Common Issues
- Hybrid battery fire. A complaint describes the hybrid battery module catching fire due to a short circuit, posing a fire hazard before any replacement or repair was attempted.
The vehicle is also subject to 10 recalls affecting multiple systems including airbags and aftermarket equipment. These recalls address serious safety risks such as airbag inflator explosions and incompatible aftermarket seat covers.
Recalls
- Aftermarket seat covers. (NHTSA Recall 10E043000) This recall involves 294 vehicles. The aftermarket seat covers sold under the Superhides brand are made of heavier thread and are incompatible with seats containing side airbags. The heavier covers could prevent full airbag deployment, increasing the risk of serious injury. Marathon will notify owners and replace the covers free of charge.
- Passenger airbag inflator (Zone A). (NHTSA Recall 21V054000) Over 1.7 million vehicles are affected including the 2010 Yukon originally sold in certain states. The non-desiccated inflators contain phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate which can explode due to propellant degradation from heat and humidity exposure. An explosion risks sharp metal fragments causing serious injury or death. GM will replace the inflators free of charge with no "Do Not Drive" advisory currently in place.
- Passenger airbag inflator (Zone B). (NHTSA Recall 21V050000) Approximately 2.6 million vehicles including the 2010 Yukon in specified states are involved. The defective inflators present the same explosion risk from PSAN propellant degradation. GM will replace inflators at no cost, with interim owner notifications sent and no immediate driving restrictions.
- Passenger airbag inflator (Zone C). (NHTSA Recall 21V053000) Around 692,000 vehicles affected include the 2010 Yukon in additional geographic regions. Inflator propellant degradation creates a risk of explosion and injury. GM is conducting free inflator replacements and has issued interim warnings to owners.
Owners dealing with repeated repairs or unresolved safety defects related to recalls or complaints should consider consulting their state’s lemon law provisions to understand their rights in such situations.
