2012 GMC YUKON XL Complaints and Recall Information
The 2012 GMC Yukon XL has 0 complaints and 7 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to recalls involving steering components, ignition systems, and air bag inflators. No individual complaints have been formally recorded.
There are seven recalls affecting various vehicle systems, primarily involving safety-critical components such as steering, ignition, and air bag inflators. The recalls cover potential steering gear fractures, ignition locking problems, and dangerous air bag inflator defects.
- Steering gear pitman shaft. Recall 12V112000 affects 6,159 vehicles due to inadequate hardening of the steering gear pitman shaft that may fracture. A fracture could result in loss of steering and increase crash risk. GM will inspect and replace the shaft free of charge starting April 4, 2012.
- Ignition lock actuator. Recall 14V827000 covers 84,192 vehicles where the ignition actuator may bind or stick in the “Start” position. This can cause sudden loss of engine, steering, and braking power, raising crash risk and potentially disabling air bag deployment. Dealers will inspect and replace the ignition lock housing at no cost since February 12, 2015.
- Passenger air bag inflator (Zone A). Recall 21V051000 applies to 284,645 vehicles originally sold or registered in specific states and territories. The inflator may explode due to propellant degradation, sending metal fragments into occupants and causing serious injury or death. GM will replace the inflator free of charge, with notifications beginning February 2021.
- Passenger air bag inflator (Zones A, B, C). Recall 21V054000 involves 1,778,128 vehicles across multiple regions. The air bag inflator defect is similar to the above with potential for explosion and occupant injury. GM is notifying owners and replacing inflators free of charge. Initial notifications began in February 2021 with ongoing follow-ups.
Owners dealing with repeated repairs or those notified of recalls involving steering, ignition, or air bag defects may have rights under state lemon law protections. They should consider consulting legal counsel to review their situation.
