2007 GMC YUKON XL Complaints and Recall Information

The 2007 GMC Yukon XL has 3 complaints and 6 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report catastrophic engine failure and unexpected airbag deployments. One report describes the engine failure caused by low oil pressure due to worn bearings. Another complaint details multiple airbags deploying without warning. One inquiry concerns aftermarket conversion documentation.

Common Issues
  • Engine failure. A vehicle suffered catastrophic engine failure at 168,000 miles due to low oil pressure from worn engine bearings affecting cylinders 7 and 8, requiring engine replacement at the owner’s expense.
  • Airbag malfunction. At approximately 178,000 miles, all airbags except the driver’s side did deploy independently without warning lights, blocking the driver’s view and requiring manual cutting of airbags to regain visibility.
  • Documentation request. An owner requested verification and documentation regarding a limousine conversion of the vehicle, seeking confirmation if the factory performed the modification.

Six recalls affect multiple vehicle systems including electrical and airbag components. The recalls involve risks of fire and airbag inflator explosions which can lead to serious injury. Most recalls require dealer servicing to correct defects at no cost to owners.

Recalls
  • Heated washer fluid system. (NHTSA Recall 10V240000) Approximately 1,365,070 vehicles are affected by a defect causing thermal incidents in the heated washer fluid module, which can melt surrounding plastic and potentially ignite a fire. Dealers will remove and disable the component and provide an updated owner manual insert. The recall began June 11, 2010.
  • Passenger airbag inflator, Zone A. (NHTSA Recall 21V050000) About 2,641,272 vehicles sold or registered in several states including Alabama and California carry airbag inflators with propellant that can degrade, causing inflator explosions and risk of metal fragments injuring occupants. GM notifies owners and replaces defective inflators free of charge. Notification started in early 2021.
  • Passenger airbag inflator, Zone B. (NHTSA Recall 21V050000) Included within the above recall number for Zone B states, affecting certain 2007-2008 models. Same defect and remedy as Zone A applies without "Do Not Drive" or "Park Outside" advisories.
  • Passenger airbag inflator, Zone B and C. (NHTSA Recall 21V052000) Covers 557,023 vehicles including later models registered in Zone B and all models in Zone C with similar defective inflators risking explosion and injury. GM will replace inflators at no charge. Owner notification mailed in 2021.

Owners dealing with repeated engine failures, airbag malfunctions, or ongoing recall repairs may have rights under state lemon laws. Consulting legal counsel can provide guidance based on specific circumstances.

POWER TRAIN

In June 2021 at approximately 168,000 miles the engine suffered catastrophic engine failure while driving. I was forced to replace the engine at my cost as it was out of the original warranty. I was told the cause of the engine failure was due to low oil pressure over an extended prior of time from worn engine bearings which resulted in a dropped value in cylinder #7 and #8.
