General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2021-2024 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe, GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles equipped with a 6.2L V8 gas engine. The connecting rod and/or crankshaft engine components may have manufacturing defects that can lead to engine damage and engine failure.

Risk: Engine failure increases the risk of a crash.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:BRAKE FLUID LOW WARNING: LAMP

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, GMC Sierra 1500, 2023-2024 Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Yukon, Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade, and Escalade ESV vehicles. The electronic brake control module software may fail to display a warning light when a loss of brake fluid occurs. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Vehicle Safety Standard number 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems."

Risk: Without a warning light, the vehicle may be driven with low brake fluid, which can reduce braking performance and increase the risk of a crash.

STRUCTURE:BODY

The upper part of the grill detached on my 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 while going 65mph on the higway. The part is about 4 inches wide by 6 ft long. People behind me in traffic were swerving and dodging to avoid hitting it. GM knows about this problem (see safety recall #N242490120), but the scope of the affected vehicles is incorrect, so my truck is not included. There were no signs that the part was going to fail before hand.

On [XXX], at approximately [XXX], while driving northbound on [XXX] between [XXX] and [XXX] (Austin, TX) at roughly 65 mph, I suddenly heard a loud cracking and popping sound from the front of the vehicle. As I began to ease off the gas, unsure of what was happening, I observed what appeared to be a black object quickly shoot upward from the front driver’s side of the vehicle while traveling at highway speed. I immediately took the next exit [XXX] ) to assess the situation. I had no idea what to expect; my mind kept jumping to either hitting road debris or maybe even a blowout. To my astonishment, once I was safely on the side of the road and out of my vehicle, I noticed that the front left fender flare had completely detached from the vehicle suddenly and without warning while cruising at normal highway speeds. The 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 in question had approximately 29,800 miles at the time of this incident. I immediately contacted the dealer to schedule a repair, and all pertinent records, including photographs and a repair invoice, can be made available upon request. Part of the grille of my 2023 GMC sierra AT4X flew off driving 75 miles per hour on the highway, i believe it has to do with the fasteners of the upper grille bezel.

The recall is showing complete in May 2025 but oil and filter plus new oil cap not changed or replaced. I bought the truck on June 25, 2025 from Enterprise Car Sales and was not informed about the engine of this truck was on a recall lised but have been completed. I feel unsafe driving this truck now.

The failure mileage was approximately 26,000.

BACK OVER PREVENTION

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that on several occasions while in reverse(R), the rear-view camera was fuzzy, obstructing the view of the rear of the vehicle. On several occasions, while the vehicle was in reverse (R), the camera was fuzzy, and after shifting to drive(D), the front camera displayed a black screen with a camera and a RED line. The vehicle was taken to a dealer; however, the cause of the failure was not determined after 8 weeks. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 34,000.

The vehicle was later restarted and driven to the residence before stalling a second time. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the local dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the fuel module was faulty and needed to be replaced. The contact was informed that the part was on back order. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 9,000.

While driving down the highway at moderate speed (60mph), the deflector, top of the grill broke off the truck, hit the windshield and the top of the truck (causing paint damage) and flew into traffic behind us. The incident put my family's safety and other drivers safety, at risk. I took the truck to a dealership immediately afterwards and they indicated the 2023 version is not under warranty, although a recall exists for previous years for this exact issue. There were no warning lights or messages received prior to the incident.

The upper portion of the front grille is loose and about to fall off. I know GMC has a recall on some trucks for this issue, however mine is not listed on this recall although I have the exact issue as the recalled trucks. It’s just a matter of time before this comes off driving 70 mph on the highway and could strike a vehicle behind me causing an accident. I noticed this being loose back in June 2025.

Accelerating on highway and felt like the engine stalled. Coasted to a stop and the engine would not restart. There was no way to get the truck into neutral so it had to be drug onto a flat bed tow truck.

50000 miles. Getting a P1098 code for a cooling issue. Truck goes into limp mode without warning and will overheat.

POWER TRAIN

The valve body in the transmission failed at 28,000 miles. My name is attached to an additional same exact vehicle where transmission failed. These transmissions should be recalled due to loss of propulsion. The dealership service lots are full of vehicles with the same failed transmission

POWER TRAIN

While driving on the freeway, 65 MPH, I Went to accelerate as vehicle was slowing down with no response, looked at dash and noticed vehicle was in neutral, with a message saying “restart Vehicle to shift” thankfully I was able to get over a few lanes to pull over and restart vehicle. Very scary incident while on a busy early morning commute to work.

The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed that the reflector needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. I can not see the speed, how much fuel and no waring lights etc. The screen flashes between black and dark blue and there is a repetative "ding" that I have no idea what is caused from since I can not see any warning lights, etc.This puts me and others at risk due to not being able to see any functions for operation of the vehicle, the speed or any indicator lights of vehicle issues. The dealer has seen the truck, and informed me that this is a known problem and they would have to order parts. According to the service department, parts for replacement will be covered under warranty/recall and they have been on order. It has been 3 weeks and they have no knowledge of when the parts will be in to make repair. There was no warning on this problem, the panel just went out.

POWER TRAIN

Vehicle was in for routine service, oil change and tire rotation. Per the published engine recall bulletin [Manufacturer Recall Number N252494000] the recall directs the technicians to check for a DTC and if not present to drain and replace filter and oil using 0-40W oil, to replace the oil filler cap with new oil specification labeling, and provide a corrected page for the owners operating manual. All very simple steps. There is absolutely no reason for this check and service not to be performed during routine maintenance. GM is dragging their feet on performing a critical recall and should be held accountable for slow walking this recall. Servicing dealer claims they had ZERO 0-40W oil in the entire dealership. I can go to Walmart and get cases of this oil. Replacement Filler Caps, which must be replaced can be quickly produced by the tens of thousands if desired, which apparently is a very low priority for GM. Servicing dealer was Heritage GMC, Rockwall, TX. Desired outcome is to require completion of all outstanding recalls if the vehicle is presented for servicing regardless of reason. Further, to specify a definitive timeline to complete any outstanding recalls and have that information communicated to each owner. Manufacturer Recall Number N252494000 has not been completed at this time.

POWER TRAIN

My vehicle has the 10l80 transmission. It experienced shuddering as well as several rear wheel lock ups at highway speeds. The vehicle is now out of service, since May 19 2025. I have been told there is no answer to shipment of replacement parts.

My 2023 GMC Sierra AT4 with the 6.2L L87 engine is showing signs of premature engine issues despite passing the recall inspection. I hear persistent lifter chatter, which is known to be a precursor to catastrophic failure in these engines. I no longer feel safe driving this vehicle due to the known defect with the crankshaft, rods, and valvetrain. GM issued a recall, but it appears to be incomplete and does not address the underlying issue in many vehicles, including mine. I am worried about sudden engine failure and safety while driving.

After 1-year to date of the first time the engine seized up in 2024 and was replaced with another motor. Then around father's day weekend I went to accelerate on highway and it studder and service symbols for traction control and ESC service popped up. It shook and vibrated while running. The same dealership shop that replaced it last year stated that rods and such have failed. After not resetting the mileage on the dash board for the miles on the truck or extending the warranty on the AT4 2023 model I was skeptical as it ran rough to begin with. I was told that everything is as should be when talking to them in Jan/Feb 2025. Now we're here at the shop AGAIN. the Mechanic at the dealership the first time stated that he mentioned to the manufacturer that the issues he is seeing is tied to the motor and oil transferring and he is not surprised there are the issues but the manufacturer shrugged it off. So, after having the vehicle in my possession for 2 years, I'm having the motor replaced twice in one calendar year and without a vehicle combined and counting 2.5+ months. GMC knew about the issues and decided not to address them. I loved the truck but there were too many issues and it was my first GMC and will be my LAST. I WAS a big Chevy guy most of my life.. Now I'm considering a RAM..

The engine failed while pulling my camper over a mountain pass. This resulted in me being stranded along side the highway with the vehicle impeding traffic. The area the vehicle broke down had no cell phone service to call for help. This engine was a replacement engine and failed with only 20,000 miles. This vehicle is effected by the recent recall the GM issued on all 6.2L engines. The were not indications the engine was going to fail.

Vehicle's 10 speed transmission on numerous occasions has locked the wheels at high rates of speed on the highway, causing the vehicle to veer across several lanes and almost crash. Vehicle will not always engage in drive selection causing a filed accident while trying to go from reverse to drive.

Engine code P1098 indicating failure of Cooling Control Valve (CCV) at 2.5 years old, 49k miles. Display on dash indicates acceleration reduced warning, fan in engine bay running at high level while actual temperature reads normal.

Diagnostic: Video Processing Module includes replacement and reprogramming and calibrations Diagnostics when referred to in an automotive sense is the various testing done on the automobile to ensure safety and proper engine functioning. These tests are done with different sensors, computers and machines to establish a “cause and effect” relationship between what is working and what is not working with the automobile. The forms of diagnostics can range from brakes, to air conditioning, to suspension and many more. PARKING GUIDELINES ON SCREEN DO NOT WORK AND THERE IS A BLUE HOUR GLASS ON SCREEN. $2,200 estimate to repair.

The chrome grille deflector detached yesterday while on the interstate and landed in traffic behind me. GM recall number N242490120 does not cover my vehicle, but the same thing is happening to newer models. GM says they won't cover my vehicle under the recall. Can this recall be extended to newer models?

POWER TRAIN

I was going camping and pulling a small 20 ft trailer with my spouse and 4 young kids in the car when the truck stopped accelerating and would not go over 30 mph on the freeway and the fan started running. There was no warning light on the dash. I was then stranded 2 hour from home with my kids in a gas station parking lot and had to have the truck and trailer hauled home.

Recall N252494000 GM has known about this issue since January (at least) and issued a recall in April. The attached form indicates they are recalling my vehicle but they are unable to repair it. This reduces my value and potentially leads to serious accident and serious injuries. How can GM get away with this? It is a BIG DEAL for a customer to have their vehicle recalled for safety issues like this but not have the manufacturer come out with a fix? What are we as customers to do? Wait until we or someone we love are injured or killed? Please, act quickly! Perhaps a full value buyback offer? Or actually replace the engines that they already know are defective. Changing the oil viscosity as indicated at various online sites DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. Please advise what recourse I should seek. Thank you very much!

FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine seized. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was restarted; however, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with fuel pump module failure. The contact was informed that the fuel pump module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 11,250. The VIN was unavailable.

ENGINE

The original engine in my 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 (6.2L L87) failed in November 2023 at only 2,872 miles. The dealership diagnosed engine knocking and discovered a damaged thrust bearing and crankshaft with metal debris throughout. The engine was replaced under warranty. In April 2025, GM issued Safety Recall N252494001 for the same engine model due to connecting rod and/or crankshaft manufacturing defects. According to GM’s bulletin, engine failure can result in sudden loss of propulsion and increase the risk of a crash. Despite already experiencing this failure and being within the affected model year and engine range, I have been told the recall remedy is not available to me because the campaign applies only to dealer inventory vehicles, and my recall status remains "Recall Incomplete: Remedy Not Yet Available." I requested a safety inspection of the replacement engine, but GM has refused, citing the incomplete status. When I escalated to GMC Customer Care, I was told they could not confirm whether my truck is safe or unsafe to drive. This is after already being stranded once with a family vehicle that cost nearly $80,000. I frequently drive with my family and feel I am being left at risk. GM appears to be prioritizing unsold vehicles while leaving current owners without support or assurance. The current engine has not yet failed, but I have no confidence it is safe, especially as it may include the same defective components described in the recall.

The tailgate automatically opens when I open the driver door. There is a recall on this for GMC Sierras, same model and year but were manufactured in Canada. This is happening to my vehicle but because it is manufactured in USA it is not part of the current recall. PLEASE recall the USA trucks too. Dangerous!

The dealer informed the contact that the part was on backorder. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact called another local dealer, Ross Downing Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram (500 Westin Oaks Dr, Hammond, LA 70403) and was referred to the manufacturer for assistance. The manufacturer was contacted and confirmed that the VIN was not under recall and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

While driving vehicle I received a message on the dashboard, "Reduced acceleration, drive with caution" and then the check engine light came on. Took the vehicle to local Autozone to get code read and was told "P1028" was the error code. Schedule an appointment with local GMC dealership for diagnosis. After three days dealership told me that the technician has diagnosed my truck with faulty "Engine Coolant Control Valve". I was told the part is backordered with no ETA. Asked for a loaner vehicle while truck is waiting repair and was told there was nothing available. When asked about what I should do transportation, dealership told me I could come pick up the truck and drive it until part arrived but I would need to watch for further engine issues as the engine could overheat. How do you tell a customer to just continue driving a vehicle with a known issue. Additional fear is what if additional harm is caused and because I drove the vehicle with a known issue they won't cover the cost of repair? This all seems fishy and unfair as a consumer.

The coolant control valve needs to be replaced. My estimated time to get the truck back is 1-2months. This appears to be a common problem. And its not covered under warranty

Vehicle is available for inspection Safety of driver and passengers included abrupt deceleration changes risking physical injury to persons and sudden loss of control of vehicular speed/acceleration risking accident/collision with or by other vehicles. Vehicle has been inspected by dealership and is awaiting new part for 100+ days Warning indicator for service check illuminated but then reset and turned off without incident. Issue with driving occurred with second incidence of service check warning, and vehicle was taken in for inspection/service.

On June 1 my 2023 gmc sierra 1500 6.2 began making a grinding and knocking sound on the engine no previous warning or symptoms. I believe it's a problem related to the engine recall so on June 2nd I took my vehicle to the dealership Brown Chevrolet of Eagle Pass TX where I was told that it would be about two weeks for them to get to it.

My GMC was listed under a recall that came out in 4-24-25. This issue can cause loss of propulsion to my vehicle and can cause serious risk of injury or an accident if the issue does occur. I tried to call my local dealer in Auburn WA to address the recall and was told there is no fix as of yet. Because of how serious this issue can be I’m shocked GMC is dragging their feet on a fix. I think this needs to be looked into and expedited to avoid injury.

POWER TRAIN

I was driving and without warning the engine stopped. Luckily I was on a neighborhood street and was just left in the middle of the road without incident. However, if I was turning on a left into traffic or on a major highway I would hate to think what would of happened. Again, this motor gave zero indication it was going to fail. It did not knock etc. Truck is currently at the dealer waiting for a new engine. This recall will lead to fatalities if others fail in this manner.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL

The active cruise control does not appear to be able to be completely turned off, you can only cancel a particular speed you have set. I have experienced multiple times in a parking lot situation when trying to park that as steering wheel was spinning, it is very easy to hit the toggle switch that sets/resumes the cruise control, at that point vehicle may acclerate to the set point as you are trying to park. You must quickly either hit the cancel button or the brake to disengage the cruise control that you have no intention of engaging. Although I have been able to get the situation under control, had another moving car or pedestrian been close by, not sure if I would have same result. I have gone through the operating manual provided with the vehicle, and from what I can tell, there is nothing in the manual that even tells you how to operate the active cruise control. It seems like there needs a “system off switch” so the set/resume button is not active, until the system is turned on. I have owned many GMC Products, and none have had the design where the toggle switch sticks out from the steering wheel and is easily inadvertently engaged. Usually the controls are flat/smooth like the “cancel” button on this vehicle…….which can’t easily be engaged accidentally. Luckly, I have not had a crash or injured a pedestrian

POWER TRAIN

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving 35-50 MPH, the message "Service Engine Soon" was displayed. Additionally, the power train warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the gear shift control module had failed and needed to be replaced; however, the part was not available. The vehicle was then towed to Parkway Chevrolet (25500 TX-249, Tomball, TX 77375; where the gear shift control module was replaced. Additionally, the contact stated while driving 35-40 MPH, the vehicle was sputtering. The contact was unaware of a warning light being illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the TCM needed to be updated, and an unknown part needed to be installed for transmission cleaning. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 21,000.

ENGINE

The engine cooling control valve malfunctioned while driving and limited acceleration making it hard to move out of the way of driving traffic. The dealer has confirmed all is this and inspected and they are unable to get the part to replace it because of a national bank order. No warning lights until part failure.

Engine misfire, bringing vehicle to low speed. Safety was a main concern, while I was on a highway and could not maintain a flowable speed with other vehicles. The problem was confirmed by the dealer on 4/25/25 milage 77681, repaired. Then happen again on 5/9/15 milage 79091, repaired and confirmed again by a different dealer. There were no pre-warnings, once it happen all warnings went on.

ENGINE

Coolant bypass valve went out. The safety was questionable as the truck reduced speed rapidly makes the cars behind at risk. The problem is constant because my truck is not the only one in the shop for it. Only the dealership has inspected the truck. I bought my truck used so not sure if it appeared before I bought it but I only had my truck a week before it was in the shop. Waning lights came on and would only go off with a code reader/clearer.

ENGINE

Engine failed. We had just passed a semi truck when the engine lost all power. Problem was confirmed by Hart Motors (the delearship the pickup was purchased from). Vehicle was inspected by the dealership. No warnig lights or any symptoms pior to the engine failing.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

After contacting numerous GM dealerships across the country, I have discovered that this part is on national backorder, with over 4,000 units reportedly pending. I have also learned that the part number has been superseded multiple times, suggesting an ongoing and unresolved issue. To make matters worse, Specmo is reported to be the sole refurbisher and distributor of replacement modules, further limiting availability and delaying resolution. This issue directly affects vehicle operability and driver safety. The inability to access critical information such as speed, fuel level, warning indicators, and system diagnostics significantly increases the risk of accidents and vehicle malfunctions. Given the scale of this issue and its impact on public safety, I urge General Motors, relevant regulatory bodies, and consumer safety agencies to investigate this matter thoroughly. A recall, expedited solution, or broader communication to affected customers appears necessary at this stage.

STRUCTURE:BODY

The chrome front grill deflector is loose and feels like it is going to fly off at any moment. There have not been any accident or collision with the vehicle for this to be my fault. I know all the 2022 GMC Sierras got recalled for this issue but dealership said my vehicle isn’t covered even though is the same issue

Windshields are not standard made and chip/crack easily. I’ve had 3 chips occur. Please check quality and thickness.

Engine failure at highway speed. My wife and I were driving approximately 65 miles per hour when suddenly my vehicle engine RPMs shot up but I lost all engine power and the truck became inoperable. Stranded out of state. No loaner or safe alternative transportation offered. No repair timeline provided. GM Case #: 9-15084178121. GM Customer Care provided no help whatsoever.

Truck lost all power while towing a trailer driving on the highway. Got it over to the side of highway and lost all power and wouldn't start after parking. Dealership jad truck for over 6 weeks and replaced the motor and would not reset the milage due to manufacturer not allowing it. Since then my rods have a knocking noise occuring while vehicle is running and doesn't sound normal. Rubs rough since the engine replacement.

I just left the gas station from getting a beverage, I got onto the interstate and had gone roughly about 3 miles before setting super cruise a few minutes after that the interstate takes a turn to the left with an exit on the right. Slightly right as I was just getting into the turn my engine shutoff and or died making my truck uncontrollable causing me to drive off the interstate into some small trees between the exit and the interstate. I was not injured and no other vehicles were involved. My truck is currently at the insurances storage yard and they care claiming it to be totaled. I have contacted GM and filled a claim however they are saying they aren’t responsible because the insurance company has my truck. I feel like regardless of who has my vehicle the manufacturer should be responsible if the issue pertains to a specific recall that has already been issued 2 weeks after my accident. I have contacted several lawyers but since I wasn’t injured they aren’t interested in taking my case. My concern is I’m getting screwed over financially because my truck was only a year old and now my insurance is going to be crazy expensive when the manufacturer should be the one taking responsibility for this and not myself.

Gm has acknowledged there is a safety risk to continue driving my truck due to potential engine failure. I was prompted to take it to service to have the issue assesed which I did. The dealer said they would not inspect it because there is no resolution approved. I offered on 45/1/25 to pay them to check it out but they refused. This is dangerous and unacceptable, I hope you can help.

ENGINE

The 6.2 liter engine spun the #1 and #3 crankshaft bearings. This was confirmed by the selling dealership, Guess Motors, who performed the engine teardown. This complete engine failure was not foretold by any warnings whatsoever. I was able to drive vehicle to the dealership before it stopped running. The dealership has ordered a replacement entire engine from GM however no delivery date has been received and this occurred on 04-04-2025. On 04-24-2025 GM issued recall # N252494001 on this engine configuration.

SERVICE BRAKES

While driving on the highway warning lights for ABS, Check Engine, traction control and towing disabled came on. Also, the truck was limited to a speed of 62 mph. When attempting to apply the brakes the peddle went to the floor and the truck was extremely hard to stop. Power brakes were gone and manual braking was the only way to stop. After pulling over and restarting the truck the power brakes came back. The truck was taken to the dealer and they claimed the truck needed some updates and was fixed. About four months later this same problem occurred again while coming to a stop causing the truck to miss a stop sign and enter an intersection. The same lights came on and the trucks speed was reduced. After restarting the truck the power brakes started working again and the truck was dropped off to the dealership. The dealer looked into the problems and said the truck needed computer updates but found no other problems. Driving this truck has become nerve racking not knowing if the brakes will stop working again.

ENGINE

While driving on the interstate at approximately 80 mph the engine sounded like it started revving to its max and then it lost power and would not go anymore so I had to try and get to the side of the highway before the momentum stopped. There was no warning lights, indications, or recall notices that this was going to happen. And then had to wait about 2 hours for a tow truck on the side of the interstate. Then the dealership said my engine was seized up and they put a new motor in which took about 2 weeks and they wouldn't give me a loaner vehicle so my husband had to drive approx 3 hours to pick up me and my daughter. I no longer have my invoice that the dealership gave me after the repairs were performed. So after that I was leary of that happening again and traded the vehicle and took a huge loss in trade value not too long after the incident.

ENGINE

I was with my two kids about to go on the highway as I accelerated at the speed of the 60 mph the truck completely shuts down I managed to move to the right shoulder my miraculously had to wait for a tow truck for 3 hours. Got truck towed to the dealership they told me it needed an engine and its back order took them 4 weeks to get ot done 2 days later check engine light came back on I was told only a misfire. I was without my truck for another 2 weeks. All this happened back in January of 2025

Dealer has confirmed engine needs to be replaced but after several weeks they say they are unable to replace the engine because no parts are available and no estimated repair date. This is completely unacceptable and not a timely repair. I am without a truck and still paying for the loan of the truck with interest through GM financial.

Upper grille came off and fractured windshield while going down the highway it is a non serviceable part by GM which I believe is strategic seeing that they’ve had issues with earlier models of the the truck you have to buy an entire replacement grille for one issue that shouldn’t be happening was never able to locate part, I assume plastic grille clips dry rotted noticed the part lifted a bit before the entire part failed thought someone was trying to break into my truck . The wind while going down the highway caused them to fail, I’ve seen multiple GMC sierras with the same grille issue, I uploaded before and after pictures of how the truck looked before and after pictures .

POWER TRAIN

Engine Cooling system We were stuck on side of freeway then told to drive to dealership but kept dying and saying it was overheating could only drive 7mph off freeway. Yes dealer confirmed with computer test that coolant flow control valve was malfunctioning. On approximately April 8th 2025 we were on vacation in Biloxi MS we got check engine light took to Dealership in Biloxi. Put on computer said it was coolant control valve they reset it but said parts on National back order but we were fine to finish our vacation and head home. Got to Albuquerque NM on April 22nd it overheated couldn’t go over 5 miles per hour got to Albuquerque dealership couldn’t go any farther they tried to reset but truck would drive more than 5 miles per hour. Told us we would have to leave it part was on back order no idea when it would be available. We had to rent a car to drive to our home in Az .

This has happened approximately three (3 ) times in the last two months while being driven with the most recent incident occurring today, 04/27/2025. There are no warning lights indicating when a tailgate opens while the vehicle is being driven.

2023 GMC 1500 Sierra Denali Ultimate tailgate opens without being commanded. I believe my vehicle has same issues as the other recall on GMC Sierra 2021-2024 with engine issues

ENGINE

We were driving to dinner on March 28, 2025, when our 2023 GMC Sierra truck with just over 22,000 miles started making a clanking sound with major hesitation while trying to accelerate. At highway speeds, the truck lost nearly all power. We made it to the dealership, which was closer than home. Upon pulling in the parking lot, the truck died and we were unable to start it. The truck was actively losing power on the freeway and hesitating, we were fearful it would die on the freeway in 6 pm traffic. On March 29, 2025, we spoke with a service manager who said it sounded like the motor was blown. On April 2nd, Autonation GMC Corpus Christi South confirmed the oil pan was full of metal shavings and they were ordering a new motor. Upon asking for an estimation of how long we would be without our vehicle, the service advisor said he wasn’t taking it out of the bay and we should have it back by April 15. The check engine light did not come on until 1/4 mile from exiting the highway. On April 12, 2025, we texted the service advisor to make sure the truck would be ready on April 15, 2025. He responded that the motor still hadn’t come in and he would let us know when it did. On April 17, 2025, I escalated his from the service advisor to the service manager for Autonation. I was informed the motor had not been ordered, but he would order it and have the motor broken down to meet GM’s requirement. April 24, 2025, motor has been ordered, but no ETA or location of the motor.

ENGINE

While driving the vehicle the vehicle stopped, and engine seized. I could not move the vehicle out of neutral nor restart the vehicle to get out of the road. It was towed to our local dealership's service department on 2/16/25 and has been there since. They are stating the vehicle needs a new engine and the engine is on backorder. OF COURSE! This seems to be an ongoing issue with the 6.2L V8 engine for GMC vehicles.

ENGINE

Had an engine seizure with no warning. The event occurred on 03/22/2025. The vehicle has been in the dealership since then, with no line of sight to a replacement engine. The vehicle had barely over 15k miles. When the engine seized, it went to neutral, there was not power stirring and no breaks. I was fortunate that it was in a residential area, and my speed was below 30 miles an hour when it happened. The dealer is going to replace the motor when they get it, but it sounds like the engine is back ordered, as this exact issue has been happening to multiple vehicles. Like I said, there were no warning lamps, or messages; the engine just stopped working.

GM needs to look at the excessive failures on their Engine Coolant Control Valve on the 3.0 Duramax Diesel engines. Mine failed at under 35K miles and it looks to be weeks or months before a part is available.

While my husband was driving on the NJ Turnpike at 65 mph, his truck just shut off!! . This was very dangerous, he had to try to get over from the left lane, all the way to the shoulder and park the truck. How has this not been taken care of yet? This needs to be looked into, he could have been in an accident. GMC is aware of this problem but has not recalled these trucks. Please make this known to the public, this is very dangerous!! To add insult to injury, we now are told that we have to pay to replace the engine and the truck is less than 2 years old. How is that right? The warranty is out (60k miles warranty) because my husbands drives a lot of highway miles (80k on truck) to and from work so they say it will cost us $9,000 dollars to replace. Since we still have payments on our truck, we have no choice but to get it repaired. Knowing this is an issue and it should be recalled, this is wrong! I am concerned this will happen again, if they replace it with the same engine. Please help!

ENGINE

My 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X with 25,000 miles equipped with the 6.2L V8 engine, has experienced engine issues and total failure. Dave Sinclair a GM dealer in St. Louis Missouri indicated that bearing failure and lower lifter defects led to engine seizure, engine failure and block damage. This resulting in the need for a new/ replacement engine. I brought my GMC into Dave Sinclair service center on 2-11-2025 due to engine knocking and loss of power, then on [XXX] experienced complete engine failure and total breakdown on [XXX] resulting in traffic risks and issues. No warning lamps or messages. I routinely have the vehicle maintained at Dave Sinclair per their recommend mileage/time. As of 4-18-2025 I've not receive a replacement engine. While driving on a mountain highway pulling a light duty trailer coasting downhill, the truck went into Nuetral and lost all power. There was no warning lights or messages prior to failure. The display showed "Unable to shift under current conditions". Luckily I was in the right lane and had enough momentum to be able to coast into a breakdown lane on a slight grade with my trailer. The electronics still worked, but the engine would no longer turn over or shift into gear. Had the vehicle towed to the dealer I bought it from and the tech said the engine will need to be replaced. I was lucky this did not cause a catastrophic failure while driving at highway speeds and was able to bring the vehicle (and trailer) to a stop safely. There is already an open investigation against this problem on the NHTSA website, and the claims look very similar to my experience.

ENGINE

On [XXX] I was traveling at highway speed south on [XXX] . I was driving my 2023 GM [XXX] The truck had 36,199 miles at the time of the incident. The engine is a 6.2 L EcoTec3 V8. While traveling at highway speed, without any warning, the engine shut down. The shift indicator displayed the vehicle being in neutral. When I tried to shift back into gear, a dashboard display stated "The current conditions are not suited for shifting." Fortunately I was able to coast onto the center median, off the traveled protion of the roadway without incident. I contacted the New Jersey State Police. They sent a tow operator to my location, and I was towed to Lester Glenn Buick-GMC in Tom's River, NJ The next day a representative from the service department informed me the vehicle suffered a catastrophic engine failure. The engine completely seized and the vehicle would need a complete engine replacement. The reason for the engine seizure has not been determined as of this time. Engine failed and it is available for inspection upon request The engine started coasting down a major highway and it put myself and others on the road at risk. The dealer has confirmed that this 6.2 L engine has been giving the dealership problems with these GMCs. The vehicle has only been inspected by the Dealership. The Warning Message stated that I needed to restart the engine; however, you can't do that on a major highway due to pressing the break. The vehicle was already on; however, the engine was not connected. No other symptoms were happening prior to the incident. The engine trouble appears only at this incident.

ENGINE

Was going up a hill and all of the sudden the engine stopped, the truck coasted to the edge of the road. A message came on saying 'Press start to reset engine.' Doing so did nothing. The truck ended up having to be towed to a dealer. They were not able to turn the engine over by hand and ended up diagnosing the engine as a seized from a failed bearing. They ended up replacing the entire engine with a new identical one. They have not been able to tell me if the new engine is in the same engine group that I could experience the same thing a second time.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Tailgate opened while in park.closed garage door.Came back out to leave and garage door got caught on tailgate that had released open on its own causing body damage.

ENGINE

While towing my boat to the Florida Keys, I encountered a series of mechanical issues on Interstate 75. The engine’s exhaust became excessively loud, causing the engine to abruptly shut off. Despite successfully maneuvering into the safety lane, I was unable to restart the engine. I promptly contacted the dealership, which dispatched a tow truck to my location. However, the tow truck driver was unable to put the vehicle in neutral gear. Subsequently, I reached out to GMC, which informed me that the tow truck required a flatbed for transportation. I waited another two hours for a flatbed truck to tow the vehicle to the dealership. A few days later, I received notification that my engine had seized, necessitating an engine replacement. The dealership informed me that the 6.2-liter engine was experiencing a national backorder. I had purchased this used vehicle less than a month prior and had not yet made my initial payment. Consequently, I find myself without a vehicle. The dealership has been unable to provide an accurate timeline for the repair to be completed.

Complete engine failure while driving at highway speeds which put me and my family in dangerous risk of injury or death. The dealer confirmed the engine failure and needs engine replacement. The engine failed with no warning which only had 8700 miles.

POWER TRAIN

Transmission locking up Was never notified about recall and my truck was never put on recall list they have gas lighted me and others with 23 models having same known issues Yes it is stuck at the dealer waiting on back ordered part but they arent aloud to inspect the gears in the transmission due to only replacing the control module Prior to this i had other failures between fuel control module to def fluid tank to shortened wire harness all of this issues make the vehicle go crazy between acceleration/ hard and no shifting which is a danger to drive and then there will be more wear and tear on other components that arent being addressed

POWER TRAIN

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the “Service Transmission Now” warning light illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that the warning light and a message indicated that the transmission would stop shifting soon. 4-5-25 Going 65 mph truck shut off for no reason. Dash message stated “press button to restart” I managed to pull over on side of road and place in park and restarted. Drove home and Chevy dealer service was closed. 4-7-25 Called in morning to get truck into service. 4-8-25 Service advisor called and stated No dash lights no codes . I explained that it was scary to have truck shutoff with no reason.i also stated that truck lurches and auto stop sounds wierd. Dealership Said tech was going to investigate further. I got a call next day 4-9-25 Service advisor said the main bearings bad and tech recreated problem and that motor was blown and need to order new from Michigan . Service advisor said he ordered engine and that it was known issue and covered under warranty. I asked how long he would have truck and he stated NO ETA. Truck engine seized during tech driving to reproduce my issue.

ENGINE

Turned onto highway. Got up to about 60 miles per hour. After a couple minutes the truck lost all power. Was pressing gas and noticed speed declining. Looked at dash and noticed rpm decreasing. All lights were off in the dash. I let the truck coast to the edge of the highway. Attempted to jump start and replace battery and nothing happened. Had it towed to a mechanic who said the motor was seized up.

POWER TRAIN

The system that is not working properly is the transmission. It is available for inspection upon request. The safety of the vehicle, and myself, was put at risk because the transmission (once warmed up / at least 30-60 minutes of driving takes place) downshifts hard, making a clunking noise, and has at worst given the vehicle a rough nudge/jolt forward upon downshifting particularly from 2nd to 1st gear (it is a 10 speed transmission). This issue, when it occurs, will require me (the driver) to apply extra force to the brake pedal due to the rough downshift / jolt upon shift. The issue is exacerbated when quickly stopping the vehicle causing the transmission to downshift more rapidly. The vehicle's transmission flaws, of which this happens to be one of them, were being looked into at a certified repair facility (dealership). After the vehicle was in their possession 3 days, they informed me that they could not replicated or reproduce the issue. I informed and reminded the following: (1) the vehicle has to be warm and operated for I would state at least 30-60 minutes of driving before the issue arises (2) I have recorded videos of the problematic sounds of the transmission. (3) I am willing to go for a test drive to try to replicate the issue with dealership staff, but the issue is infrequent and the vehicle must be warmed-up and/or driven more than the typical "test drive" for the issue to be observed. The vehicle component has been inspected by a certified repair facility (dealership), but not directly by a manufacturer's direct representative, police, insurance representatives, or others. The transmission is also problematic in another way (rattling at low rpm's during upshift), but pertaining to safety the downshift is most concerning as described above. There were/are no warning lamps or messages. The symptoms of the problem pertaining to the transmission began occurring around 11,800-12,000 miles in my estimation.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle experienced a loss of motive power. The contact shifted to neutral(N) and was able to restart the vehicle. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving 55 MPH and pulling an unloaded trailer, the vehicle suddenly stalled. A message advising the contact to shift to neutral(N) and to attempt to start the vehicle was displayed; however, the vehicle failed to restart as intended. The contact was still able to use the power brakes and the power steering, which allowed the contact to pull over in a safe area. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the presence of copper filings in the oil had caused the engine to run roughly. The dealer determined that the engine needed to be replaced; however, the part was not available. Additionally, the average waiting period for an engine was approximately 6 months. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was 33,000.

I was driving on the interstate when my vehicle’s display indicated that I needed to press start and that is when I noticed the engine was not running. I had to quickly pull over moving three car lanes all while coasting and I came to a stop. I tried multiple times to restart but the engine would not restart. I still had electrical power and turned on my hazard lights and called for a tow truck.

Transmission failure upon acceleration through intersection. Engine high revved went into Low Power Mode. Was lucky to not be rear ended with sudden loss of acceleration. Truck would also not go above 40 safely.

Gave an error code of P0747. Per the dealer it was caused by a faulty valve body in the transmission. Part is on back order for months to get fixed. Truck is not drivable as it will not go out of 5th gear. Was told that the problem was found in many models from 2020-2024.

Driving at night on non-marked rural road at approximately 40 mph when the motor quit. I was going slight downslope and didn’t know until the Push button to start message came up. I coasted to a stop in the road and when push button to restart the lights went out and no movement of engine. Even though the lights came back on when button was pushed again nothing seemed to respond. Emergency flashers and radio did work. Transmission selector would not go to neutral to allow movement from the road. I called wrecker service and set in the truck for about a hour waiting and nervous about someone hitting me from behind as it was a dangerous spot just around a corner. The wrecker could not get the truck in neutral after several attempts ended up dragging the truck to get it loaded. Since I was within a mile from my home and it was midnight on Saturday I had him take it to my home. Monday I called Thompson GMC and wrecker came took it in to the dealership in Springfield MO. Tuesday 8:30 am I received a text from service saying that it was going to have to have a new motor as it was completely full of metal shavings. The replacement 6.2 engines were on backorder and they didn’t know when they could expect them. I was shocked as I had not had any trouble and really liked my truck to this point. I tried to get dealership to trade for another truck but they didn’t seem to want to wait for the engine either and would not give much for trade on a 18 month old truck. Obviously, this is a frustrating position as the truck is a huge part of my life. In the last few days I have found that GM has known of the problem for some time and they don’t have a remedy for me to recover my investment in their faulty product. I saw on internet where NHTSA had more than a 1000 complaints so I decided to add mine. You can bet that their are many many more that have been repaired before the motors went on backorder that are not reported. GM needs to step up NOW!

ENGINE

While driving home from work, my engine, with only 20k miles on it, started to make noise. I immediately got off the highway at the next exit and as soon as I came to a stop the engine noise got even louder and the vehicle shut off. Was able to barely get it started but managed to get it off the road before it died again. Had it towed to my GMC dealership and have been advised that the engine is done and needs to be replaced. Seems to be a very common occurrence on GM vehicles with the 6.2 engine. Won’t have the truck back for minimum 6 weeks but still have to continue to make my $1000 payment for a truck with no working motor due to factory issues.

I was able to steer closer to the side of the road while it coasted to a stop, but it was difficult. After the vehicle coasted to a stop and it would not restart. No traffic was affected, but it could have been.

I was driving my truck on I-65 around 75mph and the engine just shut down. I had to maneuver the vehicle out of traffic onto the side of the interstate. It would not restart. I had it towed to my dealership and they told I experienced total engine failure. It was caused by internal bearing failure

GM 6.2L Engine shifted itself into neutral and shut down while my wife was alone driving 65mph on [XXX] in Tucson Arizona. No error messages or check engine signal, Vehicle Information Center advised pull over and push Start Button. Vehicle would not initially restart but did start within 5 minutes and my wife was able to limp along the 1/4 mile to the next off ramp to get off the highway. Local GMC Dealer confirmed the seized motor and immediately ordered a new GM motor. Vehicle is 18 mo's old with 26,500 miles and is sitting at the dealer. They confirm there is a steering gear issue. Parts in order. Was told it’s a big deal and will need it for several days to fix. 8800 miles on truck! Was traveling with traffic, approximately 70-75 mph, engine turned off the truck started deaccelerating rapidly. Was able to change to the right lane and pull over on to the side of the highway. Truck rolled roughly 100 yards and then stopped. The dashboard lights were on and gave the appearance the truck was running, but it was not. Could not restart the vehicle. Tow track came and had to drag the truck up to the truck bed and then shack it off - when taken to the dealership. Truck could NOT be put in neutral. Truck is current at the dealership. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who determined that the engine had seized and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related to the failure to NHTSA Action Number: PE25001 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 23,000.

Was driving down the interstate at 70mph with cruise control on. The vehicle lunged forward and soon after a reduce power message appeared in the messages. I was able to avoid any incident with other vehicles and exited the highway with the motor was making loud noises. I parked the vehicle and called for roadside assistance. The vehicle had to be towed to the dealer, and I found out that the 6.2 liter V8 motor has metal in the oil and the entire engine needed to be replaced. The thrust bearing failed and required a full engine replacement. The vehicle has approximately 21,000 on it and is still under warranty, but it is a 3-6 month wait to get a replacement engine. I have searched the internet and found that there are many vehicles that are having similar issues with the 6.2 L V8 GM motor. It has been slightly over a month since the incident and have not received any updates.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The truck check engine lights came on, and I took it to a dealer. I was told the ECM was faulty, they replaced it, but it didn't fix the issue. I was then told the ONSTAR telematics unit was faulty. The truck has been down for 45 days, with no ETA on parts(several forms say 4-6 months). There is no guarantee that this will fix the CEL. The truck is inoperable at this time.

While entering the highway from a downward slop exit ramp and towing a trailer, my truck shuddered hard and briefly locked up the rear axle. It immediately went into limp mode with a message that driving speed will be reduced. It also wouldn't shift past 5th gear. When the event took place, the OBD2 generated over 20 trouble codes. My local dealer advised I could drive it to them for repair. Upon dropping it off, they now advise it's NOT safe for driving and they have no eta on the parts to repair the issue. It's now been at the dealer for a week with no update. This is a well known issue that GM refuses to repair or provide a reasonable timeframe for repair. On Saturday March 1st I was driving East on I-10 in Florida when my trucks engine lost power. I managed to get over onto the shoulder of the road and got out of the flow of traffic. Very scared I was going to get hit before I could get off the interstate. Motor was making a terrible noise like the lifters let go. I was beside the interstate for about 3 hours trying to find a tow truck to come get me and the truck off the side of the interstate. I had the truck towed for about 60 mile to get it back home to the dealership. The truck has 26,000 miles on it and the dealership told me the motor was no good and that there is metal pieces in the oil pan. 2 weeks have past by and they can't tell me when they will receive a replacement motor. What am I supposed to do? $80,000 truck 2 years old and the motor is no good. Thanks

I own a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate. The truck had about 19k miles on it when the engine seized while driving on the highway late at night in January. This was extremely dangerous as I was going 55mph over a bridge and lost the engine. I was stranded on an exit ramp unable to move. It was cold that week so it was 5 degrees. Onstar informed me that since the truck could not be shifted into Neutral that it would need dollies and a flat bed. They said they could get to me at 8am which was 9 hours from when the truck broke down. It was 5 degrees out and I had no heat sitting on the highway. I ended up calling a local tow company and they were able to get to me but I had to wait 3 hours. The truck was towed to the deal and they confirmed that the engine seized (it is a known problem) and it needs a new motor. They said there is a big back log of engines because many have this issue. I still have not provided a timeline for the truck to be repaired.

ENGINE

During travel of the highway, the motor suddenly lost power and shut down with no warning lights or symptoms prior. Although I was able to get to the side of the road, the electronic shifter does NOT allow the vehicle to be put into Neutral. This is a known GM issue. This morning the dealer confirmed the engine needs replacement.

I left my house & was driving my truck down the highway for about 2.5 miles. All of a sudden the engine locked up & the battery went dead. I barely coasted off the opposite side of the road where the closest side road is & a semi pasted shortly after. I felt very lucky my truck made it off on the side road instead being run over by the semi truck. I then had to call a weaker & have it towed to the local dealership that services GMC trucks. After 4 days I finally got the worst news, the truck needs a new 6.2 engine. My 2023 GMC Sierra AT4 with 38k miles had an engine that locked up & I was flabbergasted. I started searching this issue on the internet & couldn’t believe how common this is & nothing has been done about this. I would assume a recall from GM would be appropriate considering the sheer number of 6.2 liters engines having issues over & over. This is absolutely unacceptable. I could have been seriously injured or even worse killed by the negligence of GM on this issue. I get it, GM made a mistake with this 6.2 engine and it’s going to cost a lot of money but my research tells me this appears to have been happening for a few years. As I sit here today my truck is sitting in a dealer lot with a busted engine & a new one is on backorder. I am currently driving a dealer “loaner” Chevy trailerblazer. It could be weeks or months before I finally get word on another 6.2 engine replacement from GM. I own a small farm and do not have a truck to haul hay or feed for horses. Can the National highway administration please help me? I thought I was buying a dependable 2023 GMC sierra 1500 AT4 & instead bought a lemon. Apparently hundreds of thousands of other 6.2 liter engines like mine are a HUGE safety hazard & should be recalled. This seems like an open & shut case & after reading into the matter I can’t believe Gov. organizations like the National Highway safety administration has not did more and let GMs 6.2 liter engine contine on. What’s left to investigate?

Send it back to the dealership and dropped it off dealership told me they would keep me an update on it.Emailed called have absolutely no idea what’s going on with my truck. The dealership did mention of a possible engine replacement. But did not confirm after many attempts. Trying to attempt to contact the dealership emails phone calls still no answer. Called General Motors. They informed me the dealership ordered a new engine for replacement. That definitely worried me and I asked for a vehicle replacement or refund General motors, declined my request. Now I am not so confident in my truck what else could go wrong since the engine is going to be replaced? What about the transmission? Could it affect it? I don’t know> The damage was significant in order for the engine to be replaced you just don’t replace an engine just because, there was no light indications that something was going wrong with my truck. I’m glad I wasn’t driving far when I was hearing these noises coming from the engine because the engine could have seized left me stranded who knows could have crashed if the engine came to abrupt stop because of the engine failure. I purchased this truck January 12, 2025 . The total of time that I have had my truck since January 12 has been 15 days. today is February 6 on Friday, February 7. My truck has been in the shop literally 30 days exactly. Still no update on when it will be ready. This is so frustrating and such a big inconvenience.

About a week after I picked up my truck (after the shutting off issue was supposed to have been taken care of), I returned because I was still noticing the noise. While on a test drive with a GM mechanic, the motor suddenly started making very loud clicking and squeaking noises. He told me to stop right away. The manager at the dealership told me I would get a new motor because there was a recuring issue with the GM 6.2l. After a week, he said only some parts would be changed and that GM would not replace the whole motor. I told him I did not feel safe driving the truck and he said GM decides what to replace not me. I read online that the motor and all oil filters, ducts etc need to be replaced to avoid debris and future problems. No warning light ever went on. Terrifying experience.

i was driving on the highway and the truck just shut off and rear wheel locked up almost caused me to wreck the truck. got truck pulled to side of the road finally after steering got real tight and very hard to steer to side of road. truck would not even try to start and engine warning light popped up on dash. i had to get truck towed for $243 to turner gmc in new holland, the dealership said it was a known issue since they had 2 trucks in their shop with the 6.2 L engines getting replaced. this was a very scary moment for me and now i have nothing to drive out money from towing and dealer told me it could be a few months before i get truck back. now i will have to pay for a truck that dont run at all.

At 9,100 miles my 2023 pickup truck experienced engine failure. It was inspected by dealership in the town where truck was purchased and it is determined that it will need a new engine due to "bearing failure". This occurred 2/24/25. No indicators or warning messages appeared.

ENGINE

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while his wife was driving 60 MPH, the vehicle came to an abrupt stop, and the engine was seized. There were no warning lights illuminated. The driver was stranded on the highway for approximately two hours. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the camshaft bearing had disintegrated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 22,872.

I started truck and engine light came on.Coolant fan went super loud and would not stop at high speed. Code P1098 was seen.The dash read reduce acceleration drive with care.I had to have vehicle towed to GMC dealership.

The engine has blown for the 6.2L V8 Denali with 31,300 miles. I was told that this is happening on several of these engines. They told me it would be 3-4 months for repair as the engines are on backorder. I am not able to use a truck that I have purchased and am paying on.

Complete engine failure confirmed by GMC dealership service technicians. Incident Details: On [XXX] while driving at approximately 45-50 mph on [XXX] , my vehicle suffered a complete engine failure without warning. ENGINE

Driving on a road. Suddenly the engine shut off and would not turn back on. I was stuck in the middle of the road with out the ability to put the truck in neutral to push it out of the way.

POWER TRAIN

Valve Body. While driving the vehicle, hard shifts occurred; the vehicle check engine light came on and stayed on while the vehicle went into limp mode. I was able to link to the GMC dealer. The dealer was not and would not inspect the vehicle at that time. I was told I needed to leave or return in two for inspection. The left vehicle was inspected the next day and determined as a value body. The GMC dealer found the part in another state and has the part shipped. I installed the part, had the GMC dealer search it, and performed a recall update.

ENGINE

I was driving on the interstate and the vehicle just shut off with a warning stating conditions not right to shift. I had to drift off the interstate and the vehicle would not restart. This happened on 12/4/24 and has been at the dealership since.

POWER TRAIN

Transmission Light has been on & off for a month and half. Had it at dealer twice, dealer will not confirm a problem. Truck shifts and bucks between first and second gear. Makes stopping in traffic difficult as truck will surge and jump when down shifting while stopping. Took truck to AAMCO Transmission shop. Confirmed problem, no new transmission units or rebuild parts are available for the GM 8 Speed transmission. AAMCO is replacing unit with a used one. This is a company truck also have a second truck having the same issues with half the miles of this unit. In my opinion GM is aware of the issue in that with both trucks at dealer with same issue, they just send me off with no documentation so as to not have a paper trail. Also no new units available makes me believe that GM can not keep up with warranty replacements.

Engine would not shift into Neutral and would not restart. I coasted off to an exit ramp and the truck stopped in the middle of it blocking traffic for about an hour. Highway Patrol was on site to help direct traffic through the intersection of the off ramp and side road. We sat for approximately an hour before a tow truck could get us out of the intersection. The truck transmission was locked tight and the tow truck had to put the back wheel on skates to move it. I had to pay $175.00 to this tow truck company to move me approximately 200 yards to a local restaurant where we waited for the GMC provided tow service to arrive. GMC provided tow truck would only tow to nearest dealership which was in Weimer, TX. At the time of failure there was no warning. The truck just shut down making loud wining noises since the transmission was still in gear. This was an extremely stressful event and I was worried that someone was going to strike us at highway speed from the rear. Traffic was heavy that day on [XXX] heading [XXX] towards San Antonio and most left lane speeds were 75-80 mph and bumper to bumper traffic. The GMC Dealer in Weimer was very professional and inspected the engine on Dec 2nd notifying me that is was a total failure and would need to be replaced under warranty. The dealer had a new engine in hand within a few days and the truck was repaired with two weeks. I had a couple other issues with the OnStar system and the wireless after I picked up the truck and drive it home. I returned it to the dealer and proper parts were ordered to replace a bad control module that had failed during the engine failure. It took some additional time on my own after this was replaced to get my OnStar account back up and running correctly. This truck also had "tailgate drop" issues that the dealer fixed. The following day the tailgate dropped two more times in less than a mile. I see there is a service bulletin and recall on most GM models but my truck is not included. I made a service appointment at my local dealership for them to inspect. The service writer already stated that my truck has no open recalls. I feel this is a safety issue first and second my truck has body damage. I use my truck as a truck and usually have stuff in the bed. I have a 2023 6.2L V8 GMC AT4. I have ~ 27,000 miles on the truck. On 2/1/2025, I was driving down the interstate going 78 mph and I lost all power to the truck. This was a MAJOR safety issue because I could only "coast" to a stop. I fortunately was able to get to the emergency lane and call a tow truck. I put others at risk because I had no choice but to move over. I had my truck towed to Brookfield Buick GMC dealership. Because I had no power, I had no HEAT. I sat for 1.5 hours before a tow truck could come to me. I was freezing because it was 20 degrees outside. The dealership told me that I had massive engine failure "seizure", which will require a NEW engine. I had no warning lamps or messages prior to the failure. This was a BIG safety issue and I'm fortunate I didn't get injured.

1) [XXX] - Was driving on the interstate at 65 - 70 mph when the truck suddenly shut off and shifted to neutral. I was in the far left lane and had to coast thru 2 lanes of high speed traffic to the right shoulder before the truck stopped coasting. I started my truck on [XXX] and after driving less than 3 miles the check engine light came on and then light for traction control needs service came on. I stopped and notice engine was idling weird. So I called dealer and they recommended I bring in. I proceeded to drive but could not drive over 40 mph as the engine would not idle past that and started hearing clicking noises. I slowly get the vehicle into service at McKinney GMC Buick in McKinney, TX. Two days later I get a call stating that engine needs to be replaced due to bearing failure and excessive metal in oil and oil filter. Which damaged the engine and is not repairable. The service center informed that this is common with my 6.2 L V8 and there are four other trucks same issues. The engine is on back order and don't know when I will be able to get my vehicle back. This appears to be a known issue for GMC and they are not telling people who could be in danger on road at any moment without warning. POWER TRAIN

Valve Body failure. Truck rear wheels lockup during failure as transmission was unable to get past 6 gear, sending truck into limp mode at highway speeds. Codes P0700 & P0747, no issues before failure. Dealership has replaced the Valve Body, but the part number model MQC part# 24065353 has not been redesigned and feel this will be a continuous issues to saftey not knowing when it will fail again.

The trucks engine completely shut down while going approximately 60 MPH while merging onto the highway. The trucks dash flashed multiple times, a ticking noise was heard, it put itself in neutral, and shut the engine off. All power was lost. I did still have brakes. Safety was a concern as there was a vehicle behind me entering the highway too. Cars to my left as well passing at highway speeds. Once I got the vehicle stopped on the shoulder of the highway it put itself in park. It would not restart. The vehicle was towed to a local GMC dealer. There were no warning lights of any kind that came on. No indication that there was a problem. A couple days later I was informed that the truck would need an entire new engine upon inspection. I was also told by the dealer that the truck had no oil at all in it. The engine consumed it internally by their evaluation.

While idling, I noticed a knocking sound. Dealership found that rockers on both banks not rotating from lifter failure. Dealership replaced both lifter banks. Luckily this was caught early and was corrected for engine failure.

POWER TRAIN

The engine failed with 15,000 miles on it. No warning lights ever came on. Had the oil changed several days prior. Lost power, but was able to drive to the dealer, but making weird noises.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

Was driving my 2023 GMC Sierra in a mild snowstorm after leaving the grocery store and heading home. It was about 10 minutes after dark and it has just started snowing. I was only 5 minutes down the road and the visibility in front of me suddenly & drastically declined. I could barely see the road. I could barely make out anywhere to turn out to. Once pulled over, I walked to the front of the truck and the headlights AND fog lights were completely covered in snow. I wiped them off with my hand and could then see great again. Well, 5ish minutes down the road again and they were back to completely covered. Twice I wasn't able to pull over, due to the steep terrain and no shoulder so, I had to push on, traveling at no more than 4MPH. And getting out during one of the 7 cleanings, I almost slipped and fell. It took me 48 minutes to get home. A trip that usually takes 25! The HID headlights on my other truck don't have this problem. And the aftermarket LED headlights on another vehicle of mine have built in heating elements. You would think the OEM would've thought of this option but, they don't offer it! If it wasn't for my 20+ years experience of driving in the snow, I would've been left stranded or wrecked/totalled the truck due to this major safety oversight!

POWER TRAIN

On Wednesday December 4th 2024 at 5:45 am on my drive to work my engine shut down, truck electronically shifted into neutral, and notified me to restart my engine. After I rolled to a stop in a safe area off the main road i tried to restart my engine, with no success. I then called my local dealership to inform them of the issue, and they instructed me to call OnStar and have them setup a tow to their facility. Once the vehicle was delivered it took the dealership 24 hours to determine that the engine had locked up and a replacement was needed. It has now been almost 2 months with no update on my truck or the replacement engine.

POWER TRAIN

While under light acceleration, the vehicle violently down shifts causing the rear wheels to briefly lock up around 45mph. The vehicle traction control activates on dry road way but no check engine light is displayed. The dealership claims the valve body in the transmission is to blame and has a three month back order due to several vehicles with the same failure. The safety issue could be when the rear wheels breifly lock up during wet or slippery conditions and could cause the vehicle to lose control causing a crash.

My check engine light came on so I stopped at a dealership to have it checked out. The dealership in Louisiana said it just needed to be updated. So I made the trip to Laredo, Texas to go to work. The next day the truck went into reduced acceleration and nearly caused me to wreck on the interstate. I had the vehichle towed to the closest GMV dealership. It turns out these vehicles have a faulty engine coolant control valve. The part is on national back order with no ETA. GMC is knowingly allow their customers to operate the trucks with this part that is know to fail. I am currently stranded in South Texas and I will have to purchase a rental vehicle to get back home to Louisiana. GMC will not help me at all with this situation.

I was driving my 2023 GMC Sierra pickup (26,634 miles) while towing a trailer. I also had three of my children with me. I was in the fast lane doing approximately 65 miles per hour when the vehicle suddenly started to lose power. The Low Oil Pressure light came on the engine started to make a banging sound. Then the vehicle said to turn it off. We immediately started working our way across three lanes of very busy traffic to get to the side of the road. We were almost hit by several semi-trucks and barely made it to the side of the road as the engine turned off. We could not get the truck to start again. It also would not go into neutral. We were in a very dangerous position due to semi-trucks going by us at a very high rate of speed. I had to call a friend to come get my children because I was fearful, we were going to be hit. An officer luckily came by and assisted us. The engine was replaced with a remanufactured engine by the dealer. The technician who worked on the truck said that the bearings failed causing the engine to fail.

Tried to restart the truck, but couldn't not. I had to have the car towed to a dealer. Just got confirmation that my I need a new engine. Then I found that the NHTSA is investigating GMC for this very reason, so I thought I'd file a complaint. * My truck is currently at the dealership, so it is not available for inspection. * While I didn't feel my safety was at risk, If I was driving on a major highway, I may have felt differently. * Yes, problem has been confirmed by a dealership. * Vehicle has not been inspected by anyone other than the dealer. * The check engine light came on at the beginning of the drive, engine failed ~10 min later.

The truck has 12k miles on it and a week ago a bearing rod in the engine failed without warning. An engine should not have significant issues like this after only 12k miles of use. The truck is now with Williams Buick GMC in Charlotte, NC and waiting for a replacement engine.

On [XXX], in the middle of a 600 mile road trip from Idaho to Southern Nevada, the engine failed in our 2023 GMC Sierra with just 23,060 miles on the odometer. We stopped for fuel and upon restarting the engine to continue on our trip, the engine was making a harsh metal on metal knocking. We called for a tow instead of driving further. The truck was towed 242 miles to the nearest dealership (GM Roadside refused to do the tow since it was 42 miles outside of their limit) by our AAA membership. The dealership in Las Vegas took 5-1/2 weeks to look at the truck to determine what had failed. They pulled the oil pan and found that the rod bearings for the #1 and #2 rods had failed. If we had continued on, the rods would have seized and would have lost power to the brakes and steering. It's been nearly three months now, and we have no resolution from GM. They have agreed to a "repurchase" on the truck, but we have not been able to get any details on the buy-back for over three weeks. We are still waiting. I was driving my pickup to my farm. I was on a 4 lane divided highway, when i pulled into the left turning lane my pickup just randomly said "press Start/Stop button" so I stupidly did. The vehicle then shutoff or was already shutoff, I am not sure. There was no warning sign, dash lights, or weird engine noises. I would later learn the engine just blew up. The vehicle would not refire and I was forced to sit in the turning lane for 5 hours waiting for a tow truck. The highway was very busy and vehicles were buzzing past me constantly. Not a safe place to be at all! I could not get the vehicle into neutral or remove the parking brake. Multiple highway patrol officers stopped to help me and try to get the vehicle into neutral so we could pull it off the side of the highway to no avail. I crawled underneath the vehicle and disconnected the drive shaft, but then had no way of removing the parking brake. After many hours of waiting a tow truck showed up and my 1 year old pickup was drug onto it skidding the rear tires. The engine had around 12,000 miles. The vehicle went to a GM dealership for 4 weeks and got a new engine installed.

Going down beltway at 80mph on November 18 2024 the vehicle lost engine power. I had to drift vehicle across 3 lanes to shoulder and called tow truck to take to dealership. The dealership informed me that the engine had went bad and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had 63k miles on it and was out of warranty and they want me to pay 4k to replace.

Truck acted like it would not start several times in a day. Had battery replaced and it still did not fix the issue. Was told by dealership I would need to bring in and let them look at it. Was going to delearship and noticed a llight knocking in my engine then all of a sudden lost power. Was able to coast out of traffic and onto a curb. Truck would not start or even try, yet every light and such still worked. Had taken to dealership and this morning was told it was the engine.

I was driving along the freeway with my family of five. There were no warning lamps. There was an odd noise for about 10 seconds, and then the engine completely seized/locked up. I lost all ability to use the engine. I was able to come across three lanes of traffic, thankfully, without hitting anything without the ability to accelerate. GMC dealership inspected the car the next day. The engine is completely seized up. They are replacing the entire engine, but it has been a month without my car. They still do not have the parts available. We are fortunate. There were no other cars around us and I was able to steer to the Berm Across three lanes. This could’ve caused a catastrophic accident for my family.

While driving along [XXX] in northern Arkansas the on [XXX] my 2023 GMC Sierra Denali's 6.2 engine suddenly locked up causing us to pull on to the shoulder of the road - nearly causing an accident. The vehicle had 23000 miles on it at the time. We were towing a two horse trailer with one horse aboard. At our expense, we had the vehicle and trailer towed back to St. Louis, MO then to O'Fallon Buick GMC. The dealer replaced the entire engine under warranty with a used rebuilt engine. They have omitted the engine replacement from the vehicle history report in CARFAX. The dealer had handled a number of 6.2 engine failures prior to this one. LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while her husband was driving at various speeds, the rear liftgate door erroneously opened. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the exterior touchpad switch assembly was faulty and needed to be replaced. The touchpad switch assembly was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V060000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 35,000.
