2017 GENESIS G80 Complaints and Recall Information
The 2017 GENESIS G80 has 3 complaints and 2 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report engine-related issues including sudden jerking during acceleration, unexpected engine shutdown, and problems with the oil pressure switch. These issues pose potential safety risks while driving.
Common Issues
- Acceleration jerking. Vehicle jerks abruptly and violently at various speeds when accelerating, creating dangerous driving conditions.
- Engine shutdown. The engine has shut off while driving, requiring the vehicle to be stopped before restarting it to continue driving safely.
- Oil pressure switch failure. The oil pressure light illuminates due to an internal leak in the oil pressure switch. Repairs are expensive and warranty coverage has been disputed despite the issue being recognized by the manufacturer in other markets.
There are 2 recalls affecting electrical and braking systems that could increase the risk of fire while driving or parked. These recalls involve critical components such as the starter solenoid and ABS module.
Recalls
- Starter solenoid. NHTSA recall 24V107000 affects 90,907 vehicles. Water intrusion may cause an electrical short that can start an engine compartment fire. Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until repairs are made. Dealers will install a relay kit free of charge.
- ABS module fuse. NHTSA recall 21V160000 involves 94,646 vehicles. The Anti-Lock Brake System module can short circuit and cause an engine compartment fire. Owners should park outside until the fuse is replaced by dealers at no cost.
Owners with repeated issues involving engine failures, safety system malfunctions, or unresolved recall repairs may have rights under their state lemon law. Consulting a qualified attorney can help determine possible legal options.

At 63,230 miles the engine oil pressure light would illuminate on my 2017 Genesis G80. I took it to the dealer and the technician found the oil pressure switch on my car went bad and in the words of the mechanic was leaking internally. This is a known issue by Genesis/Hyundai as they are performing repairs in Korea (where this vehicle is built and assembled) for this very problem. But in America they are refusing to honor the warranty which under powertrain is valid for 10 years/100,000 miles. Proper function of the engine is clearly a part of the powertrain. The warranty further goes on to state that under engine, "gaskets and seals" are covered. The repairs I had to have performed at great expense for a failed oil pressure switch seemed clear to me under the warranty. Not only a known issue and covered where the car is made, but they seem to know they have a huge issue based on Genesis Forums and their complaints the numbers are large; they don't want to have to make it right for the owners.
