The 2014 FREIGHTLINER SPRINTER 3500 has 0 complaints and 8 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to safety systems and electronic controls through official recalls rather than direct complaints.
There are multiple recalls affecting safety and electronic systems. The issues involve air bag inflators, electronic stability control components, and software affecting vehicle safety features.
Recalls- Electronic Stability Control (ESC) unit. Recall 21V042000 affects 48,667 vehicles. The ESC unit may become disabled, impacting driving stability and increasing crash risk under certain conditions. Dealers replace the rear-wheel speed sensor with a more robust one free of charge.
- Driver frontal air bag inflator. Recall 16V077000 covers 136,361 vehicles. The inflator may rupture upon deployment due to excessive internal pressure, risking injury from metal fragments. The inflator is replaced free of charge by dealers.
- Air bag control unit reinforcement. Recall 17V093000 affects 15,338 vehicles. Vehicles lack a reinforcement plate and protective bracket, which may prevent additional air bags from deploying after the initial impact. Dealers install the needed reinforcement parts at no cost.
- Electrical system software conflict. Recall 17V272000 involves 3 vehicles. Software updates may conflict with vehicle computers, causing problems with the ESC, air bag control unit, or engine management, which could increase crash or injury risk. Dealers update control unit software free of charge.
- Passenger frontal air bag inflator. Recall 19V004000 covers 88,388 vehicles. The inflator may explode due to propellant degradation after long-term exposure to humidity and temperature changes. Dealers replace the entire front passenger air bag module free of charge.
Owners dealing with repeated repairs, safety defects, or outstanding recall remedies may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting a qualified attorney can help clarify available legal options.

ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC):CONTROL MODULE
Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2012-2018 Mercedes Benz Sprinter 3500 and Freightliner Sprinter 3500 vehicles upfitted into campers or recreational vehicles. The Electronic Stability Control (ESC) unit may become disabled on these vehicles.
Risk: If ESC becomes disabled, vehicle driving stability may be impacted under certain driving conditions, increasing the risk of a crash.

88388 vehicles affected
AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:PASSENGER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2014-2017 Freightliner Sprinter 2500 and 3500 and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vehicles. These vehicles are equipped with certain air bag inflators assembled as part of the passenger frontal air bag modules used as original equipment or replacement equipment. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger frontal air bag, these inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to absolute humidity and temperature cycling.
Risk: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE
Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2013-2014 Freightliner Sprinter and 2016 Mercedes-Benz Metris vehicles. During vehicle servicing, the affected vehicles received software updates that may conflict with some of the vehicle's computers.
Risk: The improper software may cause problems with the electronic stability control system, the air bag control unit or the engine management software. These problems can result in an increased risk of a crash or an increased risk of injury in the event of a crash.
2014 FREIGHTLINER SPRINTER 3500
15338 vehicles affected
AIR BAGS
Daimler Vans USA, LLC (DVUSA) is recalling certain 2013-2016 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500 and 3500 and Freightliner Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vans. These vehicles were manufactured without a reinforcement plate and protective bracket on the air bag control unit. As a result, the air bag control unit may not remain functional after the initial impact, possibly preventing additional air bags from deploying in response to a secondary impact.
Risk: If additional air bags do not deploy as intended, the occupants are at an increased risk of injury.
2014 FREIGHTLINER SPRINTER 3500
136361 vehicles affected
AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:DRIVER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
Daimler Vans USA, LLC (Daimler Vans) is recalling certain model year 2007-2009 Dodge Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vehicles manufactured July 1, 2006, to July 31, 2008, 2007-2014 Freightliner Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vehicles manufactured July 1, 2006, to July 1, 2014, and 2010-2014 Mercedes Benz Sprinter 2500 and 3500 vehicles manufactured July 1, 2010, to July 1, 2014. Upon deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture.
Risk: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants potentially resulting in serious injury or death.
