The 2010 FREIGHTLINER FLD has 0 complaints and 5 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most often report issues related to engine shutdown, engine cooling, and brake system deficiencies due to recall actions. No direct complaints have been filed by owners regarding this model.
There are five recalls affecting various systems, including the engine, exterior lighting, and air brake reservoirs. These recalls address serious safety-related defects that impact engine operation, fire hazards, vehicle visibility, and brake performance.
Recalls- Engine shutdown defect. Recall 10V112000 affects 16 vehicles where the engine may shut down unexpectedly due to a diesel particulate filter over temperature detected. This faulty shutdown could hamper rescue operations. The fix reprograms engine control logic to illuminate a malfunction indicator light instead of shutting down the engine.
- Intake air grid heater fire risk. Recall 10V341000 covers 5,743 trucks with specific MBE900 EPA engines. The heater may short circuit and fail from excessive temperature, risking vehicle fire and occupant injury. Dealers will repair the heater free of charge.
- Intake air grid heater recall extension. Recall 11V146000 applies to 2,073 vehicles with MBE4000 EPA engines. Similar to 10V341000, the grid heater may short circuit, causing fire risks. Repairs are expected to begin in late 2011 and performed by authorized dealers at no cost.
- Rear reflective tape visibility. Recall 20V214000 affects 63,175 vehicles including the 2010 FLD. The rear reflective tape may be partially obscured by the mudflap hanger bracket, reducing visibility and increasing crash risk. Dealers will reposition the tape free of charge.
- Insufficient air brake reservoir capacity. Recall 19V370000 involves 741 vehicles with inadequate service brake air reservoirs. This condition may reduce braking effectiveness and increase crash risk. Dealers will add air reservoir capacity as a remedy.
Owners dealing with repeated repairs or unresolved recall issues related to safety defects may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting a qualified attorney can help clarify available remedies.
