  • Fuel pump element (10V339000). The Bosch high pressure fuel pump element may develop cracks due to hydrogen induced stress corrosion, causing diesel fuel leaks. This affects 13,410 vehicles manufactured between February 19, 2009, and July 9, 2010. Fuel leaks increase crash risk. Daimler Trucks will repair pumps free of charge starting about March 28, 2011.
  • Low pressure fuel flange (10V189000). Fuel filter restriction may cause the low pressure fuel flange to crack and leak fuel. 30,704 vehicles from January 1, 2007, to April 5, 2010, are affected. Fuel leaks can result in crashes. The flange will be replaced free of charge. Recall began September 17, 2010.
  • Engine intake air grid heater (10V341000). Certain MBE900 engines may short circuit the intake air grid heater from excessive temperatures, risking vehicle fire and injury for 5,743 vehicles from September 5, 2006, to June 30, 2010. Repairs will be done by authorized facilities at no cost starting July 29, 2011.
  • Rack and pinion steering (11V514000). Corrosion and failure of the lower pinion bearing may damage spool valve seals, causing unintended steering movements. This defect affects 9,689 trucks built from November 1, 2004, to June 15, 2010, increasing crash risk. Inspections and replacements will be made free of charge. Owners were notified starting December 2011.
  • Fuel pump element expansion (11V287000). An expanded recall affecting 268 vehicles from February 19, 2009, through July 9, 2010, addresses cracked Bosch fuel pump elements causing fuel leaks. Repairs are free of charge, beginning May 18, 2011.
  • Engine intake air grid heater expansion (11V146000). Additional 2,073 vehicles from March 20, 2006, to June 30, 2010, with MBE4000 engines subject to intake air grid heater failures. Fire risk is increased. Repair notices issued March 2011 with expected remedy by December 1, 2011.
  • Electronic stability control (ESC) software (11V465000). Meritor Wabco ESC systems may misinterpret vehicle roll and apply brakes, causing loss of control. This affects 4,444 vehicles built between September 15, 2005, and September 1, 2011. Risk of crash increases if driver is slow to react. Software updates began March 28, 2012, free of charge.
  • High pressure fuel line support system (12V074000). Incorrect assembly torque or service damage may loosen fuel line supports, leading to cracks and leaks in 103,437 vehicles from January 20, 2006, through February 20, 2012. Leaks risk crashes and fires. Repairs began April 27, 2012, free of charge.

DAIMLER TRUCKS (DTNA) IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2006-2013 FREIGHTLINER, STERLING, AND WESTERN STAR VEHICLES, EQUIPPED WITH DETROIT DIESEL EPA07 AND EPA10, DD13 AND DD15/16 ENGINES, MANUFACTURED FROM JANUARY 20, 2006, THROUGH FEBRUARY 20, 2012. THE PUMP TO RAIL HIGH PRESSURE FUEL LINE SUPPORT SYSTEM USED ON THESE ENGINES IS SENSITIVE TO ASSEMBLY TORQUE AND MAY BE DAMAGED DURING SERVICE WORK. AS A RESULT OF OTHER REPAIRS, THE LINE SUPPORTS MAY LOOSEN, POTENTIALLY LEADING TO FUEL LINE CRACKING AND A FUEL LEAK.

Risk: A FUEL LEAK COULD CREATE A ROAD HAZARD, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. ALSO A FUEL LEAK IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE CAN RESULT IN A FIRE.

DAIMLER TRUCKS IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2006-2012 FREIGHTLINER BUSINESS CLASS M2, CASCADIA, CENTURY, COLUMBIA, CORONADO AND STERLING A-LINE VEHICLES BUILT WITH MERITOR WABCO ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) SYSTEM MANUFACTURED FROM SEPTEMBER 15, 2005 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 1, 2011. UNDER CERTAIN ROAD AND DRIVING CONDITIONS, VEHICLE BODY ROLL AND ROAD INCLINATION CHARACTERISTICS MAY ADVERSELY AFFECT THE SLIP ANGLE CALCULATION OF THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) SYSTEM. THIS MIGHT CAUSE THE ESC TO PERCEIVE AN OVER STEERING SITUATION AND THEREFORE APPLY THE OUTER WHEEL BRAKE ON THE FRONT AXLE UNTIL THE VEHICLE IS PERCEIVED TO BE STABLE.

Risk: IF THE DRIVER IS SLOW TO REACT DURING THIS ESC INTERVENTION, THE VEHICLE MAY DEVIATE FROM THE INTENDED LINE OF TRAVEL INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

THE LOWER PINION BEARING MAY CORRODE AND FAIL. A FAILED BEARING MAY LEAD TO DAMAGE OF THE SPOOL VALVE SEALS. A DAMAGE SPOOL VALVE SEAL MAY ALLOW HYDRAULIC FLUID TO FLOW TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT TURN PORT INSTEAD OF FLOWING TO THE RETURN PORT.
