Water intrusion can corrode the circuit board in the handheld remote, allowing the winch to operate unintentionally. This unintentional operation increases the risk of injury. Owners are instructed to inspect the remote and disable wireless function by removing the battery pack. If corrosion is found, use of the remote should stop and WARN customer service contacted for a free replacement remote. Owner notifications were mailed in September 2023.
  • Electrical system risk. See recall 23V343000 for details on electrical defects caused by water entering the handheld remote control. The defect can cause unintentional winch operation posing injury risks. The fix procedures and owner instructions are the same as described in the mechanical winch recall above.

Owners dealing with repeated repairs or unresolved recall issues related to safety defects may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting an attorney familiar with consumer protection law could provide guidance on potential remedies.
