My vehicle had been experiencing overheating issues for several years. This would cause my car to go into limp mode making it dangerous for me and other cars around me to have to go around me. This issue is related to a manufacturing defect caused by the design of the motor cooling system. As a result of this defect I had to pay $8k+ to have this car repaired with a new engine. I am thankful no one was hurt or killed as a result of this defect. It could have caused my car to start on fire. Ford needs to take responsibility for this issue.

I recently bought a gear shift bushing cap for the cable since the cable is loose. I bought the part at Tasca Ford in Cranston, RI. The part was hard to find. It’s the same issue as the recall for the same car b ur years prior. Cap disintegrated since its plastic and next to the engine. The most recent part I bought that was used as genuine replacement has also disintegrated. I can see the pieces of it corroded. I need to buy another one but it’s going to happen again since it’s a faulty design. The first time it happened months ago caused my car to go into park. I couldn’t move it out of the way in the street. It would let me put it in neutral. The second time it happened today the car got stuck in neutral and it took many tries to get it into park. Everything is in tact except the plastic bushing cap and part that clips the cable to the vehicle is corroded. Simple fix but unsafe and happens randomly.

The engine has suffered a complete failure due to a known defect in the 1.5L EcoBoost. This issue was already repaired once under Ford Customer Satisfaction Program 19B37/21N12 (engine short block replacement) on 10/12/2020 at Stilwell Ford, before I owned the vehicle. Less than 5 years later, the exact same defect has occurred again. Details of Failure: •Vehicle began running rough with loss of power and abnormal engine noise. •A compression test performed by my repair shop shows: Cylinder 4 = 0 psi compression, with cylinder wall scoring and oil intrusion. •Shop diagnosis: engine requires complete replacement (~$7,000 repair). •Symptoms are identical to the coolant intrusion / cylinder failure defect covered by Ford’s prior CSP. •This is the second time this defect has occurred on the same vehicle. Safety Risk: •Vehicle misfires and shakes violently, making it unsafe to drive. •Sudden loss of power and potential stalling in traffic pose a serious risk of crash. •Drivers are given no warning before engine failure occurs. Manufacturer Response: •Ford acknowledges this defect under CSP 19B37/21N12 but refuses further coverage since it was “already repaired” once. •As a second owner, I never received notice of the defect. •The fact that the failure recurred shows Ford’s repair program did not fully resolve the defect. Request: I am reporting this as a repeat safety defect. The failure has occurred again after Ford’s supposed remedy. NHTSA should investigate whether Ford’s CSP repairs adequately resolve the defect, and whether additional recalls or coverage extensions are warranted.

Vehicle is experiencing coolant intrusion from a crack in the engine block which is a known issue by Ford for my particular vehicle year (2017). Ford has issued a TSB/Recall for model years 2017-2019, but when I contacted Ford, I was told my car is not eligible/included in the recall because of the plant that the vehicle was manufactured at. I believe this issue should qualify for manufacturer recall as this is known issue.

My engine experienced coolant intrusion into cylinder #2, which caused misfiring and engine failure. This has been a known issue with this year model, but since I am just outside of the warranty mileage (69K) and my VIN doesn't have any recalls, I have been advised to purchase a replacement engine. I simply cannot afford to replace an engine in a car I am still paying a loan for. For this to be a known issue and not be recalled is a serious safety concern and has caused me to lose confidence in the manufacturer. I am currently trying to see what a shop near me would charge to replace it but I am not sure that I can afford the repair costs. I shouldn't be expected to need to replace an engine when the year model has known issues and I have taken care of any and all maintenance on the car to keep it running well. I expected to have this car for many more years, especially with the low mileage and how well I've cared for it.

The vehicle's engine is experiencing coolant intrusion. As such, when starting the car, white and sweet-smelling exhaust exits the exhaust pipe. Furthermore, the coolant reservoir continually runs low; however, we find no coolant on the driveway or apparently leaking from the car. That supports the mechanics assessment of a coolant intrusion. This issue, if left unaddressed, will cause the engine to run improperly, the spark plugs to become fouled, the engine to overheat, etc. I took the vehicle to a local certified mechanic. Although after looking at Ford's service bulletin, it became apparent that the vehicle is experiencing a similar issue to other 2017 models that were included in the recall. The mechanic listened to what we said and pulled up supporting documentation in the form of a Technical Service Bulletin. The check engine light just came up, within the past couple of days, well after the coolant intrusion was started. The disrepair seems to be a matter of timing. The subject has been driven quickly and cautiously.

What malfunctioned- Car did not give any notice that it was in engine failure for months other than under performing and upon taking it to the ford dealership was never helped with the problem they took money for an oil change and works package but failed to make sure my car was safe. My car was a safety hazard bc it gave zero warning that it was loosing power and when the engine did fail I knew something had been wrong for almost a year and felt it went ignored by Ford and was taken advantage of. The product has been confirmed by multiple mechanics that what causes it is the hose cracks and thus the engine coolant wrecks a working engine. Ford knows it’s a problem but isn’t acknowledging it and makes more money off of parts.

In July 2025, my 2017 Ford Fusion SE (EcoBoost engine) was diagnosed with coolant intrusion into cylinder #4 by Sunrise Ford in North Hollywood, CA. This is a known issue with the 1.5L and 2.0L EcoBoost engines and is addressed in Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 19-2208. The vehicle had only 76,000 miles at the time and had been regularly serviced and well-maintained. Over the past 1–2 years, I received repeated warnings during oil changes that my coolant levels were unusually low, though no leaks were found. In July 2025, the check engine light (CEL) appeared. The vehicle exhibited rough idle at cold start, but otherwise drove normally. I immediately brought the car to the dealership, where they confirmed the problem through diagnostics and plug inspection. The dealership quoted me $11,000–$12,000 to replace the engine (long block). Ford Customer Relations (CRC) was contacted and denied financial assistance, citing the age of the vehicle. They also acknowledged this is a known issue and suggested I file a report with the NHTSA, which I am now doing. This engine failure presents a serious safety risk. The CEL appeared without warning during normal use. A driver unfamiliar with the signs of internal coolant loss could continue operating the vehicle, risking a sudden loss of engine power, stalling, or further engine damage while in motion. In my case, the failure occurred quietly and was only caught because I acted quickly. Had I ignored the CEL or rough idle, engine failure could have occurred at highway speed. The issue was confirmed and documented by a Ford dealer. I am no longer in possession of the vehicle, as I was forced to sell it at a loss due to the cost of repairs. The vehicle is no longer available for inspection, but all related documentation has been retained.

But for those that didn’t get their vehicles in during that time frame are supposed to pay out of pocket for a defect ford knew to exist and have no issued a recall on these vehicles.

I purchased my 2017 Ford Fusion Titanium brand new with only 5 miles, from a dealership in Ky. My car recently started idling rough when I started it up. I took my car to a mechanic, after the check engine light came on. The code read misfire on cylinder 3, they replaced spark plugs and coils for $600, but only a few days later the check engine light came back on, still rough idling. I take my car to a 2nd mechanic $200, to find out that there is a “coolant intrusion” in the cylinders, indicating I would need a new engine. In disbelief, I take my car to a 3rd mechanic, $100. I have records from two different mechanic shops showing that there is a coolant intrusion in the engine, which is a "manufacturer defect". I called Ford's Corporate Office for help and apparently my VIN was not a part of any recall, although there are many recalls for the same issue, in the same year and model! There’s a recall on the car engine itself (per 3rd mechanic). Ford told me they couldn’t do anything about their manufacturer issue. Research initiated by the mechanic indicated that Ford Fusion cars with the same make and model, along with many other Ford models in the same year of 2017-2019 had the same issue of coolant intrusion into the cylinders and have been recalled. There are also active lawsuits over the same issue. It’s honestly unbelievable and disheartening that my car is not a part of the recall when it’s doing the exact SAME thing as others with the same year and model, which have already been recalled. I cannot afford to put a new engine in my car. It should have lasted a lot longer, and would have, if it weren't for a Ford manufacturer issue. I have all the documentation as needed, which states that I need a new engine and that the engine itself has already been recalled (however, the VIN shows no recall for the car). I will also be reporting this issue to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Thank you for your time on this matter.

When my wife returned home from shopping she parked in the driveway I was going out so I had to move her car to get to mine. I saw a puddle of brake fluid on the ground and the brake light was on there was no fluid in the master cylinder . the car was towed to my mechanic and he found a rotted brake in the rear of the car up between the gas tank and rear seat right under a rubber clamp that holds the line this could have caused a tragedy. I connected Ford they said rusted brake lines are not covered even though they are coated.

Engine is losing coolant into the cylinders which causes car to overheat. When this happens car shakes and runs rough. When this occurs while driving down the road, thick white smoke comes from the exhaust blinding the cars behind us. If car dies, you lose power steering and brakes become very difficult to push. We had a repair shop check it out and coolant is leaking on top of the piston and exiting through the exhaust. The engine light comes on just before car begins to act up. According to our mechanic, it appears the engine block has a design flaw and Ford has issued a Technical Service Bulletin explaining the problem. Attached a picture of when it just begins to smoke. After a few seconds it fills the entire shop.

My Ford Fusion eco boost 2017 had a faulty shifter cable bushing. When the vehicle turned off, parked (not on a hill thankfully due to safety and rolling backwards) thinking it was in park, it would not start and not go into gear and the vehicle would not shift into gears and the wrench light came on shift malfunction light came open. This was inspected, verified, and repaired at the Brandon Ford dealer when we had to get the car towed to them. All service for this car has been by Brandon Ford. They installed new bushings and cap, adjusted cable and cleaned codes, and retested as ok after repair. When researched we noted a recall on Ford Fusions with this same problem for safety issues putting owners at risk due to confusion of car in what gear it was actually in despite thinking it was in park, may have been in reverse if car was on but if car off would not start. The recall campaign number for the Ford Fusion (2013-29`17) shifter cable bushing issue is 22S43/22V413. This recall was issued on June 2022 addressing the safety of preventing the transmission from shifting properly and causing a vehicle to roll unexpectedly when parked. I had the car repaired on 04/29/25 and paid in full on my Discover card $890.72. I submitted documentation to Ford but they denied reimbursement for my claim. Would you be so kind to advise me how to register my VIN for this recall and get Ford reimbursement? Noticed difficulty starting the vehicle and smoke coming out of the exhaust and the check engine light came on with code PO302. Found this was associated with coolant leaking into the engine which caused the coolant level to decrease and had to add coolant to prevent the car from over heating. These leaking fluids could have leaked onto exhaust parts causing the smoke and possibly could have started a fire in the vehicle. I took the vehicle to Rodeo Ford in Goodyear Az. and they confirmed the code displayed and smoke coming from the exhaust and had to add more coolant right away. They confirmed coolant was leaking into the engine and checked for the recall and said my vehicle was not listed as part of the recall even though other 2017 Ford Fusions were part of the recall. They replaced the engine costing me $10,039.35 and said that the vehicle may be added later to the recall NHTSA Recall ID 17V209

My Fusion is a 2017 and in 2015 Ford reported a problem with the Eco-Boost engines. The issues is there is a flaw in the production of the engine that could cause a crack in the cylinder and allow coolant to enter the chamber and once that happens the engine fails. Ford did offer a customary recall for the engine, but it was limited on miles and time. I was never informed of the customary recall. My engine has a small crack that has leaked a small amount of coolant into the cylinder. The car still functions. My concern is that if the engine fails while it is being driven, that the engine will seize and the car will stop, and an accident could occur. Since I was sold a car with the defective engine, and it was not disclosed to me, I want ford to replace the engine, since my engine has the defect, before it becomes a safety hazard.

The Rotary Gear Shift Dial has malfunctioned on my teenager's vehicle. His safety was put at risk because it started lighting up as he was driving on a very busy highway the first time that it was noticed to have happened. On 5/26, the vehicle would start, it physically felt like it shifted into the D gear, but would only drive maybe 1 foot until the car was force stopped and said "SHIFT SYS FAULT" The vehicle has been inspected and diagnosed by a veteran mechanic, with being able to reproduce the issue. He assumed what it was before even inspecting it. We live in a smaller town, and he informed me this morning that he's replaced 7 of these in the last calendar year alone. What is completely asinine, is the fact that FORD IS NO LONGER MAKING THIS PART, so we have to find a used one at a junk yard. Other than this issue, his car has appeared to be in very good shape, has been maintained well and clean. Why is there not a recall on this issue?

We own a 2017 ford fusion with 72,000 miles and I took it to the dealer because the engine light came on, after a couple of days at the dealer they contacted me and said I needed a new engine due to the coolant intruding in one of the pistons , I did some research on line and found out that a lot of other people seem to have had the same issue with the 2.0 eco boost engine and found out that the engine block is defective from the manufacturer, I reached out to Ford customer service and they said they couldn’t help me with this issue since my warranty was expired , I ended up replacing the engine for a new one at a cost of over 8,300 dlls and I was told to keep my receipt in case of a recall on this issue . I didn’t want to buy another car since I I just had purchase a 2025 F-150 and i don’t want 2 car payments and my wife’s 2017 ford fusion is in an immaculate condition except for the engine failure .

I reported this issue back on July 1, 2022. My car was getting stuck in park and when I would get it into gear (reverse), once I put it in drive it automatically switched back to park. The gear shift bushing had broken on my car and I had to have it repaired. As of today, the bushing continues to get stuck in park and I have to turn my car off and back on, press the brake multiple times in order to get it in gear, rather reverse or drive. It continuously gets stuck. I know there was a recall on the gear shifts from 2012-2016 Fusion models. Something needs to be done about this for the 2017 model. I am afraid that once again I will be stranded with my child because my car wont go into gear and will remain in park.

My vehicle was just disagnosed with the coolant intrusion issue outlined in TSB 19-2346. I have owned this car for over 6 years and not once has anybody mentioned this well-known issue to me. I am disappointed I had to find out about it by experiencing it firsthand, and then going online and reading the stories of counless other drivers who have had the same issue. This engine design is clearly faulty and Ford has been aware of the issue with these engines since at least 2019. How can it be 2025 and a recall has not been initiated??? This is unacceptable. I am now stuck with a $10,000 repair bill for a new engine because the dealer repair tech warned me not to drive it any further without repair or else risk an engine fire or even an engine seizure which would likely cause an accident. Had I been aware of this inevitible issue sooner (due to a recall or any other manditory notice), I would have traded the car in long ago.

On 3/8 the car stopped moving while driving. No warning lights came on, no check engine lights, no fluid leaks etc. Ford spent 3 weeks investigating and said there was metal flakes in the transmission fluid. Towed it to a transmission shop whom immediately reported “large chunks of metal” in the transmission fluid. Advising the transmission was degrading from the inside. Agin no warning lights or check engine light are illuminated on the dash. Entire transmission will need to be replaced at 97,000 miles!

I was driving under the posted speed limit on a road near my house going to pick my kids up from school. I was approaching a stop sign at an intersection and began to press on the brake pedal. The pedal traveled all the way to the floor as I was coming yo the stop sign. A driver was approaching me from the left headed east and my car went into the street past the stop sign and the other driver hit me which in turn caused his vehicle to roll over and mine was damaged as well which turned out to be totaled. The brakes began to work again right as the gentleman hit me. I never knew about the recall and when that happened I got onto the web and out in my VIN and saw it was recalled. I need to know what’s going to be dealt with here!

Defective head gasket or other parts led to coolant entering into the engine and causing the engine to sputter and seize. The car randomly started hiccupping while driving and would rock back and forth when trying to accelerate. The car would launch slowly from a start and made a right turn on red risky. The problem has been confirmed by a Ford dealer. The mechanic said this is a "known problem" with these engines. This problem/engine, however, is not covered under warranty. The vehicle was inspected by a Ford dealership. There was a check engine light 3 days prior with no symptoms. The code came back with a cylinder 2 misfire. I made an appointment for the closest day possible. After 2 days, the car was a bit shaky and the unusual vibration was noticeable. On the third day, there were issues with power delivery, the sputtering became audible, and the shaking was intense. I brought my car into the dealer immediately.

We looked on the internet and found out that there is a recall on 2017 Fusions. We found out that this problem can cause fires in the car. Since this has been a problem in the past for Fusions We think this should be a recall concern since this has been a problem in the past with these vehicles. I obtained my vehicle on Lease in 2017 with 40K miles from Ford of Branford CT. When off lease I purchased it outright. I still own the vehicle and am still having Two main problems, One since almost the beginning. The First is the automatic seat control(driver's). This system would periodically push the driver into the Steering Wheel. I brought it into that dealership several times for that reason, while still in CT. They did claim to get it to stop doing this with some resets, but over time it continued. Around 2020, the vehicle began going totally dead. Initially it was determined to be the Starting Battery. My concern was it to ba a Compiter or Power drain problem. Several batteries and Dealership visits didn't solve it. I moved to SC in May 2022. These problems continued there, where Cox Ford of Southern Pines took over. After more Service visits the only answer was a BAD BATTERY. Recently, after returning from Vacation and having to jump start the vehicle two times, I had several conversations with the service department. Finally a new Service writer found some information. A Technical Service Bulletin described how in this vehicle, how under seat wiring for the automatic seats, were becoming frayed and shorting on metal rails.(182025A). Also another for Battery Drain (SSM 50250). My Automotive background (which I no longer do) Tells me that electric seat wiring, grounding against seat rails could cause the Battery to be Draining. I believe they could be connected.

Also another for Battery Drain (SSM 50250). My Automotive background (which I no longer do) Tells me that electric seat wiring, grounding against seat rails could cause the Battery to be Draining. I believe they could be connected.

Hello, Christmas Day my daughter, grandson, and I went to the movies to see Sonic. Afterwards we were waiting at the red light and when the light turned green I pressed the gas. The car did not advance forward but rolled into the middle of the road. The blessing for us was that it was Christmas and not alot of traffic in this area that is normally very crowded. I was able to put the car in reverse and move back enough to move to the side of the road. This had me scared.
