Risk: A brake fluid leak will increase brake pedal travel and extend the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2019 Escape, 2013-2018 C-Max, 2013-2016 Fusion, 2013-2021 Transit Connect, and 2015-2018 Edge vehicles. The bushing that attaches the shifter cable to the transmission may degrade or detach.

Risk: A damaged or missing bushing may prevent the vehicle from shifting into the intended gear, and cause the vehicle to move in an unexpected direction. Additionally, the vehicle may roll after the driver selects the 'Park' position. Either scenario increases the risk of a crash or injury.

These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 or 17V-210, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.

Risk: A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.

STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2016 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ, 2015-2016 Ford Edge, and 2016 Lincoln MKX vehicles originally sold, or currently registered in Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Road salt or other contaminants may corrode the electric power steering gear motor attachment bolts.

Risk: If the bolts corrode, the steering gear motor may detach from the gear housing resulting in a loss of power steering assist, requiring a greater steering effort, especially at lower speeds, and increasing the risk of a crash.

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE:FLOOR SHIFT

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2016 Fusion vehicles equipped with 2.5 liter engines. The bushing that attaches the transmission shifter cable to the transmission may degrade over time and cause the bushing to detach from the transmission. The condition could allow the driver to move the shift lever to Park and remove the ignition key, while the transmission may not be in Park, with no warning message or audible chime.

Risk: If the vehicle is exited without the transmission being in Park and without the parking brake being applied, the vehicle may unexpectedly move, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2014-2018 Lincoln MKZ and Ford Fusion vehicles. The steering wheel retaining bolt may loosen allowing the steering wheel to detach while driving.

Risk: A steering wheel detachment can cause a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.

POWER TRAIN:MANUAL TRANSMISSION

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2014 Ford Fusion vehicles equipped with a 1.6L GTDI engine and 6-speed manual transmission and 2015-2016 Ford Focus vehicles equipped with a 1.0L GTDI engine and 6-speed manual transmission. Also included are four 2017 Ford Focus vehicles that had clutch replacements with potentially affected parts. The clutch may fracture, resulting in damage to the transmission assembly and possibly a transmission fluid leak.

Risk: A transmission fluid leak in the presence of an ignition source such as hot engine or exhaust components can increase the risk of a fire.

Risk: If the cylinder head cracks and leaks oil, the oil may contact a hot engine or exhaust component, increasing the risk of a fire.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2013-2016 Ford Fusion vehicles manufactured November 2, 2012, to July 31, 2014, and 2013-2015 Lincoln MKZ vehicles manufactured November 14, 2012, to July 31, 2014. In the event of a crash, heat from the deployment of a seat belt pretensioner may cause a front seat belt anchor cable to fail.

Risk: If the driver or front passenger seatbelt cables cannot properly restrain the front seat occupants, they would be at an increased risk of injury.

STEERING:ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles manufactured February 3, 2012, to March 20, 2015, and 2015 Ford Edge vehicles manufactured February 26, 2015, to February 28, 2015, and originally sold, or currently registered in, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia. In the affected vehicles, snow or water containing road salt or other contaminants may corrode the electric power steering gear motor attachment bolts.

Risk: If the bolts corrode, the steering gear motor may detach from the gear housing resulting in a loss of power steering assist. Loss of power steering assist would require a higher steering effort, especially at lower speeds, which may increase the risk of a crash.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) notified the agency on April 23, 2015, that they are recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles manufactured July 1, 2012, to May 31, 2013, and 2012-2014 Fiesta vehicles manufactured February 1, 2012, to May 31, 2013. On April 30, 2015, Ford expanded the recall to cover an additional 119,567 vehicles, including certain model year 2011 Ford Fiestas manufactured from November 11, 2009, to May 31, 2013 and certain model year 2013 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles manufactured from February 1, 2012, to June 30, 2012. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM/PCM/TECM)

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Ford Fusion vehicles manufactured July 27, 2013, to October 31, 2014, 2015 Ford Fusion Hybrid vehicles manufactured February 24, 2014, to October 31, 2014, and 2015 Ford Fusion Energi vehicles manufactured July 14, 2014, to October 31, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the key may be able to be removed even while the transmission is not in Park. Thus, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 114, "Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention."

Risk: If the key can be removed despite that the transmission is not in Park, a driver may think the vehicle is safety parked, when it is not, increasing the risk of a vehicle rollaway that could cause the vehicle to strike and injure the driver, other vehicle occupants, or bystanders.

SEATS:FRONT ASSEMBLY:RECLINER

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles manufactured August 15, 2012, through September 10, 2013, 2013-2014 Ford Escape vehicles manufactured June 5, 2012, through August 12, 2013, and 2013-2014 Ford C-Max vehicles manufactured from July 23, 2012, through May 28, 2013. The driver and passenger seatback assemblies may have been produced with sub-standard weld joints used to attach the seat back recliner mechanism to the seat frame. The affected seat backs may have insufficient strength to meet the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 207, "Seating Systems."

Risk: The back of the subject seats may become loose or lean while driving and potentially increase the risk of injury in certain crashes.

2014 Ford Fusion 4D 2Wd SE Backup camera started when my car was 9 to 10 years old occasionally goes black and show reversed but not upside down. Within 5 months it continually shows images reversed. I attempted to do a software update but since it was over 10 years old at the time I was not allowed to I also spoke to the car dealership and was told that was correct. No recalls on the backup camera I was told I would need to pay between 500 and 1000 dollars to have it fixed. I found a site on the internet that say the 2014 also had a recall but the Ford site does not show my vin indicating that is true.

Recent problem with the backup camera on a 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid that intermittently shows the image in reverse- right is left and left is right. This is very dangerous when backing up . Ford is aware of the problem and has recalls on other models with the same problem but not ours.

AdvanceTrac stopped working in my car due a sensor. Had to get it replaced by Midas. The contact owns a 2014 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while his son was driving approximately 70 MPH, the check engine warning illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle went into LIMP Mode, and his son was able to coast to the side of the highway. The contact drove out to his son's location and was able to clear the codes using a handheld scanner and the vehicle was able to be driven back to the residence. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent, and the vehicle was showing other symptoms. The contact stated that the vehicle was idling rough after a cold start and occasionally was blowing white smoke from the exhaust pipe. The contact stated that 2 years prior the vehicle exhibited the same symptoms, and the vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed that there was coolant intrusion into the engine block, and the engine was replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle was under warranty at the time of the failure. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and confirmed that there was coolant intrusion into the engine, and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 86,825.

ENGINE

Coolant is leaking into the head gasket of the 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid similar to the other 2014 Ford Fusion cars (they have a recall on them for this issue). Upon calling the nearest Ford dealership, I was told that the recall did not apply to my vehicle, even though the same recall has been made for other 2014 Ford Fusions (just not the hybrid specifically). The safety of the driver and passengers in the car is at risk due to the coolant fluid mixing into the engine oil, eventually causing a blown head gasket and potentially engine failure. This problem was identified within minutes of getting a routine oil change, as coolant was found in the cap of the head gasket. The vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. There were no warning signs. The car notified me when I needed to change my oil, but otherwise, no dash lights came on and no notifications were sent to the dash.

ENGINE

On cold startup, a significant amount of white exhaust is sometimes observed coming out of the tailpipes. The exhaust has a sweet aroma and after checking the coolant levels, it appears that the coolant levels have dropped and the exhaust smoke is being caused by a coolant intrusion into the engine block. No warning lights have been observed and it only happens about half of the time.

The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the messages "Service - AdvanceTrac Off", "Hill start Assist Unavailable", and "Steering Assist Fault - Required" were displayed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the steering rack had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced an unknown recall; however the VIN was not included in the unknown recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 78,000.

I am submitting this complaint regarding a complete loss of power steering on my 2014 Ford Fusion. The issue occurred without warning and was accompanied by multiple dashboard alerts including: “Steering Loss – Stop Safely” “Service AdvanceTrac” “Hill Start Assist Not Available” The steering became extremely heavy and difficult to turn, creating a major safety concern—especially while driving at low speeds or attempting to park. I have since researched this issue and found numerous reports from other 2014 Ford Fusion owners experiencing the exact same failure. While Ford issued a Customer Satisfaction Program (15N01) covering similar issues on 2011–2013 Fusion models, no such support appears to be available for the 2014 model—even though the symptoms and system design are identical. Dealers are quoting repairs in excess of $3,500 to replace the rack-and-pinion steering system, which is believed to be the source of the failure. Given the abrupt and dangerous nature of the malfunction, I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this issue as a potential safety defect and consider whether Ford should expand coverage or issue a formal recall for affected 2014 vehicles. This is a critical steering safety issue that could easily lead to accidents or injury if it happens at higher speeds or in traffic. I urge the NHTSA to take this seriously and evaluate Ford’s handling of this problem in 2014 Fusion models. Thank you for your attention to this matter. My brake fluid line ruptured and the dealer refused repair and told me that even if they did repair it I would take 2 days and wouldn’t provide a loaner/rental so I had took to a different shop that I had to pay out of pocket for and was done in an hour.and also this is a recall for my year make and model and isn’t on my vin

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

I left my car at Ford to do the recalls, they just called me telling me they won’t fix the brake light on because in Florida it doesn’t cover the repair, something about the humidity here. It doesn’t make sense for me, they were trying to charge me around 400 bucks to fix it. They will give me my car back without fixing the problem. My car is at Matthews-Currie Ford in Venice.

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the front driver's side door latch failed to operate as intended and the door failed to close securely. The contact stated that due to the failure the vehicle was driven to work with an open door. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was determined that the front driver's door latch was inoperable. The contact was informed that the front driver's door latch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The contact stated that a week later, the rear passenger's door latch failed to latch as intended. The vehicle was scheduled to be inspected. The vehicle was not yet diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. Our 2014 Ford Fusion was recalled under NHTSA Campaign Number 15V250000, issued June 24, 2015, for an issue with internal binding and corrosion in the power steering rack which could lead to a loss of power steering assist. In 2015, Brighton Ford (Livingston County, MI) performed the recall remedy. After that service, our vehicle's VIN was removed from NHTSA's active recall list. However, on [XXX], less than 10 years later, the exact same issue occurred again—the steering wheel froze and the front wheels did not respond. The "Steering Loss" warning appeared. Thankfully, no one was hurt. The car was diagnosed and repaired at Balise Ford of Wilbraham, MA. They retrieved DTC C102D:00 which indicates high friction in the power steering gear, a symptom specifically tied to internal binding caused by water ingress, as described in the original recall. The steering rack was replaced at our expense. The repair invoice and technician comments clearly describe the same failure mode the recall was meant to prevent. This indicates the original recall remedy was ineffective in our case. WHAT IS YOUR REQUEST TO NHTSA? We respectfully request that NHTSA: Reinstate our VIN on the 15V250000 recall list, acknowledging that the original repair was inadequate and the defect recurred. Enable us to seek reimbursement from Ford for the repair and towing costs now totaling over $5,400. This situation demonstrates that a single recall remedy does not always fully resolve the safety issue. We hope NHTSA will help ensure affected owners are protected and treated fairly. STRUCTURE:BODY

Driving down the road and the trunk popped open on its own. It has happened multiple times while driving. The trunk will just open up on its own without pushing the button or anything.

On May 15, 2025 I experience a loss of power steering assist in my vehicle due to steering gear bold corrosion. There is a recall for this exact same issue, 19S26/19V632, issued on 2019-10-11, however, Ford is telling me my VIN number is not included in this recall. They are also claiming this problem was fixed as part of their recall 19R02 back in 2015. As part of the more recent recall, the remedy calls for replacing the bolts and applying a corrosion inhibitor, but they obviously did not do when fixing recall 19R02 back in 2015.

I currently have no open recalls on my vehicle however I feel as though my vehicle is apart of the the national recall involving the steer column. My vehicle jerks at high speeds randomly and I sometimes lose control. This issue has been seen by multiple mechanics and they’ve done numerous inspections but can’t find the problem. They only tell me they think it may fix the issue but none are certain. I’ve gotten two wheel alignments within a year and each time I’m recommended a wheel alignment by a different mechanic. I’ve bought several tires of this issue because the wear on my tires keeps wearing out and causing my tires to blow out. I believe it involves the national recall.

Around [XXX], I began experiencing issues with the electric power steering system in my 2014 Ford Fusion. The steering became noticeably stiff and difficult to turn, especially at low speeds. A warning message appeared on the dashboard — something like “Service Trac” or a similar alert. Despite the warning and steering difficulty, I was able to continue driving the vehicle for about a week, but it became increasingly unsafe and physically demanding to steer. The vehicle has approximately 138,000 miles and was purchased from a dealership in Michigan just a few months ago. The issue has not been inspected by a Ford dealer, but an independent service center diagnosed the problem as a failure of the electric power steering system. I was quoted $2,400 for a new part or around $1,000 for a used one, not including labor. I checked my VIN using Ford’s official site and confirmed there are no open recalls or Customer Satisfaction Programs for the steering system on this vehicle. However, this issue appears to match the symptoms described in Ford recall 19V632000, which applies to some 2014 Fusions with the same steering design. My vehicle appears to be excluded from that recall. Given the widespread nature of this defect and the serious safety risk it poses, I believe the recall should be expanded to include more affected VINs. This failure could easily result in loss of control at higher speeds and represents a hazard to both occupants and others on the road. While driving on highway, my 2014 Ford Fusion suddenly reported loss steering power and it was requiring a greater steering effort to make a small turn. I have to stop unexpectedly on highway. This incident reminded me that a day or two, I started to feel some roughness while turning in low speed locally. But it didn't affect driving.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the vehicle idled and then stalled. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact used a code reader to diagnose the vehicle. The contact filled the coolant reservoir and noticed that the coolant was leaking out. There was coolant intrusion into the cylinder, causing engine failure. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, and confirmed that there was coolant intrusion into the block head. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to Technical Service Bulletin: 23-2223. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 154,135.

Electric power steering failed, causing the car to be almost impossible to steer while driving. This is a known issue with these Ford vehicles. Car shows steering failure and stabilitrak warning-these did not come on until the failure.

The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 188,000.

The rear view mirror and side mirrors become dark after the sun sets and it becomes extremely hard and dangerous to judge vehicles behind you as you try to merge onto any road that has moving traffic.

ENGINE

I was having issues with this vehicle sputtering a bit and the antifreeze was seeming to be disappearing. There were no visible leaks. I took it to the shop to have it looked at. The engine light was on and there was a code for a cylinder 3 misfire. Th mechanic diagnosed the vehicle and, upon removing the spark plugs, noticed they were fouled with what he said was antifreeze in the cylinder (because of the white substance on the electrode end). I saw where there is a recall for the particular engine block that is in this vehicle from 2014 to 2020. When I notified Ford and the NHTSA I was told that my VIN number was not included in the recall. I am confused because I would think that the recall would be for vehicles with this particular block not specific VIN numbers. Please help! I just got this car hoping for a reliable vehicle. I am a grad student and I do not have the funds for such a big repair.

BACK OVER PREVENTION

The contact called the dealer and was informed that the vehicle was not under recall. The contact was referred to the manufacturer for assistance. FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

Car cuts off while driving. Runs for awhile and will cut off again. Check engine light came on the first time codes says the fuel pump. Change the fuel pump. 2nd time it does it codes pOO88 and POOc6 comes up and changes the fuel pressure sensor. Car starts to stall and cuts off a third time.

POWER TRAIN

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the steering wheel remained locked and could not be moved in either direction. The contact stated that after several attempts the steering wheel unlocked and operated normally. The contact stated that the failure recurred one hour after initially attempting to start the vehicle. The contact stated that the steering rack was recently replaced but the failure persisted. The engine randomly would cut off during traffic, and I would need to press gas directly after starting the vehicle to go. My vehicle was fairly new and transmission module should not be ineffective after purchasing my vehicle last July 2023 with less than 80K miles. The notification that makes the vehicle stay in the lane would malfunction randomly notifying me of failure to sensor active crash alert. I also have inability to connect to Ford vehicle app with no reason provided to cut off WiFi connectivity. Please review external IP as I can hear communication of third party observing my way of driving and communication while attempting to drive causing distraction affecting safety of myself, my location placement, and health of the car. SERVICE BRAKES

While the car was moving in reverse, the brake pedal went to the floor, and the driving had to steer off the road and hit a tree to stop the vehicle. The driver side door and front door was damaged in the collision. After the collision, the driver noticed the parking brake indicator light was on.

ENGINE

Experiencing repeated coolant leaks. Heating/coolant was repaired last winter. Failed again this winter. Car keeps needing additional coolant added. Will be taking it in on Monday to find out which parts failed this time.

ENGINE

I bought the 2014 Fusion in 2019 used. It had roughly 60 some thousand miles. I had to replace the motor at 94 thousand miles. Now at 131 thousand miles, I am faced with the same issue and need to replace the motor again after only 37 thousand miles. From what the dealer said (Copper Country Ford in Houghton Michigan) both issues have been coolant leaking into the cylinders and killing the motor. The first motor was around $4500.00 and now it is roughly the same $4500.00. So $9000.00 in 4 years!!!!! I called Fo Mo Co and they will do nothing to help. They say there is no recall and or order from NHTSA about this issue. Nor do they have any other programs to help resolve this issue or help pay for the repair. First Motor Replaced August 2020 at 94,000 Second Motor Died December 2024 at 131,000

AIR BAGS

The airbag light stays on, even though it has never been deployed. The dealership cannot determine why the airbag light stays on. My last vehicle inspection was on 07/11/2024, at Schicker Ford of St. Louis.
