2025 FORD F-450 SD Complaints and Recall Information

The 2025 FORD F-450 SD has 1 complaint and 10 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report serious transmission issues related to shifting while towing heavy loads. The single complaint describes repeated transmission failures at low mileage causing loss of power and safety risks during trailer towing.

Common Issues

  • Transmission failure. A transmission failed under 4,000 miles while pulling a large trailer, and the replacement failed again after only 200 miles. The transmission unexpectedly shifts into 10th gear causing loss of power, triggers the check engine light, and forcibly returns to 4th gear without further shifting ability, creating hazardous driving conditions.

There are 10 recalls affecting multiple systems including brakes, instrument panels, and powertrain components. These recalls involve substantial safety concerns such as sudden brake failure and shifter detachment. Repairs usually require dealer intervention and some include do not drive advisories.

Recalls

  • Brake booster pushrod spring. (NHTSA 25V401000) Affected 2,345 vehicles with missing retaining spring on the brake booster pushrod. This defect can cause sudden loss of brake function, increasing crash risk. Owners were advised not to drive affected vehicles until repairs were made. Dealers inspect and repair the brake pedal assembly free of charge.
  • Instrument panel cluster. (NHTSA 25V540000) Affects 355,656 vehicles where the Instrument Panel Cluster may fail at startup. Missing critical vehicle information increases crash risk. Dealers update the software at no charge and updates may be done over-the-air.
  • Steering column shifter weld. (NHTSA 25V163000) Affects 11,621 vehicles with improperly welded steering column shifters that can detach. If detached, the driver cannot shift into park, risking vehicle rollaway and crashes. Dealers inspect serial numbers and replace the steering column if necessary free of charge.

Owners dealing with repeated transmission repairs, brake system defects, or unresolved recall repairs should consider their rights under state lemon laws. Persistent mechanical and safety issues may qualify for legal protections or claims.

POWER TRAIN

Less than 4000 miles- first transmission failed while pulling a large trailer- ford replaced the transmission and the new transmission, only 200 miles later did the same thing when pulling a trailer, up hill. It throws the transmission into 10th gear and you loose all power, Check engine light comes on and it slams back into 4th gear. Will not shift in or out of 4th. We were almost in a head on collision pulling a trailer because it did it while passing a semi and we had no power. Two transmissions this low of mileage seems like it must be a batch of faulty transmissions that need to be recalled asap.
