Reported a burning oil/chemical smell to the Ford service center early August and was told nothing was wrong. 2 days ago same smell appeared accompanied with large amount of smoke while driving. Immediately stopped and found flames behind drivers side front tire in engine. Put out the fire ourselves with fire extinguisher and was towed to nearest Ford service center. Ford states was a mechanical issue with the front differential causing an oil to leak, cause metal shavings, and ignite in flames.

They have had my truck since June 2025. I am making payments on the truck and can't drive it. ENGINE

On 7/18/25 I picked up F-150 from being repaired (failed Belt Drive Generator/Starter Tensioner). About 3 hours later I was driving up a long grade at about 5,000 feet when I stopped to check on my cargo (a bicycle). At this point I noticed the cooling fans were running increasingly fast, much faster then they had ever run before. I checked the digital temperature gauge and it showed a normal temperature. I opened the hood and saw there was no coolant in the overflow bottle. I assumed the truck was just a bit low on coolant and I had some (5 liters) water with me so I added that to the overflow bottle. Very little water was visible in the overflow bottle. I replaced the cap, turned off the A/C and immediately headed back to the dealer. At no point did the check engine light come on. At no point did the temperature gauge move from the "normal" area. At no point did any warning message of any time appear on the driver display - unless it occured when I was refilling the overflow bottle. The engine was not operating normally however, the gas engine stayed on at all times and did not cycle on and off as it normally would do (truck is a hybrid). When I arrived at the dealer they attempted to fill the coolant system and said it was completely empty - no sign of the 5 liters of water I put into the system. The cause of the leak was identified as the EGHR system, specifically the plastic coolant inlet port. This failure is discussed in Ford Customer Satisfaction Program 24N04 - attached. This failure should not have occured. But when it DID occur the vehcile should have warned the driver that a serious overheating event was occuring. No MIL was set. No driver warners were made and the temperature gauge remained in the normal range at all times. The ONLY way I because aware of the problem was by noticing the increasing speed of the cooling fans. This could lead to fire, or unexpected engine failure or burns from overheated radiator.

I was parking my car and pressed down on the brake. The car continued to roll forward so I pressed down farther. The car kept rolling forward. I took my foot off the brake and then pressed down hard and came to a stop. The brake fluid is clean and at max levels. The brake pads are relatively new. No visible signs of damage or leaking.

STRUCTURE:BODY

Bought used at 10k miles less than a year ago, has a severe leak from the passenger side windshield/cowl area that pours down the body seam saturates the floor, wire channel, and bcm area. This is a safety issue as you can smell a burnt/wet wire smell and the incoming water saturates critical wiring, and is nearby airbag wiring. Vehicle in question has only been owned for a year (of 3 year warranty) but any warranty repairs are being refused as it is 4100 miles outside of comprehensive warranty. However, this is not believed to be due to a component that failed due to mileage but rather a manufacturing defect/quality control in the body adhesive not being applied properly near the firewall/cowl/inner fender frame joint.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

On [XXX] at [XXX] I dropped my wife and 2 children off at the Funland Arcade in Deep Creek, Maryland. The parking lot was full from the holiday weekend and I was planning on taking the Lightning to a nearby charger while the family gamed so I double parked perpendicular to the arcade entrance, put the hazards on, and let them out. After the 3 of them got out, I placed the Lightning in reverse to back up 5-10 feet so that I could exit the parking lot through the same way I came in. Once I had enough space from reversing so I could make the turn to exit I placed the Lighting in drive. The moment the Lightning switched to drive it accelerated at a very high speed as if I was flooring the gas pedal, which I was not. The lightning was in one-petal mode which I always use unless I’m on a highway. I immediately began pumping the brakes but the truck would not stop, I probably slammed on the brake petal 4-5 times to no avail. I even tried shifting the truck back into park but it would not shift out of drive. I was able to luckily steer the truck into a hillside approximately 150 feet away. The truck ran over numerous small trees and shrubs before crashing to a stop approximately 16 feet up the hill. Shortly after the shock wore off, I slowly reversed the truck down the hill, exited the truck, and informed dozens of onlookers who came out of the arcade to see what the noise in the parking lot was from, that the truck just took off on its own but that I was fine. I called 911 and the police came. Luckily no people or vehicles were between the arcade entrance and the hillside or the outcome would have been significantly worse. This crash was witnessed first hand by wife and 2 children. I have grave safety concerns about this truck now and will not put my family or self back in it until Ford fixes this problem. I am making this complaint in case this information can help prevent future crashes of this vehicle. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

One morning, my 2023 Ford F150 Lightning was completely inoperable. I had it towed to a dealer. From my understanding, it is a wire that runs from the front of the truck to the rear of the truck, and is in the channel about the drive train malfunctioned which seems very strange to me. Got a bunch of codes off the computer. Found some kind of module showing 0-2 volts and when wiggled, it went to zero and stayed. Circuuits CBB95 PINS 11 and 12 and ABB05 PIN 33 at C407 all had zero volts. He consulted Ford's self help and found a Ford contact who'd fixed similar issue. After researching, all was connected back up, he back probed the circuits, and finally found SBB05 grey/red Pin 5 had no current. Ford advised overlaying wire from 3471C to C407 over rear drive unit and secure to harness with zip ties. This successfully cleared all codes and truck worked. This could have been really bad if it happened during the middle of winter when driving putting me and my occupants in danger. I'm not sure what the dealer did with the part, but they replaced the wire and connectors. I had no idication there was any problem until the vehicle became completely inoperable. Ford did not cover this under warranty since i was out of the bumper to bumper warrantee mileage.

POWER TRAIN

The vehicle has had its automatic transmission replaced twice by a ford dealership within a one year period due to mechanical failures within the transmission. The dealership confirmed the same issue both times. Each transmission replacement was new from the manufacturer. The transmission failures caused hard shifting and stalling, which has posed a safety risk. An indicator that the transmission was failing had been the presence of a loud banging/clunking noise when shifting gears.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

While driving my 2023 Ford F-150 XLT through a parking lot at low speed, I attempted to stop and shift into reverse to avoid a tight turn between parked vehicles. With my foot firmly on the brake, I shifted into reverse—though the gear shift was abnormally resistant. The system indicated the vehicle was in reverse. Despite keeping my foot on the brake, the truck suddenly and forcefully accelerated on its own, overriding my braking input. It collided with two parked vehicles before I was able to bring it to a stop by turning off the engine. The vehicle continued to accelerate even while I applied firm pressure to the brake pedal, which depressed all the way to the floor and failed to stop the truck. At no point did I press the gas pedal. After impact, the gear shift remained in reverse with a blinking red light. No airbags deployed. This was an extremely dangerous situation that could have seriously injured someone had they been standing nearby. Additionally, for some time leading up to the incident, I noticed increasing difficulty shifting gears even with the brake fully depressed. At times when in park the light for other gear modes would turn on.  Indicating the vehicle may be in another mode other than park.  The brake pedal has also felt inconsistent, often requiring unusually deep and forceful pressure to stop, whether on highways, city streets, or in parking lots. This appears to be a critical failure of both the braking and transmission systems. I am extremely concerned for my safety and that of other Ford drivers. I am requesting a formal investigation into this matter

LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST

Thank you for a chance to file this information. The cruise speed control and lane keeping systems are not working consistently and properly. They fail every week when tested. So far - the dealer-warranty fixes have not been the remedy needed. The cruise control system on steeper slopes doesn't provide braking to stay at the set speed - and at times it doesn't provide any braking resistance - so the vehicle takes off full speed with gravity. The lane keeping system doesn't provide consistent drivers' assistance to prevent departing the lane - even with new/freshly painted center-lanes/side of the road lanes.

A considerable amount of water intrusion has occurred in the rear light bar which is for braking and reverse lights. After taking it to my dealer, Ford has stated that unless water is "pooled" inside the unit this is normal, and that some condensation inside the assembly is "normal". I don't believe a sealed unit is supposed to have any water inside it, and this is the exact issue that lead to the recall campaign 23S30, which was performed on this truck in probably late 2023. I am concerned that this water will lead to malfunction as is happening to many other owners on the discussion forums, and I won't know.

SERVICE BRAKES

My 2023 F150 has been having issues with the key fob connecting to the vehicle and responding to commands (unlock/lock, remote start etc). On the date of this incident the truck was not responding to the remote start key fob function. While standing outside the vehicle from a distance of about 10 feet I attempted the remote start function with no success approximately five times. On the last attempt I heard the audible sound of the parking brake releasing (moving from the “brake on” mode to the “brake off” mode). Once inside the vehicle I confirmed that the parking brake had been released. I was ultimately able to get the truck started and driving in a normal condition. The parking brake has not malfunctioned since. The key fob / truck connection continues to malfunction to various degrees. Sometimes no response, sometimes no remote start, sometimes the truck will be running and display a dashboard message indicating the key fob is not present leaving the truck running but “locked” in park. During this parking brake incident the vehicle was parked and locked with the parking brake set as normal (on or about May 10 , 2025). It was on level ground in a parking lot. No other vehicles were parked near mine. It was morning time, the truck was “cold” after being parked all night. No other unusual condition were noted. Weather conditions were dry and mild (50 degree temperatures). The remote connection issues have been going on about 6-8 months. I have replaced the battery in the remote 2x with no improvement. The vehicle has been inspected by the selling dealer once for the fob with no results (April 17, 2025). I have an appointment for the latest issues on June 2 2025. It is my belief that the random release of the parking brake system poses a risk for myself and other members of the public that may be injured by a sudden “roll away” of this vehicle by parking brake failure. I am in possession of the vehicle and it’s available for inspection. .

Per Safety Recall 23S65-S1 - NHTS 23V896 Ford notified the government in 2023 regarding the rear axle hub bolts breaking on F-150's equipped with the max tow package. My 2023 Ford F-150 is configured with the max tow package and has the same exact axle and hub bolt known to failure included in the recall I mentioned. The new replacement axle has a nut on the end to hold everything together so it's very easy to tell the difference. This failure is part(s) specific and my truck currently has the same axle and axle bolt included in this recall that is known to have a failure. I have attached a picture. The problem, my VIN is not part of the recall selection and this is a present safety concern for me and others. I have not had a failure yet but I have not towed with my truck because of this safety concern of a potential failure. Up until recently, Ford's fix for broken axle hub bolts were to replace with the same parts. Ford finally had a replacement axle (new style with a axle hub nut instead of a bolt) manufactured to eliminate this issue. It is a completely different design and uses a nut on the end to hold everything together. This recall needs to expand to include all F-150's that have the same axle & axle hub bolt.

Available for inspection. The "brain" of the truck is in the stereo system. the time on the call varies, but, the call will drop the Bluetooth or wired connection with the truck, the radio will reset, and go to a broadcast radio station, from which it will stay for about 5-30 seconds while resetting, and then the call will recommence on the in-house system again. Neither party knows until I start hollering that the call has been dropped. I have checked with Apple, and there are no issues with it, and all updates have been completed. During the call with the tech people at Ford, the tech said it is a known problem. The truck has been in the shop on several occasions at Ford Villages and in Ocala, Florida, starting in February 2025. On 3/14/25, eight modules had to be updated & I was assured that it would fix the issue. After is was dropped it off, it happened again. I took it back on 3/21, and this time they said they could not duplicate the problem. Furthermore, the issue would need to be fixed, most likely by an over-the-air update. On the way home, I called my brother, and it happened not more than ten minutes out of the shop! 3/25/2025, I contacted Ford again through their customer service line and told them I wanted to start the Lemon Law buyback process. A few days later, I got a call back – denied. I am going through the lemon law process now. They offered a $4k buyback, which I soundly rejected as an insult. REGARDLESS, this truck is unsafe to operate due to the distractions that are created by the unreliability of the CarPlay system. I have ended up in a ditch, almost ran off the road by other drivers and various other close calls, all because I have had to adjust the phone to where it would work while I am driving. Most likely the CarPlay (Android-based) incompatibility with the Apple software and users are made to suffer for it Whatever it is, it must be immediately resolved. Consumers do not need to be caught in between the petty games. Still or moving.

On three separate occasions when I open my door, I get a “brake fault service soon” notification. I’ve done research and forums say this was a recall in the past. I never owned the vehicle when the original recall came out so I’m not too sure what happened.

My 2023 Ford F-150 3.5 eco boost with 35,000 approx. started having issues about 2000 miles ago with the transmission. It tends to slip gears between 3-4, 4-5 and 9-10. Sometimes it isn’t bad but other times it feels like the transmission is going to drop out from the truck. I also have an issue where the truck shifts into neutral while driving but still displays it is in drive. This doesn’t happen often but 4 times now in 2,000 miles. When this occurs I can’t put the truck back into drive and go, I have to stop, turn off the engine and wait from 5-10 minutes before I can drive away. When these issues occur there is no check engine light and the dealer said there are no snapshots recorded.

STRUCTURE:BODY

To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to formally report a recurring water intrusion issue with my vehicle, which poses a potential safety risk. Whenever it rains and the vehicle is parked outside, water consistently leaks into the passenger-side interior. While driving, especially during acceleration or braking, I can hear the sound of water moving within the passenger side area. Upon inspection, I have found water pooling in the front passenger footwell, where multiple electrical wires are located. Additionally, there is an electrical control box situated beneath the passenger seat that may also be exposed to moisture. I also discovered water leaking behind the rear seat area. This section contains two air vents, which may be contributing to the issue. The water intrusion raises serious concerns about electrical system integrity, especially given the presence of wiring and components in affected areas. Although my vehicle has not yet experienced electrical failure while driving, I am aware of multiple reports from other owners who have encountered similar leaks that led to sudden engine shutdowns, including while driving in traffic — a serious safety hazard. I brought my vehicle to the service center for evaluation, but as of now, I have not received any resolution or updates regarding a fix. I have several videos of the situation as well. Given the potential risk to both vehicle occupants and others on the road, I respectfully request that the NHTSA investigate this matter further to determine whether a recall or other safety action is warranted. Thank you for your attention to this serious issue.

The engine and/or power train malfunctioned, rendering the vehicle difficult to bring to a stop. The longer than normal stopping distance carried the vehicle past the stop line, crosswalk and into the intersection of a crossing roadway. Anyone in the crosswalk or vehicle in the crossing roadway in the path of the vehicle would have been impacted. By placing the gear selector into Neutral, the vehicle was finally brought to stop. It is at this point I noted the tachometer read approximately 3500 RPM then slowly reduced to normal idle RPM. These aforementioned symptoms have not recurred since. The incident was brought to the attention of the manufacturer who referred me to the service department (local Ford dealer) who, in turn, did not identify any malfunctions. Service instructed me to monitor the operation of the vehicle and advise them of any problems. No malfunction codes/warnings/lights were present immediately before or after the incident.

EXTERIOR LIGHTING

4 or more different trailers some new some old, have been towed by our truck. With all of them the truck gave a warning that the right turn signal was out, when hooked up to a GMC Sierra the taillights all worked fine. When this happens the brake lights go out and the blinker blinks quickly. While using a trailer with its own braking system, the truck gave a fault that the trailer battery was not charging and none of the lights worked, causing a huge safety concern when coming to a stop. After turning the truck off and back on it worked fine. We took it to a Ford dealer and was first told it was the trailer, they tried it on 3 trailers the tech had and the blinker issue happened on 2 of the 3. Then they told us our trailers were too old. We refused to take it back without further diagnostics. They performed a BCM update. The next time we hooked up a trailer was this past weekend and the same issue occurred. We are hesitant to bring it back in as we need the vehicle and last time the dealership had it for over 15 days. I Due to the nature of the issues, the problem either lies in the connector, wiring, trailer control module or worse case scenario the body control module. Ironically My husbands job recently bought a ford F550, an employee driving it while pulling a trailer said it did the same thing but with the left blinker. They hooked that trailer to a Chevy truck and all worked fine. This is clearly an issue with Fords Trailering system. What steps should we take to get this fixed. We haul a lot of trailers. The truck has just over 5000 miles on it.

LANE DEPARTURE: ASSIST

I’m very concerned about the actual malfunction of my entire steering rack & pinion assembly at just over 6,000 miles. The failure on my 2023 F150 (bought as NEW in Sept. 2024 from dealer w/ 1200 miles) occurred at more than 80 miles per hour when I had punched it to pass another vehicle. The steering became very wonky and was 'soft-locking' in stuttering positions – about 2 degrees apart in moving the steering wheel. It was very touch and go coming into town – even back at 60 mph. I was still hitting the hard spots and making all sorts of racket in full turns as we pulling into a parking lot to check it out. At that time, the only thing I could relate it to as far as how it felt was that the steering assist/ lane keeping assist was wanting to run the show. But I don’t use the feature and have only tried it a couple times since I got the truck – specifically to see how it felt. There was NO MESSAGE on the instruments. Anyway, my point is: this seems to be a serious safety issue, and I would think Ford would want to figure out what happened. The Ford dealership service manager kind of blew it off like, ‘well, stuff happens’. That’s all good and I’m not faulting him – they did a great job of repair, and the truck now drives like a new truck (new steering assembly shipped overnight from Memphis, TN to Livingston, TX) – steering is actually better that the first day I had it. It was always a little quirky in its ‘feel’ so I just thought it was kind of what it would be. Didn’t feel perfect but not enough to complain or even say anything about. I just figured Ford had done something that just gave the steering a little bit different feel. I’d really like to find out what the Ford engineers figure out and HOW could this have been a one-off thing? This seems like a very serious, potential safety issue. The dealership has not replied to 2 emails from their apparently automated 'are you happy with your service' inquiry.

Right rear taillight lens has water ingression. The dealer states that they cannot replace the lens under warranty because of a technical issue bulletin issued by Ford Moter company that states that condensation is normal and that it should dissipate after a short period of time. Well this has not gone away. And after some time, it will start corroding the electrical connections for the lights and cause them to stop working. The dealer is telling me that it would no be covered under warranty until there is at least a quarter of water in the bottom of the lens. By that time the electrical connections for the lights will be damaged

I was driving down the road at approximately 35mph. The vehicle began to sputter and then started loosing power. I was only able to drive approximately another 150 meters and get over to the shoulder of the road. Once stopped the vehicle stopped running all together. The vehicle did have power but only to the electronics. The engine had shut down. I shut off the vehicle all the way and then restarted. It ran fine after that. This was on 01/29/2025. The vehicle had a previous instance where it did not start. It would crank the motor for approximately 6 to 8 seconds, the engine would fire and then shut off after about 1-2 seconds. The fuse box and wiring harness have both been replaced and the vehicle still seems to be having issues that could cause major damage and or injuries/death to the occupants.

My F-150 has been a nightmare since I purchased it in April. Ford dealers are unwilling to even look into my complaints. It has now got to the point where I cant drive the vehicle on the interstate because it is too unstable at those speeds. As in the steering wheel moves one way and the truck steers another. The truck is on its 3rd set of tires with only 30k miles on the odometer, but Ford always comes up with some excuse to blame it on me. That is not the case though, I've had 3 4X4 F-150s prior to this one, so I know what to expect from and how to drive a truck.

I started receiving notifications that the battery on my 2023 Ford F150 was in battery save mode due to low battery. I called my dealership and set up an appointment. I took in my vehicle and they charged the battery but told us that Ford has an issue with these batteries not holding a charge. He recommended we just run our truck in the driveway for 30 min when this happens. The charge lasted 3 day's, I drive this vehicle multiple times daily and we have taken many trips in it. I have never had a vehicle that the battery will not charge properly and then to be told they know this is an issue but aren't doing anything to fix it is unacceptable.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE: WARNINGS

While traveling North on [XXX] in N. Texas, congested roadway at the time, had to come to an abrupt stop because a vehicle in front of me suddenly hit their brakes. The forward collision system worked as it should, the icon popped up on the display and the vehicle started braking. One morning as I prepare to pull out of my driveway, vehicle facing North, the forward collision icon is on the dash with a diagonal line through it. I wasn't sure what that meant so I looked it up and it meant that something was blocking the sensor. Happened to be dirt from recent dust storm with rain so there was a spot that the windshield wipers cant reach therefore the sensor was blocked. Cleaned it off no more icon on the dash. Traveling West on [XXX] in West Texas, the icon appears on the dash once again with the diagonal line through it. The closest vehicle to me was around 3 quarters of a mile in front of me so there was no danger of a front collision. I noticed that as I passed under an overpass the icon disappeared but as soon a I exited the overpass the icon reappeared. Once the sun reached a certain point in the horizon when setting, the icon went off for good. This has also happened when driving in town and I am heading home form work. traveling West into the setting sun. Without a doubt if the sun is in a certain point on the horizon when setting, it will block or blind that sensor however you wish to describe it, and that safety feature will be temporarily inoperable until the sun sets lower. I am writing to request assistance regarding the Customer Satisfaction Bulletin published by NHTSA, titled "Heated Steering Wheel Performance Upgrade 22G06": [XXX] I purchased a 2023 Ford F-150 Tremor from Ryan Ford in Sealy, TX, as a custom order with a build date of December 2022. While I originally paid for a heated steering wheel as part of the vehicle's configuration, this feature was removed during production due to supply chain issues. The omission is noted on my vehicle’s window sticker. Upon reviewing the 22G06 bulletin, I understand that certain F-150 vehicles, including those built in December 2022 at the Dearborn plant, qualify for the upgrade. Based on this information, my truck appears to meet the eligibility criteria outlined in the bulletin. I initially contacted my sales agent at Ryan Ford to arrange the upgrade but was informed that my truck is not eligible and was directed to contact Ford Customer Service. When I reached out to Ford Customer Service, I was advised to contact NHTSA, as Ford is unable to consider adding my truck to the VIN list for eligibility without NHTSA approval. This back-and-forth has left me without a clear resolution or pathway forward. Could you please clarify why my vehicle is deemed ineligible for this upgrade, despite seemingly meeting all the stated criteria? Furthermore, I would appreciate your guidance on how I can ensure my dealership completes this upgrade, considering my vehicle's apparent qualifications. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your response. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
