SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:UPPER BALL JOINT

Tenneco Automotive (DRiV) is recalling certain MOOG K500359 ball joints, for aftermarket installation on 2015-2018 Ford F-150 trucks. The ball joint may have a misaligned dust boot and may be missing alignment hole and installation warning tag, which may lead to improper alignment of the ball joint.

Risk: An incorrectly installed ball joint may cause the ball joint stud to break, which can compromise front wheel control, increasing the risk of a crash.

SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:POWER ASSIST

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2014-2017 F-150 pickup trucks equipped with 3.5L Ecoboost engines. The brake master cylinder may leak brake fluid into the brake booster.

Risk: A loss of brake fluid may result in a change in brake pedal travel and feel, increased pedal effort and reduced front brake function, possibly requiring greater effort and distance to stop the vehicle. These conditions can increase the risk of a crash.

EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2016 F-150 pick-up trucks equipped with 3.5L GTDI engines and block immersion heaters that were potentially relocated from their originally installed location. The incorrect location could put the heater too close to hot engine components, possibly resulting in a damaged cable.

Risk: A damaged cable could cause a resistive short, increasing the risk of overheated or melted wiring, increasing the risk of a fire.

EQUIPMENT:ELECTRICAL

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2019 Ford F-150 and 2017-2019 Ford F-250 Super Duty, F-350 Super Duty, F-450 Super Duty, and F-550 Super Duty pick-up trucks equipped with an engine block heater and previously remedied under recall 18V894. During the previous repair, the block heater cable's splice connector may have been damaged.

Risk: A damaged cable could cause a resistive short, increasing the risk of overheated or melted wiring, increasing the risk of a fire.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2019 Ford F-150 and 2017-2019 Ford F-250 Super Duty, F-350 Super Duty, F-450 Super Duty, and F-550 Super Duty pick-up trucks equipped with an engine block heater. Water and contaminants may get into the block heater cable's splice connector causing corrosion and damage.

Risk: When the heater is plugged in, prolonged corrosion could cause a resistive short, increasing the risk of overheated or melted wiring which can increase the risk of a fire.

STRUCTURE:BODY:ROOF AND PILLARS

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2018 Ford F-150 Regular Cab and SuperCrew Cab vehicles. If a front seat belt pretensioner deploys as the result of a crash, the sparks may ignite materials such as carpeting or insulation within the B-pillar area.

Risk: A vehicle fire could result if materials ignite inside the vehicle.

LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES:DOORS:LATCH

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2017 Ford F-150, and 2017 F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 Super Duty trucks. The doors on these vehicles may have a bent or kinked actuation cable or the door latches may freeze after water gets into the latch. Either condition can result in the doors opening while driving although they appear to be closed.

Risk: A door that opens while driving can increase the risk of injury.

SEAT BELTS:REAR/OTHER

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2017 F-150, and 2017 F-250 and F-350 trucks equipped with a crew cab. The left rear inflatable seat belt buckle assembly may be inadequately attached to its mounting bracket. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 210, "Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages."

Risk: If the left rear inflatable seat belt buckle separates from it's mounting bracket, the seat occupant may not be adequately restrained, increasing their risk of injury.

SEATS

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2016 F-150 and Explorer vehicles. Loose power seat adjuster pivot bolts may cause the front seat cushions to detach and not properly restrain the seat occupant in the event of a crash.

Risk: In the event of a crash, a seat occupant that is not properly restrained has an increased risk of injury.

STRUCTURE:BODY:DOOR

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2015-2017 F-150, and 2017 F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 vehicles originally produced with black or body colored exterior door handles that may have been subsequently equipped with a chrome exterior door handle cover accessory kit purchased from a Ford dealer. These accessory door handle covers may cause the doors to unlatch in a side impact collision. As such, these vehicles may fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 206, "Door Locks and Door Retention Components."

Risk: If the doors unlatch and open in a side impact collision, the occupants have an increased risk of injury.

AIR BAGS:SENSOR:OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2016 F-150 trucks manufactured April 27, 2015, to November 22, 2015, and equipped with Multi-Contour Seats (MCS). The front passenger seat Occupant Classification System (OCS) that calibrates the air bag deployment level may incorrectly classify an adult as a child when the seat massage feature is activated.

Risk: If an adult is incorrectly classified as a child, the passenger frontal air bag will not deploy during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

POWER TRAIN

Driving certain freeway speeds will cause the f150 to downshift and lose speed could cause a serious collision on major roadways. This is happening all the time now.

The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission independently downshifted. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle unexpectedly decelerated before accelerating. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and was diagnosed with transmission failure. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be rebuilt or replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact was advised to contact the dealer. My truck sped up out of control, I almost lost control of the vehicle and crashed. Luckily I was able to gain control and get it into neutral and then into park. My trucks rpms raced so high it sounded as if the engine was going to explode. I put it into park and the rpms lowered to a normal level. While this was all happening a wrench icon popped up on my dash. Once the wrench icon came on I noticed my dash wasn’t telling me what gear I was in or if I was in park, neutral or drive. I pulled into the closest parking lot. I put it in park and every time I gave the truck gas the throttle would continue to accelerate on its own and would rev extremely high on its own. I also noticed as I was sitting it the parking lot at idol there is now a thumping sound/ jolt when selecting what gear to go into. I don’t know if this was caused from having to slam the car into neutral and then into park so I wouldn’t crash when the throttle accelerated. I shut my truck off and it wouldn’t turn back on. All of my electronics work but it doesn’t even want to try to start or turn over. I had to tow my truck home and it is now sitting in front of my house unusable. I have videos I can provide.

Dear Sir/Madam, I own a 2016 Ford F-150. Over the past few months the vehicle will suddenly hesitate and downshift while driving and the mechanics symbol will appear on the dashboard. This happened to me a few times. At the end of June I had two different mechanics look at the vehicle and both kept the truck for a couple of days and drove it around and neither one could see a problem. I drove the vehicle from Rhode Island to Pennsylvania and this happened 4 times during the trip driving on the highway!!!! It then happened again (with a witness in the vehicle) while driving. I could have been killed driving 70 mph on the highway during these times that the vehicle hesitated and downshifted. I researched possible recalls that I might have missed and learned of the investigation into by NHTSA by other consumers and I contacted Ford. When I spoke to Ford and filed my complaint I let them know I knew about the investigation by NHTSA and told them I could have been killed. It has been two weeks and I have yet to hear from them. Transmission shift radically and causing car to jump like running over something. When hauling transmission might down shift from 5th speed to 2nd speed at 50-60 miles per hour.

The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, all four doors unexpectedly opened. The vehicle was initially taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the four-door latches were faulty and needed to be repaired or replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred approximately four years later while making a right turn, and the driver's door unexpectedly opened. The contact stated that wearing the seat belt had potentially prevented him from falling out of the vehicle. The contact had to hold the door closed while driving until safely arriving at the residence. The vehicle was then taken to the same dealer, where it was determined that the driver’s door latch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. My wife and toddler were returning from dropping off our older child at school this morning. As she approached an intersection, the rear wheels suddenly seized, causing an abrupt stop. A transmission failure code flashed on the digital gauges. The engine shut off, but the electronics remained on, as if in accessory mode. She was able to turn the truck off and then back on, which seemed to reset the system and allow her to drive forward.

I had the coolant fluid tested for exhaust gasses. Exhaust gasses were detected and it was determined I had a blown head gasket. After taking to mechanics, other owners all over the internet, and Ford dealership employees at the dealership I purchased ny truck from. Everyone said the same thing. The 2.7L EcoBoost motor is prone to blowing a head gasket. My own father who has the same truck, just a younger older than mine decided to just replace the whole motor because he too blew a head gasket. This head gasket issue is pervasive and I would not be surprised if over 20% of this generation of motor has the same problem. I

The undercarriage has been sprayed off regularly when driven in the winter.

POWER TRAIN

Truck went into an uncontrolled downshift from fifth to first gear while in traffic, causing a large speed reduction in traffic. Risk of being rearended by driver behind me. Dealer confirmed this issue was due to connections in transmission shorting out due to exposed connections and particles in transmission fluid (same as 2014 F-150 recall). There was no warning that this was going to occur. Wrench light came on when it occurred. Part is not available for inspection.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

2016 F150, 6R80 Transmission - threw codes P0720 and P0722, dealer indicated known issue under recall 24S37, but my VIN is not included, but should be. Unexpected downshift to first gear, check engine light, truck enters "limp" mode, only allowing 3rd and 5th gear - real safety issue - especially if Ford knows it has a fix - although parts are in short supply (molded lead frame)

ENGINE

Engine shut off on me in the middle of the road. Found out the water pump sheared off causing the timing chain to not function properly, bending valves and requiring a engine rebuild

POWER TRAIN

Lead frame issue where truck downshifted hard as I was driving then was stuck in a higher gear. Had to have it towed into Ford for repair. Cost about $2,000

Transmission has a shutter issue with torch converter. Shops are indicating this is a known issue and some models have had previous recalls for our year but our VIN is not showing a recall for that. It does have a power train control module recall # 24E03

ENGINE

My manifolds have warped on my truck and is a common issue with Ford trucks. They use 8 bolts instead of 11 and know this will eventually cause the manifolds to warp. The dealership wants $5200 to fix it. Its not affordable so will have to drive it. Unfortunately exhaust can get into the passenger area and is dangerous. This has to be covered as Ford knew it would happen then gouge the consumer and could harm them. Thank you! The vehicle was jerking while depressing the accelerator pedal, and the contact was forced to shift into neutral(N) before shifting back to drive(D) to resume normal driving. Odometer Fraud. The contact purchased a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact discovered a mileage discrepancy after purchasing the vehicle. The vehicle was a private sale. At the time of purchase, the vehicle mileage was 136,900. The contact later discovered that the mileage on the title was 189,000.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

When you turn ignition off, pull key out of ignition and open driver door. The doors unlock but the tailgate will not. It won't even make the sound of it unlocking or locking. Its stuck shut, handle won't do anything.

POWER TRAIN

Our truck has been switching gears while driving. It jumps from 2nd to 5th or 1st while in use. There are a few times we end up “stuck” making a turn at an intersection with vehicles coming towards us, almost hitting us due to the truck not switching gears fast enough. It has been happening frequently with the last incident today.

Transmission abruptly downshifts without warning. Cluster displays wrench icon and see manual but does not store a code in OBDII. Truck runs in “limp mode” restarting seems to clear the issue. Ford states no code no problem. I have video of issue happening.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM

The contact owns a 2016 Ford F-150. The contact while driving at undisclosed speeds, or while starting the vehicle, there was an abnormally high-pitched sound coming from the exhaust manifold. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the exhaust manifold bolts were damaged and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 120,000.

POWER TRAIN

Transmission is no longer working correctly. Downshifting to low gear for no reason and refusing to shift to higher gear with rpms reaching 8000rpm at 35 mph. Onky 73k miles on vehicle . No check engine light. No error codes using reader.

Vehicle has random sudden and violent downshifts to first gear when at highway speeds. Severe risk of accident and/or engine damage.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

My F150 engine stalls while driving when I am at a1/4 tank or less in hot or cold weather in stop and go traffic, at a stop sign or red traffic signal. I am able to restart the engine after placing the transmission in neutral or park. I have reported this issue to my ford dealer, but they say there is nothing wrong with the vehicle. There is currently a recall (#25S75) for this issue in later model F150s, but my vehicle is not covered. The Ford hotline instructed me to report this issue to NHTSA.

POWER TRAIN

While driving on the Interstate, my transmission suddenly had a dramatic downshift. A few miles later as I was exiting the freeway, it went into a limp mode for about 3 miles. I barely could pull into a fast food parking lot immediately off the exit ramp. After letting the truck sit for about an hour, I restarted the truck. It seemed to drive fairly well and drove it to a parts store to see if any OBD code was apparent. It read PO722-00 (Output Shaft Speed Sensor Circuit No Signal). I had about 57 miles to home (this is Sunday 7/27/2025 at about 5pm). Made it home but am seriously concerned about allowing my wife driving this!

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

I was going to pass someone and as I was speeding up the check engine light came on. I pulled over and there was nothing wrong with the truck. Months later there was a warning that came up on the dash it said something about shifting and i was to park the truck. I took it to a transmission shop, come to find out that the shifting sensor had went out. They cleared the check engine light and it came back on. Ran a diagnostic on it and it said there was like 8 different things that needs to be fixed. There was Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold, Air Distribution Damper Position Sensor- Circuit Short to Ground or Open, Bank 1 Air/Fuel Ration Imbalance, Sensor Circuit, Internal Control Module Torque Performance, Heater Control Circuit (Bank 1, Sensor 1). When I am at a certain speed the truck will vibrate (feels like you have ran over the rubber strips on the road), if I accelerate and the passing gear kicks in there is a strange sound coming from under the truck. I dontfell like this should be put off on me. I have had alot of people saying that they are having the same issues I am having.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The truck suddenly gave all kinds of warning signals like horn honking, side lights flashing, auto door locking/unlocking, etc. I had to disable the horn for not bothering the neighbors. I drove to Ford dealership without horn but with the fear from the BCM signals. The dealer service spent 5 days and eventually found the problem. It is "water intrusion causing BCM malfunctioning". Further diagnosis is that water came from heater box/AC condensation. The truck is 8.5 years old and has only 50K miles. How could it happen? The service manager and all mechanics never saw this happened with a Ford F150. But after searching on internet and consulting ChatGPT, we were told this is a known issue for Ford F150 made in 2015 to 2017 although there is no recall for it. While driving at 65 mph the Orange drive selection indicator on the dashboard started flashing. In addition, the column listing the gears on the right side of the screen started flashing as well. Now there is no orange drive selection indicator light and no column listing the gears on the right side of the screen. I attempted to use the tiptronic shifting switch on the shifter and I was getting no response. When I brought the vehicle to a halt while still in drive, the vehicle moved into neutral. I had to shift the vehicle into "M" manual mode to get it to shift into a driving gear. The vehicle still drives and is able to automatically travel through the gears however I have no way of visually confirming if I'm in drive. I ran a diagnostic scan and the results were as followed "P0705 transmission range sensor a circuit (PRLDN input). When I place my vehicle in park the radiator fans turn on high until I shut the vehicle off. I'm at a gas station now, I can turn the truck on however I am unable to turn the engine back on. I can hear a clicking noise coming from the center console next to the shifter. After 2 min of this noise the orange drive selection light has returned on and is illuminating "P". I can turn the truck engine on, however when I shift I to "D" drive the orange selector light turns off. When I shift back to "P" park, the orange light returns. I shift to "D" press the accelerator and the engine RPM increases. However the vehicle does not move forward. When I shift to "M" the vehicle is in gear and begins to move forward. I still have no control over tiptronic shifting while in "M".

VISIBILITY/WIPER

Driving through thunderstorms the rear sliding window popped out from the bracket. The top bracket came loose allowing the window to pop out. This top bracket was fastened with 4 strips of 2 sided tape. Had to pull over and tape the window & bracket.

ENGINE

Exhaust manifold bolts constantly warping & also causes fumes to get inside of cabin of vehicle.

BACK OVER PREVENTION: REARVIEW SYSTEM BRAKING

Transmission downshifting unexpectedly 6 to 1 during hwy speed. Also unexpected hard down shifts. No codes or warnings before or after events. Started having issue June 12th 2025. Does it once or twice daily since it began. Started case with Ford Motor Company. Talked with mechanic and tells me the 6spd transmission in ford have that issue. Truck Shifts from 6th gear to 1st gear at freeway speeds. This only takes place for a matter of seconds and then shift back to 6th gear. During down shift all throttle response is gone and then regains throttle as if it was resetting. My fear is its going to happen and lock up the truck causing a major accident. I recently had the trucks transmission serviced (Fluid, filter and flushed) thinking old fluid may be causing the issue. But sadly the problem is still there with nothing looking broke or out of place according to FORD. Then today i find my trucks year is apart of a Investigation opened into nearly 1.3 million Ford F-150 trucks over unexpected gear shifts [XXX] . This is a major safe concern not to mention very expensive repair,. Driving on freeway at 70mph and suddenly the truck shifted to a lower gear causing my RPM's to shoot to over 6,000rpm. I was able to get to the shoulder and turn off vehicle. I waited about 10 minutes and restarted the truck. When it happened the wrench light came on and then went away before I got to the shoulder. I checked for stored codes and it was showing PO720 Out put speed sensor (lead frame in transmission).

SERVICE BRAKES

Sudden and without any warning, complete catastrophic brake failure while stopped attempting to pay at the pay station to exit a parking garage. My truck was fully stopped, in drive with my foot on the footbrake pedal, and started moving forward and suddenly lurched thru the parking exit gate and damaging it and the front end of my truck. Fortunately, no one was crossing on the sidewalk in front my truck or they would have been injured or worse, or we would have T-boned by oncoming traffic on the street. There was brake fluid in several areas where I parked the vehicle on the street after moving from the parking garage. There was a "low brake fluid warning light" after having the truck towed to Haley Ford in Chester, VA. There were warnings prior to the accident. The truck had had a "The Works" service done at Haley Ford the week prior. Haley Ford claims the front brake lines were leaking and need to be replaced after their "diagnostic" inspection.

STRUCTURE:BODY

The door latches on some of the f150s, including mine, freeze under certain weather conditions. This presents the latches from opening. This can trap an individual inside in an emergency situation, or prevent someone from opening the door external to remove or address babies and children, which is an issue I experienced. Ford is aware of the problem, but will not repair unless the issue is replicated in an unrealistic environment. This leaves many owners at risk of a dangerous situation should the issue occur in a non-controlled environment. The inverse issue can also occur, where the door latches does not close properly and can cause the door to open during driving, and this has also been experienced. There are no warnings of the problem ahead of time.

My truck while driving will downshift into 1st gear. There are no warnings before hand. This puts me and other drivers in harms way. This has happened 4-5 times previously and then it has happened 2 this past week. When it happens my truck just stops and because my foot is on the gas the engine will rev until I put my foot on the brake. I have been very fortunate that no one has rear ended me. I do have an appt with my Ford Dealership for this coming Tuesday. At this point I’m afraid to drive it until this matter has been taken care of. Vehicle will down shift while traveling at hi way speed. It will almost make you skid.

SUSPENSION

Dangerous hop that I was experiencing and would happen on a straight away going down the interstate. I did not have to be hitting a corner for the back end to hop sideways on me. It also would happen going around a slight corner. So pretty much, it happened no matter what when Id hit bumps at higher speeds. But it most definitely was a dangerous scenario for my truck and Ford should not take that lightly. But the chances of them coming up with a fix anytime soon is not likely. The shocks they come up with still do not do as good of job in front or the rear. Complete loss of the vehicle going around of the vehicle, which feels as its fishtailing or hitting black ice. I have replaced the original shocks hoping it would help, and new struts did not solve my problem. The only alternative is to purchase expensive suspension all together. The dealer should be made accountable for providing poor quality suspension which can result in the serios vehicle accident if the driver loses control.

I have had the torque converter replaced/repaired due to a failing torques converter that caused a "rumble strip" sensation while driving and also have had to have both front and rear differentials repaired due to failed bearings. The truck has also exhibited a "groaning" sound when idling in a parking lot, or coming to a stop that dealership could never determine what cause was. I have also had a indicator light flash in my dash indicating a failed Traction Control Device, which never appeared in any diagnostics. I believe these items can also contribute to the issue at hand in the investigation of PE25002. This has happened multiple times, but I first noticed July 2021.

I Was Highway Driving this afternoon so speed was about 65mph with Cruise Control On, and suddenly the truck downshifted through the gears like it went into low gear and almost lost control of the Vehicle but was able to safely pull over to the side of the road. Warning light came on as this happened that looked like a wrench(never seen before). Talked to my mechanic right away and confirmed the code that triggered the “Wrench”icon and showed 'bad lead frame in the transmission’… I have never had such an experience with a vehicle ( other then that something severely breakdown because of broken part or flat) to cause such an unsafe situation and thus reason for making this my first ever Report to the NHTSA. So hopefully gets documented and seen by the proper authority’s to remedy this before someone could easily have lost control and been severely injured. To whom it may concern. The vehicle down shifts from a much higher gear to a lower gear which causes a violent slow down and high revs of the engine. This is happening much more frequently and is dangerous because of the rapid deceleration. The reason I think it is downshifting is the RPM's spike and the gear selector flashes when the episode happens. My VIN Number is [XXX] . I have taken the vehicle in a few times to my local Ford Dealer. Hall Ford Elizabeth City NC. They tell me there is nothing more they can do until Ford gives them direction. I had another service appointment today and I pushed Hall Ford Elizabeth City NC to do another inspection and they did see a code which they say they reset but did not know if it was what caused our issue. Front passenger door failed to latch properly. The door will not close when pushed shut. Door is available for inspection upon request. Multiple family members ride in the front passenger seat and this door failing to close and latch properly does cause a serious concern for their safety. I avoid putting any passenger in the front passenger seat because it's is completely random if the door will latch and shut or if it will pop open while driving. Problem was reproduced and confirmed by local dealership but disputed by them. Vehicle has not be inspected by manufacturer, police or insurance. There was no warning lamps or messages of the problem prior to the failure. The only message is that the passenger door is open which is a typical message when any door is opened when entering and exiting the vehicle. It is not a warning. Just a reminder. Doors shutting, latching and locking properly are a major safety concern that no vehicle owner should have to stress over. I cannot safely put my family in this truck knowing that at any moment the door will not latch or that it will open as we drive down the road.

Was driving down highway going about 60/65 mph. Then the transmission shifted from 6th gear to 1st gear very rapidly. Was able to pull over to side of road and truck repeatedly jerked while shifting back into 3rd then back to 6th. Truck drove normally for a while afterward and then it happened again when driving roughly 40 mph. This seems like a major safety issue considering downshifting 5 gears suddenly reduces speed quickly and can cause an accident or loss of control. It seems something with the transmission is the issue. It is available for inspection if requested. There’s been issues with the gears shifting incorrectly and when taken to ford they just say they don’t know what I’m talking about and give the truck back but it’s pretty obvious when driving that there’s a transmission issue. However this is the first instance where it shifted significantly when driving at a high speed. The check engine and wrench lights popped on when the incident occurred as well.

On [XXX] I was pulling a trailer with a 1981 F150 home from Louisville, KY. When we enter onto the Interstate System and reached cruising speed by transmission indicator started jumping around switch between gear and downshifted very hard into first gear while I was navigating traffic - semi trailers and passenger vehicles around us. The truck then went into what I would call limp mood for several miles and we were unable to maintain highway speeds with nowhere to exit the interstate there in Louisville area. Eventually the truck regained normal power and we continued our journey back home to the St. Louis Missouri area. We had to stop several time out of fear to check engine oil, transmission fluid and engine temperature out of precautions. We were very stressed after this hard downshift that almost resulted in striking other vehicles on the interstate from the downshifting and rapid decrease in speed on the interstate. No warning light came on just the crazy shift indicator lights going haywire. The next day on [XXX] I was going to refuel and the transmission downshift again on me from 6 gear to first without warning. I took and dropped it off at a local shop for inspection and fixing. While driving a 2016 Ford F-150 XLT Supercab with a 6-speed transmission and 5.0L V-8, the truck was acting abnormally where the rear tires locked up and chirped once, then acted normally. The following week I auto-started the truck to warm the engine up prior to leaving for work, the transmission clunked into reverse and moved, then when in forward motion the transmission lagged and heavily shifted upon acceleration. I turned around, came home, and switched vehicles. Upon arriving home after work, I took the truck for a test drive and it functioned normally, so I continued onto the grocery store. While traveling at 35mph, the transmission slammed into first gear and jolted me. The transmission began shifting on its own from 1st to 3rd back to 1st then to reverse. I was stopped in the middle of the road. I shut the truck off and waited approximately 5 to 10 minutes and tried to restart the vehicle. It wouldn't start, then it finally started and I pulled off to the side of the road. (There was no shoulder.) I gingerly pulled out and started my way back home. Luckily I made it home. There was no engine light (wrench) on the dashboard. I let the truck sit overnight. I started it the following morning, and then the light turned on. The mechanic noticed the presence of metal shavings. The mechanic replaced the left and right hub assemblies, two actuators, the vacuum lines, and the tubing solenoid. The vehicle was repaired. The contact related the failure to TSB Number: 18-2273. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not covered under warranty. after warming up vehicle would not idle right when coming to a stop. it was intermittent at first but then got progressively worse. While sitting at a stop light rpms would go up to about 1000 then surge beyond without any input from me and then drop to below 500 sometimes killing the engine at what was suppose to be idle. there were not codes or check engine light but took to dealership when it first started happening they said they couldn't find anything wrong. during this time i replaced spark plugs, coils and timing sensors trying to fix but it those repairs didn't take care of it. but then it became more consistent and took it back in and they were able to confirm the problem occurring and after testing they recommended and changed out the timing components and all cam phasers, phaser filters and all vct solenoids

This caused a quick loss of control and reduction of speed while in traffic. Luckily no accident occured during this. If it had not shifted back to 6th gear, the result would have been much different putting myself and others on the road at risk of an accident at high speeds with traffic behind the vehicle and oncoming traffic. Prior to this incident the truck would occassionally not start and the gear selection indicator was not illuminated as normal and the engine light would occasionally come on. Speaking with Ford dealerships they identified it as the molded lead frame connector within the transmission. I'm unsure of the damage this has caused on other parts from the significant shift change at high speeds and I'm concerned of what has been damaged but not shown as of yet. They replaced the molded lead frame connector at a cost to me and the truck has not had that issue since.

POWER TRAIN

Component/System: Automatic transmission. Yes, the failed transmission components are possible but not likely available for inspection upon request contingent on the repair shop not having scrapped them. I’ve had two transmission rebuilds due to repeated failures. Safety Risk: The vehicle unexpectedly downshifted to a lower gear at highway speeds without warning, causing sudden deceleration. Also, at red lights causing jolting or delayed acceleration. This put my safety and others at serious risk of rear-end collisions or loss of vehicle control, especially during high-speed driving, in addition to other things. Confirmed by Service: Yes, the issue was diagnosed and confirmed by two independent repair shops. Each diagnosed severe internal transmission failure consistent with sudden mechanical shock. The failure of the transmission had codes displayed indicating such, and I have a print out from the mechanic prior to the rebuild as I wanted to confirm it was not any other issue before rebuilding. Inspections: The state of New Jersey has not inspected this vehicle. Warning Signs: There were no dashboard warning lights, error messages, or audible alerts prior to the failure that reasonably could have been linked to such event(s). The first rebuild occurred in early 2023, and similar failures repeated despite full rebuilds. No advance indication was ever given before the vehicle downshifted. Second rebuild was in the Fall of 2023. In prior instances to rebuilds, there were wrench light warning alerts indicated on dashboard, however they made no sense and clicking OK dismissed them with no re-alert or info pertaining to such. When this did occur, and since nothing could be linked to it in the average drivers head, it was assumed an accidental notification.

My truck has locked up my rear wheels 2 times already as of this afternoon on my way home.It automatically goes from 3 gear or 4,5or 6th down to 1st gear causing me to almost get rear ended.It thrown codes and i have took it to local ford dealership and was charged to check it out only to be told it owe them 214.00 and it was gonna be 8000.00 to fix it since it was out of date.I have been told it is my leadframe part gone bad and will do this again.My wife has stopped letting my son ride in this truck until we can find 8000.00 to drive it safely. The truck grinds when it down shifts to third gear when yoyr driving. While driving the truck skips and makes a terrible jerking motion. When it does it, it feels like the bottom of the truck is going to fall out. Sometimes you have to pull over and turn the truck off and on. The truck is available for inspection if requested. I was driving the truck and the wheels seized up. Making me skid. Luckily I wasn’t driving fast. So I looked up what could cause this and it stated it was the lead frame sensor. Before I could get it into the dealership for repairs the truck downshifted several more times. I was able to find the repair online. Unfortunately the dealership tried to sell me a new transmission. I relented and told them what the issue was due to investigating in F-150 chat groups. The rear collision sensor went off. Also the shift sensor went out as well.

Passenger door will not latch and close on 2016 Ford F-150 after snow storm. While the vehicle was parked, the front passenger's side door latch failed to latch as intended. We discovered the issue when we were trying to leave our house during the extremely cold freezing weather. The door had to be manually held closed when traveling a short distance. We were able to get it latched to drive on the interstate to church, but then it failed to latch after coming out of church service, when we had to hold it closed manually for a short distance. We then had to use rope to keep the door shut by securing it to another door on the opposite side while traveling back on the interstate to get home. The truck has not been diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 106,000.

I have a recall that claims to be completed on my truck, but two dealerships claim that it is not done with photo evidence. I would like this recall addressed properly as i am not trying to pay two thousand dollars out of pocket for just the driver and passenger doors. This recall is on my 2016 F150 . This is a door latch problem on all 4 doors. I noticed this when winter came around and my driver door latch/cable would freeze. I drove to work multiple times holding my door shut. I have been trying to get this resolved for the past 3 months and i keep getting a different answer from everyone i have reached out to including poor customer service. This is unacceptable and i certainly wont be purchasing a ford ever again.

ENGINE

Oil pan leaked once before I bought the vechicle and once again at 90,000 miles and once again at 143,000 miles. Ford knows there is a problem related to the oil pan gasket and plastic oil pan. Ford upgraded the seal but it will still leak because the pan will get warped from the heat. On the ford forum multiple people have reported this as a problem as well.

ENGINE

Dec 2021 - Normal maintenance check including oil change. Technician informed me about leakage at oil pan. TSB 23-2083. Replaced defective oil pan. Jan 2025 - Normal maintenance check including oil change. Technical informed me about leakage at oil pan. TSB 24-2098. New design oil pan & replaced defective oil pan. Ford customer service notified. I requested if there was any financial compensation associated with these 2 repairs under respective TSBs. Answer - out of warranty. Internet searching - seems that these leakage at oil pan is known issue by Ford including a redesigned oil pan. Question = why is there no safety recall yet ?? These TSBs only give info about defect and how to fix. If vehicle is out of warranty, the repair cost is up to consumer. Consumer may not understand total impact = SAFETY issue because no oil then engine can malfunction or overheat resulting in vehicle stoppage on road (potential crash).

Exhaust leak from manifold and broken bolt from engine block causing unhealthy exhaust to go into the cabin. Faulty Exhaust manifold removed/replaced with an upgraded new manifold/engine block bolts by license auto repair shop.

The rear Axel is starting to fail. This vehicle has not been used in a work/commercial environment. The rear axel has a loud humming noise, it was diagnosed as a bad spider gear and bearing. This is also causing major limitations on the initial speed up of the vehicle. This is causing a drag feeling when accelerating into a highway. It’s a 3 thousand dollar rebuild. This is extremely weird, a drivetrain Axel should not fail under regular driving conditions.

In addition, the contact stated that the metal showed stress cracks. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 91,000.

Under light acceleration at highway speeds developed a misfire. Pulled over immediately and shut the vehicle down. Started vehicle up again and misfire was still occurring even at idle. Went straight to dealership where service department diagnosed as engine issues related to TSB 19-2384. Known defect to Ford related to a "concern with cylinder head valve guides". Advised by dealer this required new cylinder head but recommended entire long block replacement. Upon further discussion, manufacturer knew about this issue and did not recommend repair until symptoms developed because of their defect. Outside of warranty so dealer said they could provide no payment assistance. Spoke with Ford customer care and they informed me of the same and referred me to NHTSA.

At approximately 62,000 miles, a loud noise started from the passenger side of the engine, car was taken to the local Ford dealership for repairs, and it was determined that the bolts for the exhaust manifold broke which was causing fumes to enter the passenger compartment. Repairs were made at my cost of $6000, and calls were made to Ford Corporate for monetary help but they declined any help at all!

While driving my truck the transmission gear lights on the dash will begin to flash and the transmission will downshift very hard causing the rear end to lock up. This has happened three times now at traveling at a high rate of speed on the interstate (roughly 60-65 MPH).

I NEED TO REPORT FAILURE FIXING MY CAR RECALL NAMED *Faulty door Latch HARVARD FORD TEXTED ME TO RAKE MY CAR TO GET DONE BUT THEY DID A BAD JOB REPAIR INSTEAD OF REPLACE RECALL PART THEY DIDNT THEY DID CUT OUT WIRE HARNESS INSTEAD .Therefore THAT DAMAGED TYE AUTO NOW REVERSE CAM SCREEN IS NOT WORKING .TYE DOORS OPEN ITSELF WHILE IM DRIVING IT .DASH Board IS NOT ALSO WORKING IM FILLING A COMPLAINT AGAINST HARVARD FORD DEALERSHIP THE SOLUTION zI need is the following they need to REPLACE ALL COMPLETE NEW WIRE HARNESS ASAP.ALDI NEW REVERSE CAM AND SCREEN .IM ATTACHED ALL PROOF OF THE DAMAGE ..

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Transmission gets stuck in 3rd or sometimes 5th gear when in Drive. Shifting to 1, 2, or M does nothing; shifting from Neutral to Reverse or Drive creates a large clunk and lunge. It seems to be the same issue as the 2014 F-150 & Expedition 6R80 transmission recall and is so common that it took no time at all to find out what my problem likely is.. This is the 5th time this has happened. Two times were when pulling out onto very busy roads, once in a parking lot, once in a field, and once turning into my alley; some incidents were years apart. If it were to happen again when I needed 1st gear to avoid being hit, I would not have the power for needed acceleration or to make a proper maneuver. It also acts very funny when it happens and creates a very large distraction from driving. When I was able to get back off the main road, it seemed like there was light smoke coming from under the truck so I shut the vehicle down in the middle of a smaller road, which was dangerous enough. I have less than 30,000 miles on my truck and am very maintenance minded; this should not be a worry I should have to have. This appears to be the result of a defective part in the transmission called the "Lead Frame" and it is not easy to find a new one right now due to the excessive amount of them needing replacement.
