Rear backup camera does not function. Either gives a blank image or a flipped/reversed image or a very grainy image. It has been properly inoperable for years, since at least 10/1/2022. Why were Explorers not included in recall 25V57200? The cameras were the same as the Edge and Expedition which were included, and I believe the same for the Mustang.

See attached document for complaint. I am writing to formally report a serious and ongoing delay in the fulfillment of Safety Recall 24S02 (NHTSA Recall 24V031) for my 2015 Ford Explorer, which poses a hazard not only to my family but to others on the road. This recall involves the exterior trim on the A-pillars of the vehicle detaching while driving. In our case, this hazard has already occurred-one of the trims on our vehicle flew off while we were on the highway. Thankfully, no one was injured, but this incident highlights the urgency of the recall and the risk posed by the remaining trim, which could detach at any time. Despite receiving the recall notice in early 2024, and despite repeated attempts over the past year and a half to get the necessary parts, we have been informed by our dealership that Ford has not manufactured or supplied any parts for this recall. The dealership confirmed that they requested the parts back in February 2024, but as of today, no update or estimated timeline has been provided by Ford. This situation is unacceptable and has left us driving a vehicle with a known, active safety hazard. We feel that Ford has failed to meet its obligation to repair this defect within a reasonable timeframe, and we are deeply concerned for our safety and the safety of others on the road.

Hello. From what I understand, Ford has not come up with a solution for the exterior a--pillar applique trim clip attachments. I fully believe they have abandoned this issue as its not a brand new vehicle. Well, its new to me so it fully counts and should not be abandoned. I was on the highway in St. Louis, Missouri (I live right across the river in Illinois) and out of nowhere, something hit my car. I swerved and almost hit a driver to my left and after that, I almost got the guy in front of me. Now this caused a massive panic attack and soon after anxiety set in. I have horrible anxiety issues and I have the prescriptions to prove it. Its so bad, I can't fall asleep and so I take another prescrption for help getting to sleep. Anyway, I got off the closest ramp ands parked to see what happened. Sure enough, the passenger side exterior a-pillar is hanging there. That's the "something that hit the car and almost caused a multi car accident. I tried to call Ford about this but I'm left with ongoing ringing. Live chat agent had no idea what I was talking about. That set me off. I had taken a screenshot of the Kelly Blue Book website stating there was a recall, which, by the way, has been removed. Now that is extra suspicious. The KBB website stated notices were sent sometime earlier this year but I got nothing. The registration is in my name and is 100% accurate with my address and phone number are all up to date. I found no other way to contact Ford. I didn't want to file a complaint, but here we are. This is a SAFETY issue which caused me to fall into a panic and anxiety attack. I have a witness as my husband was in that passenger seat when it happened. Like I said, I, without a single doubt, believe that Ford Motors has abandoned this problem and that they don't care. This issue needs addressed now. I can't afford to go get it repaired myself as I am between jobs. If this isn't resolved, I will call my attorney for guidance.

The exterior A-pillar trim part is loose causing water to leak through. You can hear/feel the air in the corner of the windshield as the SUV is moving. I have tried several times since receiving this recall notice in FEBRUARY 2024 to get this fixed and replaced through FORD. Each time brought my car in for service over the past 18 months, I was told that the part was not available but was on back order. In the meantime, water and moisture gets through causing a smell and mold. This is a health and safety issue. How do I get this repaired?

I received a recall letter in February 2024 stating there was a recall on my vehicle and that the parts for fixing the recall were out of stock, and they should be available in the latter half of 2024. I never recieved another letter and the part of my vehicle that is recalled flew off my vehicle while driving on the highway it hit my rear passenger window and scared everyone in the vehicle the window didn't bust and I didn't realize that it was a piece of my vehicle that flew off until I got to where I was headed and seen the part missing, while we were driving I thought someone threw something out the window.

The pillar trim recall has been in effect for nearly 2 years. I took my husband’s Explorer (I am his legal guardian as he suffered [XXX] and he has been hospitalized for over a year) to Chillicothe MO Ford in October of 2024 for the safety recall on this trim issue, as my A pillar trim flew off from the highway and may have impacted another vehicle on [XXX] between St. Joseph and Kansas City at around that time. Chillicothe Ford inspected the vehicle and ordered parts. It is now almost over a year, and neither Chillicothe Ford or Ford Corporate Office can give me an estimate on when it the parts are available. I escalated this concern yet again to Ford Corporate, and they blamed it on the Chillicothe dealership for not requesting an emergency part order. I talked to Chillicothe Ford immediately thereafter, and they said that they did escalate the part request, and nothing has been done -not just for me but over 10 other Explorer owners who are waiting on the parts for this recall. I called Richmond MO Ford dealership this week, and was informed they had the same problem and that Ford is lying about the part availability. Almost a million consumers are affected by this recall, and accordingly there are exponentially as many unfortunate drivers who could be hit by flying parts, and Ford REFUSES TO ADDRESS THIS RECALL. My sister had the same part fall off her car into traffic a month ago with her Ford Explorer. THIS IS A LIFE SAFETY ISSUE AND NHSTA NEEDS TO HOLD FORD MOTOR COMPANY ACCOUNTABLE FOR WILLFULLY PUTTING THE PUBLIC IN HARM’S WAY! As I was parking my 2015 Ford Explorer Sport, a warning appeared on the instrument panel stating “Power Steering Assist Fault,” and the steering suddenly became so difficult that I was unable to move the vehicle. Although this has only happened once, I’m very concerned about the possibility of it occurring again—especially while driving on the highway. Losing the ability to steer could put my family’s lives, and the lives of others, in serious danger. I have read numerous customer complaints about this exact issue on the NHTSA website. It’s time for the manufacturer to issue a recall for these vehicles and fix the problem before someone loses their life due to this defect.

The power steering assist in my vehicle is becoming progressively worse, I would welcome an inspection. Basically, the power steering assist will vary throughout the sweep of the steering wheel. During a turn or lane change the power steering may feel normal, be non-existent, or alternate between the 2 conditions, often requiring significant force to steer the vehicle (vehicle speed seems to make no difference.) This condition is an obvious safety risk for vehicle occupants or any other vehicles, pedestrians, or property in the vicinity. The problem has not been confirmed by a dealer or service center - I have gathered from researching various message boards that Ford will disavow the issue and tell me that I will need a new steering rack at a charge of approximately $3,000. No inspection has been done as of yet. No warning lamps or messages have presented as of yet and there are no unusual sounds accompanying the problem. The problem has been going on for approximately 3 weeks.

When you are in park and the car is on there is a lot of play in the steering wheel and it sounds like something is broken and when you are driving, the steering wheel and car itself starts shaking. I believe it is the rack and pinion as everything the dealer quoted it was the rack and pinion and steering box. it is now undrivable because we took it to the dealership and couldn't afford the parts and labor to fix it even though it was clearly a manufacturing issue.

Malfunction of rear view camera, available upon request. When in reverse the camera will go black and read "Camera is Unavailable. Please contact your dealership." It will not attempt to show a live picture until placed back into park and into reverse again. Often it will not function correctly even after that. It now happens almost constantly to the point it is completely unreliable. The fear of endangering someone or something by relying on a rear view camera that I know could malfunction at any moment, is too great. The problem was witnessed by a Ford Dealership mechanic who was repairing the recall on the frame piece to the windshield. Date of Occurrence: Monday, [XXX] While driving on [XXX] in Florida, the Exterior A-Pillar on the Drivers Side Window blew off of my vehicle. The entire thing! My Vehicle has been under a Recall for this very problem. Safety Recall Notice 24S02/NHTSA Recall 24V031. I even had a repair appointment set up at the Dealership that we bought the vehicle from in 2018. Paradise Ford in Cocoa, FL. Upon arrival, I was informed that they had no parts and would actually, be calling all of the other clients that were scheduled that day for the same repair. Since then, I have received an additional Letter from the Ford Company letting me know that Parts are still unavailable. Now, that this has occurred, I have reached out to a local Ford Dealership here in Wisconsin (our Primary Residence) and also been told that no parts are available. I am currently awaiting a call back from them as of yesterday 05/29/2025, to see if there are any other options other than them using an off market part to replace the Pillar at my cost (option told to me by their Service Scheduling Girl. Needless to say, we averted a possible very bad situation this past Monday. If this piece, which is rather larger, had hit another car, there could have been a very negative outcome. My complaint is that, I am now driving a vehicle that is missing an important part. I want it fixed. We have been waiting, patiently, for going on 2 years. Upon research, I've seen articles written that these parts have been on Backorder since this recall was initiated. And, that there are approximately 5% of these vehicles that will experience the disengagement of this part(s). Sounds like Ford is dropping the ball on this, big time. What are my options now? I need to get this repaired as well as have the Passenger side Pillar also replaced since one has already 'fallen off'. And, the entire Drivers side Window is now exposed to additional damage/failure without that piece in place. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5

On the hood, the paint is coming off (and has been for several years). It looks like maybe where it was "clamped" (for lack of better words) while they were painting the hood and maybe the paint didn't adhere like it should. I have actually seen several 2015 Ford Explorers that have the exact same paint spots missing on their hoods. One time I almost tried to get into another Explorer because it was black and the paint was missing in the same spot and i thought it was my car. My next issue is the back up camera doesn't work more often than it does. It always says unavailable. I know there have been recalls on other Fords for the exact same reason, so not sure why 2015 Ford Explorers were excluded.

The Backup Camera and dashboard screen are malfunctioning. The dashboard screen is completely black/blank when car is put in reverse. There are no warning lamps on dash or any other messages showing any errors/failures, etc. This is a safety issue, due to blind spots on vehicle. I took car to mechanic and they said this is an "on going issue with Ford, multiple people are having issues. The backup up camera needs to be replaced but that also means the dash board screen and everything else needs to replaced also since all tied together, this is very costly, keep looking for the recall". No need to involve insurance or police as there has not been an accident. I saw the most recent recalls but it did not include the 2015 Explorer it included other 2015 models. This has been happening for a while now probably started happening at 70,000 miles and now I have 115,000 miles. Bought the car when it had 35,000 miles on it.

The back up camera on my explorer has been experiencing intermittent failure for about the past month. It started by occasionally losing the parking lines while I was in reverse, and has progressed to a black screen while I'm in the process of backing up. Sometimes it's just a glitchy image, and sometimes it goes in and out while in reverse. The component has not yet been inspected. There were no indications of a problem before the issue began. This is concerning because the height of the vehicle does not allow me to see objects that are directly behind the vehicle, such as the neighborhood children running around. I experienced this failure on a rainy day with low visibility and backed into a mailbox.

I experienced and continue to experience intermittent sudden loss of Electric Power Steering while driving. The sudden loss of Electric Power Steering (EPS) is not accompanied by any warning light or alarm indicating there may be a problem. EPS returns intermittently. Other model years of the 5th Gen Explorers have been recalled for similar issues with the EPS system, but my vin has not been included in those recalls. My personal safety and the safety of other drivers was put at risk because the steering wheel seized up and became very hard to turn resulting in me losing control of the vehicle for a few moments the first time it happened. The most dangerous part of this situation is that the sudden loss of the EPS happens unexpectedly; I almost drifted into the right lane while executing a turn from the left lane due to the steering wheel transitioning from fluid to very stiff. I've scheduled to have the local dealership run a diagnostic, but this issue has not yet been evaluated in any local professional capacity.

We received the February 2024 notice but not the July 2025 recall notice stating the parts were available. We took our vehicle in for other work during August 2024 and Helena Motors took our A-pillar appliqué trim off without notifying us. They said it was loose but we hadn’t notice that. In fact, my spouse cleaned the windshield and pillars the day before are appointment and the A-pillar trim was tight. They said they didn’t have the parts for replacement but would order them and contact us. We contacted them in September and they said the part wasn’t ordered but they would order it and let us know when it was in. This behavior has continued and we still don’t have the replacement part on the spot where they removed the part. We have been getting the runaround from Helena Motors for six and half months. Employees that are suppose to be getting the parts don’t return calls.

Power steering has failed on the vehicle which causes serious safety risks when driving. During cold temperatures the power steering freezes completely and drivers are unable to turn the wheels at all leaving us stranded. We have had the rack & pinion replaced and the power steering re-programed by Ford 3 separate times with a professional repair/alignment shop and continue to experience the problem. Power Steering issues are a well known problem and many similar year/models have been recalled previously. I firmly believe this is a manufacturing defect on Ford's part and all models of the ford explorer from this year should have been recalled instead of only select models/VIN numbers.
