Risk: If the torque converter weld studs fail, the torque converter will not be connected to the engine flexplate and the vehicle will lose the ability to move, increasing the risk of a crash.

Coolant intrusion defect. The engine coolant leaks into the combustion chamber, due to a failure in the engine block design. TSB 19-2346 issued by Ford addresses this known and serious issue for my 2018 Ford Edge, 2.0L EcoBoost engine. In 2024, I purchased a used, 2018 Ford Edge with 49k miles. A few months after I purchased this used vehicle at a dealership, my Check Engine light came on. The vehicle showed other symptoms of white smoke, coolant loss, misfiring and rough idle. I brought my car to a local dealership (not the same dealership that I purchased the vehicle) and they confirmed the coolant intrusion defect. When I purchased the vehicle, it didn't come with a warranty. I tried getting help from by calling Ford Customer Service, and they offered no goodwill assistance and no coverage assistance at all. I ended up having a new engine put in my vehicle for $7,000. This was done by a local car repair shop, not done at a dealership. I now have to pay a loan for $7k on top of my monthly car payment that existed before the new engine. Although my vehicle is no longer under warrant, I understand this issue stems from a documented manufacturing defect and has affected a wide range of Ford models. I've taken good care of my vehicle and it has been maintained regularly. I want to retain confidence in Ford as a brand that stands behind its products, but I didn't get anywhere with Ford after submitting a case and speaking with a representative and also a manager. I don't know what else to do in trying to get reimbursed for the replacement of the engine of $7,000. I would like to be added to any potential class-action. The back-up camera failed in August of 2024. The camera displayed a blank or distorted image (it changed as put in reverse) on the center display screen when the vehicle was put in reverse AND on occasion displayed a message on the center display screen that the rear-view camera is unavailable. The vehicle is available for inspection. THE REAR-VIEW CAMERA FAILURE REDUCED OR DISTORTED THE DRIVERS VIEW OF WHAT IS BEHIND THE VEHICLE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. This specific failure is under a current/new recall: Sep 08,2025 Manufacturer Recall Number 25S89 NHTSA Recall Number 25V572. Yes, this vehicle was inspected AND repaired by Greenway Ford, 9001 E. Colonial Drive, Orlando, FL 32817 for which I paid them $1,260.02 on 8/28/2024. I do not recall any different warnings, messages or other symptoms other than those already described here within.

Luckily I was able to get it to the dealer before that happened. FORD is aware of this defective motor in these models but has refused to issue a recall. My car is a 2018, however, the car ONLY has 50,000 miles on it. I want others to know of this danger. These engines should be recalled before someone is hurt in crash due to this defect.

I had a Cylinder misfire (code P0302) due to coolant intrusion into the engine cylinder. This was due to a crack in the engine block. This is a common issue with the 2.0L ecoboost engine. No recall. Ford's fix was for me to replace the long block engine with a redesign version to fix the casting problem. This cost was covered by me, even though this is a known common issue by Ford that requires an engine replacement. The engine had 78,193 miles on it, so it was out of warranty. On August 19, 2025, Koons Woodbridge Ford determined my 2028 Ford Edge requires a long block replacement due to coolant intrusion into cylinder 3, per customer invoice RO# [XXX] Tag# [XXX]. This is a known issue, which is documented by technical service bulletin 22-2229. Aimee DePugh, Koons Woodbridge Ford Service Advisor, informed me that I should contact Ford to request reimbursement. However, the guidance I received was to send the dealership service manager written correspondence requesting the dealership restore the engine at their expense because of the known engine design flaw. I have a 2018 Ford Edge Titanium Eco Boost with 115,000 miles on it. I bought it used in 2018 with 17,000 miles on it. The engine light came on and I took it to a repair shop. The codes are p0303 and p0316. They inspected the cylinder and there is coolant leaking into cylinder 3. Apparently this is very common for this vehicle and is described as a design flaw. With this problem being very common and a known design flaw from Ford, I strongly encourage a recall.

2018 Ford Edge, 79K miles. Check engine light came on and I immediately had it checked out. It was misfiring, spark plugs were replaced to attempt to fix the issue. Light came back on a few weeks later, it was discovered that coolant was leaking into cylinder 3 and causing the misfire. Ford recommends that the engine be replaced. This appears to be an issue that Ford is very aware of and many Ford Edges are affected, yet there is not a recall. This defect may lead to overheating and can result in the cylinder head cracking, total engine failure, and/or engine fires. This puts me and other drivers at significant risk and I am very displeased with Ford.

On July 20,2025, at about 4:30pm to 5:30pm, I drove less than two blocks from home when the engine light and the overterature light came on suddenly. Simultaneously, the vehicle began to shake. I was about two to three blocks from an Auto Zone parts supply store. I drove there slowly. Once at the location, I asked for assistance in determining what caused the issue with my car. The representative used a device that indicated that check engine failed, and emission ready status was no. I was advised to purchase coolant for my model vehicle. Once purchased, the representative tried to fill the reservoir. However, the reservoir indicated that it was full after using less than half of what was in the gallon bottle. We waited a while to determine if the level would decrease. While at the store, the level remained constant at the full level. He recommended that I start the engine. The car no longer shook and the indicators did not come back on until I drove about a mile away. I was near another Auto Zone store, nearly a mile from my house. The representative there was able to pour the remainder of the coolant into the reservoir. When asked, I was told that I should contact a mechanic regarding the issue. I asked if it would be safe to drive the car home to make arrangements to have the car towed, as where we (myself and two young grandchildren) were in a location that did not seem safe to wait very long. I drove slowly to my house, using emergency blinkers. I was able to park the car in the driveway until I could arrange to have the car towed to a recommended repair shop. I have an extended warranty from an Auto warranty company. The car was towed to AAMCO less than 10 miles away. So far, all they have been able to tell me is that the oil is clean, but the level is very low. I do not know the cause, as I have the oil changed, and other lubricant and liquids levels checked at least every 7.5K miles. I also check my indicators on a regular basis, whenever I drive.

Found trouble code PO304 in the computers history indicates that the misfire is not coming from the spark plug or ignition coil. Checked the fuel injector and no problem was found. Removed cylinder#4=spark plug and found a small amount of evidence that coolant is entering the cylinder. There is a TSB for engine blocks cracking and causing the problem. This was found by the auto service I use. Called dealership and was told this does happen. A new engine would have to installed if my engine light comes back on. They would have put in the same type of engine! REALLY? Wouldn’t this happen again with a new engine? I do not know how to download the service slip

This appears to be a widespread and well-documented issue across multiple Ford models and years, due to a design flaw in the engine block or head gasket area that allows coolant to enter the combustion chamber. I was not notified of any recall or service bulletin, yet this issue has caused major financial and safety concerns. There is currently a class-action lawsuit related to this defect, and Ford has not issued any official remedy despite knowing of the issue for years. I am submitting this report in hopes that NHTSA will investigate this defect and urge Ford to issue a recall or remedy before more consumers suffer unexpected engine failure.

Hello, I have had this Ford edge for about two years. My first year it started giving me problems so I took it in and they told me that I needed a whole new engine which is shocking because I just got it, as I saved for money they told me it should last a little bit longer, so I held it off for a little bit and recently it started to jump every time I was at a stoplight or a stop sign and sometimes just completely shut off, so I took it in again and they told me that I need a whole new engine and that there are no recalls on my car so I did some research and I’ve noticed that a lot of people have problems with the exact same thing that I do on their 2018 Ford edge. I’m really just hoping that there is something that can be done.

Beyond this, it is my 17 year old daughter driving this car and she could be stranded some place unsafe due to not starting or in the middle of traffic while driving. It has been inspected by a mechanic to confirm the leak. Ford's issuing of a TSB on this issue (TSB 22-2229) - calls for a new engine. Ford knows they have made faulty engines in these cars and refuses to help cover the cost of replacement.

Beyond this, it is my 17 year old daughter driving this car and she could be stranded some place unsafe due to not starting or in the middle of traffic while driving. Ford knows they have made faulty engines in these cars and refuses to help cover the cost of replacement.

According to this case it states, "It pertains to 2013-2019 Ford Escape, 2013-2019 Ford Fusion, 2015-2018 Ford Edge, 2016-2019 Lincoln MKC, and 2016-2019 Lincoln MKZ models equipped with the 1.5L, 1.6L, and 2.0L EcoBoost engines, specifically, citing coolant intrusion as its chief focus." There are similar cases filed in U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware, as well as another in the Ontario Court of Justice in Canada. My vehicle exhibits nearly all of the issues common with coolant intrusion which can be Overheating, Coolant consumption issues, Engine misfire, Engine damage, and Engine fire Smoke coming from exhaust pipes. According to the current cases and complaints the models experiencing this issue are 2013-2019 Ford Escape, 2013-2019 Ford Fusion, 2015-2018 Ford Edge, 2017-2019 Lincoln MKC, 2017-2019 Lincoln MKZ. I respectfully ask that you hold Ford accountable for this issue as it has placed undue financial burden on the consumer. Another issue with this was that you could no longer see the speedometer as the steering spoke was covering it, we drove to the closest Ford dealer from where we were and we were told they didn’t have time to look at it on that day. I confirmed with the cashier that they were sending us away with a vehicle with a steering issue and the cashier once again just said they could not look at it on that day which I was not asking them to do I just wanted to leave it and go off in a loaner that I was able to get under the extended warranty. We went to the second ford dealer that was closer to our home and they took the vehicle in and 2 different service writers stated they had never seen anything like this before. they had the vehicle for a total of 3 weeks to diagnosis and replace the steering wheel and try to get the wheel back into alignment which took 2 trips. The second visit we met with the master tech at Ford country who went for a drive with us and could see that the Ford emblem in the center of the wheel was not straight and it took them 2 or 3 attempts to get it straight and the master tech with 35 years of experience stated they had only seen this 1 other time in all their years of working on vehicles. Ford’s 2.0L EcoBoost engine failed on our on a 2018 Edge. The vehicle and engine are available for inspection. The engine suffered a catastrophic failure and must be replaced per Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 19-2346. Ford issued TSB 19-2346 on coolant loss/need for engine replacement in 2019. They had a class action lawsuit in 2012 on EcoBoost engines allowing coolant in cylinders. Ford had a chronic problem with these engines for years but kept selling them. There is a recall for some 2015-2018 Edges and 2017-2019 Fusion/MKZ/Escape/MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L EcoBoost engines. I’m not sure why my 2018 Edge is not part of the recall, since the engine has failed per TSB 19-2346. The problem was diagnosed by a certified mechanic, diagnosis attached. I filed a case (#[XXX]) with Ford Customer Service, who denied any responsibility because my extended powertrain warranty (which I believe lasted until 100,000 miles) expired 3 months before the engine failure was diagnosed. I also wrote a letter (attached) to Ford Consumer Affairs, which remains unanswered. A check engine light appeared just days after Ford performed a routine 60,000 mile service. Ford reported no problems and did not indicate that our vehicle was at risk under of TSB 19-2346, even though this TSB and problems with the 2018 Ford Edge have been known about by Ford since at least 2019 when the TSB was issued. In addition to the check engine light, we started losing/and replacing small amounts of coolant, which we attributed to a hose leak. Ford replaced the shift cable bushing in Sept 2022. Within months, I experienced symptoms consistent with the original defect, including gear engagement issues, especially on inclines. One day, after shifting into reverse in a parking lot, the car rolled forward. I had to slam the brakes to avoid hitting another vehicle and feather the gas to reverse. These issues continued. Despite multiple service visits and reporting concerns, the dealership failed to document the problem. In Sept and Nov 2024, I again contacted the dealer. On Dec 18, 2024, they finally provided a loaner and inspected the vehicle. A full teardown revealed internal damage: metal debris in the solenoid body, worn sun gears, and failed clutch components—consistent with long-term gear misalignment. Ford has offered partial financial help but refuses to cover the full cost, leaving me with over $1,300 out-of-pocket despite raising concerns during the warranty window. As of June 16, 2025, the vehicle is still disassembled and remains in the dealership’s service bay with no firm repair date. I have been without my personal vehicle for six months. I respectfully request NHTSA to: Investigate whether recall 22V413 repairs are failing prematurely or inadequately prevent long-term damage. The vehicle would chug and sputter when started up and had trailing white smoke from the exhaust. The garage reset the code and replaced the spark plugs. 2 weeks later the engine started chugging again on start up, with white smoke and a smell of burning coolant. We took it to our mechanic locally who found coolant leaking into the cylinder. He reset the code and recommended we take it to the dealer. When I got the vehicle back, I checked the coolant to find that it was excessively low, presumably from it leaking into the cylinder for an unknown amount of time. We researched online and found that the occasion of coolant leaking into the #2 cylinder is a common problem with an incredibly large range of affected vehicles, and that the solution is to replace the engine. When I spoke to the dealership and described the problem, they confirmed that the only solution was an engine replacement and that it was routine for them. They quoted me $11,000 for the repair.

My vehicle has 47K miles on it as the vehicle sat in the garage for 2 years ( 2019/2020) during COVID, it was never used. With the powertrain warranty being within 60K miles, I am not qualified for the warranty as it is more than 5 years old as per Ford dealership. I am worried, that it could be very dangerous, as the engine could catch fire, if left untreated and I hope Ford acknowledge this known issue and not have their customers drive this faulty engine to end up into any disastrous issue with engine fires!!.

I was able to get an appointment @ the local dealership, they diagnosed it as having a cracked block by cylinder #3 causing coolant to enter the cylinder. This vehicle just turned 80k miles and was service for the same thing 6 months prior, same cylinder. There was no mention of a common problem with Ecoboost design flaws until the Service Advisor shared the info with me. A new engine had to be replaced @ a cost of almost $8000. A 2018 vehicle with a perfect maintenance record and only 80k miles should be needing a total engine replacement. Ford should back their products. I essentially bought a used Edge according to Blue Book and in reality bought my car twice.
