A software error may cause the rearview camera to display a blank image, or the image may remain on the display after the backing event has ended.

Risk: A rearview camera that displays a blank image can reduce the driver's view behind the vehicle. A rearview image that continues to be displayed after the vehicle is shifted out of reverse may distract the driver. Both of these situations can increase the risk of a crash.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Bronco Sport and Escape vehicles. The rear brake linings may have been manufactured incorrectly, which can affect braking performance. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems."

Risk: During certain situations, the driver may have to apply more brake pedal force, and the distance required to stop the vehicle may be extended, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Edge, 2020 Lincoln Nautilus and Ford Escape and 2021 Lincoln Corsair and Ford Bronco Sport vehicles. An inadequate amount of lubricant in the rear drive unit may cause seizure of the rear drive axle.

Risk: If the rear drive unit seizes, there may be a loss of drive and/or a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Grinding noise when turning. Determined noise was coming from rear drive unit due to failed clutches. Had to get rear drive unit assembly and vent line. There appears to be many broncos with this problem.

We brought the car to the dealership for oil change and recall fixes. After picking the vehicle up, the transmission failed the next day. The dealership nor Ford customer service have been any help and claim that they didn’t do anything that could have impacted the transmission. They are wanting us to pay $13k to replace the transmission

I am reporting a serious and recurring issue with the catalytic converter on my 2021 Ford Bronco Sport (1.5L EcoBoost), which has resulted in reduced efficiency and partial blockage, causing exhaust gases to enter the cabin and triggering engine code P0171. My safety and the safety of others have been compromised because exhaust fumes, including carbon monoxide, have entered the cabin, which is particularly dangerous as I am currently pregnant. In addition, the engine experiences RPM fluctuations and revs up on its own, sometimes hesitating during acceleration, creating a risk of loss of control or accidents, and reduced engine efficiency contributes to unpredictable vehicle behavior. The problem has been confirmed by a dealership, which diagnosed the catalytic converter inefficiency and provided a $2,000 replacement quote. This issue has been widely reported among other 2021 Bronco Sport owners, indicating a recurring problem. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership, which ran diagnostics and verified the codes. Prior to the failure, the Check Engine Light illuminated, and I experienced exhaust fumes in the cabin, unusual odors, reduced engine performance, and RPM surges with hesitation during acceleration, first appearing around 80,000. This defect poses not only a serious safety hazard, but also environmental concerns, as the failing catalytic converter increases emissions of harmful gases, including carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and nitrogen oxides, contributing to air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. I respectfully request that this issue be formally investigated by Ford and NHTSA for a possible recall, that consideration be given to goodwill or warranty coverage for affected vehicles, that guidance be provided for the safe operation of vehicles exhibiting this defect, particularly for pregnant passengers or others at risk, and that the environmental impact of this defect be considered during the investigation.

Lots of lights came on and my app sent me two things wrong with it. After having it checked the codes said it was a valve body issue. Replacing the transmission is $4000, and I’m not the first with this problem a friend of mine had the same issue a couple weekend before me.Had two mechanics one of which was from the dealership tell me this was happening a lot! It’s very dangerous especially when you have kids in the car like I did and are having to stop at red lights and such. There were no issues or lights to show warning of this happening either.

The driver was able to pull into a parking lot and noticed white smoke coming from the engine while awaiting tow truck assistance. A local dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The vehicle was diagnosed with engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified on the failure and was waiting to make a decision on what assistance to provide. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

SERVICE BRAKES

While driving, the brake pedal suddenly required extreme pressure to stop the vehicle safely. I pulled over and parked in a parking lot. Upon opening the hood, I heard a hissing sound. During inspection, I found that the brake booster vacuum hose had broken at the check valve connection near the brake fluid reservoir. A temporary fix restored brake assistance. With the resulting significant loss of brake assist, I was forced to apply near full body weight on the brake pedal to slow and stop the vehicle. This could have easily resulted in a serious crash if traffic conditions were different. The issue has not yet been inspected by a dealer or any others, but the vehicle and the failed component are available for inspection upon request. No warning signs, symptoms, or lights were experienced or observed before the hose failure.

Upon starting the vehicle, brakes were extremely hard to press down and barely responded. A great deal of effort was needed to bring the car to a stop at below 5 miles an hour. If I had been driving instead of pulling out of a parking lot, this could have caused a significant accident.

The component is the fuel injector, which is a part of the engine's fuel delivery system. According to the recall notice from Ford, this component has the potential to crack. The component is known to be defective and has been inspected by a Ford dealership service department upon my request and was told there's no solution as of yet by Ford. ‚ÄãMy family's safety, including that of my toddler who is a daily passenger, is at significant risk due to the potential for an underhood fire. The recall notice explicitly states that a crack in the fuel injector could lead to a fuel leak, and "liquid fuel and or fuel vapor that accumulates near a sufficiently hot surface may ignite resulting in an underhood fire, increasing the risk of injury." This places my family at risk every time we operate the vehicle, as the threat of a fire is present with no permanent solution available. Yes, the problem has been confirmed by a Ford dealer service center in Montebello, CA. On a specific date (August 16th, 2025), I took the vehicle in to inquire about the recall. The service department confirmed that my vehicle is included in the recall but also stated that Ford does not yet have an official solution to fix the issue. Yes, the vehicle and the recall issue have been inspected by the manufacturer's representative, a Ford dealer service center. The dealer verified the recall issue and confirmed that the permanent repair is not yet available, leaving the safety defect unaddressed. There have been no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem (such as a check engine light or smell of gas) at this time. The complaint is based on the official safety recall notice from Ford and the fact that a known and severe safety defect exists without a remedy. The risk is present despite the lack of a visible symptom or a complete failure at this time.

I have a 2021 Bronco sport Big Bend with only 27,000 miles on it. it I started to notice a binding sensation and accompanying noise from the rear of the vehicle when making sharp low speed turns. I took it to the dealership and they thought it was a brake problem but nothing was found from this inspection and the noise persisted. Then I took it in and had the rear differential inspected and found that the axle retaining clip is broken or has fallen off and the axle is pounding on the retaining pin. The Tech told me that this is a very common problem with Bronco sport Big Bends and requires replacement of the entire differential and the axel shaft, this is a four thousand dollar repair on a lightly used vehicle with low miles. The dealer says there is a national back order on these parts as this is such a common problem with this model.

Vehicle chutters especially turn low speed turns and after stopping and making turn. You can feel vibration in the steering wheel and can be jerky turning. I have read of multiple other reports of this happening to vehicles and there is a TSB (24-2185)out for the repair. Ford knows about it and should be liable for the fix.

Parked my car, came back to it and it would not engage in gear. Put it in reverse and it will not go. Put it on forward and it would go. After a little bit it would not engage even if I put the car in reverse or forward. Car did not give any indication of transmission issues at all. No weird sounds or rough gear. Flushed transmission fluid (black color) and got original ford trans fluid in it. It engages but it is rough and not driveable. Car did not give any indication of transmission problems at all before the issue. Transmission is bad.

Upon researching online, I found that numerous other owners of 2021 Bronco Sports have reported the same clogged AC drain issue resulting in internal leaks and electronic malfunctions. This appears to be a systemic design flaw and should be investigated for safety recall consideration. I am submitting this complaint for documentation and to request that NHTSA review the frequency and severity of this failure, especially given the risk of electrical failure while driving. Component/System Failure: The air conditioning (AC) system drain became clogged, causing water to leak inside the vehicle cabin. This leak led to corrosion, mold/mildew buildup, and multiple electrical system failures, including loss of power steering, a dead battery, and numerous dashboard warning lights. The AC system and the resulting damage are available for inspection upon request. Safety Risk: The electrical failures caused by the leak created a serious safety hazard. Loss of power steering and critical electrical systems while driving could cause loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of an accident. I experienced a full loss of battery power with my 2021 Ford Bronco Sport, which I later learned is related to an open recall (Ford Recall #25S02– related to 12V battery defect). Prior to receiving the recall notice, I paid out of pocket to replace the battery after the vehicle failed to start. I brought the issue to my local Ford dealer. At this point, they removed the battery I had just purchased and installed another without fully explaining the claim process or giving me written confirmation that the claim was filed. I escalated the issue to Ford Corporate, and was told the dealership service manager has approval authority. However, I remain without confirmation of reimbursement and the process has been vague and uncooperative. I also had to track down the battery purchased and installed by Roadside Assistance myself. The recall letter clearly states that customers may be eligible for reimbursement for prior battery replacement due to this defect. This entire experience raises concerns about how seriously Ford and its dealers are handling safety recalls and reimbursement obligations.

My vehicle has been jerking/hesitating upon acceleration and at times can barely move going up an incline at low speeds. This has been going on for over a year. Last year I was told by the Ford dealership that it was the RDU recall which did not make a difference, and they replaced the PTO which also did not resolve the issue. I took it back in for more diagnostics this week to the same Ford dealership and was told that the transmission was bad and required replacement - that the fluid was black with metal particles and the level was low although their regular oil changes reflect as recently as two weeks ago that the level and color of the transmission fluid was normal. No warning lamps or messages. I declined the replacement at this time as I feel that it is a manufacturer's defect. It is available for inspection.

Ford claims they have fixed the recall associated with 25S02/25V019 recall for battery issues that cause power loss with this vehicle. On May 25th 2025 this vehicle experienced the issue outlined in this recall (sudden power loss while stopping or slowing). Ford ( specifically C Harper Ford) advised the recall is not open on this vehicle and will not correct the issue. They also state the recall was inspected on April 30th while this vehicle was there for another recall ( related to the fuel injection system). Clearly the recall was not addressed or corrected due to the incident of power loss on May 25th 2025. I believe that Ford, is purposefully not addressing this problem as required under the recall and places my family in danger of death or serious bodily injury by not completing this required work.

The contact stated that while driving approximately 30-40 MPH and pulling out from a side street, the contact did not notice an oncoming vehicle, which crashed into the front driver's side of the vehicle, near the axle. Took it to dealership and they said there was no fix for it. 2 years later, I had a grinding, chatter noise again in back area of car. ENGINE

I took my 21 Bronco Sport Big Bend in to have a different recall fixed and also have an oil change performed. I told the service technician that my coolant level was always low but I could not find any leaks under the vehicle. The service department called me and told me that there was coolant leaking into the cylinders of my engine and I needed the long block replaced. There was no indicator light for the low coolant or any type of engine light that would alert me of an issue. I eventually got a call that they had received parts for my engine replacement. The service technician told me that they are seeing a lot of Bronco Sports have this issue, but I never received a recall notice nor can I find an open recall online for this issue. I believe my family and I were put at risk due to this issue because of the potential for engine failure or damage.

My 2021 Bronco Sport Outerbanks running at 73,000 miles, transmission has given out per Rich Ford Service Dept. I have to spend $10k plus to get it fixed. My warranty ran out. I seen a lot of people having the same issue. Transmission will not go forward or backwards. There should be a recall.

This is a correction and expansion to complaint #11650564. My 2021 Ford Bronco Sport has now experienced complete transmission failure at approx. 86,000 miles, following earlier rear differential (RDU) failure at 60,600 miles. Both major drivetrain components failed well before expected lifespan under normal, mostly interstate driving. The vehicle has never been off-roaded. Transmission symptoms include shuddering, fluttering, failure to engage park, and severe gear engagement issues. Critically, the vehicle would power forward while placed in neutral — it was not rolling. The wheels received torque while in neutral, which should not happen. Reverse gear would also engage forward motion, and drive would fail to engage at all unless I toggled 4WD low. Park would not hold the vehicle, requiring the parking brake to prevent movement. One serious safety incident occurred when stop-start activated at a red light and the car failed to re-engage drive, leaving me stranded in live traffic. In another case, reverse engaged late and suddenly surged backward near a building. I scanned the vehicle using FORScan and found a code for stuck solenoid A (failure to engage park). I asked the dealer to check the valve body — they refused, claiming the transmission was “shot” without verifying the issue. Ford issued SSM 49930, internally on Aug 5 2022 acknowledging these behaviors in this transmission. These are not just mechanical issues — they are dangerous. I respectfully request NHTSA investigate the 8F35 transmission used in the 2021 Bronco Sport.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE

After a few minutes, the vehicle started and we were able to drive it home very slowly on side roads. We took the Bronco Sport to the dealership again and notified them of the multiple trips we had made there to fix this code issue. The dealership did a diagnostic and had a transmission specialist look at the car. The conclusion was that we needed a brand new transmission to the tune of $11K. Additionally, the dealership stated that we likely had rear differential issues as well - the subject of one of the many recalls on this lemon of a vehicle. We have not had the diagnostic performed as we are waiting on Ford to let us know if they will buy back the vehicle. Again, we purchased the car new and it has about 80K miles on it. There is no discernible reason for the transmission to fail on a car this new which has primarily been driven to and from work. After 6 times it finally started and ran good on way home. Later that week, kept having traffic lights in town turn red... constant slow so stop and go. Reporting since my spouse is in a wheelchair and can not walk. This vehicle is only one we have that my spouse can get in due to disability and I am seriously concerned if vehicle stalls out on public highway again it is likely to result in an accident and he gets seriously hurt. Never had a vehicle I felt unsafe to have my family be in before and do not think it is safe for this vehicle be on the highway.

ENGINE

The water pump has been replaced twice already and the water pump needs to be replaced again at 105,000 miles. This will be the fourth water pump this vehicle has. The originally came with, two replacements, and now the one that it needs because it is leaking like the previous three. The turbo charger failed and was burning oil. That was replaced. A month later it is back at the dealership being replaced again

Purge valve went bad, it was causing the vehicle to try to stall and dropping down to very low rim, always happened after fueling and would sometimes hesitate to go when accelerator was pushed. I had it stall on my trying to pull on to [XXX] in Florida from an exit. That could have been very bad. And I've noticed way too many other people online and in forums having the same concern. Do to safety concerns i paid to have mine replaced but do not feel like it should have already went out this soon. The date i included below is for the last incident, this issues started over a year ago and has slowly gotten worse. I hit the start button on my car and it began to flicker lights and start over and over again then it started an electrical fire in the front of the vehicle. We had to quickly disconnect the battery to get it to stop trying to start. I took it to the dealer and they said it was a defective starter. If I didn’t have tools or if my car was in the garage I could have been asphyxiated or my house could have caught on fire.

When I bought my vehicle in 2021. The brakes makes a squeaky noise when backing up. I took to dealer and the mechanic said it was normal his wife have the same car and her Bronco does the same thing. The brakes still makes noise when backing up and it’s year 2025. I’m thinking about going to another brake pad but buying a new vehicle for it to squeak is not right.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

The car went completely dead when I was stopped at a red light. There was no power and I couldn’t put it into park. There was no indicator light nor warning that there was a problem with the battery. This put me into great risk of being hit by another car as traffic started to worsen and cars were trying to go around me. Police came and got me out of the car and because they could not get the car into gear they called and had it towed. I incurred the cost of the tow as well as the cost of the battery and the labor to install it. I tried to get reimbursed from the dealership but they said they couldn’t help me abc suggested instead that I don’t use the auto stop/start because it was draining the battery which caused it to not have enough power to restart at the red light. This was a very frightening experience as it was in another city other than my own and it was just on the other side of a bridge during traffic hour.

Like the other people state. Rear brakes make a moaning noise when backing up. First thing in the morning when trying to back the vehicle out of the garage. I put it in reverse, and it holds like the brakes are sticking. You have to hit the throttle to make the care move and you hear a pop noise like the brakes released. My garage is not on a incline or any kind of slope. We took the car to the dealer and they stated Ford knows about it but there is no fix. You need new brakes and rotors that cost over $800. If Ford knows about it why do I have to pay when they know it's a problem?

One day after trying to remote start the vehicle it didn’t remote start. It was found the vehicle was not in park. This triggered the wrench warning light. Upon investigation by the dealer it was found the PRNDL was not responding. The PRNDL should put the car in park if the driver doesn’t and this time that didn’t happen. Seems like safety issue like the death that happened on a Chrysler vehicle because the car was not in park. My car had 32,000 miles and was only 3.5 years old. Seems this is a common problem when you search it on line.

POWER TRAIN

Clutch A within the automatic transmission failed as well as the water pump casing had a crack in a known weakness at just under 79,000 miles. The water pump has a noticeable leak from a crack in the cast made. The dealership said this is not the first Bronco Sport with the issue and that it is fairly common since Ford has put out a TSB on the issue. The transmission has slipping from clutch A between first and second gear when accelerating under normal conditions. The technician noted it in there report and recommended a transmission replacement and an oil flush. The symptoms are a sudden shift to neutral with a run away engine rev or you can have hard shifting from first to second gear that can also result with a sudden loss of power until the clutch finally engages second gear.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER

Regarding the current recall for my 2021 Bronco Sport. How can Ford say this is still safe to drive if the battery can cut off at any given moment, leaving you stranded on a highway, or anywhere. I expect better from Ford. They should be letting those affected rent a car until the parts are available. This is a safety issue and extremely dangerous. This same thing happened with my third battery (yes, I am on my third battery in 3 1/2 years). I was left stranded, no hazards, no lights, no nothing, windows didn't work, door locks didn't work, it was dark out, and I was alone. My windows were down and I had valuables in the car so I couldn't leave the car. Very dangerous. Yes, I called for help, but it was scary and unsafe. Thank you.

I was unaware of any previous recalls before I purchased my Bronco Sport used. There is an active recall that has no remedy for the battery. I am actively having issues with my fuel system. It was inspected more than once. Diagnostics returned zero issues 3 times and no warning lights. I insisted further inspection this time which revealed bad purge valve, charcoal canister full of fuel, coolant leak resulting in water pump replacement needed. No warning lights. No codes, active or stored. Due to the absence of codes, they will not replace my fuel injectors per customer satisfaction program 22N18. Was not ever informed that recalls 22S73, 22S21, and 21C31 were either inspected or completed on my vehicle as it was not ever disclosed to me and the Ford website only state "scheduled maintenance" was performed. I still cannot obtain documentation of those previous service records so that I may be informed on what could have led to the current issues I am having with this vehicle. I have 3 kids I drive around and do not feel safe putting them in it anymore due to official documents issued by Ford that state my car could either lose power in the middle of driving it, or catch on fire due to a cracked fuel injector.

POWER TRAIN

On 12/18/24 while driving the Bronco Sport, the transmission became very "herky-jerky" while driving on local roads. I was able to get to a safe space when the transmission gave out completely. The vehicle, which was ordered new and purchased in late October of 2021 had 64000 miles on it at the time of this incident. Once it was towed to the dealership they confirmed the transmission was in need of approximately $12K worth of repairs and that there was also a water pump issue that needed addressed.

VISIBILITY:SUN/MOON ROOF ASSEMBLY

Had a software update about 2 months ago from ford and the automatic shifting of the bronco sport badlands 2021 became rougher and rougher at low speeds, causing a jerking of the vehicle. When shifting from a stop the vehicle missed a shift and then continued to make whirring noises at all speeds. Upon returning home & to a stop, the vehicle can no longer engage in reverse. No warning lamps or messages were displayed by the vehicle. No event occurred such as an accident that would impact the transmission either. August 2024 had multiple instances where the Bronco Sport would stall out while driving, had to maneuver to the side of the road, turn the vehicle completely off, and try multiple times to restart the vehicle. Jack Demmer Ford sent a technician to our house to flash the Powertrain Control Module and Body Control Module. We saw the Part 573 Safety Recall Report 24V-267, where these modules were undercharging the battery, causing the stalling of the vehicle. The vehicle stalled out two more times after the update and has continued to run thereafter. On [XXX], Bronco Sport was struck from behind on the driver's side rear tire, car came to rest against the back axle. There was damage to the axle, rear quarter panel, tail light, and aligned rear tailgate. The vehicle battery was disconnected 12-15 times during the work, we would get messages on the app that "Remote features disabled to preserve battery" as they worked on the vehicle. The vehicle was finally ready on [XXX], for pickup. Drove the car approximately 22 miles and parked in the garage. The following morning we went to start the Bronco and there was a loud bang when we pushed the start button, and all electrical features were dead. We had to vacate the vehicle, all the power features were dead, unload, and take another vehicle for travel. When we returned on [XXX], I popped open the hood and discovered battery damage. Battery acid leaked out into a 5-foot puddle on the garage floor, power steering reservoir drained also. [XXX] had Jack Demmer Ford tow the vehicle back to their facility, they charged for inspection and denied any responsibility for battery failure. Had to have the battery replaced so they could fix the rear damage that was not done correctly the first time. This caused another claim to be filed with insurance. Now Ford is recalling Bronco's due to battery concerns. Continuous undercharging of lead battery causes sulfation, shortening battery life. The safety issue that arises from this is that we are emitting more fuel vapors into the atmosphere. Please add recall to cover Badland if they contain same parks as 1.5L!!!! Also the windshield wiper pump did not work. I can not clean the windshield wen needing to see out of it. i have to pull over and clean at local gas station.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Battery failed exactly as described in Ford recall 25S02 NHTSA# 25V019. On 11/1/24 drove vehicle 125 miles home on a return trip and parked car in garage. Morning of 11/2/24, vehicle would not start, battery is dead. Tried to charge battery with external charger, would not take a charge. Called dealer, scheduled appointment for 11/4/24. Morning of 11/4/24, started vehicle with a jump box, took vehicle to dealer. Vehicle would not start when shut off at Dealer. Lucky have made it there, I had shut off the auto restart vie dash button, if I had not shut it off, I would have been stranded at my first traffic stop. Dealer determined it was a failed battery, replaced it at a cost of $510 as vehicle was 2 weeks out of warranty. I reluctantly paid the $510. I was lucky that the vehicle did not start running on that (11/1/25) 125 mile drive, the battery was almost dead at the end of the trip, and of course, it would have stalled when battery got too low. There were in-dash warning messages about low battery near the end of the trip. Ford and the dealership won't reimburse me for the $510. They state that they have to test the battery under the recall, even though that original battery was disposed of by the dealership. Dealership wants to test the 2 month old replacement battery under the recall before they can do anything about a refund. That makes no sense, the replacement almost certainly will test ok.

It was explained to me that the battery was bad and had to be replaced when I took it in for service the next day. A recall was placed on my vehicle yesterday related to battery issues and I suspect my prior battery had the same issue as referenced in the recall. My car at the time was under 40,000 miles.

Complained numerous times about a clunk noise art parking lot speeds Finally on my Ford dealer 7/10/24 they diagnosed TSB 24-2185 and had me pay $433.53 to replace Vent Hose not covered under my powertrain warranty My mileage was 48986 on that date If part was labeled as RDU Vent hose why not covered under power train warranty? The day I was there, they has another Bronco in with this same issue they told me The service department told they wouldn't be surprised if thus became a recall. I don't see any recall to this day for this issue Ford knows about

When you push start after fueling it struggles to turn car on to drive. There is full accessory power but no power to drive the car even when giving it gas. It requires multiple attempts at starting the vehicle and it will tremble and shake once it starts running and stutters as if about to shut off even when you start driving it. Today it powered down again while driving and we avoided and accident but it is becoming dangerous to drive the vehicle due to its unpredictable shutting down.

The vehicle was towed to the dealer and the battery was replaced. The technician inspected the alternator and stated that the alternator could not be replaced since it was fully charged. Tranmission failed at 137k miles. Inspection revealed the tranmission was beyond repair and would have to be replaced. Last maintenance was tranmission fluid change at 95k miles by Ford dealer.
