2024 FLEETWOOD FLAIR Complaints and Recall Information

The 2024 Fleetwood Flair has 3 complaints and 3 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report a burning and exhaust smell shortly after driving. One complaint details an exhaust pipe extension detaching and causing heat damage to the storage compartment door and interior areas, with exhaust fumes entering the cabin through the floor and toilet.

Common Issues
  • Exhaust pipe detachment. An extension on the exhaust pipe becomes disconnected, causing exhaust to discharge underneath the vehicle and generate heat damage.
  • Heat damage to compartments. Plastic, fiberglass, and aluminum components in storage compartments melt or warp due to escaping exhaust heat.
  • Exhaust fumes intrusion. Fumes enter the vehicle’s interior through floor and toilet areas, posing safety and health risks.

There are 3 recalls affecting the 2024 Fleetwood Flair. These recalls involve the vehicle’s structure, exhaust system, and electrical components. The recalls address risks related to detaching overhead cabinets, exhaust tip failures, and electrical outlet safety.

Recalls
  • Overhead cabinet fasteners. (NHTSA recall 24V607000) 4665 vehicles affected. Fasteners on the HappiJac drop down bed’s front overhead cabinet can break, detaching the cabinet. Detached cabinets may distract the driver and increase crash risk. Dealers will inspect and install new hardware free of charge.
  • Exhaust tip detachment. (NHTSA recall 25V121000) 2666 vehicles affected. The engine exhaust tip may detach, letting exhaust fumes enter the cabin and creating a carbon monoxide hazard. Detached tips also pose a road hazard. Dealers will install a clamp on the exhaust tip free of charge. Owners are advised of the recall with no explicit instructions to avoid driving.
  • Patio outlet electrical protection. (NHTSA recall 24V610000) 598 vehicles affected. The exterior patio outlet may lack GFCI protection when powered by generator or shore cord, increasing injury risk from ground faults. Dealers will install a GFCI protection device free of charge.

Owners dealing with repeated repairs, unresolved safety defects, or recall issues involving the exhaust system or structural components may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting a consumer protection attorney could provide guidance on these matters.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:MANIFOLD/HEADER/MUFFLER/TAIL PIPE

On Friday July 18, we left Burbank at approximately 1:15 pm. After driving about 20 miles we began noticing a burning and exhaust smell. Thinking it was due to recent fires in the area we continued on for about another 10 minutes or so with the burning smell increasing. We decided to pull over and investigate when we found a safe place to pull over on shoulder of northbound side of the 14 Freeway near Acton. It was then we noticed the damage to the storage compartment door and interior areas of coach. We immediately turned off engine and called for roadside assistance. It appears that there was some sort of extension on the exhaust pipe that became disconnected and the exhaust was discharging underneath the vehicle and causing heat damage and melting to various plastic, figerglass and aluminum components (black tank was partially melted, storage compartment wall and floors melted, storage compartment door was melted and warped, door frame was warped. Additionally, exhaust fumes were coming up through floor and toilet.
