2022 FIELD VAN SPRINTER Complaints and Recall Information

The 2022 FIELD VAN SPRINTER has 3 complaints and 4 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners frequently report issues with the Active Brake Assist system disabling unexpectedly after extended use of Adaptive Cruise Control on roads with little to no traffic. The feature called Active Distance Assist turns off the cruise control and Active Brake Assist if no vehicles are detected ahead for a period of time.

Common Issues

  • Active Brake Assist failure. The system disables itself after driving with Adaptive Cruise Control on light-traffic roads, removing automatic braking assistance.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control interaction. Active Distance Assist automatically turns off cruise control when no vehicles are detected, which also disables Active Brake Assist, reducing safety features.
  • Sensor calibration ineffective. Dealers attempted to recalibrate sensors but were unable to fix the disabling issue with Active Brake Assist and cruise control.
  • Warning indicators present. Warning lights or messages appear before the Active Brake Assist disables, alerting the driver to the malfunction.
  • Lack of inspection. Complaints note no inspection or confirmation of the fault by manufacturer, police, insurance, or independent service centers to date.

There are four recalls related to this vehicle affecting mechanical equipment and electrical systems, primarily involving the winch and its wireless remote control. The defects pose risks of unintentional winch operation which increases the likelihood of injury.

Recalls

  • Warn Winch wireless remote (NHTSA 23V267000). About 20 vehicles are affected by water entering the handheld remote control causing circuit board corrosion. This corrosion can cause the winch to activate unintentionally, presenting an injury risk. Owners are instructed to inspect the remote for corrosion and disable the wireless function by removing the battery pack. Replacement water-resistant remotes will be provided free of charge once available. Owner notification letters were mailed April 19, 2023.

Owners dealing with repeated system failures or unresolved recall issues should consider their rights under state lemon laws. Consulting with a qualified attorney experienced in consumer protection may help clarify available remedies.

•What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? oActive Brake Assist •How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? oNo assist to stop the vehicle safely •Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? oProblem occurs under a certain condition. Others had the dealers tried to calibrate the sensors without any different in the result. •Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? oNo •Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? oYes •Here the scenarios that repeats. oAfter you drive the vehicle for an extended period with the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) on a road with light to no traffic the "Active Distance Assist" feature that automatically disables the cruise control if it doesn't detect other vehicles in front for a certain period. It is also disabling the Active Brake Assist which I believe one to the safety features and this is the reason I chose this manufacture versus others.
