2016 FIAT 500 Complaints and Recall Information

The 2016 FIAT 500 has 2 complaints and 5 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report sudden engine shutdown and failure to accelerate. One complaint involved the vehicle stopping without warning and multiple fault codes appearing. The vehicle required towing and caused a minor injury to a passenger.

The recalls affect various systems including tires, manual transmission, and labeling for tire inflation.

Common Issues
  • Engine shutdown and acceleration failure. Vehicle suddenly stops and refuses to accelerate with multiple error codes displayed. Requires towing to repair facility.

Five recalls have been issued covering safety and powertrain components, affecting tire pressure monitoring, manual transmission parts, and tire inflation labeling.

Recalls
  • Tire pressure monitoring system. NHTSA recall 24V474000 affected 12,675 vehicles. The TPMS warning light may fail to illuminate, increasing the risk of driving on underinflated tires, which raises crash risk. Dealers will reprogram the TPMS module free of charge.
  • Manual transmission shifter shaft. Recall 19E044000 involved 740 vehicles with CravenSpeed short shifter shafts. Improper manufacture can cause the shaft to break while driving, increasing crash risk. Replacement shifter assembly provided by DLT LLC at no cost.
  • Tire placard labeling. Recall 16V667000 covered 32 vehicles with incorrect spare tire inflation pressure listed on the placard exceeding sidewall maximums. Overinflated spare tires risk sudden failure. Dealers will apply overlay with correct information for free.
  • Temporary/emergency spare tire. Also part of recall 16V667000 for the same 32 vehicles. Incorrect inflation pressure listed may cause spare tire failure and crash risk. Remedy includes corrected placard overlay at no charge.
  • Manual transmission clutch diaphragm spring. Recall 16V302000 affected 39,185 vehicles. Clutch diaphragm spring may fracture, causing inability to shift gears or loss of motive power. Chrysler will install a clutch pedal limiter and switch free of charge.

Owners dealing with repeated repairs, safety defects, or unresolved recall issues with the 2016 FIAT 500 may have rights under their state lemon law and should consider consulting legal counsel for further guidance.

TIRES:PRESSURE MONITORING AND REGULATING SYSTEMS

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2019 Fiat 500 vehicles. The tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) warning light may not illuminate as intended. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 138, "Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems."

Risk: A TPMS warning light that fails to illuminate can result in the vehicle being driven with improperly inflated tires, increasing the risk of a crash.

POWER TRAIN:MANUAL TRANSMISSION:FLOOR SHIFT ASSEMBLY

DLT, LLC. is recalling certain CravenSpeed Fiat Short Shifter shafts sold for use in 2011-2019 Fiat 500 vehicles. The Shifter Shaft may have been improperly manufactured with a through hole for the set screw rather than a blind hole, which may lead to the breakage of the Shifter Shaft.

Risk: If the shifter breaks while the vehicle is in motion, it can increase the risk of a crash.

As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims."

Risk: If the spare tire is used while overinflated, the tire may suddenly fail, increasing the risk of a crash.

ENGINE
