2014 E-ONE QUEST Complaints and Recall Information

The 2014 E-ONE QUEST has 0 complaints and 7 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to various recall campaigns, including electrical system software, suspension components, air bag harness connection, and fire fighting equipment. No independent complaint reports exist beyond these recall notices.

The following recalls address defects in multiple vehicle systems that may impact safety and operational performance.

Recalls
  • Electrical system software. NHTSA recall 14V217000 affected 112 vehicles due to defective software in the Vehicle Input Module which controls brake lights and auxiliary equipment idle speed. Brake lights may illuminate without braking causing increased crash risk, and auxiliary equipment may lose performance. Dealers update the VIM software at no cost. No "Do Not Drive" advisory issued.
  • Front suspension ball joints. Recalls 15V598000 and 17V231000 cover 38 vehicles with loose or separable upper and lower ball joints in the independent front suspension. Loss of steering control increases crash risk. Dealers inspect, clean, and secure ball joints for free. No "Do Not Drive" advisory issued.
  • Air bag harness connection. Recall 15V646000 involves 18 vehicles with disconnected front air bag harnesses at production. The front air bag may not deploy in a crash, increasing injury risk. Dealers inspect and connect the harness, then test the system at no cost. All affected units have been repaired without an owner notification letter.
  • Water pump pressure relief valves. Recall 17V739000 affects 298 vehicles equipped with Hale pressure relief valves. Valve retaining rings may corrode causing valve opening and water pressure loss, which can hinder fire fighting. Dealers install stainless steel retaining rings free of charge.
  • Aerial ladder hydraulic filter. Recall 16V801000 covers 196 vehicles with aerial ladders that may have leaking hydraulic fluid due to a filter design flaw. Fluid leaks can cause loss of aerial device function and increase injury risk. Dealers inspect and replace filters and head assemblies as needed at no cost.

Owners of the 2014 E-ONE QUEST facing repeated repairs, unresolved recall defects, or safety system malfunctions may want to review their rights under state lemon laws for possible protections and remedies.

EQUIPMENT

E-One Incorporated (E-One) is recalling certain 2013-2017 E-One Cyclone II, Quest, Typhoon, 2016 Freightliner M2 112, 2013-2015 International 7400, 2014-2017 International 4400, Freightliner M2 106, 2016-2017 Kenworth T370, and 2015 Kenworth T800 vehicles equipped with Hale pressure relief valves in the water pumps used for fire fighting. Rings securing the valves may corrode over time after exposure to water, causing the ring to fail and the pressure relief valve to open, reducing the water pressure available for fire fighting.

Risk: A reduction in water pressure may hinder fire fighting efforts, increasing the risk of injury.

SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:UPPER BALL JOINT

E-One Incorporated (E-One) is recalling certain 2013-2016 Typhoon and Cyclone II and 2014-2016 Quest emergency vehicles. The ball joints on the independent front suspension (IFS) modules can loosen and separate, leading to a partial loss of steering.

Risk: A separated ball joint can cause a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.

EQUIPMENT

E-One Incorporated (E-One) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Typhoon, Quest, and Cyclone fire trucks manufactured January 1, 2014, to October 11, 2016, and equipped with aerial ladders. Due to a design change, the filter for the aerial ladder may leak hydraulic fluid.

Risk: A hydraulic fluid leak can cause a loss of aerial device function, increasing the risk of injury.

AIR BAGS

E-One Incorporated (E-One) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Typhoon, Cyclone II, and Quest emergency vehicles manufactured October 28, 2014, to August 29, 2015. The affected vehicles may have left the production facility with a harness for the front air bag system disconnected.

Risk: If the air bag harness is not connected to the air bag control system, the front air bag will not deploy in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

SUSPENSION:FRONT

E-One Incorporated (E-One) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Typhoon, Cyclone II, and Quest emergency vehicles manufactured August 2, 2013, to December 16, 2014. The affected vehicles have front independent suspension assemblies that may have loose ball joints which could separate causing a loss of steering control.

Risk: A loss of steering control increases the risk of a crash.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:SOFTWARE

E-One Incorporated (E-One) is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 Emergency One Typhoon, Cyclone II, and Quest Fire Fighting Chassis manufactured March 19, 2013, through April 15, 2014, and equipped with Vehicle Input Module (VIM) part number 508875. The VIM, used to supply programming inputs that monitor and control some vehicle functions such as lights, warning indicators and some interlock functions of the vehicle electrical system, has software that may experience a defect that affects the operation of the brake lights and other electrical operations of the vehicle.

Risk: The VIM software may cause the vehicle's brake lights to be illuminated even when the vehicle is not braking and may prevent the vehicle's ability to raise its idle when auxilliary equipment is being used. If the brake lights are illuminated while the vehicle is moving it could make other motorists think the vehicle is stopping/slowing down and increase the risk of a vehicle crash. If the vehicle cannot raise its idle when auxilliary equipment is being used, equipment such as aerial devices, electrical generators and rescue tools may have reduced performance.
