2008 DODGE SPRINTER 2500 Complaints and Recall Information
The 2008 DODGE SPRINTER 2500 has 1 complaint and 4 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report loss of motive power while driving, sometimes resulting in sudden deceleration that can create hazardous driving conditions.
Common Issues- Loss of motive power. The vehicle unexpectedly loses power and slows down during operation, which occurred at 60 MPH in one report causing the vehicle to decelerate to 40 MPH and nearly crash. The issue was diagnosed as a failed EGR valve near 98,000 miles and required replacement.
The vehicle has four recalls affecting various safety and restraint systems. These recalls involve components such as seat belts and frontal air bag inflators, which pose risks of injury if defective parts fail during a crash.
Recalls- Seat belts. (NHTSA Recall 11V210000) Mercedes-Benz recalled certain 2008-2011 2500 and 3500 Sprinter models with optional three-seat benches that had safety belts not meeting federal standards. Defects include belts that may not lock properly or meet force requirements, increasing injury risk in a crash. Free inspection and replacement of affected belts started July 15, 2011.
- Driver air bag inflator. (NHTSA Recall 16V077000) Daimler Vans recalled certain 2007-2009 Dodge Sprinter 2500 vehicles due to risk that the driver frontal air bag inflator can rupture upon deployment, sending metal fragments into the cabin. This presents a serious injury and death hazard. Free inflator replacements began March 31, 2017.
- Passenger air bag inflator. (NHTSA Recall 17V478000) Certain 2007-2009 Dodge Sprinter 2500 vehicles were recalled for defective passenger frontal air bag inflators which may rupture due to propellant degradation after exposure to humidity and heat cycling. The ruptures may cause metal fragments to strike occupants, leading to serious injuries or death. Dealers replace the passenger air bag free of charge. Recall started September 29, 2017.
Owners dealing with repeated repairs, unresolved defects, or outstanding recall issues may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Those affected should consider consulting with a consumer protection attorney to explore possible remedies.
