2004 DODGE RAM 3500 Complaints and Recall Information

The 2004 DODGE RAM 3500 has 1 complaint and 4 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues related to suspension components affecting vehicle safety. The single complaint involves a structural failure of a critical steering component resulting in costly repairs.

Common Issues
  • Upper control arm failure. The upper control arm cracked, causing a safety violation. Replacement required both control arms and a wheel alignment with a total cost of approximately $473.

Four recalls have been issued affecting steering components and airbag systems. These recalls address potential loss of steering control due to defective parts as well as a risk of airbag inflator rupture in humid regions.

Recalls
  • Pitman arm fracture. NHTSA recall 10E013000 affected 1,500 vehicles. Aftermarket replacement pitman arms could fracture and detach from the steering box causing total loss of steering control. The risk includes potential crashes resulting in injury or death. Fabtech will inspect and replace defective parts free of charge.
  • Tie rod ball stud fracture. Recall 11V350000 involved 242,780 vehicles. The left tie rod ball stud may fracture during low-speed tight turns, risking loss of directional stability in the front left wheel. Dealers inspect and replace tie rods as needed at no cost to owners.
  • Tie rod assembly breakage. Recall 13V528000 affected 706,664 vehicles. Left tie rod assemblies on certain 2003-2008 models may break, which could result in loss of steering control and increase crash risk. Chrysler notified owners to arrange repairs.
  • Front passenger air bag inflator rupture. Recall 14V770000 impacted 250,896 vehicles in high humidity areas. The air bag inflator may rupture upon deployment, sending metal fragments into occupants and causing serious injury or death. Chrysler replaced the inflators free of charge. This recall was later superseded by recall 16V-352.

Owners dealing with repeated repairs or unresolved recall remedies related to steering or safety airbag defects may have rights under their state’s lemon law. They should consider consulting legal resources for further guidance.
