2014 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN Complaints and Recall Information
The 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan has 15 complaints and 4 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners frequently report issues such as unexpected airbag deployment, engine stalling, and malfunctioning sliding doors. Several complaints also mention electrical problems including failure to turn off the engine and dashboard warning lights illuminating incorrectly.
Common Issues
- Unexpected airbag deployment. The airbag or passenger headrest airbag inflates without a crash, hitting occupants unexpectedly and causing injury risks.
- Engine stalls while idling. The engine shuts down at stop lights after RPM drops and shaking is noticed, leaving the vehicle unable to restart immediately.
- Sliding door failures. Rear sliding doors become ajar unexpectedly or fail to latch properly, sometimes requiring manual securing devices.
- Passenger headrest explosion. The passenger side headrest housing breaks apart and deploys as a safety feature without warning, posing an injury hazard if occupied.
- Back hatch opens unexpectedly. The rear hatch can open while driving at low speeds, leading some owners to remove fuses to prevent the issue.
- Ignition and electrical problems. Vehicles fail to turn off after key removal, with hot relays and dashboard lights indicating transmission and ABS faults.
- Dashboard warning lights. The check engine light, tire pressure light, and ABS indicators illuminate incorrectly, sometimes despite no mechanical failure.
- Ticking noises from rear corner. A persistent ticking sound occurs when parked or starting out, suspected to be related to electrical faults but difficult to diagnose.
There are four recalls on the 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan affecting systems such as tire pressure monitoring, electrical switch components, windshield mounting, and fire extinguisher equipment. These recalls address safety concerns including the risk of undetected low tire pressure, potential vehicle fires, windshield displacement during crashes, and malfunctioning fire extinguishers.
Recalls
- Tire Pressure Monitoring System. NHTSA Recall 14V632000 affects 10,390 vehicles due to a software error causing false low tire pressure warnings, masking actual low pressure and increasing crash risk. Dealers will reprogram the TPMS module at no cost.
- Driver door window switch. NHTSA Recall 14V234000 covers 644,757 vehicles with switches that can overheat and cause fire. Dealers will replace the vent window switch free of charge.
- Windshield mounting. NHTSA Recall 16V044000 involves 184 vehicles with expired urethane primer used during windshield installation, risking windshield displacement in crashes. Dealers will replace the windshield free of charge.
- Fire extinguisher equipment. NHTSA Recall 17V824000 affects 61,791 vehicles with Kidde fire extinguishers that may clog or have detachable nozzles causing injury or inoperability. Owners will be instructed to obtain free replacement extinguishers from Kidde.
Owners facing repeated repairs or unresolved safety issues such as airbag deployment failures or critical recalls may have rights under their state’s lemon law. Consulting with an attorney specializing in automotive consumer protection could help clarify potential remedies.

EQUIPMENT
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling various Dodge, Chrysler, and RAM vehicles equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. A list of the affected trailer models is available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V824-0103.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or requiring excessive force to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf
Risk: If the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury in the event of a fire.

VISIBILITY:WINDSHIELD
FCA US LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Chrysler Town and Country, and 2014-2015 Dodge Grand Caravan vehicles manufactured August 16, 2014, to December 5, 2015. The windshield on the affected vehicles may have been installed using expired urethane primer, allowing the windshield to become displaced in the event of a crash. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 212, "Windshield Mounting."
Risk: If the windshield dislodges during a crash, there is an increased risk of occupant injury.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
Chrysler Group, LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2010-2014 Chrysler Town and Country and Dodge Grand Caravan vehicles manufactured August 25, 2010, through October 31, 2013. The affected vehicles may experience overheating of the vent window switch in the driver's door armrest.
Risk: An overheated switch may result in a vehicle fire.
2014 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN
10390 vehicles affected
TIRES:PRESSURE MONITORING AND REGULATING SYSTEMS
Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2014 Chrysler Town and Country and Dodge Grand Caravan vehicles manufactured March 20, 2014, to April 22, 2014, and 2014 Jeep Wrangler vehicles manufactured March 21, 2014, to April 22, 2014. Due to a software error, the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) may fail to learn the locations of the individual sensors while the vehicle is being driven. As a result, the low tire pressure warning light will illuminate, despite the the tire pressures being within specification. Should one of the tires lose air pressure, the driver would not be notified of the change in air pressure. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 138, "Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems."
Risk: If the TPMS light illuminates because the sensors cannot be located, it could mask an actual low tire pressure condition, possibly resulting in tire failure, increasing the risk of a crash.

I have a 2014 Dodge Caravan. The van only has 48 k miles. The battery went bad so I replaced the battery. Then the problem started. 1st the car will NOT turn off. I remove the key and the engine is still running and won't turn off. I had to remove the ASD relay which was very hot. Once I was able to shut down ,now the dashboard shows the car in reverse but it is actually in park and won't come out of gear. The check engine light is on, the tire is low light is on, and the car with tire tracks is on,(abs). I looked up recalls and they have had a recall on the fuelpump relay .

First, the back hatch would just open itself even if you were going 30 miles an hour or under. Had it checked out couldn’t afford the diagnostics so I took out the fuse. Second, there is a ticking in my right back corner. It doesn’t happen when you’re going down the road, but it happens while you’re parked or just starting out. Mechanic friend of mine checked into it we would have to trace the electrical from front to back and again, I cannot afford that. So there’s 135,000 miles on my vehicle now and this happened about six months ago. I forgot there was a place to report it. I’m not very car savvy. Also, I had to replace my entire starting my starter, my alternator, a battery actually too and now I’m going to have to replace the switch for the ignition that’s all happened within one year or less. Just thought somebody should report these each time I fixed an ignition issue, the problem was fixed for at least a month or two and then the next one would happen. Very aggravating.

The passenger side headrest just exploded. It turns out that this is a safety feature that deployed on its own as part of the housing that holds the unit together just apparently broke. Had someone been sitting there, this would have blasted them in the back of the head. There were no warnings or messages. Now I'm concerned the driver side headrest will explode too while I'm driving and I have an exploded passenger headrest thats now not safe for passengers.

My car shuts down while idling at a stop light. Before that happens, the rpm drops down, the car shakes a bit, and then the engine dies. What could be the problem?

Was driving down the highway coming back from Orlando when my air bag light went off. Heard cracking in my head test and all of a sudden it expired and deployed and hit me in the back of the head and almost knocked me out. Made me dizzy and I had my kids in the car. This should not have happend if I was not in a car crash and dodge refuses to fix it. It was faulty without any warning. There are many people this has happend to and the had a extension back in 2024 and to repair them and I never received a letter
