The 2015 CHRYSLER 300 has 4 complaints and 7 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues with the blend door failing and switching temperatures unpredictably. Several complaints involve sudden vehicle shutdowns related to the shifter and ECM module. Steering wheel control problems accompanied by traction control warnings were also reported.
Common Issues
- Blend door failure. The HVAC system switches abruptly between cold and hot air due to faulty blend doors.
- Oil filter housing cracks. The plastic oil filter housing cracks, resulting in immediate oil loss and disabling the vehicle while in traffic.
- Vehicle shutdown while driving. The car completely loses power and displays a "SERVICE THE SHIFTER" message, requiring towing. Repairs to the shifter and ECM shifter module have been attempted multiple times without permanent resolution.
- Shifter and ECM module faults. The ECM shifter module was found to have contaminants and connectivity problems causing intermittent shutdowns after several costly repairs.
- Steering failure. The steering wheel fails to turn as intended, often accompanied by traction control warning lights. The issue has occurred multiple times including in wet conditions, but has not been diagnosed or resolved.
Seven recalls affect this vehicle involving electrical systems, air bag inflators, powertrain control modules, wiring, cruise control, and axle components. These recalls address potential safety hazards affecting vehicle control, airbag deployment, and electronic system vulnerabilities.
Recalls
- Radio software vulnerability. (NHTSA 15V461000) Affects 1,416,903 vehicles including the 2015 Chrysler 300. Radios have software vulnerabilities allowing remote access to vehicle systems. This could increase crash risk. Owners receive a USB drive or dealer update to eliminate the issue.
- Passenger air bag inflator. (NHTSA 19V018000) Affects 1,413,222 vehicles. The passenger frontal air bag inflator may explode upon deployment, risking serious injury or death from metal fragments. Inflators will be replaced free of charge.
- Powertrain control module defect. (NHTSA 18E053000) Affects 1,930 vehicles. Cruise control may fail to disengage due to a short circuit, causing unintended acceleration or maintained speed. Dealers will update software or replace modules for free.
- Cruise control software and wiring defect. (NHTSA 18V332000) Impacts 4,815,661 vehicles including the Chrysler 300. A short circuit may prevent cruise control from shutting off. Owners must stop using cruise control until software updates are installed. Dealers will perform a free software flash. Instructions include applying brakes firmly and shifting to neutral if cruise control cannot be turned off.
- Front driveshaft bolts. (NHTSA 17V097000) Affects 69,298 AWD models. Front driveshaft bolts may loosen causing loss of motive power and increased crash risk. All front driveshaft bolts will be replaced free of charge.
Owners faced with repeated repairs related to sudden shutdowns or unsafe vehicle control, or those affected by unresolved recall issues, may have rights under state lemon laws. Consulting a qualified attorney can help clarify available remedies.

This issue has been going on since February 2024. The vehicle will completely shutdown while driving ( no matter what speed I'm going ) it will say SERVICE THE SHIFTER and stop. The first time this happened I took (towed bc vehicle willl have no power since this a SAFTEY issue ) the Vero beach Chrysler dealership the vehicle to Commuter Cars in Port St Lucie which is the dealer I purchased the car from. They kept the vehicle for 2 weeks. I paid 644$ they said they replaced the shifter and that was the problem. 2 weeks later the same thing happened while driving , I took ( towed )the car to Chrysler . Chrysler charge me 200$ and said there was nothing wrong it was the safety recalls. 5 months later it happens again I take the car to Chrysler they charged me 1000$ and said it was some type of connecter . A month later it happens again I (towed) it to chysler they said the ECM shifter module had dried up coffee on it and they wiped it off and its working fine. They charge me 445$ said it needed a battery. Now it has happened again 2 months later and they are just now saying my ECM SHIFTER is bad. The service manager was rude and disrespectful. I have our conversation recorded. I said WHY am I just now knowing this after spending thousands of dollars towing this vehicle back and forth. My son and I could have been in a major accident because the car shuts completely down while driving. They never once check this and the car has been to them 4 times.
