2014 CHRYSLER 200 Complaints and Recall Information

The 2014 CHRYSLER 200 has 5 complaints and 3 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report the vehicle shutting down without warning while driving, causing loss of power steering and braking, and sometimes locking the steering wheel. Other reported issues include uncommanded horn activation and intermittent windshield wiper failure.

Common Issues

  • Unexpected shutdown. The vehicle shuts down while driving without any dashboard warnings, causing loss of power steering and braking, and occasionally locking the steering wheel.
  • Uncommanded horn activation. The horn sounds randomly without driver input, linked to electrical system issues.
  • Windshield wiper failure. Wipers intermittently stop working, impairing visibility during use.
  • Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) failure. The TIPM was diagnosed as needing replacement in stalled vehicles; the horn is connected to this module.
  • Manufacturer response. Owners report the manufacturer acknowledges the issue but lacks parts to repair it and provides no assistance.

There are three recalls concerning safety systems affecting the 2014 Chrysler 200. These recalls address a defect in the Occupant Restraint Control (OCR) module, which impacts the deployment of airbags and seat belt pretensioners, increasing risk in a crash.

Recalls

  • Occupant Restraint Control module (OCR). NHTSA Recall 16V668000 affects 1,435,625 vehicles including the 2014 Chrysler 200. The OCR module may short circuit, preventing frontal airbags, side airbags, and seat belt pretensioners from deploying during a crash. This defect increases injury risk. Chrysler will notify owners and replace the OCR module free of charge. Interim letters were sent in October 2016, with recall repairs beginning August 2017. No "Do Not Drive" or "Park Outside" advisory issued.

Owners dealing with repeated shutdowns, electrical failures, or unresolved recall repairs may have rights under state lemon laws. Consulting legal resources or a consumer protection attorney could help address ongoing safety defects or repair difficulties.

the automobile will shut down when driving uncommanded, when it does this you lose power steering and braking and sometimes locks the steering wheel. the horn sounds uncommanded randomly. the windshield wipers will intermittently not work. have researched the problem and have found this issue is common, with this year and make of vehicle. i have contacted the manufacturer and they have been no help. they state they know there is an issue but they do not have parts to fix the issue. when it shuts down you do not get any lights or notice on the dashboard. this puts the driver and passengers at risk and other drivers. the manufacturer stated on the phone its basically my problem and since they do not have parts to repair it i'm on my own, on finding the part, most likely refurbished
