Our [XXX] is able to bend open (not push the clam/button) but fold the two clips so that it makes a V facing opposite of him where the chest straps meet in the middle and opens up the clip completely detaching it from itself. He often opens this chess clip to get out while we are driving if our children were not in the car with him to prevent him from getting out, he would be out of this car seat. We’re also extremely concerned that if we ever got into an accident that the chest clip would open. We’ve never spent so much on a car seat and it not be reliable and a complete safety hazard. We have three Chicco Fit360 rotating convertible car seats. I have already put a request in with chicco to replace all three chest clips because the magnetic locking mechanism has failed in all three seats. Rather than pushing the release buttons to release the chest clip, all someone needs to do is put their finger behind the clip and it will come open. This means that we cannot safely use any of these three car seats until a working part is received. A Norwalk, CT police officer who is also the town's car seat installation specialist inspected the seat and prompted me to put in this complaint. I can't put a video in the attachments (format not supported), but I do have one available. Serial numbers / model numbers attached for 2 of 3 the car seats.

The locking mechanism, the vechile was park we put the child in to turn it rear facing and it wouldn’t lock into place, so we turned it forward facing and it still wouldn’t lock into place. The child’s seat will not lock into position. Then we noticed where the lock off is the plastic is bent upward from the seat belt itself. The chest clip is also Magnetic and had to be replaced all ready by manufacturer due to it not latching. This will not let me upload the video

The chest clip does not stay fastened. It comes unfastened with a very slight amount of pressure.

The chest clip unbuckles without using the button by simply reversing the magnetic motion. It could become unbuckled in the event of a crash.

Unknown as to what exactly happened, but my husband put my daughter in her car seat buckled her and was just fine. We arrived to our destination no more than 15 minutes later and her chest clip buckle had busted apart. I do have video of the chest clip and how it was apart, however, as soon as I get the new piece and I will not have it to show due to needing the car seat. I do have video of the incident right after I noticed it and other videos showing the parts and pieces. My daughter ended up having the pieces that you press together to unlock the magnetic chest clip apart in her mouth. The magnet circle was still in the chest clip keeping it closed and locked in place. However, it very easily could have came open and out and her eat the magnet. I have contacted the manufacturer and she let me know that other car seats have had the same problem, but there is no recall. She just said she will send me a replacement piece.

This seat requires a “key” (the end tail of the adjuster strap) to be inserted into the base in order to remove the seat. The key was inserted, the lock was depressed, and I still could not remove the seat from its base. My husband and I managed to force it off of the base, then discovered that the manual (appropriately stored in the slot directly below the lock) had gotten wet due to snow coming off of our preschooler’s boots. Water must have traveled down the base and collected on the manual - which then swelled up and got stuck in the unlocking mechanism, forcing it to remain unlocked, but not enough to release the seat from the base. It was difficult to remove the manual, and pieces of paper remained trapped in the locking mechanism. We needed to remove them with toothpicks and a butter knife, before we were able to get the lock to re engage and the key to work once more. Once again - manual was stored appropriately. Seat was never saturated and had no spills on it - but manual was soaked and covered in dirt. We assume it must’ve been from her shoes (she still rearfaces) as it couldn’t have been anything else.

Chest clip is magnetized to assist with closing the clip - my clip does not stay latched shut, pops open at a slight push. I have another one of these seats, manufactured at a later date, and the chest clip needs the buttons pushed to open, so I know this is incorrect. Chicco does not feel the need to replace the seat, said they will send me a new retainer clip. If there was an option to attach a video to this complaint, I would.
