2019 CHEVROLET TRAX Complaints and Recall Information
The 2019 CHEVROLET TRAX has 22 complaints and 3 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues with the turbocharger causing reduced acceleration and stalling, as well as problems with the air conditioning and blower motor. Several complaints involve the check engine light illuminating alongside driveability loss.
Common Issues- Turbocharger failure. Multiple owners report the turbocharger underboosting with diagnostic code P0299, leading to loss of power, reduced acceleration, and engine stalling without warning, sometimes requiring the vehicle to be turned off for a period before driving can resume.
- Check engine light activation. The check engine light often comes on with various error codes, including cylinder misfires and evaporative emission control system faults, sometimes related to purge valve or ignition coil issues.
- Water intrusion in ignition coil. Water found in coil holders causes ignition misfires and leads to recurring coil and spark plug replacements, with some owners linking the issue to recalls on purge valve and ignition coil systems.
- Blower motor failure. Complaints describe the blower motor ceasing to function, often due to defective climate control fan resistors or wiring problems, resulting in loss of windshield defogging ability and increased safety risks.
- Burning odor from A/C system. Owners detect burning smells associated with air conditioning components, caused by burned connectors, resistors, and blower motor wiring, with repeated replacements failing to resolve the problem.
- Vehicle stalling on roadways. Some reports describe vehicles slowing and nearly stopping without warning while driving, accompanied by traction control and check engine lights turning on but not blinking.
- Coolant leaks. Vehicle owners report persistent coolant loss despite replacing the coolant pump, with dealers unable to identify the leak source during inspections.
- Fire incident. One vehicle caught fire while parked, causing total loss and property damage; no cause was identified and no warning indicators were reported prior to the fire.
- Instrument cluster failure. The main display screen for speed, mileage, and tire pressure is reported completely black, impairing the ability to monitor vital vehicle information.
- Fuel economy decline. Check engine light accompanied by poor fuel mileage linked to evaporative emission control system malfunctions requiring part replacement at certified dealerships.
Three recalls affect the 2019 CHEVROLET TRAX, impacting front suspension components and air bag systems. These recalls address risks related to steering control and airbag deployment.
Recalls- Front lower control arm. NHTSA recall 19V312000, affecting 112,958 vehicles, involves improperly welded joints in one or both front lower-control arms that may break, causing partial separation. This can lead to wheel toe-out, impairing handling and increasing crash risk. Dealers inspect and replace affected control arms free of charge.
- Air bag restraint control module. NHTSA recall 18V774000 affects 12 vehicles and concerns the Sensing Diagnostic Module (SDM) possibly remaining in manufacturing mode. This prevents airbag deployment in a crash, increasing injury risk. Dealers reprogram the module to the correct mode at no cost to owners.
Owners dealing with repeated turbocharger failures, unresolved safety-related complaints, or impacted by recalls involving key safety systems may have rights under state lemon laws. Consulting an attorney familiar with consumer protection and lemon law is advisable for those facing ongoing repair issues or safety defects.

SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:LOWER BALL JOINT
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2017-2019 Chevrolet Trax vehicles. A joint in one or both of the front lower-control arms may have been improperly welded. An improperly welded joint may break, resulting in the partial separation of the lower-control arm from the vehicle.
Risk: A partial separation of the lower-control arm from the vehicle could cause the attached front wheel to toe outward, impacting the vehicle's handling and steering and increasing the risk of crash.

AIR BAGS
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2019 Buick Encore, Chevrolet Spark, Traverse, and Trax vehicles. The Sensing Diagnostic Module (SDM) on these vehicle may not have been turned off of "manufacturing mode," preventing the air bags from deploying in the event of a crash.
Risk: If the air bags do not deploy in the event of a crash, it can increase the risk of injury.

The screen that tells you all information on vehicle like; speed, miles on vehicle, tire pressure, oil, etc. is 100% broken. It’s a black screen. Car has been an issue since I got it with this. How am I supposed to know if my oil is getting low without opening the hood and checking manually? I’m not a very tall person so I can not access this part of my car.

The turbocharger in this vehicle cracked at around 50,000 miles and my mechanic predicts it will happen again after another 50,000. This makes the vehicle unable to accelerate at unpredictable times, making the safety of the driver of the vehicle, as well as others on the road, compromised. My mechanic believes this is a common problem with GM vehicles of this engine size. Please advise. Thank you.

Turbocharger was replaced in October 2024. Now it is bad again as confirmed by the dealership. Check engine light was on. They had it in their repair shop and did a diagnostic test. Car stalled in the middle of the highway. The 2017 & 2018 Trax with the same engine have a recall for the turbocharger. The dealership would not honor the parts warranty because they said it was low on oil. No check oil light came on.

October 2024 the turbocharger was replaced. A few weeks ago check engine light came on. Bad turbocharger again while I was on a highway the car stopped running. Dealer said they will not replace it under the parts warranty. They said it was 3 quarts low on oil and I need to show receipts for last 3 oil changes. From previous times there they knew my son is a mechanic & did oil changes. They wanted me to call my son to ask him how much oil he put in üôÑ after looking online it is a very common problem with the Chevy turbochargers. It will but an excessive amount of oil and cause it to be black and sludgy. I emailed the general manager. He never responded. I also filed a complaint with GM and consumer protection. When they replaced it in October it was still under the extended warranty. It is now over the 100,000 miles. However, I think a turbocharger should last more than 6 months. I could have been killed on the highway while broken down due to a part they know is defective. Instead they treated me like trash. It is not the first time they have done this to me. The car already has a new radiator, transmission, faulty turbocharger, and something with the valves was fixed. The car is a lemon. I just want them to be held accountable since they know this is a common occurrence with the Chevy turbochargers

The 2016 through 2024 Chevy Trax all have an issue with the climate control fan resistor. It burns out on a regular basis. Very dangerous because as you can see in the pictures it got very hot. It's a bad design, the heat sink is not adequate to hold the voltage and or the motor is too small or bomdined. It's a serious issue that almost every Chevy Trax owner is experiencing. Please we really need your help to investigate this. My daughters drives this car and I need it to be safe. We only owned the car a month before this happened and someone already changed the fan motor and resistor before we got it. I turned on the vehicle and the check engine light came on *NOT BLINKING* for the first time. The traction control light also came on after a few minutes of driving. About a minute later, the vehicle began to slow from 40 to a near-complete stop in the middle of a busy road. No blinking lights or alerts. I pulled the vehicle into a parking lot and parked. The vehicle began shaking slightly. I turned off the vehicle for about 15 minutes or so and was able to drive back home with the check engine light still on. I called to have the vehicle towed to a dealership.

Our problem is with the blower motor not working. There is service bulletin released from Chevy MC-10155050-9999 There is an issue with temperature control cable causing some kind of electrical issue with the fan temperature speed setting. The fan does not operate causing fogginess onto pure on our windshield and unable to operate the car without having driving visibility issues. Which can cause an accident or worse death. Please can you look into this? Thank you [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

My check engine light came on after filling up with gas, after checking the purge valve cantilever was bad, I bought it and had licensed mechanic who owns his business replace it. Once again the check engine might came on. The error was cylinder 4 miss , I was told either the spark plug or coil was bad. My mechanic said ger coil and if that's not it he would replace spark plugs. I purchased the coil for a four cylinder engine because that's the only way they come. My mechanic took off the part which was broke and upon taking it out.he saw water in the coil holder and told me this was bad. He suggested I look up recalls on my vehicle upon which I found e recall on the puge valve along with a recall on the coil system which described the same problem of water leaking into the engine. After call recall department I was told they would cover the purge valve repair but there was no recall attached to my vin on other problem which should be. I bought the car with 28000 miles on it and have less than 44000 on it now. It should be covered under thus recall I have done all maintenance required and don't put many miles on it. I am a retired individual living on a budgeted income and thus problem should be covered under recall as it is the same problem as others have had. My
