The "shift to park" alert keeps coming on even when car is in park gear. One has to either put car in reverse and then shift slowly to park more than a few times for it to finally recognize it is in park. Otherwise, one cannot turn car off and brake stiffens and hard to turn car on again. This is frustrating and poses a hazard. This has been ongoing for months.

My 2019 Traverse has approximately 27k miles. I have taken the car in to a Chevy dealership for repair. The car is shuddering at around 20 mph. The dealer told me this is a common issue and after review of hundreds of complaints it appears it is. It is out of warranty by a year. Apparently the issue is likely the torque converter. However GM, requires I do a transmission flush and reprogram followed by driving 500 miles. If it does not work then I have to replace the torque converter. The transmission flush is $980 dollars and a torque converter is quoted at $3,400. If this is a known issue and no fault of the driver it should be covered by GM. Why would I pay 1,000 dollars to then pay another 3,400 for a total of $4,400 dollars for a repair for a car with 27k miles. I feel like this should be a recall based on the number of complaints and cost to buyer. This seems ridiculous. I have agreed that the initial 980 dollars as I have no choice. I am requesting someone look into the GM transmission issues from the 2017 to 2020 year vehicles.

I have been experiencing an intermittent issue where the vehicle displays a “Shift to Park” message, even though the gear shift lever is clearly in the Park position. When this happens, the vehicle will not fully shut off, and I have to repeatedly move the shifter back and forth or restart the vehicle to clear the message. This issue began around January 2024, and it has become more frequent over time. I understand that this is a known defect in GM vehicles, and that GM issued Technical Service Bulletin #19-NA-206 to address it. According to the TSB and owner reports, this problem is caused by a faulty park switch or microswitch inside the shifter assembly, and the solution involves installing a jumper harness and/or replacing the shift control assembly. This is both a functional and safety concern, as the vehicle may not recognize it's in Park and could potentially result in a failure to turn off or secure properly. I’m requesting that General Motors or an authorized dealer perform the recommended repair per TSB #19-NA-206 at no cost, as this is a widely reported manufacturing defect. Please advise how this issue can be resolved as soon as possible. I am attempting at uploading a photo and a video. The system does not allow videos and it is rejecting the photo.

Shift to park issue the car is in park but when I shut the car off it is telling me shift to part on my dash not allowing me to shut my car off all the way at first I was able to just tap the shifter and that worked after a few weeks I had to keep restarting my car and try to get the shift to park to go away and for the car to shut off all the way. I finally was able to get it into the dealership where I showed them a photo on my phone what it was doing the said even with the picture they would still have to running a diagnostics on it charging me $160 for along with the repair I feel they know the issue we should not have to pay for diagnostics test

On [XXX], my 2019 Chevrolet Traverse (VIN [XXX] ) experienced a complete transmission failure. The vehicle began to hesitate, jerk during acceleration, and then completely lost the ability to shift or drive. It had to be towed, and the dealership confirmed that the transmission must be replaced. This is extremely concerning because GM previously issued Recall 20V668000 involving missing bolts in the start-stop accumulator of the transmission, which can cause fluid leaks and loss of propulsion—a potential safety hazard. Although my VIN does not show this recall as active, the symptoms and failure seem directly related to this known defect. I am requesting NHTSA investigate whether this recall should be expanded or reopened to include more affected vehicles. In addition to the transmission failure, I have had to replace the purge solenoid valve three times due to persistent check engine lights and fuel system issues, which suggests deeper reliability issues with emissions and vapor management. Lastly, there is now a hole in the exhaust pipe, which is affecting performance and may pose a safety or environmental concern due to potential carbon monoxide exposure. These multiple powertrain and emissions-related failures within the same vehicle raise serious concerns about the long-term safety, reliability, and manufacturing quality of the 2019 Chevrolet Traverse. I respectfully request that NHTSA investigate this model year and VIN range further. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Upon shifting to park, an error message prompts us to "shift to park". The shifter is in park position, however the vehicle says it is not. The Chevy dealer recreated the issue and advised to repair because it will lead to not being able to turn off the engine, or not being able to start the engine, or it will drain the battery. Any of the above could lead to a safety issue depending on where the failure could occur. I had the veicle repaired at the expense of $501.29.

The Shifter Control Assembly keeps malfunctioning 3 times in the last 4 years on our 2019 Chevy Traverse. When my wife puts the shifter in Park and proceeds to shut down the vehicle, the Traverse will not recognizes that she is in park already, and will not let her shut off the vehicle. She must then reverse and forward the care several times until the sensor or solenoid engages and recognizes it is in park. This creates a dangerous and frustrating situaiton. The dealership has confirmed this is an ongoing inssue with the Traverse, and Chevy Customer service also confirmed on the phone that this is a weel known issue and she was not sure why they did not recall or take care of this issue already. Official problem is "Internal Failure to Shifter/Solenoid Assembly". This has caused issues 3 times and our vehicle is not even at 90K miles. This is not a wear ant tear part, but a core functional item that should not go bad repeatedly in such a short period of time on a newer vehicle. Chevy Customer care has encouraged me to file this complaint and get this on record and have the NHTSA begin to work with the manufacturer.

The transmission shutters and malfunctions at various times during driving. This puts not only the driver and passengers at risk but other vehicles and drivers on the road because it’s an abrupt malfunction. At one point it failed In the middle of traffic and we couldn’t move. I have had the issue diagnosed by a transmission shop. They diagnosed it as a failing transmission, which is common. They told us with these nine speed transmissions, and Chevy traverse. They also advised that it the cost is $10-$15,000 to repair. And they say they have a lot of experience with these failing. Which is why we believe it should qualify for a recall. My vehicle is available for inspection at any time. I was told over the phone by a Chevy dealership that that was the likely caused by just hearing the symptoms over the phone because they’ve had experience with so many failures like this. During the failure in traffic my check engine light showed up and there was an error shown but it disappeared when I restarted the vehicle and failed to take Note of what it was.

Shift to Park message on the dash when attempting to turn the vehicle off (in park). Known issue for GM vehicles and safety issue because you can't turn the vehicle off or lock it and it continues to get progressively worse to the point you can't leave the vehicle, and I am getting worried the vehicle may not actually be in park. This is a known issue that costs around 1000 to fix and should have been corrected when it was discovered years ago to prevent issues with the vehicle.

When I shift into park and try to turn car off, I get a warning message saying shift into park. It takes several retry attempts of up to 1 hour to get car computer to register it is in park. I can't leave car until it stops this for fear of it rolling as this did start rolling once already.

When turning off the vehicle, a message appears on the console 'shift to park' even though the vehicle is already in park. This happens many times over and restarting and shifting again doesn't seem to help alleviate the issue. An increase in the frequency of these events has caused concern. According to research, it's happened to many people who own our make and model.

In 2020 or 2021 my car started annoying not recording that is was shifted into park. I got it fixed in Spring, Tx. Recently, my vehicle has started saying it needs to be shifted into park every single time I try to park. This really should be covered under power train warranty. Actually it should be recalled because it is all over the message boards.

When I shift into park the vehicle is fully stopped and in park, but after I shut the vehicle off it beeps and the dashboard informs me I need to “shift to park”. The vehicle will continue to beep and won’t lock properly until I mess with the shifter enough to get it to register that I’m in park, sometimes taking minutes and multiple restarts. This seems to be a common issue in this vehicle based on a simple Google search, which tells me this is a manufacturer issue and should be recalled. I’m worried the whole shifter is going to malfunction. This is a safety issue and has caused me to almost be late in many instances because I can’t leave my vehicle.

One year ago the check engine light came on. Diagnosis stated EVAP system leak. Replaced a bad purge valve.now almost a year later the engine light comes back on car also started struggling shifting and shift to park would come on when car was already in park. Diagnosis states a large leak in EVAP system, smoke test determined leak was coming from the fuel canister. Canister was replaced and within two trips engine light came back on and car continues to struggle shifting as well as having a rough idle. Another diagnostic test reported bad fuel sensor. 2019 traverse seems to have a lot of EVAP system issues and have been told as well as read that this is a trending issue with this vehicle. With each diagnosis report it states it would fail fuel omission.

On this 3 row SUV, the middle row has a bench seat vs captain seats in some models. In order to let passengers in the 3rd row, you must lean the middle row end seats up. When doing this from the left side of the vehicle, the middle seat in the middle row's seatbelt buckle falls back a little. So then when you lean the seat back after leaning it forward to let passengers in the 3rd row, the buckle gets caught up and over time, internal mechanisms inside the buckle break to where you can not fasten the seatbelt into the buckle any more. This happened while we were in a trip and had no choice but to ride back home with one passenger who didn't have a seatbelt to wear.

I can't leave car until it stops this for fear of it rolling or running battery down. There are recalls for this for years before/after 2019, but not 2019. Wondering why this is. Was at dealer before for this and they couldn't find problem. Going in again next week.

Frequently receive warning message “Shift to Park” while the car is already at a complete parked state. You have to engage brake and wiggle the shifter to allow car to shut off. Another issue, the car display comes on and the car alarm beeps regarding the Stabilitrak. This happens on colder days usually below 40 degrees. Dealership wants $200+ to evaluate but states common concern they receive.

The power train on 2019 Chevy Traverses are horrible! There was a recall back in 2023 that caused me to get a replacement transmission. It hasn’t even been a full 2 years and the transmission is out AGAIN! Even with recent safety issues for the emissions purge valve and transmission defects on these cars, NO ONE HAS INITIATED ANOTHER RECALL FOR THE POWER TRAIN SYSTEM. This is frustrating, inconveniencing, and infuriating. I hope GM makes this right!

Periodically over the last 2 weeks my 2019 Chevrolet Traverse AWD has shown the "Shift to Park" message on the display. I took it to my local Chevy dealer about a week ago, after I was in the Walmart parking lot and it happened again. The dealer scheduled an appointment to check the part number yesterday. When I went to leave my car at the dealer's lot on New Year's Day for the scheduled appointment, I couldn't get the vehicle to shut down at all. I tried driving around the building and lot for about 10 minutes and tried to park in different level spots. I finally gave up and left it in a position that I figured they would be able to charge the vehicle, because a warning buzzer goes off as long as the "Shift to Park" message displays. I worried leaving the vehicle in the dealer's lot, not knowing for sure if the car would roll away into their new cars, because it might not be in park. There are numerous similar complaints on your website about the "Shift to Park" problem. Not sure why no one thinks this problem is bad enough for a recall. (Of course, my vehicle is under 36,000 miles, but over the 3 year warranty.) I am a 72 year-old woman and our area is in the midst of a frigid winter storm...not the time that I want to worry about whether my battery has been drained or whether I can safely park my vehicle, when I go to the grocery store.
