2013 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE Complaints and Recall Information

The 2013 CHEVROLET TRAVERSE has 2 complaints and 5 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners most frequently report issues with the airbag system warning light coming on after repairs. The problem involves the "Service Airbag" light activating and the airbags potentially not deploying during a crash despite previous recall repairs.

Common Issues
  • Airbag warning light. The "Service Airbag" light illuminates on the dashboard after prior recall repairs, indicating possible failure of the airbags to deploy in a crash.

There are 5 recalls affecting various safety components including air bags and seat belts. These recalls address defects in the airbag inflators, side impact airbag wiring, seat belt pretensioners, and attachment of side curtain airbags.

Recalls
  • Side impact airbag wiring harness. NHTSA recall 14V118000 affects 1,176,407 vehicles. The wiring harness may have increased resistance preventing side airbags and seat belt pretensioners from deploying, increasing injury risk. GM will replace the harness connections free of charge.
  • Seat belt steel cable. Recall 14V266000 covers 1,339,355 vehicles. The steel cable connecting the seatbelt pretensioner may fatigue and separate, risking improper occupant restraint during a crash. GM will inspect and repair or replace pretensioners free of charge once parts are available.
  • Driver airbag inflator module. Recall 21V782000 applies to 555 vehicles. The driver’s airbag inflator may explode during deployment, sending sharp metal fragments that could cause serious injury or death. Dealers will replace the airbag module at no cost.
  • Airbag inflator module (duplicate). The same driver airbag inflator defect covered in recall 21V782000 is duplicated in record but involves the same recall details and fix.
  • Side curtain airbag fasteners. Recall 21V246000 affects 108 vehicles. Side curtain airbags may be improperly attached and could fail to perform during a crash. GM will inspect and realign or replace fasteners free of charge.

Owners with repeated airbag system failures, safety defects, or unresolved recalls may want to explore their rights under state lemon laws for possible remedies related to defective vehicles.

AIR BAGS

The "Service Airbag" light and notification comes up on the dash. This happened in the past as this vehicle was part of a recall NHTSA 14V118. The car was service for that recall already back on 3-18-2014 but the issue came back. This is dangerous because when that light is on, the airbags will not go off in the event of an accident. I need this fixed at no charge. Thank you.
