2013 CHEVROLET TAHOE Complaints and Recall Information
The 2013 CHEVROLET TAHOE has 7 complaints and 9 recalls filed with NHTSA. Owners frequently report issues with the dashboard cracking and detaching, as well as a recurring engine warning that causes the vehicle to reduce speed and lose power. There are also complaints about delays and difficulties in obtaining proper repairs from dealerships.
Common Issues
- Dashboard cracking. The plastic dashboard cracks into pieces, creating concerns about loose fragments injuring occupants if the airbag deploys.
- Engine warning lights. Multiple dashboard lights including engine, Stabilitrak, and traction control illuminate, causing the vehicle to limit speed and throttle responsiveness to under 30 mph.
- Repeated power loss. The reduced engine power condition recurs randomly, requiring multiple lengthy dealership repairs without resolution.
- Repair delays. Dealers hold the vehicle for months and perform multiple attempts at fixing the issue, with owners paying additional costs and receiving limited communication.
- Airbag replacement concerns. Dealers warn that airbag replacement may damage interior parts and claim replacement components are unavailable, leading owners to refuse warranty repairs.
The 2013 CHEVROLET TAHOE is subject to 9 recalls affecting key vehicle systems including the transmission, steering column lock, electrical system, and airbag inflators. These recalls address safety defects that may cause rollaway, stalling, and airbag inflator explosions.
Recalls
- Transmission and steering column lock. (NHTSA Recall 13V001000) A fractured park lock cable or malformed steering column lock actuator gear may cause the vehicle to shift out of Park without brake application or key removal, risking rollaway crashes. Affected vehicles total 54,686. Dealers will inspect and replace the steering column as needed at no cost.
- Chassis electronic module. (NHTSA Recall 14V614000) Electrical shorts from internal contamination of the chassis electronic module may stall the engine, increasing crash risk. Approximately 106,307 vehicles are affected. Dealers will replace the module free of charge.
- Passenger frontal airbag inflator (Zone A). (NHTSA Recall 21V053000) Non-desiccated inflators containing phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate may explode due to propellant degradation, sending metal fragments into occupants. Around 692,526 vehicles originally registered in Zone A states are affected. GM will replace the inflators at no charge.
- Passenger frontal airbag inflator (Zones B and C). (NHTSA Recall 21V054000) Same defect as Zone A inflators causing risk of inflator explosion and severe injury. This recall covers approximately 1,778,128 vehicles registered in Zones B and C. GM will replace the inflators free of charge.
Owners facing repeated repairs, unresolved safety defects, or recall-related issues should review their rights under state lemon laws. Persistent problems involving powertrain failures, airbag hazards, and safety-related recalls may qualify for legal protections.

One day I was driving normal and my engine light and two other lights came on. It dropped my speed under 30mph and I couldn't pass the gas. It said reduced engine power, service stabilitrak and service traction. I immediately took it to auto zone then placed it in the shop at the dealership. They had my truck for almost 2 months and finally said they fixed it. It ran ok for a month or so. I was so scared to drive because it does it randomly. Boom it happen again now im frustrated because what is the problem. Called shop they said bring it back they will have a new person look at it. They had it for a month again. Paid more money. Then boom a month later the same thing. So at this point im calling no one is answering they ignored me so I called the customer service on the truck to complain. I had to get rentals and everything with the same problem it is over a year later. No answer and nobody called back nothing. I parked my truck for months and yesterday June 24th the lights came on again. I have heard alot of my friends and family say they have a chevy vehicle and they did/do the same thing.

I have a 2013 Chevrolet Tahoe. It is one of the thousands of which the plastic dash has cracked into pieces. My concern is that the loose plastic will hurt someone if the airbag is deployed. GM Should have never used such flimsy plastic on the dashes of so many vehicles.
