Affected inflators will be replaced free of charge by dealers to prevent serious injuries or death.
  • Passenger air bag inflator (Zone B). Recall 21V050000 also covers certain vehicles in several midwestern and eastern states. The inflator defect and repair procedure are the same as those in Zone A. GM notifies owners and schedules free replacement of defective inflators.
  • Passenger air bag inflator (Zone B and Zone C). Recall 21V052000 affects 557,023 vehicles in Zone B and vehicles in Zone C, which includes northern and western US states. These vehicles exhibit the same PSAN propellant degradation risk, with dealers providing free replacement of the inflators as the remedy.

HOWEVER, THERE HAVE BEEN NEW REPORTS OF THERMAL INCIDENTS ON HWFS MODULES AFTER THIS IMPROVEMENT WAS INSTALLED. THESE INCIDENTS RESULTED FROM A NEW FAILURE MODE ATTRIBUTED TO THE DEVICE'S THERMAL PROTECTION FEATURE. THE SIGNIFICANCE VARIES FROM MINOR DISTORTION TO CONSIDERABLE MELTING OF THE PLASTIC AROUND THE HWFS FLUID CHAMBER.

Risk: IT IS POSSIBLE FOR THE HEATED WASHER MODULE TO IGNITE AND A FIRE MAY OCCUR.
